She wasn't "a" Laker girl, she was "the" Laker girl. People came to the games just to see her and whatever new routine she came up with. The crowd loved her.
@@paranoidewok6772 How old are you? There were lots of people that went to Laker games for other reasons than to watch the basketball game itself and some went to see her.
Paula Abdul has also choreographed for Janet Jackson ( Nasty, When I think of you), movies such as Coming To America, American Beauty and the Academy Awards, numerous times for which she won an Emmy. She also choreographed this amazing video. 👏 she is epic!
@@damiannieman2870 I knew at least one person would help supply the Fosse reference. (I'm sure there are others.) The movie ALL THAT JAZZ is about a director-choreographer (modeled very much after Fosse himself). I highly recommend watching the scene that Paula is paying homage to: ruclips.net/video/ZH4VjhMJQys/видео.html
Also, the show "Glee" did a shorter cover of this song and their choreography was definitely "borrowed" from this video. Probably my favorite Paula Abdul song.
My fave movie of all time too! Huge Bob Fosse fan since I was a kid, watched that movie many times, probably not great for a kid, but the dancing enraptured me and the film grew on me as I grew. I was 11 when Paula’s album came out and I was hooked from the get go. I was seriously taking ballet, jazz, tap and when this video came out I was all over it!!! Cannot underestimate the love I had for Paula. I wanted to dance for her when I grew up. ❤️
My favorite Paula Abdul song, video and choreography. Paula also dated Jackie Jackson (Michael’s older bro) while as a Laker girl, and choreographer for the Laker girls. She also choreographed for the Jacksons and Janet Jackson as well as for the movie Coming to America.
Paula isn't just a dancer, but a choreographer. She creates and arranges the various dance movements for everyone in the routine. All those parts where the different dancers were doing their own moves, that was still all her design and direction. On a crowded stage, a dancer improvising can cause an accident or injury, so she designs every step.
Paula choreography is flawless, she is the only female artist I guess who can spin like that. You guys should react on her opening performance at the 1990 American music award. Best ever!👍
Forever Your Girl, Opposites Attract and Rush, Rush are three others that are great. There are others that charted, but these three, this current one and Straight Up were/are the big ones.
Did you know that Paula choreographed some of Janet Jackson's music videos, and won awards for her choreography? She also the the choreographer for the Jackson's on one of their later tours!
Awesome. Ex-Laker girl cheerleader who went on to choreograph Janet Jackson and became a star in her own right. She's a very creative choreographer and performer.
"Cold Hearted" was first released as the B-side of "Straight Up" in Dec. '88. Then the record company realized they were wasting a potential hit as a B-side. So "Cold Hearted" was removed and a new 2nd mix of Straight Up" was substituted on the B-side. 6 months later, in June '89, "Cold Hearted" was released as an A-side single. Thus, in 1989, "Cold Hearted" became the the 3rd of 6 straight #1s for Paula Abdul on the Billboard Hot 100. Abdul charted 13 singles in the Top 100 between 1988 - 1995 featuring 8 Top 10 singles of which 6 in a row were #1s. "Cold Hearted" peaked @ #19 on the Dance chart and is just listed as the B-side of "Straight Up" on the R&B/Soul chart which was #2 for 2 weeks.
I love how Paula parlayed being a Laker Girl into being one of the most sought after choreographers during the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. She has both an Emmy & a Grammy for her choreography work.

I haven’t heard that one by Paula in awhile! My favorites by her are “Opposites Attract” and “Rush, Rush” . You guys should try those too! The cold hearted snake 🐍 just might be Arsenio Hall or Emilio Estevez 😉
Nah, this was released before her relationship with and marriage to Emilio. Basically this album upped her celebrity status and led to her numerous celebrity relationships. As for Arsenio, even though they had been lovers, they always remained friends. She was frequently a guest on his talk show and he was helping her promote her music, basically helping elevate each other's careers.

Paula was a student of Bob Fosse(Broadway's Famous Choreographer and Director of Chicago and All That Jazz). This song and choreography is dedicated to Bob Fosse as she did her take on The Airplane routine dance in the Film "All That Jazz." And in interview she say that she is a student of Bob Fosse.....but so was a lot of people like Michael Jackson ...... Prince.....Janet Jackson.....etc.
I’ve heard that Paula Abdul really wanted to put out an album while she was such a popular choreographer in the late 80s. So sometimes, she would do choreography for artists and ask them to write a song for her debut album instead of being paid money. Pretty impressive.

