      Your fists should be used to fight your way to a knife, which can be used to fight your way to a pistol, that you can use to fight your way to a rifle - if you own anything more serious than that, and need to use it, you are using an area weapon.

    I think people get confused because you don't actually see a hit. These are all theoretical for sparring purposes. The moves are so fast you miss the "hits", that's the sign of a true master. If this were an actual fight it would have been long over.

    Once again I thought it would be useful to draw the attention of many of the negative commentators to a fairly simple fact. Would you comment on a video demonstrating an armbar in BJJ with things like "I'd just stand up and stomp on him", or "I'd just start punching him, BJJ doesn't work."?
    Once again, this video is demonstrating one component of a complete system. As much as I'd like to be able to demonstrate all of Diamondback Escrima in one video, that would be quite a long one. Rest easy knowing that kicks, knees and grappling are all accounted for in the system.

    Too many keyboard warriors and gunslingers in this thread. Just to make things clear. This is not a sport. It is a means of survival. No one should compare this to MMA. Nor should they compare this to guns. People need not show or tell other people their secret techniques just to impress you, because it is a secret. We have dealt with all this problems since the Spaniards came to our islands with sabres and cannons more than 500+ years ago, Japanese with their bayonets and katanas, and Americans with their advanced weaponry. But we did not become Hispanic, or Japanese, or American. So for a keyboard warrior that the most violent time in his life was school bullying, please give respect.

    Anyone calling these guys "hacks" or saying this isn't real martial arts is simply ignorant of fighting mechanics, drills, technique, etc. Also, this is clearly lighthearted (not even official) sparring for fun.
    Whether with knives, empty hands, or a broken pool stick I guarantee at 100% full force and speed either of these two men would DESTROY most, if not all, of your keyboard warriors' favorite MMA champs if similarly armed. There is a reason why eskrima is taught to army special forces around the world, including the US, IDF, etc.
    Also, don't compare this to MMA period; this is a 'weapons'-based fighting system, which is why you don't see it in MMA or typical sportfighting. It's designed for defense against and delivery of murder, plain and simple. It is meant for street fighting, and war. Throw your MMA fighters into a bar brawl or life-or-death combat situation with a group of master eskrimadors, and your MMA fighters will most likely be dead when the dust settles.

    Please remember that this is one tiny excerpt of one tiny aspect of a much larger system. Saying, "This wouldn't work against a prison yard rush" is somewhat ignorant, as this video is not demonstrating knife defence or knife fighting, rather a way to break down stick to stick work at close range, and develop speed, distance and reflexes.

      As a beginning student in Canete Doce Pares, it fascinating to watch the real experts spar and train full contact. What I'm struggling with is when watching full contact one or two stick matches, it looks like a bunch of haymakers and wild swinging without any real mastery of defensive/offensive techniques. The mano mano is fun to watch, as well, but I'm not sure how realistic the trapping techniques would be against a street boxer, kickboxer, or someone who rushes in to tackle and take it to the ground. I also never see, even the top practitioners, training with fully resisting partners. It's always with compliant partners where the techniques work every time. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @MrHazzerk
      @MrHazzerk  10 лет назад +2

      When they play full contact at Doce Pares, they use the armour yeah? With the armour there's no real need to defend yourself as you're not properly punished if you get hit, so all you really see is that sort of flailing.
      It's hard to go full force against a training partner without hurting them, but if you have a look at some of our other videos you see how we do full contact cane sparring, (with just a helmet and gloves), where body shots really hurt, and more defensive movements are required.

      Kenpo Sean "Style" has little if anything to do in a real fight, just as your belt color doesn't mean nothing. It's all based on a person's will to win and warrior spirit. You can learn a million techniques and all it takes is one at right time to finish fight. It may not work for you because you have little understanding of how it works. As soon as a real fight happens technique goes out the window, if you are thinking of a technique your gonna throw you're gonna eat knucks. Martial artist aren't good fighters they're professor's with alot of theories. Maharlika kuntaw 5 yrs.

