Who else is fed up with Amazon preorders?
@@80sMadeConsumer my dad at times
I also pre-ordered the Frank Capra set and it hasn't shipped yet. On Zavvi, I pre-ordered Trick R Treat 4K 1 week before Halloween. And that still has yet to show up.
Amazon absolutely failed me on over 12 preorders this year alone. Canceled all of them because the shipping date was either waaaay off (I preorder months in advance to get it early, not 14 days later) or there would be a problem like not having any outer sleeve.
At this point, I went back to straight up looking in regular stores. Amazon makes no money out of me unless it's a deal and has already been released/in stock.
Otherwise, Amazon is a no-deal for preorders. It's poison.
I ordered 4 blu-rays and 4k’s from Amazon. The carrier failed to deliver, after keeping them in their facility. When I saw it is I called asked for replacement! They refused! I had to wait until they arrived back in the Amazon store. After two weeks Amazon replaced my order, the same happened!! This time I learned since they already send a replacement, I had to wait again and they couldn’t send another replacement! Guess what happened?!! Two of the items increased in price and one run out of stock!! I asled Amazon if I could order (before I get my money back) and they would pay the difference! They confirmed verbally and written! And I bought them! I had to send a proof I received it so they would pay the difference!! AND THEY NEVER DID. THEY REFUSED. I am ordering from Europe I had to pay 40$ for shipment and 40$ for the 4K. This is my single most expensive movie now! Thank you Amazon! You cant trust them!! They dont care that you are a 25 year long customer!!!
Ive had issues all year with them. I finally stopped using them.
Dude, you are absolutely correct! I can’t tell you how many discs I return to Amazon. Brand new discs are terribly scratched, the plastic tabs inside are broken at times and the outside is often marred, torn or dented, in the case of steelbooks. Amazon and the people shipping this stuff just don’t care about these items. They just don’t seem to appreciate these collectibles like we do. I am right there with you!
Can’t beat the savings sometimes, but that is starting to seem like less of a value too.
I agree. These discs aren’t cheap anymore ( UK) so they should pack them with more care. I’ve sent a few back recently
@@andrewtomlinson3195 more care should be the minimum standard.
I miss the good ol days when Target Tuesday new releases would have them discounted on release week then it would be full price until Black Friday. I miss those new release weeks.
They were the best. I was very disappointed last Black Friday at Best Buy they had a lot of great Christmas 4k upgrades, just nothing like it used to be. And this year nada!
@ exactly Black Friday was the best time to get movies.
100%
I can't understand why Walmart won't just commit, and be the physical media store for real. They have expanded the sections, they are just filled with DVD's of TV shows, and stuff. Barely any blurays or collectable stuff. They have like 1 each of the new releases out in that end cap thing, and a couple steel books. They do have those A24 special releases now which is cool. It feels like they keep dipping their toes in the water, but just not going for it. As soon as they stock more stuff regularly and the word gets out, they will have sales for sure, but it's a crap shoot going into most locations. I go in and buy new releases sometimes to support it because I would like them to at least keep doing what they are.
Yeah ,these jackasses not selling at stores just ruined it.
Well said! Can’t argue with that 😂
Yeah, I used to work at FYE I remember staying late Monday nights to put out all the new releases. It sucks that Best Buy is not selling in stores anymore.
A lot of buyers see one offer of "new", click on the cheaper used offer right under it, then throw a fit when they receive exactly what they order. I've been selling on Amazon for 15 years and I've seen them all.
I’m aware and even said that there are options for cheaper used items. Last year I received several movies that were all sold as new and came in rewrapped in aftermarket bags. They were being sold as new and the price reflected that.
The solution for the slip covers is for the manufacturer to shrink wrap the slip case like what Kino does. Not just the plastic case itself.
It really does ship better that way.
Amazon is not a venue for collectors. Lots of ''new'' comics, Funkos, new release
Blu ray slip covers often arrived damaged.
It really is taking all the fun out of it! Thats why I completely stopped buying graphic novels too much headache.
Also, the new stuff don't hold a candle to the old stuff.
At least 75% of everything I order from Amazon arrives damaged. It's a disgrace. They have absolutely zero integrity.
Big corporations man with little completion it’s awful. It’s literally savings and convenience that keeps me coming back. The Capra box set was 140 plus I had a 10 dollar gift card, Target has the same thing for $175.
I've stopped buying vinyl and digipacks from amazon. Sometimes they pack them in a box with no protection so they are sliding about inside.
I leave notes on my orders and a sign at the front door to put packages behind screen door so they don't steal it. Amazon drivers don't always follow directions.
I’ve gotten to the point where I only buy steelbooks from Amazon when they’re the only seller because they’re the worst when it comes to poor shipping. Firstly, they usually only ship it in a little bag, but then the delivery guy just drops the bag on the concrete floor in front of my door. Open the door, open the package and I have a steelbook banged up to shit. This has more than once. I can hear the bag being dropped on the floor before I even get to the door. I have even lost it on a couple of these delivery guys-and Amazon customer service-but nothing changes. They’re still delivered in cheap, little protection bags and then thrown around. So unless Amazon is the only seller, you’re always better to buy from another seller, even if it is a couple bucks more. It’s worth getting a relatively pristine copy of a movie that was packaged well for shipping than saving a couple bucks and getting a scratched or banged up
case or movie!
One thing I no longer do is group purchases for single order delivery from Amazon. You have the option to ship them all together to save packaging, and them money. Sounds good for the environment and I don't mind cutting them a break. I'm not in a rush but almost every time I've done this, something goes out of stock after I already bought it, like they sold it out from under me to somebody that wanted it sooner. I just have them ship everything separate now to ensure I get what I paid for in a timely manner especially if it's a popular item that was on sale.