“Miss you much” is a Janet Jackson song with a video similar to this one. The songs really different, it’s a love song but it had 2 edits that were played and great dance moves. Also “if”by Janet has a similar type dancing, very sexual. But again the song itself is very different.

The male censors looking scandalized, the female censor looking totally into it. lol This is really such a positive song for women, saying you deserve something better than a prowler, you shouldn't have to sit by the phone, you do not have to be used by someone who's a snake. A week later, on Xmas morning, my auntie handed me my present from her and it was the Forever Your Girl album on cassette. Still one of my favorite memories.
This was the video that when it came out when I was 22 it made me break out in a sweat. My gf at the time was not a fan of me seeing it anymore (after my eyes glazed over), so it became a secret watch and listen for me, depending if it was MTV or the radio.

I had a killer stereo system and opened every window and put this song on repeat and blasted it the day I caught him cheating! He was so embarrassed that after the 3rd day of it, he actually moved from Illinois to Georgia! 🤣
Hey guys- please react to her beautiful she bf “Rush Rush” next- Anotger MAJOR hit of Paulas- Her songs we’re definitely a staple of us teenage girls in the 80’s- Those bad boys we just couldn’t get enough of.. 😬 The video also has Keanu Reeves in it- Its scenes from the movie “Point Break” that they did together back in the day- 😁
You beat me to it!!! I was going to say the same thing. Paula’s faster songs are amazing with her choreography but PLEASE don’t overlook her slower songs. “Rush Rush” is so beautiful and of course the young Keanu Reeves makes it all the more appealing. ❤️ But the movie you are thinking of is “Point Break” with Keanu and Patrick Swayze. Paula was not in the movie and her video to Rush Rush was actually based on the 1955 James Dean movie “Rebel Without a Cause”. Amber and Jay, you have to make it your next Paula reaction.
My daughter at 8 was a huge Paula Abdul fan. She and her friends were singing and dancing all around the house. We had a Paula concert from Japan we watched 100+ times
What a career she's had. She started out as a Laker Girl, became a world-class choreographer for legends like Janet Jackson, and then... boom. By the 1990, everyone in the world knew her name. You've gotten two of her songs under your belt, but she had so many hits it will take you a while to get to them all. "Forever Your Girl", "Opposites Attract", "Rush Rush", "The Promise of a New Day" ALL HIT NUMBER ONE. My personal favorite, though is "Vibeology" just because it's so cool! Bit o' trivia - this video was directed by David Fincher, the man who directed such blockbuster films as "Fight Club", Se7en", and "The GIrl With the Dragon Tattoo".
Paula Abdul had me sing and dancing since the late 80s. I remember this video and song among many others so fondly. I even got a chance to see her in concert at the Barclays in NYC a few years ago.

You like strings? Seriously? Lindsey Stirling is your girl. Best most amazing violin you ever heard. Got to see to believe.
Paula was a choreographer. She choreographed all but 1 video from Janet’s control era before going solo
Love this song and video! Glad you guys like it.

Yep; this song was all over the place when I was in highschool; actually I liked her music; but I'm a metal head at heart. Paula was something else.
Oh yeah! Definitely a great breakup song! I lived in a trailer park and my boyfriend lived right next door. I had a killer stereo system and opened every window and put this song on repeat and blasted it the day I caught him cheating! He was so embarrassed that after the 3rd day of it, he actually moved from Illinois to Georgia! 🤣
🤣😅👍😅🤣
It's a great pop song, checks all the boxes.
Hey guys- please react to her beautiful she bf “Rush Rush” next- Anotger MAJOR hit of Paulas- Her songs we’re definitely a staple of us teenage girls in the 80’s- Those bad boys we just couldn’t get enough of.. 😬
The video also has Keanu Reeves in it- Its scenes from the movie “Point Break” that they did together back in the day- 😁
You beat me to it!!!
Paula was great in her time. grew up with this
Inspired by / Tribute to the legendary Bob Fosse.
The dance scene was a recreation from the movie All That Jazz.
@@sheilareynolds3755, yes and All That Jazz is "... a semi- autobiographical tale written and directed by the legendary Bob Fosse".
Paula Abdul was my first real concert but I had to leave early cuz my little cousin got a headache and couldnt swallow a dang pill.
I've been waiting for this one!!! This is one of her best songs, and she looks amazing in the video!!!