    • @topherodesk
      @topherodesk 9 лет назад +1

      Kenpo Sean the trapping are for close quarter....in real fight, your opponent will attack you directly without footwork... everything is direct... unlike in sports or competition... people can freely use their footwork in sports and so they can easily evade...but in street fight, your opponent will fight your directly at close quarter.. This is where the trappings are effective... .. the mano mano is just similar to kick boxing too... the principles are the same....

In the same way that a pure bjj match would look like 2 guys hugging each other over an extended period of time. But for us martial artists, we can already count the number of hits the other guy got in eskrima, or in bjj who has control of the fight (even if he's the one on his back).
    Watch the eskrima episode of human weapon in history channel. You'd see when jason sparred with one of the eskrima fighters, it seems the fighter was just flailing his stick mindlessly but afterwards, jason is already filled with bruises while the eskrima fighter was scot-free

    Just so a lot of you may or may not know, "eskrima or escrima" is not just stick fighting, it's also sword fighting. There are blades used and one is called the "kris". It's a wavy looking type of blade with a point at the tip as some of you already know. So let it be known that the word "escrima or eskrima" defined actually means "SKIRMISH" and not necessarily directed to only "sticks" used in the filipino arts.

I've been training arnis, eskrima, and kali for 3 years, went to some tournaments, met a lot of good arnis players and these 2 dude in the video are really good. They are truly masters. I have played different styles of arnis and this eskrima stye might be just a child's play to you but it's really harder than you think. Eskrima was my first arnis style, and it was really a pain in the ass, i always got bruises and wounds after training. Then i switched to another style which we had pads, armor and go wild crazy about hitting the opponent. I'm live in the Philippines and the players from Cebu are the best, they fly, fast as lightning, and even has hidden techniques idk about. The point is, these masters know what they were doing, every move were reflexes. I tell you, when you get into a fight with these guys even without weapons, they'd still woop your ass.

    • @MultiRainday

      The green guy is playing defense because Eskrima here in the Philippines is taught for defense. When i was training eskrima, everything i learned was defense, the offense were just all basic strikes but we mostly use defense in eskrima. In kali, we focus on offense, combo and dodging.

      Daniel Thompson eskrima is not about flash, it's about functionality in tight quarters. The whole design of it is for self and family defense in doorways or other locations where you were likely to be attacked in the Philippines back in the 1600's.
      It's about getting the first strike in and disabling your opponent as quick as possible . It is not flashy, it is functional.

    Looked like a whole lots of stick clashing and "playing" to me, rather than a concerted attack by either. Tho i have no doubt they are both highly skilled, and either one would have no problem disarming/beating "lesser" eskrima practitioners, the fact is, you don't need that level of training/skill to handle 99% of street attacks (unless you live in Cebu i guess ) You don't need to be a 6th Dan to be able to defend yourself. Martial arts expertise promotes humility and good character. So the guy who swings a club or knife at you in the street is less likely to be such an expert. BUT i appreciate the dilligence and superfluous skills high level instructors/Masters have, in ANY art.

We labeled it as "self-defense" because you can use it that way, but the way it was taught to me out of a garage was combative, meaning when presented with a threat you respond with equal and/or greater force.

      +Ito Ke (Kageookami) Brother as you said, in your system it is customary to always defend against your opponent by attacking with greater force. That in itself is self defense, you are using defensive moves to counter an opponents offensive moves. Defense is not just techniques that defend against your opponents techs, it is moving and acting so that your enemy is crushed before you utterly.

One of these strikes landing can crack bone and rupture blood vessels, all from a 2ft length of wood in a space the size of a gas station restroom.
    That Grandmaster doesn't have a gym, dojo or whiskey endorsement. He learned on the street and from other masters like him. This art was used to fight against enemies with knives, swords AND guns. If he's close enough to extend his arm, you're in deep trouble. Go get your gun brave one. You'll need it.

That's the reason the Spanish banned the swords and the practice of the art and few practitioners continued the art by pretending it's a dance.

      We should be helping them anyway, regardless of the FMA. They are damn good people, and I would much rather see my tax dollars go to them, instead of ending up in the pockets of middle eastern dictators.
