Paula does both her and Janet’s choreography
Rush Rush with Keanu Reeves is a MUST
Rush Rush is her best song.
@@KejaHuds agreed
That song is BOMB!!
@@joellenglass2344 yes it is
Omg I love that song and video ❤
MC Skat Kat was created for the video, when his creator Michael Patterson decided to recreate a Live/Animated dance scene from the idea of the scene in Anchors Aweigh starring Gene Kelly, when he danced with Jerry mouse from Tom and Jerry in much the same fashion. The rap and voice for Skat Kat was by Derrick Stevens. The character released the album The Adventures of MC Skat Kat and the Stray Mob in 1991. Paula Abdul made an appearance in the music video of the only single "Skat Strut". Paula was her own choreographer during her career and early on was Janet's. Later Janet did most of her own but also used some other very talented Choreographers. Keep doing the Paula Abdul songs please.
I love that you know this! Awesome :)
Starring both Gene Kelly *and* one of Jay’s favorite crooners: Frank Sinatra. But yeah, this music video was totally inspired by that scene with Gene and Tom of Tom & Jerry fame.
I think you would love "Cold hearted snake"
There was a second single - Big Time.
Janet didn't do most of her own choreography. She has always worked with very talented choreographers.
“Rush rush” is my favorite Paula Abdul song! ❤❤
It's so beautiful.
Yeesssss! I love it so much!
That video & song combination brought a real cinematic experience to us waaaay before technology managed to do it for the masses!
100%. Much of her stuff is weak vocals and generic pop. Rush Rush is a damn good song. And she gave her best vocal on that one. I appreciate it.
I wonder why music producers for this whole period decided that drum machines sounded better than a drummer. Yikes.
I am a rocker woman from way back but I love Paula! Her music is catchy and she’s so perky and sweet. I love her. She’s beautiful and she can dance her tail off. I loved her on American Idol. She’s just a gem of a person. Perfect song to start the weekend. Thanks y’all!
I grew up the same. Plus my grandpa loved her!
Wasn’t she a Fly girl?
@Smyelin She was a Laker girl. Cheerleader Paula truely stood out. Even then her creativity was recognized. Dancing must be in her DNA. A great singer and YES she is very easy on the eyes.
@@smyelin1328Paula was a Laker Girl
Jennifer Lopez was a fly girl and I think so was Rosie Perez. If not maybe a Soul Train dancer?
I remember seeing this video back when it first aired....to say blown away is an understatement. Such an extremely talented woman. Her choreography and voice are matchless.
Lol didn’t really think about this until I started reminiscing. But her being in a cartoon and interacting with him was big time special effects at the time. I remember people making a big deal out of video because of it. Crazy how far we’ve come 🤯
Yessss....Paula choreographed all of Janet Jackson's dance music videos from Janet's "Control" album....videos for "Control", "What Have You Done For Me Lately", "Nasty", "When I Think of You" and "Pleasure Principle". Paula is the friend Janet is talking to about her bf when the "What Have You Done For Me Lately' video begins and she's also one of Janet's friends in the "Nasty" video.
Janet’s When I Think of You just make me so happy when I hear it.
I think the only other big hit off this album you haven't listened to is Forever Your Girl. It's a really sweet high energy song, and I think you'd like the video because it's got a bunch of kids dancing in it that she choreographs. The whole album is good to be honest, and so is her second one. Things started going downhill her third album, but it still had a couple of good songs on it.
A big YES to Forever Your Girl!!!
"The Way That You Love Me" was also a big hit, and "Knocked Out" did pretty well also.
“Promise of a New Day” is one of my favorite Paula Abdul songs.❤
Yes! I still love it.
Love love Paula Abdul and this video! ❤️My kids and I use to get down dancing to this! My kids liked the rap part! Me …. I loved Paula’s singing and dancing! Nice song!
That's the video that they stretched to make her look thin.
This is the third Paula Abdul song you've done. The crazy thing is they're all from the same album, and you're only halfway through that album. That album had 6 singles. Five of those were top 10 songs, and four of those were #1.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "Rush, Rush" and "Forever Your Girl" !!!
edit- additional vocals by Bruce DeShazer and Marv Gunn, aka the Wild Pair. MC Skat Kat's rap was written and performed by Derrick Stevens.
Forever your girl for sure!
Paula Abdul did appear in Janet Jackson's 'What Have You Done For Me Lately?' video.