Yeah that happened once now I never ship them together.
Yeah, this video is spot on brother, to me, the going to the store, the whole thing, that ritual was part of the event around the release. Great to see you man
Oh brother if we could just go back to that system it was perfect unless all sold out haha! you too man
Great topic! I also have had the same problem with the physical media from Amazon.
Thank you, I figured I couldn’t be the only one.
Building on your point of damage, in my area only (Twin Cities MN): for some reason our Walmart system here has picked up their packaging efforts greatly. No more razor cuts on steelbooks no more dents and they are wrapping the movies in plastic air bubbles. Also Walmart in my area has begun to use sturdier boxes instead of the bagged air bubbles that never work from Amazon. Just a tip for anyone to give a shot as we are all looking for different ways to simply get what we order in good condition.
That is great, might have to switch to Walmart.
I've preordered 3 times through Amazon:
Terminator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in one of their crappy bubble envelopes.
Gladiator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in a small box with packing paper.
Arrow's Conan Barbarian and Conan Destroyer 4k Ltd Sets - both arrived about a month late, but unharmed and shipped in a box, plus the price drop right before they shipped ($30 each!!).
My biggest issue with Amazon is that there are so many listings with pictures that show slips but one quick read through recent reviews and you find out they're not included. Usually with titles that have been out for a while, though. But still, stinks when it shows up without a slip.
Slipcovers are a gamble when ordering from just about anywhere. Some come shrink-wrapped, others the slip is exposed, while the case is wrapped. Slipcovers have squared off edges, and the cases are rounded - so the corners of slipcovers are always at risk for dings.
I'll still order titles through Amazon, especially when they run their "3 for the price of 2" on 4k's, but nothing beats shopping in person for titles, new or used.
I’m not going to stop Amazon either, but maybe go else where for the day one must haves. Late really sucks, better than damaged. Yeah the savings is nice sometimes I can’t tell if it’s manufactured savings like they purposely hold the higher price just to dip right before. A way to keep us coming back. All great pickups btw!
I think those first/early releases come with slip covers, when those sell thru that’s it for slips. Next pressing are slip free for the most part.
The only website I found that will let you know if it comes with a slip is grindhouse video. Which I only care if it's vinegar syndrome or a movie with alternate artwork.
A simple plan is fantastic and the ending is heartbreaking, great video mate 👍
Yeah it is one that is very underrated! thank you
The thing that is really starting to annoy me is Amazon’s pricing. Willow 4K preorder went up today as a limited print steelbook (which will be the only option available in the US) for $65. That is bonkers. I’m sure the price will come down some, but the same thing happened to Inside Out 2 earlier this year and if you missed that preorder, well you weren’t getting that movie on 4K.
I agree it’s nuts, also a must own for me. I’ll probably skip that steelbook and just import the slipcover version from another country.
Every single physical media item I order from Amazon arrives damaged. CDs, books, Blu-ray discs. Every single one.
What’s worse is the replacement coming damaged as well.
@ I have reacted immaturely and returned the same item so many times for a replacement that they eventually just say, “Keep it.”
@ 🤣
Haven't ordered from Amazon in a long time but I've had that exact experience with shout / scream factory. Every single disc, inside a sealed case, has had scratches/ smudges/ cheap case off gassing/ even big greasy thumbprints. Wtf is that about
Edit: I'm talking direct from their website btw
Amazon mails me a 4K steelbooks in a bag, but sends socks and pillows in a box!
Amazon has been slipping lately! My Godzilla Minus One steelbook pre order was cancelled and that’s not the first time. For boutique purchases I’m buying through Orbit, Diabolik, etc. or directly from the boutique label. All of my Vinegar Syndromes, and Second Sights I order directly from them. For the upcoming Neverending Story Imprint order, I ate the outrageous shipping fee from Australia to get it packaged by the actual label. Amazon actually has it, but I can’t trust them for my premium purchases.
Most of my premium sets I try and order direct. The Neverending story set was a day one directly through imprint, didn’t even blink on the shipping it felt like I was buying insurance haha
@ yea, definitely gotta play it safe with that bad boy. Has yours shipped yet?
Ya don't get me started on the Godzilla Minus Zero Steelbook on Amazon! I ordered mine the day went up for preorder and still waiting. I think I'm going to start preordering from Walmart and Amazon if Steelbook is available at both to ensure maybe one comes thru! I tried to do that with Godzilla Minus One but it was already sold out on Walmart the day preorders went live. Crazy.
Amazon is no longer my go to place for physical media. They don’t take care of box sets. You get them inadequately packaged and dents in the corners of hard box releases. They also get mixed up about which edition they are selling. I was sent a standard edition for a title when I thought I was buying the collectors edition. I buy from EBay sellers now.
A better choice sometimes.
Amazon has become a really dodgy website.
If it weren't for the fact they've been the top for decades, or was suddenly released today, no one would buy from there.
Confusing UI, reviews that don't actually relate to the product you're looking at, tonnes of fake and knock off products by brands you've never heard of, different editions of the same product being listed under the same details so you can't know what the difference is between editions and have to go hunt for the one or two reviews out of hundreds that even mention it.
I've even had items delivered to the wrong address on multiple occasions. They refunded it, but that's no use when an item sells out on preorders.
I've also had an item shipped with no packaging. The delivery label was simply stuck to the cellophane. Needless to say it arrived damaged. I tried to send it back, and was told I needed to package it up lest it get damaged! The replacement arrived with the same lack of packaging, but thankfully undamaged.
I feel your pain brother just not what they used to be.
I am buying a lot from eBay, I ask them how they are going to ship it and what they do to protect these collectors movies and if the answer is a good one I buy from them. For now I have nothing bad to say, they always deliver.
