Difference between the GOLF GTI and GOLF R are as follows:
The R is different in these areas specifically engine. In other words both cars are great, golf R being the stronger engine.
- Cylinder head (made from a different alloy compared to other engines in this module because of higher thermal stress).
- Exhaust valves (hollow, higher Ni content, nitrided).
- Exhaust valve seat rings (improved temperature stability and wear resistance).
- Exhaust camshaft (adapted valve timings).
- Compression ratio 9.3:1 with different pistons.
- Piston cooling jets (higher flow rate).
- High pressure injectors (even higher flow rate).
- Bigger turbo, IHI IS38.
- Charge pressures of up to 17.4 PSI (1.2 bar).
- High performance main radiator with 1-2 auxiliary radiators (depending on country specifications)
- Sound actuator (for the occupant cell) and active exhaust flaps in the exhaust system.
I agree, VW have really gone over and beyond to ensure that the extra power in the R doesn't kill the engine, No shortcuts taken here.

I've got gti PP. Comes with VAQ diff from factory but apparently a tune takes it above the torque it can handle as its an electrically controlled clutch system like Haldex. Rather than a purely mechanical like wavetrac or quafe diff
I’m sourcing a lsd need to get one ready for pod the car is still in the making me and Ricky was on about end of summer doin a reunion cause I have plans for the car it’s 50% done

A few more important differences in the R version of the EA888 - "the cylinder head (together with exhaust valves, valve seats, and springs), pistons, high-pressure injection system, and turbocharger" are revised/upgraded from the GTI mill. The block is the same.

PERFECTLY modified from a styling perspective. It still looks stock but has a little more aggression to it. I call it OEM+, like how a special GTI should look from the factory. Kudos my friend. Well done.

Sideways Sid I used to experience a similar thing when the front drivers drum brake on my mini would bind and throw me across the road lol
I already once drove an MK6 GTI with around 470HP, the wheelspin was a bit silly but once it grips.. and these tuned 2.0 TSI's do really sound badass, especially downtown with the windows down :D

Top car owned by an obviously top lad - only question for me is why didn’t he go for the R and tune that to 500bhp? Probably not as much fun as the GTi, but saves money buying clean pants every day 😂. Ricky - once again, the quality of the video is on point! No one else on here comes close.
