Why do Chinese people seem to have such a hard problem learning other languages, yet Koreans seem to find it way easier? I thought they had several languages in China and most people were at least bilingual.
People will call all of them "fake polyglots" but there's something very real and insanely cool about what they do/did, there's a reason people love this stuff. Followed Laoshu since middle school, man will always be a legend
I love this video because Xiaoma is approaching people while speaking Chinese from the get go. It's funny the first fifty times to see people react when he switches from English to Chinese but I've been wanting to see this kind of honest exchange for quite some time! Thanks Xiaoma! :)
@@Alvin_Vivianyeah. Not even probably these 3 languages ARE the top 3. And I guess Arabic and Hindi you can basically speak to anyone across the world haha
I can understand this so much, at the part when they were giving discounts! Because I was shopping in HK and even though I am born in Hong Kong, I look like I am from UK and when I speak Cantonese, the people at the stores would give me discounts. Got two plush toys for 90HKD instead of 120HKD, small discount but better than nothing. Furthermore when I was in the UK and went to Chinatown to buy dumplings and my mum wanted some, I got 6 pieces for 4 pounds instead of 4, the guy was like I'll add extra because you are helping your mum and can speak good mandarin!
I've had similar cases here in Australia when simply greeting or thanking in Mandarin. I *_LOVE_* most Asian foods and I figure if they are going to take the time to learn English, the least I can do is learn theirs to say "thank you" But yes, I've had bigger serves of food and extras added simply for taking the time to thank in Chinese.

Me, as an Indian who speaks Chinese watching the Chinese teacher at 2:20 say that Indians are the fastest Chinese learners 👀🤫. Xiaoma responds with a logical explanation though: Indians are generally multilingual (especially if coming from a big city), and are exposed to multiple completely different and distinct languages at a very early age, so one is exposed to a variety of sounds, tones and grammar structures. This may be a prominent reason as to why the Chinese teacher also felt that Indians are quite good at picking up other languages (Chinese, from her example). Xiaoma was almost single-handedly responsible for me picking up Chinese!
it makes you wonder if the people in the meshed center of africa where chad and nigeria are would be good at picking up Chinese because that's where 3 major African language families converge

I've been following your journey since the beginning. I love always seeing their reactions. You work hard to learn and respect each person and their culture.
Hi Ari, I'm a Paraguayan who lives in the States, and I've been trying to learn the country second official language, Guarani. It's very hard cause Guarani is more of a spoken language and not so much a written one, and even if you do write it down, it's... very complicated. I wanted to see if you could understand/speak it somehow as an interesting challenge.