That’s the best way to do it!
You've had a good run. Buying physical in bricks and mortar stores died long ago in uk. Been almost online only for about 7 years. There's still hmv and few places but you'll be lucky if they have copies of all limited editions on release day. Not to mention you'll be lucky if you have an hmv nearby.
I always see those HMV shopping videos, so I never thought it went away for you guys.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yea HMV went bust and all shops shut down years back. But they started again in recent years but on much smaller scale.
Agree with you 100%! A similar thing is going on with paperbacks. Ebay is also guilty. Companies have gotten too big, they have next to no competition, and they don't care about customers.
Yeah I think we’re going to see more of this across the board, sadly.
They probably give you a "return-less refund" and let you keep it anyways because it costs too much to take it back......
I've done that and it all depends on it. I had a cracked case and I filed a return. they just refunded my money and since the disk was undamaged with the artwork undamaged. I just replaced the case and used the money to order another movie.
For me the biggest problem with Amazon or Walmart pre-orders is they ship them in the worst packaging, and half my steelbooks come damaged now. I've given up on Steelbook collecting unless one of the indie retailers stocks them.
One of the main reasons I stopped buying steelbooks unless it makes my top 25,
Here in the UK we have the same problem with Amazon. I ordered Friday 13th on 4K. The slipcover was creased up at the front. I went to return it. But Amazon told me to keep it & they refunded my money. But that’s not the point. They should take more care of their products!! Also ordering online you are never guaranteed to get a film with a slipcover!! Which I prefer.
@@Bejay1966 yeah it really sucks they never told me to keep it, but I had a movie get lost and never delivered, they sent a replacement. That was damaged and they wouldn’t send another replacement because the 1st one was still in limbo. Also check out what happened today it’s in my community post.
Amazon continously is charging customers without shipping which is going against their terms. I had this issue with the WB 4k of The Hitcher. To the point that I got irritated and canceled the order then they tried to keep my money cause they were pretending I wasn't charged because it was never shipped.
Wow that’s wild and I’ve noticed getting charged a few times well before it shipped, I just chalked it up to how Best Buy used to do it. They would charge and refund multiple times for preorders before it shipped. The reason they claimed was to manage orders if they over sold something. That way if they couldn’t charge your card they’d cancel the order. It’s all bs in my opinion.
With Amazon I have to pay the $3.99 gift fee to get steelbooks shipped in a box if I don't they are shipped in plastic bag mailers. They will most likely be damaged if not. It took them 4 tries to send me the Twister steelbook that wasn't damaged. The Long Kiss Goodnight needs to be upgraded to 4K asap.
Yeah that’s a trick I keep forgetting to do, also it starts to add up fast. Glad you finally got a good one! Agreed happy I finally upgraded, but sure would be an awesome 4k.
Still waiting on Jackie Brown! Amazon preorder, I’m in the country not close to any stores.
That’s rough! I did get mine a day or two late. I’m going to watch it later tonight!
Every movie I’ve received from Amazon in the past few months have been loose in the case. EVERY SINGLE ONE. luckily there was nothing on the disk that wouldn’t come off with a microfiber cloth, but it’s absolutely insane to me.
It happens so often now a DVD would be wrecked. Luckily Blu-rays are a bit more resistant.
I heard WB will stopeed doing slip cover is it good news?
I haven't heard that, I guess I'm indifferent on the matter. I was throwing them away for years because of wear and tear having kids they just look horrible in a short while. Unless its a boutique label the slip cover goes in a box and I've been giving them away when people need them. I hate the big ugly banners on the clip cover & the case, thats something I want to see go away.
“I want my mooobie on release day!! Waaaaaah! Waaaah waaaaaaah!”
Hey, you're not wrong! Who doesn't want their movies on release day, right? It's a bummer when that doesn't happen, especially after waiting months for a preorder. But hey, I guess we're all in this 'wanting our movies now' club together!
Can't say I buy physical media from Amazon much anymore. There's plenty of online retailers out there, many of which have better prices and package/ship your items more courteously.
Yeah it’s worth it to buy from other places.
Y'all wanted Amazon, that is why you put most independent retailers out of business. Now I too am often forced to use Amazon, and if I'm not sent the wrong product, the product is damaged. It is a joke.
I never wanted Amazon, I never ordered from them until everything was shut down.
I get your pain as in canada Ii was not able to get a lot of titles any liongate title need to order from the us and pay 2x the cost. We didn't get the the six sence or signs like really?? It been a royal pain being a collector since titles are hit or miss in canada
Yeah that’s rough. I import movies and it’s too expensive to do it for non premium special editions. The standard version should be available local all the time. You guys got Just Friends on Blu-ray we didn’t it’s now 100 dollars on eBay used. I had to get the German version used it was like 30 bucks.
I preordered the Se7en digipack from Gruv and the steelbook from Amazon. The digipack from Gruv arrived in a box 4 days early. The steelbook from Amazon said it would be here on day 1, then it said 2 days late (today), and then this morning it got changed to the 11th. And the odds are, it will show up in some flimsy "padded" envelope.
@@trent82 I feel your pain! I’ve ordered so many things from over seas, always comes in a flimsy envelope. My Robin Hood 4k from France was a limited numbered edition digipack. All sold out and damaged.
I miss going to the store for new releases 😕 Best Buy was the last one but they finally stopped but luckily Walmart stepped up but they kinda always had a nice selection.
@@tyson1fan487 yeah it is a shame. Walmarts are hit and miss. Glad you’ve had some good, our 3 Walmarts are always and gamble and rarely have a 4k. They do have a nice little steelbook section, but I’m not really into steelbooks anymore.
