Every movie I’ve received from Amazon in the past few months have been loose in the case. EVERY SINGLE ONE. luckily there was nothing on the disk that wouldn’t come off with a microfiber cloth, but it’s absolutely insane to me.
One thing I no longer do is group purchases for single order delivery from Amazon. You have the option to ship them all together to save packaging, and them money. Sounds good for the environment and I don't mind cutting them a break. I'm not in a rush but almost every time I've done this, something goes out of stock after I already bought it, like they sold it out from under me to somebody that wanted it sooner. I just have them ship everything separate now to ensure I get what I paid for in a timely manner especially if it's a popular item that was on sale.
I am in Australia, so a lot of new release titles never come out here at all, or if they do, they can be very hard to find in actual stores. Ordering online from Amazon, Zavvi or other local retailers is often the only option for getting new movies most of the time. Thankfully I haven't received many damaged items over the years, but I've been able to return the ones that were damaged without too much hassle.
Yeah, this video is spot on brother, to me, the going to the store, the whole thing, that ritual was part of the event around the release. Great to see you man
The best solution I think, I will be using them for more of the day one must haves. Always finding older titles and sale prices on Amazon though, guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
I agree with all your points, though I think Amazon has slightly improved recently. Many of my movies come in boxes now instead of plastic mailers and most pre orders have arrived on time, including the highly sought after Godzilla Minus One steelbook. As for the used movies, even if sold by Amazon I often get rewrapped movies when ordering older titles sold as “new.”
It might be a regional thing, 3 movies just today all separate bubble mailers & one from Amazon France that was shipped in thin cardboard. I think its more the outcome of robots shipping and less human contact.
I've preordered 3 times through Amazon: Terminator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in one of their crappy bubble envelopes. Gladiator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in a small box with packing paper. Arrow's Conan Barbarian and Conan Destroyer 4k Ltd Sets - both arrived about a month late, but unharmed and shipped in a box, plus the price drop right before they shipped ($30 each!!). My biggest issue with Amazon is that there are so many listings with pictures that show slips but one quick read through recent reviews and you find out they're not included. Usually with titles that have been out for a while, though. But still, stinks when it shows up without a slip. Slipcovers are a gamble when ordering from just about anywhere. Some come shrink-wrapped, others the slip is exposed, while the case is wrapped. Slipcovers have squared off edges, and the cases are rounded - so the corners of slipcovers are always at risk for dings. I'll still order titles through Amazon, especially when they run their "3 for the price of 2" on 4k's, but nothing beats shopping in person for titles, new or used.
I’m not going to stop Amazon either, but maybe go else where for the day one must haves. Late really sucks, better than damaged. Yeah the savings is nice sometimes I can’t tell if it’s manufactured savings like they purposely hold the higher price just to dip right before. A way to keep us coming back. All great pickups btw!
Building on your point of damage, in my area only (Twin Cities MN): for some reason our Walmart system here has picked up their packaging efforts greatly. No more razor cuts on steelbooks no more dents and they are wrapping the movies in plastic air bubbles. Also Walmart in my area has begun to use sturdier boxes instead of the bagged air bubbles that never work from Amazon. Just a tip for anyone to give a shot as we are all looking for different ways to simply get what we order in good condition.
I always feel so awful whenever I see videos like this because I have never had one bad issue with Amazon! Now that could be because I live extremely close to a warehouse so things never ship very far to me at all assuming it’s a new item but still, I’m sorry you went through all this! I 100% agree that the lack of ability to in person shop these days has definitely put a damper on the hobby!
Glad you have a great experience, oddly enough my Amazon uk orders that have been mostly premium editions all ship just fine. It’s the local stuff that gets messed up.
I miss the good ol days when Target Tuesday new releases would have them discounted on release week then it would be full price until Black Friday. I miss those new release weeks.
They were the best. I was very disappointed last Black Friday at Best Buy they had a lot of great Christmas 4k upgrades, just nothing like it used to be. And this year nada!
The thing that is really starting to annoy me is Amazon’s pricing. Willow 4K preorder went up today as a limited print steelbook (which will be the only option available in the US) for $65. That is bonkers. I’m sure the price will come down some, but the same thing happened to Inside Out 2 earlier this year and if you missed that preorder, well you weren’t getting that movie on 4K.