Also in ‘Nasty’ 😊
That one’s such a happy song! I wasn’t the biggest Paula Abdul fan, but every time I hear that song, especially with the rap, I do smile!
I remember going to a Lakers game around 1982 and purchased the program/magazine. Inside there was a pic of the Laker girls, and the name Paula Abdul stood out to me because although she was not yet famous, I remember thinking it would be funny if she married Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. She would’ve been Paula Abdul-Abdul-Jabbar.
This was an iconic video, as it was on heavy rotation on MTV. Paula is a true talent, and this song was awesome. I am glad you all liked it!
Her style was a perfect fit for early MTV.
Laker owner Jerry Buss recalls: "My son John came to me and said, 'Dad, there is a Laker Girl who is incredibly talented,' I said, 'Yes, they all are.' He said, 'No, Dad, she's going to be a superstar.' Then he laid out the rest of her career for me, as he saw it. It was Paula Abdul. John was right."
During an interview with late-night talk show host Arsenio Hall, Abdul recalls she had to game the system a bit to get in. "It starts with the mantra that 'no is just the beginning of a negotiation,'" Abdul told Hall, describing the hectic Laker Girl tryout at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. "I'm used to not being selected. I'm used to rejection, which I embrace because I have nothing to lose."
Abdul said she registered a second time using her middle name Julie, misspelling her last name and wearing a second costume. She was cut a second time. She said when instructors attempted to separate the rejected dancers, she ignored the instructions and moved to another competing group and was selected to the team after a third try.
"That's a great story of tenacity," Hall said at the end of Abdul's story. "It's a story for young women and young men to hear and say 'never give up' for starters and also you must have been a horrible dancer that you had to go three times," Hall added jokingly.
Love me some Paula Abdul. This video was on nonstop during its run on MTV. It was also in bars as they installed television screens to videos to get you to dance back then.
If you guys like this, you will love Mick Jagger dancing with a cartoon cast in the Rolling Stones song, HARLEM SHUFFLE.
As for Paula. More, more, more. Let's get to VIBEOLOGY,
THE WAY THAT YOU LOVE ME
and BLOWING KISSES IN THE WIND.
You're right. She brings the energy and passion ion to her music. It still have her calendar from the early 9o's to fondly remember her heyday. Big pictures and a great smile. She is still Forever Our Girl.
This was a unique video for the time. No one was doing live/animation in music videos. She made it fun to watch.
I LOVE Paula! This song is great, video is great, and she is always really easy on the eyes. ;) Janet Jackson, Paul Abdul, and Toni Basil. Three awesome female artists that can really dance!
Paula is incredibly talented!!!❤❤
OMG I've been hoping you'd get to this one soon! This was so cool and fresh back in the day. EVERYBODY loved Paula Abdul!
Paula Abdul’s music is so underrated she is 1 of the greatest pop stars of all time and her songs were so iconic in the late 80’s and early 90’s
I was in high school when this came out- omg it was so popular.. I’m 48 now, and I sang every word along with the song ! Lol I still remember- you know it’s a great song when you still remember all the words and I haven’t heard it in years! Good pick!!
To truly appreciate this video and song you would need to be a teenager when it came out. The memories are still so freaking fresh.
Oh my gosh, y’all are really taking me back to my teen years today! PLEASE check out her song “Rush Rush” next. 💝💙
Paula is awesome! A few awesome ladies of the 80's/early 90's to check out... Jody Watley ("Don't You Want Me", "Looking For A New Love"), Karyn White ("Secret Rendezvous", "Superwoman"), and Sheena Easton ("The Lover In Me", "Strut").
Jody Watley and Paula Abdul were Fierce Rivals in the 80's with ALL of their songs transforming into hits. Jody Watley was in a Group called Shalamar and was a Soul Train Dancer as well. Not only did Jody win a Grammy but so did her Rival Paula. Jody's music is great dance music with dance moves to die for, and her first song was a HUGE HIT and knocked out of the park with "Looking for a new love (hasta la vista baby)" After came hit after hit with: "Don't you Want me" "Real Love" "Some kind of lover" "Everything" check her out, you won't be disappointed.
I've asked for some Jody Watley on the channel. Hopefully one day
Jodi Watley was a better singer. Paula was a better dancer. But they haven't reacted to Jodi yet.
