- Hello and Welcome to episode 89 of Trash to Track
In this episode we take an old Airfix/Mainline Royal Scott Loco thats been used as a child’s toy, being played with outside in the mud, sandpits etc! Not the usual place for an OO Royal Scott! So lets see if we can rescue this loco and restore it back to running order.
Thanks for looking.

The Trash to Track drinking game: every time Dan says "menthylated spirits", throw back a shot of whiskey.
Great video again Dan, I've got several of these Mainline locomotives, just love them, I'm learning all the time when I'm watching your videos, thanks Ktf John
Hi Dan.
Wow what can I say. The work you put into that repair was amazing. Thank you buddy. Just shows what a genuine guy you are.
It was a nice meet up. Graham enjoyed it as well.
Can't thank you enough buddy.
Stay safe.
Pete.
Another great 'how to' Dan!! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Onno.
Great video Dan 😊 the loco turned out amazingly 👍 keep up the good work 👏
Love your series of trash to track. I’ve learnt a lot from them. I enjoy restoring models. I’ve certainly picked up some very good tips from you and also 00bill. Looking forward to more loco’s being restored!
Well done Dan! , another saved from the scrapyard
Wow, that was an amazing repair Dan, you are a genius !! 👏👏. Thanks for the shout out too, it was great to meet up with both you and Pete at Trains4U the other week. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy them! Cheers. ……….. Graham
The Mainline Locomotives really upped the game detail wise revealing Hornby Locomotives to be wanting and was a massive wake up call. Although the Mainline Bodies were nicely detailed the Chassis and Motors left a lot to be desired. Split Chassis is mostly a thing of the past thank goodness.
13.40: you said it as I was just about to type it! Great to see 1 saved from 2.
Good job well saved.
I have the LMS version, and has been one of the fiddliest dang things ive ever worked on and i still cant quite get it running smoothly at low speeds. Im 95% sure its not the quartering. Could be wheelspacing, i had to replace the front driving axle and that wheel is a tad wide but rolls ok. Needs replacement brushed and springs and potentially some more axle work. Looking forward to seeing this repair. If you have an idea why it ran lumpy at low speeds id be grateful to hear it but its fairly low on my list of priotiry right now.
I picked up an Airfix Royal Scot recently but it was a black tender-drive, runs quite well. I have a bag of parts for a split chassis Bachman Pannier Tank but there are some black plastic washers with it. Are they to separate the chassis halves or does it use a card or plastic membrane too?
The Airfix Royal Scot is a decent Model however the Tender Motor is way too over engineered not helped by being mostly plastic.