Yeah amazon has been wild lately. I figured most of peoples reviews are fake or over exaggerated but when i bought a new dvd collection and it arrived opened and broken i became a believer. Its a good thing their return process because i have to keep re ordering to get a decent copy especially if its on sale.
It was happening so often, I had to make a video. Once a movie was out for delivery and never was delivered they sent me a new one 4 days later, and it came damaged. They wouldn't let me return it because the other one still was showing out for delivery. I had to order a whole other one and return the damaged one for a refund. Horrible experience on top of all the waiting.
I don't care about giant corporations.
I don’t either I’d love for more local options to buy from.
I preordered Smallville on blu ray from Amazon a few years ago and I didn't receive it until a month after its release date.
That’s wild!
Pre-orders for highly anticipated and popular movies are creeping into a price area where I think I'm going completely used. Rather pay less than 25 used than $39 new.
I feel that! Always happy to buy used, much of my gear in the movie room is used and works great. Hundreds of VHS & DVDs all used. I’m always good as long as the price is right.
I have felt this for so long. So many repackaged goods. I exclusively shop orbitdvd, gruv, boutiques and Walmart. Nothing else
That's what I'm going to start doing.
The best solution I think, I will be using them for more of the day one must haves. Always finding older titles and sale prices on Amazon though, guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
I always double-check if it's new, sold, and shipped by Amazon. I never had a problem.
That was the thing I didn’t check who sold it, but it was listed new I didn’t think.
My main issue with Amazon...It literally takes up to 7 or 8 returns to get what I paid for... nothing is ever in good condition!
I’ve had that before as well one time with a book I just finally kept the least damaged one.
Amazon is clearly selling "used, refurbished & re-shrink wrapped" dvd's & blurays' despite claiming it's "NEW". I've noticed my recent purchase arrived with a different shrink wrap that doesn't feel like the industry standard kind. Also the 2 discs were loose & looked dusty. I had to wipe it clean. Never seen that before !
I’ve suspected that for a while on several purchases. And had similar experiences even finger prints on some discs. This one I was referring to was in an after market plastic bag with a tape flap.
Yup this is why I largely sail the high seas and burn my own. Sick of waiting on slow shipping or Amazon just doesn't have a pre-order available for over a month.
I only do that for stuff we can’t get, can’t blame you though.
Amazon have gone terrible for getting pre orders to you on time, Terminator, Blazing Saddles and Alien Romulus were all delayed for me. Incredibly frustrating.
Right? It's very frustrating don't preorder and possibly miss out, do it and probably not going to get it on release day. I didn't preorder Conan and it was sold out, finally got one off ebay at a higher price. Everything that got delayed so disappointing especially since I almost always preorder day 1.
There is no where else to buy. Other than Walmart and maybe the odd mom and pop shop, Amazon is an adequate place to get releases or go to the distributors site
I still use Amazon it's just frustrating sometimes.
I am in Australia, so a lot of new release titles never come out here at all, or if they do, they can be very hard to find in actual stores. Ordering online from Amazon, Zavvi or other local retailers is often the only option for getting new movies most of the time. Thankfully I haven't received many damaged items over the years, but I've been able to return the ones that were damaged without too much hassle.
I'm glad you've had a better experience. In the beginning it wasn't like this only since physical media was no longer on store shelfs.
Biggest problem is lack of competition
Oh yeah 100%
The reason i like the slipcovers......i had approx 4000 discs that was beginning to take up to much space in my home.
I reduced most of the discs (except steelbooks and favorite boxsets) to plastic sleeves with jewel art and stored alphabetically in media sized boxes that hold between 250 to 300 maybe discs.
And i use the slipcovers, pressed flat with the title on top, filed in the boxes that act as index cards for my collection.
And everything has been digitized to a Home Media Server (so the discs are mainly backups now).
As far as steelbooks and boxsets, i put them in one media tower (that can hold 1000 discs). And thats it. My collecting has pretty much slowed down (now with streaming) unless its an absolute favorite movie (and ive pretty much got those).
300 is a respectable manageable number, if i reduced my collection to my core favorites movies I couldn't live with out, I bet it would be about that. I still have films on VHS and DVD that i just don't feel the need to upgrade and more than likely I have them because they were cheaper than renting digitally.
The slip cover file system is smart I like that, but for now I really do enjoy having a library to go to and pick something off the shelf. Very reminiscent of going to the video store. I have nothing against digital we tried it. Found that it's great for the tv shows and more of the kid/holiday movies, other than that it was starting to feel like netflix, and we were spending more time watching old favorites just to hurry up and pick something. I don't think I'll ever ditch the ritual of scanning the shelves to find something in that moment.
I can appreciate slowing down I have close to 3000 movies and running out of room (unless I get rid of my VHS) now it's more about upgrading to the best format and premium boutique editions. I still add many titles but as I do, twice a year I go through what I didn't watch within a year and watch it. If its not worth keeping I trade them in to the used book store.
Yeah, Amazon is pretty ass for buying physical media as they often come damaged. I only order if I don't care about the condition or the price is too good to pass on. I remember the first purchase I ever made was a book since I had mandatory reading time in my English class. I bought the hardcover and it came all damaged. I would have complained and tried to get a partial refund or return, but I needed to have something to read so I kept it. I honestly should have just gone to the library and grabbed anything to read, and returned the book to get my money back. Thankfully I enjoyed the book, but it would be nice to have the book I enjoyed in good condition.
Also preordered The First Slam Dunk on Amazon and the corners of the slipcover were damaged. Thankfully it wasn't a lot but it was annoying. A few weeks later I saw it for the same price at Target and the copies they had were minty fresh.