I feel ya, I preordered the Steelbook of Nightmare on Elm Street day one when preorders came up. Due to logistics issues I just arrived today literally.
wow that is crazy I got mine just a few days late, but just today I got another one. I guess I preordered from the amazon France site as well and forgot all about it.
My recent nightmare isn't Amz but Gruv. I preordered my Terminator and North By Northwest steelbooks back in August, and they not only haven't arrived, but USPS shows they never received the items to ship from Gruv. Gruv told me they sent it 10 days ago so I guess I'm supposed to be shit-outta luck? WTF?!!! The Terminator steelbook is sold out everywhere so I'm boned in every way. Love you and your channel btw, I too am 80s Made. I long for that decade.
Wow that is wild! I’ve only order from Gruv a few times and mostly from their eBay store. Awesome, nothing like being 80s made! Literally a diffrent breed.
The other issue I have with Amazon is pricing. Terminator in Canada was $40 for preorder. I decided not to order it in case Walmart got them. Which is very rare. But they did, and they are asking $27 for it. Huge difference. Amazon has raised a lot of their prices here because they know options are very limited today. Same with Godzilla Minus One. Walmart got it, and it was $5 less than Amazon.
Amazon has become a really dodgy website. If it weren't for the fact they've been the top for decades, or was suddenly released today, no one would buy from there. Confusing UI, reviews that don't actually relate to the product you're looking at, tonnes of fake and knock off products by brands you've never heard of, different editions of the same product being listed under the same details so you can't know what the difference is between editions and have to go hunt for the one or two reviews out of hundreds that even mention it. I've even had items delivered to the wrong address on multiple occasions. They refunded it, but that's no use when an item sells out on preorders. I've also had an item shipped with no packaging. The delivery label was simply stuck to the cellophane. Needless to say it arrived damaged. I tried to send it back, and was told I needed to package it up lest it get damaged! The replacement arrived with the same lack of packaging, but thankfully undamaged.
I've done that and it all depends on it. I had a cracked case and I filed a return. they just refunded my money and since the disk was undamaged with the artwork undamaged. I just replaced the case and used the money to order another movie.
I've pretty much dropped ordering from Amazon due to their poor packaging. Orbit is my go to now. End up paying a bit more, but they actually take care of your stuff. I might take a chance on the Capra set from Amazon because its about $70 cheaper, and I can't ignore that. But I half expect to end up returning it due to damage and end up going with Orbit anyway. I bought the Flintstones complete series blu ray from Amazon in 2 different sales, and never was able to actually get a copy in hand that didn't have the case all banged up from shipping, since they pretty much ship in a plastic bag. And that's not a rare occurrence from them.
It is the dilemma for sure! I would love to go else where but sometimes the savings is worth it. The savings alone has added more titles each year. The funny thing is I think that Capra set could easily get damaged, but I think that’ll be the one thing that doesn’t all year 😂
Yeah I got the blazing saddles steelbook, you already know how that went … so I had to return it and they didn’t offer replacement only money back, Now on steelbook or any cool slipcover I want taken care of I just order as a gift so it comes in a box, best I can do 🤷🏻♂️
I am mad about the pre-orders as well, An also i just got the Step By Step complete series yesterday, two discs were popped out an one of the discs the back looks like someone was playing hockey with the disc makes me really mad. Probably gonna have to get another copy because of that.
That really is rough but also that is a problem with that case I have the same set and great for space but I'am not a fan. Not sure if you saw but Amazon did just put the Family Matters complete series on sale its half off I think. Other places might have it as well.
It’s the worst and the main reason I stopped collecting steelbooks, now I order to get one they have to be either in my top 25 or inside and premium edition package.
As frustrating as Amazon and big box store deliveries are today, this is sadly nothing new. Coming from a LE/SE video game scene from years past, it was about a 50/50 chance your $100-200 LE game would come in a box without any padding and corners mashed, or worse yet, no box and just the shipping label taped to the actual game itself, now smashed in and items crushed on the inside. Without physical retail stores carry these items it's only going to get worse moving foward.
I'd be a little pissed off if the slip cover was marred up, I'm not much of a slip cover guy either unless it's a special edition with fancy/different art. For example I have a The Dark Knight Rised on BluRay+DVD that has a 3d holographic art on the front (so I kept the slipcover). However I usually just throw away slipcovers if they are just duplicate artwork of what's on the case, because slipcovers get damaged far easier than the case. However if the slipcover is damaged when I receive it, it means the shipper didn't take care of my disk, and that pisses me off even if I'm just gonna throw the slipcover away.