@@blackblake3658 As a singer Paula was a good dancer. 🤣
I so want them to react to both Jody and Shalamar
And there it is… next video tonight. 😉
Paula Abdul is one of the best dancers out there. So much choreography under her belt.
You two will absolutely love "Vibeology"!!! As far as Janet Jackson, I'm still waiting for "Again." It's slow & absolutely amazing!!!
Literally... when this dropped this was the time of life that gives me my fondest memories❤
This is one of her best songs for sure. Love it. But my absolute favorite of Paula Abdul’s is “FOREVER YOUR GIRL”. Back in 1989, I had been dating my ex-fiancé for just a few months at the time when “FOREVER YOUR GIRL” came on the radio while were looking for a parking space at night. I was 25, she was 19. She said, “Stop the car and crank up the stereo!” She then jumped out of the car, ran in front of my car, and started dancing to Paula Abdul’s hit song “Forever Your Girl” in front of my car’s headlights. That was so incredibly awesome! It was quite a sexy and memorable moment I’ve never forgotten. 😍
I'm giggling picturing this. I'm going to do the same thing for my husband.
@@CeliniacForLife Lol. I bet he’ll love it just like I did! 😄
Paula is my childhood in my room with my moms tape singing in the mirror. Love love her. She’s so underrated ❤
I won tickets to see her in concert decades ago. Her feet were like lightning, and her back up dancers and singers were awesome!
I have to say, we danced A LOT in the 80’s. Very fun decade. Between pop and hair bands it was awesome.
Paula Abdul was a choreographer first, then she got into singing for a short time. Like others have said, she worked a lot with Janet Jackson
Loved Paula's music and videos, were very entertaining. She is epic with her choreography no one now can touch her, no one.
Finally!!!! I have been requesting this for over one year. This makes me so happy to see you enjoying this video😊
I love this video! This video was a tribute to actor/dancer Gene Kelly, who inspired Paula! He danced with a cartoon mouse named Jerry in a movie and this is inspired by that!❤❤
Paula Abdul is the choreographer for all of her songs.
In one of his movies, Genr Kelly dances with Jerry of the "Tom & Jerry" cartoons. It's sooooo good!
One of the best videos from back in the day! Paula wasn't JUST a Laker Girl. She became the head choreography after her 1st year on the squad. She was "discovered" by the Jacksons when a few of them saw her performing at a Lakers game. She choreographed Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done for Me Lately", "Nasty" and "Control", and "When I Think of You" videos. She also choreographed the giant keyboard scene for the movie, Big, starring Tom Hanks which if you haven't seen you should. Several other big movies, Coming to America, The Doors, Jerry Maguire, American Beauty. You have to check out Forever Your Girl, Promise of a New Day, Vibeology, (It's Just) The Way You Love Me, Knocked Out, Rush Rush
Another awesome reaction. If you haven't done them yet, consider Paula Abdul: Forever Your Girl and Janet Jackson: Miss You Much. They were both huge hits.
Paula Adbule is a fantastic dancer, she did the choreography for Janet Jackson, Backstreet Boys, NSync and more.
MC Skat Kat was created by Michael Patterson and performed by the Wild Pair duo of Bruce DeShazer and Marv Gunn on "Opposites Attract".
This is the song I think of from Paula. Love it! Always have.
I have been waiting for you all to watch this one. One of her best videos!
It was great to be there for the 80's music video days. This video is a perfect example of how creative so many of the videos were.
This is definitely mine and my wife's song! We have been together 28 years and this song everytime it comes on we just look at each other and just turn up this song because it's us to a tee!! Great reaction and song choice. Paula has had many influences from her dancing she is just incredible love her!!
I am in my 50s. I was too broke for many concerts back in the 80s and 90s. Just saw Paula live two years ago in Vegas. Made me feel like a kid again. Great show
ahhh the 80's BIG hair BIG voice and BIG Songs... what a great decade it was. sounds as good and fresh today as it did wayy back then allmost 40 years ago...
Derrick "Delite" Stevens is the voice of MC Skat Cat, and as for Paula tapping in heels, that's been going on for ages, and your daughte's tap instructor should be able to educate her students about dancers in heels during the 1930s and up.
You guys need to check out dancers like Ann Miller and Ginger Rogers from that era.
Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire are an extremely well-known dance duo.
You couldn't help but love Paula back in the day... she was awesome...
This is so me and my man....lol...and i grew up in this era, so ive always liked this song
Paula Abdul is awesome in every way, great singer and dancer and good lord she's beautiful...gotta love the 80s ❤
Vibeology is another Paula Abdul hit.