I had a similar issue a few years back I was trying to get all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hardcover collected editions of the original comic books. I have 3 out of the 6 books now all sold out and the very expensive on eBay. The copies I do have came damaged so many times it was incredibly frustrating.
That is the biggest problem looks like eventually everything will be online, but in the meantime fomo gets you and there are plenty of undamaged copies in stores. Don’t preorder and for me always sold out. Still need to get Conan the Destroyer 4k all the premium editions are on eBay now.
I feel ya, I preordered the Steelbook of Nightmare on Elm Street day one when preorders came up. Due to logistics issues I just arrived today literally.
wow that is crazy I got mine just a few days late, but just today I got another one. I guess I preordered from the amazon France site as well and forgot all about it.
Perhaps I'm extremely fortunate, but I regularly pre-order from Amazon and I almost never have issues. Missed street dates can be annoying but I'm not sure how much of that is Amazon's fault since the physical media manufacturing scene is a hot mess. I have started pre-ordering some things through Walmart and they absolutely do a better job of packaging, often their Steelbooks are even packed with cardboard inserts and that's something Amazon never does.
Just from this videos comments seems like it might be very regional. Everyone’s experience is better or worse in different places. Being late sometimes I can understand, but more often my day one preorders are never on time. I feel I might stop preordering all together. Very rarely has something sold out day one.
@80sMadeConsumer I collect SteelBooks and often pre-ordering those is a must if I want it.
@ makes sense and glad those are getting to you safely. Amazon damages was a big part of why I stopped buy steelbooks. My rule now is I’ll only get the steelbook if it’s in my top 25 or comes inside a chunky box. Willow probably makes my top 25 and I still imported the slip cover edition from France. I liked the art better, and with tax and shipping that came in a few dollars cheaper than the American steelbook. Which is crazy because I remember the steelbooks collecting dust at Walmart and had 10 dollar price tags. Seems they went from a special edition of a favorite movie to the most popular.
@@80sMadeConsumer Disney is out of control with their pricing. I think their Willow steelbook streeted for $55. Effin ridiculous!
The last 3 CONSECUTIVE orders I made on Amazon I've had to return because they were "USED" and not new as advertised. One of my replacements was the an item THAT I HAD RETURNED!!!! Amazon has gone down hill.
That’s the most frustrating, because when it happens to me I’m not charged used prices and all you can do is send it back waste of time, disappointment. Just today someone sent gifts for the kids and box was perfect inside the contents were crushed, so either a previous return or was damaged in the warehouse before it went in the box.
This is by far my favorite video of 2024. I have felt this way ever since Best Buy threw in the towel on selling physical media. I went from buying about 5 to 8 films a week (usually 3 or for on Tuesday Blus-day and then 2 or 3 more on Saturday to watch with the wife) Maybe a film I was on the fence and a movie she wanted to watch. Anyway, my point is that I went from that to buying 3 or 4 movies a month. Some months without buying anything at all. I used to love going into Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart and getting a gallon of milk and a movie. Or going into Best Buy for an SD card.... and a movie. That joy is now gone. I NEVER got acclimated to the whole notion of online shopping. I hate to wait for ANYTHING more than I should. If a certain item came out on certain day, then I wanted it on that day. And I also loved the thrill of the hunt. Say, Best Buy was sold out, well Target across town has two copies left and it was an hour till closing time, Let's go! That is now gone. And quite frankly, the way things are going, I may just pick up another hobby. Because I'm 43 years old, and do not have the patience nor the time to waste on not being happy. Life is already hard as it is. But it's way harder without a hobby you enjoy, to balance it. PS: You've earned a subscriber.
I really think that’s what’s missing and most people don’t even consider this a hobby. It clearly is just by definition alone. Going to pic out your movies was ritual and part of the fun, a thrill of the hunt if you will. You bring up an excellent point going to Walmart or any store for some items and grabbing a movie was always a fun treat. It’s the only reason I started grocery shopping at Walmart haha. I’m also an 80s kid and can’t stand to wait for things, probably why I order and preorder so much so there is a constant turn over of packages. 1 major change that has helped me with not getting movies in stores was starting to look for movies at thrift stores and used book stores. I’ve found hundreds of great movies for super cheap things that were never a day one but a great addition. Only thing is check your discs I only take home the perfect ones and the few times I forgot to check no disc inside. Hope you don’t quit but breaks are good sometimes, when I find my self getting board I turn to other things that are still movie related like original movie posters I have a nice stack all found on eBay for cheap some need repairs but super fun to look for. I started getting some of my favorite movie light box Mylar signs from the theaters. Go to eBay type 25x5 movie Mylar and go nuts cheaper than a 4k and you can get a light box for them.
I have the same issues with Amazon. That and Walmart when you have steelbooks shipped they arrive dinged. That drives me nuts!
It’s the worst and the main reason I stopped collecting steelbooks, now I order to get one they have to be either in my top 25 or inside and premium edition package.
I may be unique but I haven’t had a problem with day-and-date deliveries from Amazon. I have, though, experienced some of the same problems receiving used copies from third party sellers.
Glad you’ve mostly had good luck. 3rd party sellers are a pain.
I don't pre-order anything on Amazon but I quit using Amazon when I ordered 3 movies and said they shipped and 4 days after it said it was supposed be be delivered were still sitting at the warehouse
I can’t blame you. I’ve had some things that were out for deliver and never show up. They sent a replacement and that was crushed and wouldn’t send another replacement in case the 1st one showed up.