Yeah, Amazon is pretty ass for buying physical media as they often come damaged. I only order if I don't care about the condition or the price is too good to pass on. I remember the first purchase I ever made was a book since I had mandatory reading time in my English class. I bought the hardcover and it came all damaged. I would have complained and tried to get a partial refund or return, but I needed to have something to read so I kept it. I honestly should have just gone to the library and grabbed anything to read, and returned the book to get my money back. Thankfully I enjoyed the book, but it would be nice to have the book I enjoyed in good condition. Also preordered The First Slam Dunk on Amazon and the corners of the slipcover were damaged. Thankfully it wasn't a lot but it was annoying. A few weeks later I saw it for the same price at Target and the copies they had were minty fresh.
I had a similar issue a few years back I was trying to get all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hardcover collected editions of the original comic books. I have 3 out of the 6 books now all sold out and the very expensive on eBay. The copies I do have came damaged so many times it was incredibly frustrating. That is the biggest problem looks like eventually everything will be online, but in the meantime fomo gets you and there are plenty of undamaged copies in stores. Don’t preorder and for me always sold out. Still need to get Conan the Destroyer 4k all the premium editions are on eBay now.
Bro, I just got a replacement for my Hulk 80s TV set, because the first one was damaged (bought at Amazon). The second one has the exact same type of damage, but this time the discs aren’t damaged. I just took the blow. So annoying.
Look big box stores no longer sell movies because the demand isn’t there anymore because digital media and streaming like Netflix, max, peacock and Disney+ and so on has taken over so why would the average person buy a movie when it will most likely end up in streaming
Even the avg person can see the difference between a streamed 4K movie and watching the same movie on a disc with a good player. The data streams and bandwidth cannot compete with the amount of data stored on physical media. Maybe when the technology improves in time, there might be some competition to look at. I’ve seen the pixelization, stair stepping, blacks not being rendered properly…. But owning a disc, that can’t be taken from you. Streaming libraries can be altered or deleted at any time, if you bought a movie and saved online, there’s no guarantee it will always be there, but owning the disc, Yeah baby, anytime any where and always perfect ! 😁👍
I understand that’s what is being said, but they brought back vinyl and made room on store shelf’s. If you crunch the numbers dvd out sells vinyl by a lot, maybe not like they did at the peak. I think it’s more to do with financial interests in streaming more than people just aren’t buying them. So many movies are being put out is becoming hard to keep up.
The thing is there isn’t enough people supporting physical media anymore because if there was big box office stores wouldn’t have removed them from its stores and those are facts. Stores aren’t going to remove product that sells and since the demand for physical media has dropped significantly in the last few years and continues to drop well we all remember what happened to blockbuster video right and how a small company like Netflix took them out 😂😂😂😂 digital media is taking over
@ believe what you will man, less people buy vinyl records than DVDs there is zero reason to have them in stores. Either way this wasn’t my point the video was my frustration on Amazon and late preorders and damaged goods.
@@BLEED.THEBLUE It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. If you stock less physical media, or no physical media, less units will be sold. As for vinyl, they're charging the shit out of that stuff, so it probably has higher margins. It's also too big to steal easily, which is another concern with retail stores.
I get your pain as in canada Ii was not able to get a lot of titles any liongate title need to order from the us and pay 2x the cost. We didn't get the the six sence or signs like really?? It been a royal pain being a collector since titles are hit or miss in canada
Yeah that’s rough. I import movies and it’s too expensive to do it for non premium special editions. The standard version should be available local all the time. You guys got Just Friends on Blu-ray we didn’t it’s now 100 dollars on eBay used. I had to get the German version used it was like 30 bucks.
This makes me think of my own experiences with ordering a movie through Amazon. I have had to cancel orders because of huge delays before being shipped, ordered 4K's expecting to get everything promised to find out the digital code had been removed, or just getting damaged or even loose disks inside the case. At least when I go to a local spot here in the town I live in, they at least know, and they have the economic sense to handle their merchandise, better than this conglomerate does.
The idea of connivence is more trouble than it’s worth. I would give anything to have a dedicated mom and pop movie store like the record stores. Man that’s a new one never had the code swiped. I hardly use them maybe vacation time, but that’s not the point! That sucks!