Such a feel-good song! I remember this being the first video clip I ever saw a cartoon and human in at the same time. I am a metal head, but I still love these kinds of songs that are just happy and fun.
This is a great way to get into Who Framed Roger Rabbit? for your next movie 🍿😁
Something a few people are forgetting, is that the legendary Stevie Wonder helped in producing Paula Abdul's first album, even provides some background vocals.
Wasn't it her second? He did harmonica on "Will You Marry Me", the last song on "Spellbound".
@@fnjesusfreak Damn. You are correct. I had to just go through all of my copies to make sure. I had it mixed up in my head which one.
Mostly because I had forgotten that it was Jackie Jackson (Jackson 5), L.A. Reid, Pebbles and Babyface on the first album. I had it mixed up and Stevie Wonder and Don Was (From Was(Not Was)) was the second album.
This is one of the most fun videos. It’s such a feel good song and I love Paula Abdul
Just sayin... I suggested this for y'all a looong time ago! Loved your reaction to it! And now I know the name of the cat!
I saw her in concert the year that this song came out. The cat was on a large screen at the back of the stage and she was on a catwalk dancing alongside the cartoon cat. ❤
Paula’s tap was so damn good too. She is an amazing dancer across the board.
And she did it in heels.
Hi my favourite region guys!
It is my favourite song of Paula Abdul (1989-1990). I dance with you.
The best in my opinion is the electric piano, the organ.
I am not able to express many things in my self-learned English
Greatings from an old underground rockandroller, 63 years of age.
from Havana, Cuba.
Paula is so awesome, she was sought out by many for her to choreograph their routines ..... the one and only George Michael asked her to help him choreograph his Faith tour shows . The 80's were such a great time to grow up in, I miss those days so much, the music and artists from that era will never again be duplicated . Great reaction as always guys !!
When I was young I thought I could dance like Paula & Janet 😂😂
The rapping parts of "Opposites Attract" were actually recorded in Minnesota by a local DJ and MC named Derrick "Delite" Stevens.
Ok,growing up as a child of the70's-80's I was obsessed with Paula's dance moves...in the 90's she had a dance work out video I did with her every day!! Lol...as far as opposites attracting,me and my guy are complete opposites...introvert vs. extravert...but we've managed to live together for almost 27 years now!!😄
It creates balance.😂have a great day
ight!! Thanks🎶✌
MC Skat Kat was voiced by Derrick 'Delite' Stevens.
Paula Abdul was Janet Jackson’s choreographer for the album control for the songs off the album Janet her choreographer was Tina Landon
2 weeks ago my daughter was in the Bahamas and ran into Paul Abdul who was attending a wedding at the resort they were staying at. I graduated high school in 83 so she was a big influence.
Paula once said the tap dance section at the end was tribute to Gene Kelly
I first met Paula when she was about 11 years old, then a year or two later she was in my band class at Van Nuys Junior High. She was very much a lady, very classy for a kid. We had a talent show one day and she came onstage and did a dance number. I was surprised because I knew her to be quiet and always not the center of attention, until I saw her dance.
My husband Steve and I are TOTAL opposites!! He’s an Aries and I’m a Cancer. My maiden name was Parker or “keeper of the park” which basically means something along the lines of a Park Ranger. His last name Holzknecht is German for “wood chopper.” Does that say enough for you? But somehow we make it work! We are celebrating 20 years of marriage and 5 years of dating. It’s crazy when you realize you’ve lived with your husband longer than you did with your parents! Thanks for all the great video reactions! You guys are so sweet and I love how the audience can see the love you have for each other. You are genuinely nice people…it comes through your videos… and I wish the best for you both! ❤ Paula Abdul:Forever Your Girl was one of the first CD’s I ever bought. I was about 13-14 when it came out. Awesome album from start to finish!
My mom's maiden name is Mower. My Dad likes to say, in German it means, wall builder. Well, she ended up "building" 7 Wall's! Lol My maiden name! Lol
Paula abdul was a legend too a great artist ..
Rush rush is slow romantic beautful rnb ❤❤❤❤
Oh me and my husband definitely opposites....but we make it work!!
💞 😊
This song & video came out when I was eight years old. I loved the song, the video and the dancing right away, and I thought Paula was fun & really pretty too. And yes, this was considered rap in the era.