@80sMadeConsumer that sounds as bad as the time I ordered a car part said it was delivered told them it wasn't they sent a 2nd one showed up 3 days later then the first one that I ordered the end of February showed up in the begging of September out of the blue that's when I was started to get hesitate with Amazon then the whole thing with those 3 blurays and haven't ordered much on Amazon since I been mostly buying movies on Ebay and Nickleflix other then actually going to stores
I only care that the disc works, unless it's a collector's edition steelbook or something. Otherwise, just disc only for me.
Nothing wrong with that everyone has their own way. I’ve talked to people that keep sending them back for less than perfect slipcover, and I used to throw them in the trash.
What annoys me is Criterion now using digipacks. I've now had two Criterion's from Amazon damaged. They pack them in padded envelopes only. If I send it back for an exchange chances are they will still be damaged. From now on I will only buy digipacks from the store.
Yeah that’s the worst digipacks are so fragile to begin with.
Do you have a record store in your area? Distributors that broker CDs and vinyl also deal with movies. That’s how I get my movies.
I have a couple, I think one is part of an antique mall/ where there is a booth. The other has just vinyl. I went a few years back and no luck. The used book stores I go to have a bit of everything. Living in a military town with high turn over of people with out a lot of extra stuff not a lot of movies. Some one suggested pawn shops so I guess I’ll try that soon. Thank you
Copy that. Being in a military town does have an effect. I just want to add something I forgot to mention. My record store didn’t sell movies at all until I walked in and asked him to preorder the Willow 4K Steelbook. He got it MUCH cheaper than the $65 Amazon was charging for preorders. If your local store carries new vinyl, it might be worth asking. Could benefit both of you. If you’ve already had the conversation, ignore my post. LOL. Take care!
Next time I go it couldn't hurt to ask, thanks for the suggestion.
Frank Capra collection is now out of stock according to Walmart.
Wow glad I got mine finally. Diabolik dvd has some in stock, not sure how long though.
i preordered The neverending story 40th anniversary on oct 18th from amazon, I was supposed to get it on dec 22nd and it still hasnt arrived.
That sucks, at this point I would cancel & try to get it from somewhere else if you can. Horrible experience.
I also do need replacement cases for all of my format movies
it really sucks to have to spend money to replace them.
@ I don’t blame you
I don't buy from Amazon anymore, i can't even get into my library because they want me to tell them the expiration date on the card i already deleted 😡. Did me a favor honestly. I like Thriftbooks, Wonderbook or Walmart have decent prices. Ive gotten decent books from thriftbooks even when they're labeled heavily used.
Going to the store is great and I don’t mind buying used, not the biggest selection in my area. I’m stuck buying from the internet.
The other issue I have with Amazon is pricing. Terminator in Canada was $40 for preorder. I decided not to order it in case Walmart got them. Which is very rare. But they did, and they are asking $27 for it. Huge difference. Amazon has raised a lot of their prices here because they know options are very limited today. Same with Godzilla Minus One. Walmart got it, and it was $5 less than Amazon.
It really is a big difference! I could imagine Amazon trying to jack prices just because of your location.
Pre orders suck.
Yeah it’s something I know I scoffed at a few years ago and now it’s do it or miss out or over pay later!
Now how was the shipping offered? I ask because if it says Free shipping if you spend $35 it's usually sold by Amazon.
It was free shipping. After it was delivered I noticed it was sold by some one other than Amazon.
@@80sMadeConsumer Free shipping without having to spend $35? Yes or No.
@ that item no, but the whole purchase that day yes. Not sure if that matters or not.
@@80sMadeConsumer It's a tip off if you spend below $35 and free shipping is offered. That tells me it's not Amazon.
@ good to know thank you.
I still get my Amazon movies same day or early as far as pre-orders go. They are also in good shape. However! I am fed up with pre-ordering vinyl from them. Multiple times I've pre-order a record, it gets to them even telling me they've shipped it, and then all of the sudden it's delayed on day of delivery. Then weeks go by and oops, we don't have this anymore. I'll wait for months for them to fill the order and then they just won't and I have to get a refund. I don't know what to think of your movie situation. Maybe it's just your specific order fulfillment facility.
That is rough, can’t say I’ve ever had it that bad. But the shipped and out for delivery happens all the time, only for it to get delayed and anywhere from the next day to a week later it actually gets delivered.
Amazon dropped the ball on my Arrow Films Friday the 13th(2009)4K Preorder for $24.99. Never got it from them and it pissed me off so bad I didn't even want the 4K at all anymore
That sucks sometimes it really takes the fun out of the whole thing. I haven’t gotten to that point yet. I have been so mad when I finally got the movie I didn’t watch it for months, bc I didn’t want that connection of the bad experience with watching it.
I ordered I know What You Did Last Summer. I knew something was off because the wrapper felt weird. I opened it up and I went to claim the digital code and it was claimed like 2 weeks before and I bought the item as a brand new item. I am thinking someone ordered it to just get the digital code and then returned it. I also ordered A Nightmare On Elm Street 4k steelbook and that steelbook was damaged on both sides and on 2 corners. I had waited like 2 months for that movie. They had no business shipping a movie that damaged. I returned that one back.
I really is a common problem! Big corporations with less competition, it's not going to get any better. Also the reason I stopped buying steelbooks for the most part. Loved I know What You Did Last Summer 4k one of my favorite 90s slashers.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yeah I like it too, I am a fan of slashers. Wish I had the digital code to add to my collection. I ordered some steelbooks from Gruv and they came in excellent condition. So I may just stick to them.
@@percybedford6266 I've had a good experience with Gruv, they even have an ebay store with better deals sometimes.
Bro, I just got a replacement for my Hulk 80s TV set, because the first one was damaged (bought at Amazon). The second one has the exact same type of damage, but this time the discs aren’t damaged. I just took the blow. So annoying.
Benn there brother at least its watchable now.
