@@MiyagiontheTrail I bet it was! It's one thing to experience this hike, but to share this with your hiking friends is priceless. Your team will have memories for a lifetime! Excellent work on the filming, editing and narration. Great job!
Thanks brutha!! Loved that slow motion shot of you at the beginning where I introduced you guys. That smile of yours sums up the trip....simply amazing! Memories for a lifetime my friend.
This video is fantastic. I love the educational parts, I think that is missing from most videos I watch. Not only do I want to see what the area has in the way of views, I also like to hear how a place came to be. I am always in awe of how our parks are built. How a boardwalk or bridge in the middle of nowhere came together. I am eternally grateful to those that put in the work so we can enjoy Mother Nature.
Thank you so much Amanda for the kind words. The history of our parks and wild places has always fascinated me and I love sharing this with my viewers. I think it increases the appreciation that we have for a place and my hope is that with increased appreciation comes stewardship. Despite the amount of people that visit the Grand Canyon it was one of the cleanest parks I have ever been to. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and support our channel. Trips and I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! Fist bumps ~ Miyagi
Thank you for the kind words Joyce. Learning a bit about a place tends to give a person a greater appreciation for it. I admire these places just as much for their history as for their amazing scenery. Stay safe & Happy New year to come. Fist bumps ~ Miyagi
one of the better videos ive seen. photography is excellent. Music is good. not offensive. narration was excellent. Congratulations! You have succeeded where others have failed. Haw !!
Wow! What an exceptionally well done and beautiful video! I thought I was doing a decent job but you have really upped the game. Simply amazing and well done! One of the best videos I have seen in a long time. I have a lot to learn, thank you for sharing.

(Tim here) Dude!! You're all upping your game!! That intro was, dare I say STUNNING! The shorts are the EIGHTH wonder!! Seriously, great video. Scorpions were wild!!
Hey Tim! Thanks so much...I had a blast editing this one. I too liked the intro. I think I found the right music track to capture the feeling of first experiencing the canyon. It’s epic!! Awesome glowing scorpions🦂

Such a cool trip~ It is so beautiful there. Holy cow, you are right the views are epic. I loved watching your different perception of the trip than the others. Great video!!!
Thanks for explaining the differences between camp sites. I almost feel like I was there with you guys; you all did a great job of capturing your adventure but this vid really caps it off. Nice to see the prelude too.

This was pretty awesome for just part 1. I do think my idea for the title was a little catchier but whatcha gonna do right. 🤣 I do believe this is where I'm dragging my son next fall. Thanks Miyagi.
Your title choice was number #1 but the RUclips police made me change it. 😂 😆 😝. Your son will love it! Friggin magical every step of the way. Thanks Mike!!
Great video. Looking forward to seeing it myself next year. Question. You had a hydration line coming out of your smart water bottle. Is that an osprey water line cut?
Hi Rick. The hydration line is from a company called SourceOutdoors.com. The product is the “Convertube Adapter” $24. I just shortened the tube length so the bite valve is in reach of my mouth while hiking and the bottle is mounted in my shoulder pouch. @waymarkgear has a similar product out now too. The “One Bottle Hydration System” looks similar at $29.
Amazing footage! I would love to get to the point of being physically capable of doing some hikes like this someday! I have a ways to go but I WILL get there. Awesome video, thanks for sharing!
Woah Miyagi you truly have outdone yourself with this trip video!! Cannot believe how you capture some of those shots of the Canyon vistas you were blessed to see, really top notch quality. Can’t wait to see part 2 Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thanks Brent! For my pack I’m using two versions of the Waymark backpack 🎒. For anything less than a two day trip with ultralight gear I’m using the Waymark “Mile” backpack. For everything else I’ve been using the Waymark Gear Company’s “Thru UL 40 liter”. It’s got a super awesome harness system that doesn’t wear on my shoulders after 30+ miles on trail. Robust material and light enough that I’m not breaking the bank at all trying to stay as light as possible. I’m super happy with their pack lineup!! For micro spikes I’m using the Kahtoola MICROspikes. They’ve been going strong for a few years now. Thanks for tuning in & the great questions. Fist bumps ~ Miyagi
How long did it take you to get to Phantom Ranch? Then how long did it take to get to Cottonwood CG from Phantom. Lastly how long was it to hike up to North Rim from Cottonwood. I'm doing this exact route/stop in May. Thank you in advance, and great video.
Hey Sam! We left at daybreak and make it down to the ranch just before noon. We were going quite slow though because everyone was filming. Same deal for Cottonwood. Lots of filming and an extended break at Ribbon Falls. Made it to Cottonwood with about an hour and a half to sunset. I used the Old Bright Angel trail to get up to the North Rim the second day. Not recommended as it’s 90% bushwhacking through relatively unmarked trail. If you’re staying on the North Kaibab trail it’s a walk in the park….just elevation you have to deal with. It’s 6.43 miles from Cottonwood to the Ken Patrick trailhead. I’d plan a slower pace maybe 2mph or so to account for photography stops and breaks. Maybe a conservative 3-4 hours unless you just like pounding the miles.