@80sMadeConsumer Yep I specifically ordered The Thing on 4K just to find they removed the code. I didn't have a 4K player at that time but I have a 4K Roku that I still watched 4K films on.
@80sMadeConsumer Also having digital codes comes in handy so someone like my partner can always access those films too. I have about 61 titles that are digital, mostly from coming with the physical copies. I still prefer my physical ones but it's nice to have them accessible at anytime.
I don't pre-order anything on Amazon but I quit using Amazon when I ordered 3 movies and said they shipped and 4 days after it said it was supposed be be delivered were still sitting at the warehouse
I can’t blame you. I’ve had some things that were out for deliver and never show up. They sent a replacement and that was crushed and wouldn’t send another replacement in case the 1st one showed up.
@80sMadeConsumer that sounds as bad as the time I ordered a car part said it was delivered told them it wasn't they sent a 2nd one showed up 3 days later then the first one that I ordered the end of February showed up in the begging of September out of the blue that's when I was started to get hesitate with Amazon then the whole thing with those 3 blurays and haven't ordered much on Amazon since I been mostly buying movies on Ebay and Nickleflix other then actually going to stores
I thought I found the secret to getting good product. Order at least 4 movies. And then they’ll put them in a box instead of a mailer. Well… ordered 5 including Godzilla, simple plan and terminator and they divided the order and shipped in a mailer. Not only were slips damaged but the cases and art as well. It’s just luck of the draw I guess. Hopefully my simple plan makes it through okay. Due tomorrow. Oh and yes… late even though preordered months ago.
Survivor is unphased by Amazon LOL Yet alone package theives, Fed Ex Trucks raided in NY LOL Thrift stores remain my hold out, local game stores that have media as well, Vintage Stock is another place I move around at too but the Thrift turn over is a daily slot machine, and yes there is a lot of crap lol, diamonds show up too like Black moon rising with Tommy Lee Jones, and written by John Carpenter. I am stuck in .50 cent tapes.
Can’t blame you brother. I love vintage tech, but I also have the latest and greatest it’s nice to take advantage of each system, so I’m stuck ordering online more often.
@80sMadeConsumer I am heading that way too for tapes I simply can not find hunting thrifts and turn overs, such as all of the Critters, Ghoulies, Puppet Master, all vhs I plan on having to shell out some for. I have none of those lol plenty of others
I ordered terminator steelbook from Amazon uk on June 6th then on delivery date they cancelled my order for stock shortages. My friend ordered in August and got his order. By then sold out everywhere. Obviously Amazon doesn't do first come first served. Second time it's happened. Iv cancelled my other pre orders and use HMV now.
Man the shortages is another thing I forgot to mention they’ve cancelled my order a couple times and within in a week back in stock notices. I’ll be going elsewhere too. I also noticed that a friend of mine preordered something way after mine and he got his first also very frustrating.
What about putting a pre order only to find that Amazon didn't order enough stock. Then you get the Amazon will let you know when its in stock again. At times months go by and nothing. One title I pre ordered which was limited never showed.
I had this once with trying to get Turbo a Power Rangers movie and the vendor failed to deliver (I waited almost 4 months and they never got back to me).
Yeah that exact same thing happened once with a Walmart purchase. It was a 3rd party vendor and they purposefully were selling one thing and shipping another similar product. Lots of complaints and Walmart did nothing the vendor ignored all emails. I now try and get stuff sold only through Amazon or Walmart.
I have yet to get something on release date from Amazon it’s always Friday at the earliest. Also slips always damaged my Deadpool slip was actually water damaged not sure how. Also if I preorder day one such as a steelbook usually I get that item delayed by weeks if it’s popular but if I preorder a week before release it won’t be so that seems backwards. It’s an endless struggle with Amazon. Walmart ships faster and I get stuff on release date or more than often I get it the weekend before almost always soooo it’s Walmart for me I signed up for Walmart plus now I may just stop using Amazon for media going forward
I might look into the Walmart thing, my issue is I’m a die hard go to the store guy and Walmart is so close. And then again they have movies rarely the ones I want or DVD only. I’ve noticed that too something I preordered day one mine was a week late and a friend that preordered days before got his day one.
Who else is fed up with Amazon preorders?
@@80sMadeConsumer my dad at times
Every movie I’ve received from Amazon in the past few months have been loose in the case. EVERY SINGLE ONE. luckily there was nothing on the disk that wouldn’t come off with a microfiber cloth, but it’s absolutely insane to me.