Paula Abdul is an icon... My favorite is Knocked out and cold hearted snake now those both have amazing choreography highly recommend
Also man and I have been together 17yrs and 100 💯 opposite lol
This was written & produced by Oliver Leiber, son of legendary songwriter Jerry Lieber who (with Mike Stoller) co-wrote ‘Hound Dog’ & ‘Jailhouse Rock’ by Elvis & ‘Stand By Me’ by Ben E. King (plus many more).
BTW, if you’re wanting more jazz / R&B dancing you should react to Janet Jackson’s ‘Alright’ video.
Jerry Lieber/Mike Stoller, legendary songwriters indeed!
Paula Abdul was my high school crush.
Had such a crush on Paula Abdul. Thanks for bringing that all back.
Love some 80s Paula
You will like Forever Your Girl. Rush, rush is slower. I think you did my favorite already Cold-hearted Snake which was my song in 1989. I loved her and George Michael in the 1980'S
Yes , Finally Did One Of My All Time Favorite Song's, Great Reaction Guy's
Paula is underrated. She’s one of the greatest and most groundbreaking choreographers! She choreo’d all Janet Jackson’s vids from her Control album. You can see her dancing in those vids, too!!
She also choreographed for the LA Lakers girls.
She and Arsenio Hall were a long time couple.
Take your little girl to a fun dance class for kids! It’s a fantastic aid to learning !
It’s a slower one but you should check out her song Rush Rush. The video features a young Keanu Reeves.
And directed by George Lucas! (I think 🤔)
Yessss! Love it sooo much!
Love Paula Abdul
When I was working at a radio station in Houston in the late '80s, Paul Abdul was one of the hot artists at the time. We brought her to town to do a "track date" (a "track date" is different from a concert in that they just play the track to their song on tape while they sing over it, rather than touring with a whole band). I'm not gonna lie to you: she couldnn't carry a tune in a basket. The most off-pitch singer I've ever heard perform live. It was artists like Paula Abdult that AUTO-TUNE was soon invented. Great dancer. Even a better choreographer. (She did the choreography for the LA Lakers Cheerleaders for a number of years.) And in case you were unaware, she was one of the original judges on American Idol with Simon Cowell.
Paula is a sweetie love her energy
MYA - My Love Is Like Whoa! ... that lady is an underrated tap dancer and performer!
Great reaction to a great song! Love Paula!!! In addition to the ones you've already reacted to, please check out her hits "Knocked Out", "The Way That You Love Me", "Forever Your Girl", "The Promise of a New Day", "Vibeology" and "Crazy Cool". Also not to be missed are her more downtempo hits "My Love is for Real", "Blowing Kisses in the Wind" and "Rush Rush", the latter of which spent five consecutive weeks in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the summer of 1991. Beautiful song with an accompanying video inspired by the 1955 James Dean film "Rebel Without a Cause".
Rush Rush is so beautiful and I love the video with Keanu Reeves as Paula's love interest. I remember as a kid waiting all day on a Sunday listening to the Top 100 Hits countdown on the radio with my cassette player on hand to record Rush Rush (and other songs I loved at the time). I also did it with the VCR to record music videos from RAGE (Australia's music TV channel)... boy the 80's and 90's were an amazing time to grow up 🙂.
I’ve been wanting this one for awhile! One of my favorite songs by Paula . Paula Choreographed 3 of Janet’s videos from Control, WHYDFML , Nasty, and When I Think Of You.
Awesome! Wow; I have not heard this tune in 30 years. I was in grade school when this came out! Time to add this to my 80s playlist!
“Opposites Attract” won the Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 1991 and this was parodied on Family Guy where Paula Abdul herself rerecorded her vocals.
Alright my babies.... Paula Abdul was a great force to be reckoned with ‼️ Nice pull-off, Rob Squad Reactions‼️Whoo‼️🎼🎶🎤💯🔥😁
Paula was getting it cracking in this video!!
This song brings a smile to your face.
This was the first song I ever heard by Paula, all the way back when it first came out, and I absolutely loved it! I was hooked and sought out more of her music, as you absolutely need to do! The song I feel compelled to recommend is a little bit different from the Paula songs you've reacted to thus far; it's the title track from Paula's first album, "Forever Your Girl." Such a beautiful song! I have no doubt whatsoever that you'll both love it!
Paula's videos are ALWAYS fun to watch! LOVE HER!
This was the first single I ever bought.
