I own one of each! A 2001 E430 and a 2005 E55 AMG. Both are great cars, I do all my own work and I road trip them regularly. Just drove the W210 over 2000 miles in a week with zero issues and got 28 mpg!

The w210 is a great car. Very smooth, very comfortable, quiet & has the luxury of old school Mercedes. Currently I own a 2000 e200 Kompressor 163hp automatic with just 100k. I really love it and enjoy it every day. Have no rust problems since I live in southern Europe and the car was garaged & low kilometered when I bought it. Especially with the 17'' monoblocks installed it is dreamy! The w211 is not as good as the w210 was, concerning smoothness, comfort, quality of interior, luxury etc. BUT w211 is technologically more advanced in every single way. Having the budget I really won't understand if someone buys the w210 instead of the w211, even if you love the older look. The w211 has newer engine design, less consumption, more hp, more safety features & more gadgets (if needed). If I had the budget today, I would replace my w210 e200k with the w211 e200k 184hp 6 speed automatic in a heartbeat even though I know I will miss certain things A LOT!

I like everything about w210 but I still think w211 avantgarde is better, it feels and looks more luxurious. W212 looks more like 210 again.

The W211 is better than the W210 in nearly every way imaginable. It’s built better, more comfortable, handles better, is more refined, looks far better, has more amenities, etc. I don’t understand how you could say those aspects of the w210 were better.

I have been driving E Class since my 1984 300D I bought new. Owned a 1987 and 1988 W124 300E and still own a W124 1990 300CE. I also previously put 225,000 miles on a 1998 W210 E320 with no mechanical issues at all. I still have a 2000E430 and 2001 E430 Sport. I live in California, and have had no rust at all on any of these cars.
The W210 is the last of the good Mercedes. While it is not as good as the W123 or W124, it is superior to the W211. The engine and transmission made bullet proof while the W211 has issues with both. W211 is definitely lower quality.

The air ride in the w211 is fantastic, it's not expensive to maintain and gives substantial benefit over coil springs. You don't have to replace all four at a time just the same axle.

mmmmm thank you fro watching ! But i can not agree on air ride , it is comfy but you need to replace all of them

Great comparison and video! Ive had couple 6cyl diesel w210's and w211's with me and my family and both are best of E-class, with their flaws of course. Modern to have all 'necessary' luxuries, but simple enough to fix them by yourself, cheaply. Both are fantastic to drive but i prefer w210, because it feels alot lighter than w211 to drive especially with big turbo diesel. I daily drive 320cdi s210 (estate) and its a damn good and playful workhorse with 250hp/600nm and 2100kg towing capacity, without forgetting 2 cubic meter cargo capacity when backseats are folded down. And its pretty quick and goes on a very small amount of diesel considering engines 3.2l displacement and good amount of power it produces.

great comparison video! I've had W124 and W210, and can confirm the W210 is not only reliable but also a joy to work on, especially compared to BMWs and Audis of the same era. and they really are light on their feet with such a stiff chassis - almost like an oversized, leather-lined go kart. I've been thinking about picking up a W211 (E500 or E550), but the brake by wire gives me pause as I really hate electronic control substitutes for primary control systems, it's bad enough the W210 has an electronic throttle.

thank you . agree with you on electronic controls

I bought my 2003 W211 E500 last September, brake computer failed on me within a month. Took it to MB dealer, found out all those braking components have a 25yr/unlimited mile warranty on them, meaning they were replaced free of charge. Took them a week to get the parts in and install them in the car, but it didn’t cost me a dime. After the brake computer failed, I was still able to brake perfectly fine albeit with more pedal movement as those systems DO have a traditional backup brake booster.
I’m dealing with an Airmatic strut failure with my W211 right now, but again, it still drives just fine even with that failed suspension component (albeit I wouldn’t push the compressor much).
The big killer you NEED to watch out for on the W211 chassis is D2B/MOST/Fiber Optic ring issues. The later cars (2005+) had a much more reliable, and much faster MOST optical system. I was lucky enough to buy one of the few 2003 model years that had been upgraded by a MB dealer at one point to that better MOST optical system.
      D2B moves 2.4mb/s
      MOST moves 150mb/s
That’s a WORLD of difference in response in/response back from the cars communication system.
If it’s got the older D2B setup(E55 AMG excluded), don’t ever pay over a $1,000 for the car regardless of if everything else checks out, because that system WILL fail eventually, and you’ll be staring $6,000-$8,000 in repairs in the face, as that optical system runs through the entirety of the car and comes out as one long harness when replaced.

I love w210, no rust problem here in tropical country. But I'd go for the facelift version e240 or e200 kompressor at least. Test drove one, never felt such comfort before, not even in recent honda accord models.

W210 in my opinion looks like The US Chrysler Corp, after the merge, took over the design team and gave us this unattractive, featureless and bubble backed model. The only redeeming quality that was left where those beautiful headlamps, so classically Mercedes. Thankfully, the W212/C207 coupé came out in the early 2010s.