It’s a roll of the dice, just like eBay which is my favorite but sometimes I see that item has been delivered but it might not get here on a weekend if it’s a lazy ups driver and Amazon is too buzy to care but packages are piled high in their trucks and you can’t expect them to be perfect every time
That I get but for me it’s more not getting them on time, I’m now expected to get the Capra box set next Monday that’ll be 2 weeks passed release day and it was a preorder. Once in a while sure but most of time sucks.
They never ship them on time. I can get things quicker at my local HMV. They cancelled my terminator steelbook pre-order. They lost my train spotting pre-order. My willow pre-order won’t come until one week after release. It’s so frustrating.
It really is the worst I would love to be able to walk into a store.
I bught on Friday Demolition Man (Arrow 4k version) and We Were Soldiers 4k so they sent them together like I ask but NO, now I know the Demolition Man Limited Edition is going to arrive damaged because they don't care about packaging these movies properly. I live in PR and Amazon is almost all we got to buy these movies, Walmart here all they got is DVDs 4k and Blu-ray are very scarce. Another thing is a lot of these preorders take a lot to ship, my Shaun of the Dead and A Nightmare on Elm Street both 4k Steelbooks took more than a month to shipped and arrived.
That’s crazy hopefully it gets there undamaged.
I hate getting duped when buying online. Doesn't happen very often but now and then they get ya
It really is the worst!
3 weeks domestic!!! Fuck that! lol I hardly ever buy used on Amazon if I can help it. I prefer eBay & only with photos
Same man the only thing I ever purposely ordered used from Amazon was that Just Friends Import.
As frustrating as Amazon and big box store deliveries are today, this is sadly nothing new.
Coming from a LE/SE video game scene from years past, it was about a 50/50 chance your $100-200 LE game would come in a box without any padding and corners mashed, or worse yet, no box and just the shipping label taped to the actual game itself, now smashed in and items crushed on the inside. Without physical retail stores carry these items it's only going to get worse moving foward.
Competition is the only way they consumer wins. It was a very noticeable decline when best buy stopped selling them.
I’ve had success with gruv deep discount and even bull moose. Walmart don’t have a lot but they ship fast. Stuff is always sold out before preorders online
Yeah moving forward I’ll use some of them more often.
I am mad about the pre-orders as well, An also i just got the Step By Step complete series yesterday, two discs were popped out an one of the discs the back looks like someone was playing hockey with the disc makes me really mad. Probably gonna have to get another copy because of that.
That really is rough but also that is a problem with that case I have the same set and great for space but I'am not a fan. Not sure if you saw but Amazon did just put the Family Matters complete series on sale its half off I think. Other places might have it as well.
@ yeah im not a fan of it either, but at least it’s better then what they originally did with the Threes Company complete series it was a mess. An cool, i may check that out thanks.
@ I didn’t see the threes company set, but the quantum leap set from mill creek was a joke. All the discs in loose cardboard sleeves in a box.
@@80sMadeConsumer aww man that’s horrible, thats how the Threes Company set was too, an couldn’t return it to Walmart because of their policy of opening games an movies up.
@ same! Got suckered by nostalgia and Walmart.
I use Ebay mainly. They are pretty good or Hamilton Books.
Great places, Hamilton Book is top notch
I've pretty much dropped ordering from Amazon due to their poor packaging. Orbit is my go to now. End up paying a bit more, but they actually take care of your stuff.
I might take a chance on the Capra set from Amazon because its about $70 cheaper, and I can't ignore that. But I half expect to end up returning it due to damage and end up going with Orbit anyway. I bought the Flintstones complete series blu ray from Amazon in 2 different sales, and never was able to actually get a copy in hand that didn't have the case all banged up from shipping, since they pretty much ship in a plastic bag. And that's not a rare occurrence from them.
It is the dilemma for sure! I would love to go else where but sometimes the savings is worth it. The savings alone has added more titles each year. The funny thing is I think that Capra set could easily get damaged, but I think that’ll be the one thing that doesn’t all year 😂
What about putting a pre order only to find that Amazon didn't order enough stock. Then you get the Amazon will let you know when its in stock again. At times months go by and nothing. One title I pre ordered which was limited never showed.
I've had that happen too very frustrating!
At least give customers a discount, if you are shipping them non mint products. Dynamic and gouging prices also issues.
It's the too big problem less competition zero accountability.
Agreed, myself scaled back considerably starting this month.
I had this once with trying to get Turbo a Power Rangers movie and the vendor failed to deliver (I waited almost 4 months and they never got back to me).
Yeah that exact same thing happened once with a Walmart purchase. It was a 3rd party vendor and they purposefully were selling one thing and shipping another similar product. Lots of complaints and Walmart did nothing the vendor ignored all emails. I now try and get stuff sold only through Amazon or Walmart.
Yeah I got the blazing saddles steelbook, you already know how that went … so I had to return it and they didn’t offer replacement only money back, Now on steelbook or any cool slipcover I want taken care of I just order as a gift so it comes in a box, best I can do 🤷🏻♂️
That is a great idea but may not always work. My sister In-law sent my kid somethings all gifts and one came in a brown envelope and it was breakable.
I started buying more from Gruv, but lately they've been shipping everything in the same type of thin paper bags that Amazon uses. I just can't win.😕
I noticed that too, even the orders from Gruv's ebay store.
Survivor is unphased by Amazon LOL Yet alone package theives, Fed Ex Trucks raided in NY LOL Thrift stores remain my hold out, local game stores that have media as well, Vintage Stock is another place I move around at too but the Thrift turn over is a daily slot machine, and yes there is a lot of crap lol, diamonds show up too like Black moon rising with Tommy Lee Jones, and written by John Carpenter. I am stuck in .50 cent tapes.
