If you didn't catch the first part which has a bit of introduction and the initial kilometers, here it is. Thank you for watching! ruclips.net/video/tZpz0BkZO3Q/видео.html
Yes, I enjoyed Helsinki, and especially the fact that you have the archipelago right outside the city, literally with small rocky islands a few meters off the coast. I'll show the Suomenlinna fortress and skerries on the way in a later video at some point. There's a historically very important fortress on those islands, and a WW2 submarine which is now a museum!
Awesome! It was September, so water wasn't freezing yet and kayaking alone wasn't hazardous I guess? "Fernweh" on Mein Schiff 4 does not have really any proper English translation. It would be opposite of homesick. It is a feeling that forces us to get up, go out and explore. I guess you are very familiar with it :)
Yes, exactly, Robert! "Fernweh" doesn't really translate directly into Swedish either, I think it may be unique to German. Wanderlust maybe? Anyway, have definitely experienced it many, many times across the years and the only way to cure it is to travel, or to go exploring by kayak or similar 🙂 As to the water temperature, you're right, water temperature would have been below 15C by then. I was moving enough on a bit more "open" water (even if not too far from land") to warrant a drysuit even if it had been a bit warmer in the water. I got splashed good from swell waves from a passing ferry at one point, and that drysuit was most welcome 🙂But overall, yes, I was in calm conditions, just having to watch out for all the boat traffic - it was a safe paddle for me. On our sea kayaking trip in three sea kayaks the next day, also on sea water but in a different archipelago, we all wore drysuits. Frohe Weihnachten!
@@AirOnTheWater Wanderlust is close to Fernweh, but not the same. Both force us to get out, but for different motivation. Wanderlust demands traveling (literally desire to hike). But act of travel must be active, using own muscles. Fernweh is about missing unknown far away. In my case, I don't suffer much from Fernweh (anymore), but often get Wanderlust - then just go out and do some hiking / kayaking around - Wanderlust does not demand necessarily to explore new destinations. Albeit nature does its thing and changes everything all the time - my walking/kayaking paths maybe same on the map, but they offer new experiences every time. Cruising on a ship is all about going to new places, discover unknown, hence Fernweh. Wanderlust would not fit here, passengers sit, relax and enjoy views and do not do much of trekking. Although I was surprised how much walking I did on a cruise ship ;) God Jul och Gott Nytt År!
@@robertbloch1063 Hey, that's a really good explanation! I know for sure that I suffer from Paddelweh many times across the year... eventually I do something about it 😅Cheers and also best wishes for the 2025 year of adventures!
@@AirOnTheWater I like "Paddelweh"! Great word! Are you sure you are Swedish and not German by any chance? ;) I get Paddelweh especially in the spring, when warm winds start to blow. I just cannot stop visualizing paddle in my hands.
@@robertbloch1063 Hehe. I'm afraid I'm Swedish, but I've used German professionally for a few years as one of the main languages in different settings. Paddelweh is among the worst! Almost as bad as icecreamlust when there isn't a kiosk nearby... which, incidentally, also can be a problem during paddling!

Great follow up to the last 👍 nice one Patrik. Some bloody good views, like that ship. Wow it's Big.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Thanks, yeah, imagine how many kayaks you could fit in there ;)

That cruise ship looks like my personal idea of hell. No room for other humans in the X500 :P
@@6yjjk Haha, hard to hide from all the others while on board, I guess. Plenty of space for Moomin though!