The solution for the slip covers is for the manufacturer to shrink wrap the slip case like what Kino does. Not just the plastic case itself.
It really does ship better that way.
Every single physical media item I order from Amazon arrives damaged. CDs, books, Blu-ray discs. Every single one.
What’s worse is the replacement coming damaged as well.
@ I have reacted immaturely and returned the same item so many times for a replacement that they eventually just say, “Keep it.”

Yeah it is one that is very underrated! thank you
Physical media collectors are 💩.They're ordering movies form Amazon with slipcovers .then returning the movie and keeping the slip cover messed up
@@ragnar-tl4fl I don’t think anyone is just collecting slip covers. Why would anyone order a movie just to steal a slip cover.

I started buying more from Gruv, but lately they've been shipping everything in the same type of thin paper bags that Amazon uses. I just can't win.😕
I noticed that too, even the orders from Gruv's ebay store.
Bro, I just got a replacement for my Hulk 80s TV set, because the first one was damaged (bought at Amazon). The second one has the exact same type of damage, but this time the discs aren’t damaged. I just took the blow. So annoying.
Benn there brother at least its watchable now.
At least give customers a discount, if you are shipping them non mint products. Dynamic and gouging prices also issues.
It's the too big problem less competition zero accountability.
Tuesday! You and me both!
I looked forward to release day way more than I do now
Look big box stores no longer sell movies because the demand isn’t there anymore because digital media and streaming like Netflix, max, peacock and Disney+ and so on has taken over so why would the average person buy a movie when it will most likely end up in streaming
Amazon is not a venue for collectors. Lots of ''new'' comics, Funkos, new release
Blu ray slip covers often arrived damaged.
It really is taking all the fun out of it! Thats why I completely stopped buying graphic novels too much headache.
I got 2 steelbooks and 5 blu rays and it came in a box.
The box is usually the best option, very hit or miss with most of mine coming in bubble mailers still.
I pre order from them every now and then. now I use Roughcut video in Canada for umbrella mvd.ETC. if it cheaper on amazon I will pre order.
Yeah I will do the same just try and use them less, sometimes the savings is worth the gamble.
3 weeks domestic!!! Fuck that! lol I hardly ever buy used on Amazon if I can help it. I prefer eBay & only with photos
Same man the only thing I ever purposely ordered used from Amazon was that Just Friends Import.
Yes all delayed and damaged!
I’m going to start getting my premium editions from other sites. Amazon has more older titles that’s what the site is better for.
I also do need replacement cases for all of my format movies
it really sucks to have to spend money to replace them.
@ I don’t blame you
Survivor is unphased by Amazon LOL Yet alone package theives, Fed Ex Trucks raided in NY LOL Thrift stores remain my hold out, local game stores that have media as well, Vintage Stock is another place I move around at too but the Thrift turn over is a daily slot machine, and yes there is a lot of crap lol, diamonds show up too like Black moon rising with Tommy Lee Jones, and written by John Carpenter.
I've had that happen too very frustrating!
I have been collecting since my first year on RUclips the age of 19.
Awesome you have been doing it for a long time! what was your first purchase; do you remember?
@ thanks
I had this issue also
Very frustrating
I did my very first preorder that’s is 2009 remake Friday 13 from Arrow video
very nice, great movie too.
I agree with packages from Amazon
Pre orders suck.
Yeah it’s something I know I scoffed at a few years ago and now it’s do it or miss out or over pay later!
Yeah Amazon is not first come first serve which seems odd to me. Yeah I am switching my media orders to Walmart it’s just too frustrating.
Also I have never ever ever got something early ever from Amazon lol never
Movies sent in paper envelops their cheap I hate amazon
I to go tons of stores and purchase movies titles releases
that is wonderful news
I take in tons of movies I’m supporter for movies fir channel recommend them
very cool!
@ definitely
Play Amazon games. Win Amazon prizes.
😂😂
Wrong you can't return a movie because you didn't like it
My ex wife's brother bragged about doing that all the time he would give the reason of damaged or not working.
Hate watch that shit 😂
That’s what I’m going to do 🤣
@ 🤣
Gave up on physical media a year ago. All these issues go away.
I can't do it, going digital feels soulless. I have so much music on my phone that I never listen too.
When i get a crunched slip, i send it right back and get another
makes sense just frustrating though.