Can’t blame you brother. I love vintage tech, but I also have the latest and greatest it’s nice to take advantage of each system, so I’m stuck ordering online more often.
@80sMadeConsumer I am heading that way too for tapes I simply can not find hunting thrifts and turn overs, such as all of the Critters, Ghoulies, Puppet Master, all vhs I plan on having to shell out some for. I have none of those lol plenty of others
This makes me think of my own experiences with ordering a movie through Amazon. I have had to cancel orders because of huge delays before being shipped, ordered 4K's expecting to get everything promised to find out the digital code had been removed, or just getting damaged or even loose disks inside the case. At least when I go to a local spot here in the town I live in, they at least know, and they have the economic sense to handle their merchandise, better than this conglomerate does.
The idea of connivence is more trouble than it’s worth. I would give anything to have a dedicated mom and pop movie store like the record stores. Man that’s a new one never had the code swiped. I hardly use them maybe vacation time, but that’s not the point! That sucks!
@80sMadeConsumer Yep I specifically ordered The Thing on 4K just to find they removed the code. I didn't have a 4K player at that time but I have a 4K Roku that I still watched 4K films on.
@80sMadeConsumer Also having digital codes comes in handy so someone like my partner can always access those films too. I have about 61 titles that are digital, mostly from coming with the physical copies. I still prefer my physical ones but it's nice to have them accessible at anytime.
I pre order from them every now and then. now I use Roughcut video in Canada for umbrella mvd.ETC. if it cheaper on amazon I will pre order.
Yeah I will do the same just try and use them less, sometimes the savings is worth the gamble.
@ true. thrift shopping to. Is great for older media.
I hear you
I'd be a little pissed off if the slip cover was marred up, I'm not much of a slip cover guy either unless it's a special edition with fancy/different art. For example I have a The Dark Knight Rised on BluRay+DVD that has a 3d holographic art on the front (so I kept the slipcover). However I usually just throw away slipcovers if they are just duplicate artwork of what's on the case, because slipcovers get damaged far easier than the case. However if the slipcover is damaged when I receive it, it means the shipper didn't take care of my disk, and that pisses me off even if I'm just gonna throw the slipcover away.
exactly it just sucks the joy out of getting it in the first place.
@@80sMadeConsumer Nothing like going to the store, being able to see a scratched/beat up slipcover or case and being able to grab the next one on the shelf that undamaged. I miss those days!
My recent nightmare isn't Amz but Gruv. I preordered my Terminator and North By Northwest steelbooks back in August, and they not only haven't arrived, but USPS shows they never received the items to ship from Gruv. Gruv told me they sent it 10 days ago so I guess I'm supposed to be shit-outta luck? WTF?!!! The Terminator steelbook is sold out everywhere so I'm boned in every way.
Love you and your channel btw, I too am 80s Made. I long for that decade.
Wow that is wild! I’ve only order from Gruv a few times and mostly from their eBay store.
Awesome, nothing like being 80s made! Literally a diffrent breed.
I ordered terminator steelbook from Amazon uk on June 6th then on delivery date they cancelled my order for stock shortages. My friend ordered in August and got his order. By then sold out everywhere. Obviously Amazon doesn't do first come first served. Second time it's happened. Iv cancelled my other pre orders and use HMV now.
Man the shortages is another thing I forgot to mention they’ve cancelled my order a couple times and within in a week back in stock notices. I’ll be going elsewhere too. I also noticed that a friend of mine preordered something way after mine and he got his first also very frustrating.
Wrong you can't return a movie because you didn't like it
My ex wife's brother bragged about doing that all the time he would give the reason of damaged or not working.
Play Amazon games. Win Amazon prizes.
😂😂
Yeah we have dumb asses online selling disc video games where they show pictures of the disc on wood witch can scratch them
Oh yeah that’s the worst I hate to buy used online and avoid it if I can. I usually get mixed results either way.
I got 2 steelbooks and 5 blu rays and it came in a box.
The box is usually the best option, very hit or miss with most of mine coming in bubble mailers still.
They did this to me twice. Fking Amazon. In my case both times the description stated NEW. When I ordered Boy kills world on 4k, the item I received was clearly used. So I took pictures and posted a review, Amazon decided they didn't like my review so they didn't approved, worst part i paid full price for what I thought it was a new 4k movie it was roughly $38 so I just returned it and got a refund. The second time it's was Cloverfield paradox, some thing, but that time I decide to keep it since I only paid $6 for it.
I used to get my movies from Best Buy. I wish they would still sell movies
I get it brother going to Best Buy was better than people admit, it was just part of the hobby.
@80sMadeConsumer unfortunately for fans of physical media like us is getting harder to purchase stuff since we don't have that many options. Here where I live, the only store that sells movies is walmart.
I have yet to get something on release date from Amazon it’s always Friday at the earliest. Also slips always damaged my Deadpool slip was actually water damaged not sure how.
Also if I preorder day one such as a steelbook usually I get that item delayed by weeks if it’s popular but if I preorder a week before release it won’t be so that seems backwards. It’s an endless struggle with Amazon. Walmart ships faster and I get stuff on release date or more than often I get it the weekend before almost always soooo it’s Walmart for me I signed up for Walmart plus now I may just stop using Amazon for media going forward
I might look into the Walmart thing, my issue is I’m a die hard go to the store guy and Walmart is so close. And then again they have movies rarely the ones I want or DVD only. I’ve noticed that too something I preordered day one mine was a week late and a friend that preordered days before got his day one.
Yeah Amazon is not first come first serve which seems odd to me. Yeah I am switching my media orders to Walmart it’s just too frustrating.
Also I have never ever ever got something early ever from Amazon lol never
