when I'm playing by myself, I tend to play a bit off the books. If I have 12 against 2-5, I'll hit. Even staying on 14 against 7. I know plays like that are frowned upon but it's also gambling off statistics. The likelihood of me getting less than 10 is greater so 12 to me is a safe card not to bust. I also find doubling 10 is safer than 11, for some reason there's always an Ace hiding next. It's all gambling, no real strategy since they say it's the same in the end, but in the moment I've found myself losing a lot less and I'm gonna keep trying this. No more saying "it's what you have to do" for me

I try my best to play consistently because I think it works out better over time, but sometimes you have to mix it up if nothing else is working
