Took your advice and purchased the Kabar Spartan Harsey Fighter and holy crap! The knife is complete. I can't believe I don't have to do any mods or buy new scales or sheaths.
I have used the Buck 119 to process a deer a few years back. Such a great knife, held an edge well but it was just a little bigger than I like when processing. It was good for skinning but a little bulky for the rest. I love the review, keep up the great work!
I had the Buck 119, I had to hand checker the black handle so i could grip it with blood on it. It also took a lot to sharpen it. The Cold steel has a nice blade and I loved that handle. I have the Turok, but I need to change out the handle.
I have used a Buck 119 many times on elk. Everything from field dressing to processing. The one I used was a brass and cocobolo version with the standard 420HC blade. It is special to me because it was owned by a friend of mines grandfather who had passed away and left it to her. He taught my CCW class and knew my family for years. It is also from the first production run when Buck moved to Idaho as it has the Idaho tang stamp. My other 119 I have left is a July of 2022 Buck of the Month run. It has a red micarta handle and a flat ground S35VN blade. I haven't used it on anything yet but hope to someday.
I bought the Ka-bar Turok several months ago - my first fixed blade and second knife of my collection. Went camping and had to try battoning . It worked well and was fun as Hell. Effed up the black finish of the knife but I got over it quickly as this knife looks better with use. Got a rise out of everyone looking at me as if I’d lost my marbles. Want to try my hand doing other bushcraft stuff asap. Just bought a Lionsteel M4 in Magnacut and looking at getting the Demko Free Reign in Magnacut when its rereleased. This is turning into an expensive hobby/addiction 😂
Your addition of the Campero made me think of my one Joker knife, the Trampero. I love this knife. 4” blade and it’s very much a Kephart style knife. Beautiful sheath and incredible fit and finish with a Sandvik blade. I paid just under $100 bucks for it.
Price in the recon tanto didn’t last long. Really appreciate the recommendation on upgrading handle scales for my Turok! These are the first aftermarket scales I’ve seen since buying the knife!
Got the Strongarm and Turok based of of GT reviews maybe 4-5 years ago. I recently went on a camping trip with the addition of the Joker Bushcrafter and I found myself gravitating to the Turok for every task. It just gives me so much confidence when using it.
My first hunting knife was a buck 119. To fix the rattling I cut a strip of felt (I think it was welding blanket) and glued it inside the leather strap of the sheath. Held it nice and tight.
Excellent video as always Aaron. Thanks for all of your hard work. I think the only sub-100 dollar knife you left off your list that is a truly epic blade is the Terava Jaakaripuuko 140. That knife is a BEAST.
Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110 or 140. 80crv2 carbon steel. they are made to do the work. No sheath it's $46.99. with left or right leather sheath, $82.99. And with an ambi Boltaron (kydex but better) sheath it's $86.99 USD. I dunno of a better knife in it's price range.
Great video and reviews of very affordable fixed blade knives. Took the time to read all the comments which I don't always have the time. Great suggestions on Buck and other Becker Knives.
Even though these are about $128, my two latest purchases were the Spartan-Harsey, Nessmuk & Fighter. I've seen too many positive reviews on these two fixed blades not to try them. The handles are just SWEET & what's not to like about the 1095 Cro-Van steel & the black powder coat?
My just bought me that Coldsteel Tanto not in Sammi blackened I haven’t been able to put through any passes yet but I can’t wait! Thx for your excellent content Sir 😎🇺🇸🤙🏼
I've got a Turok and I like it too. I didn't get micarta handle scales because I didn't want to change the balance point on it. those G-10 scales are exactly what I'm looking for. I did use black dye on the original tan scales. It worked perfectly. And until I just saw those G10 scales I was very happy with it! lol
Picked up a Knives of Alaska, bushcamp, earlier this year. Right at 100 and very impressive. Had a decent edge, but a little work and it's shaving sharp. Tool steel and a great sheath.
Wow, $75 for a San Mai Recon Tanto is a good deal. I have one that was a "second" from Cold Steel when they used to sell them through the mail. My mother bought it for me and it is my highest priced blade to this day. Whatever the "fault" is, the knife looks perfect and flawless. I have the $50 Recon Tanto and SRK made in the SK5 carbon steel so I can keep the one my mother gave me in pristine condition, but I like them too. I don't have the "Hunter" but would like to. They're all nice knives and good deals even in today's economy. I have seen some super cheap ones and I avoid those because they're probably some of those counterfeit knock offs. I would be cool paying $75 for a San Mai steel knife. I recently purchased a couple of Steel Will knives since they seem harder to find and cost more. I paid a fair price and they're very nice looking, well made knives. I have a 305 and a 315. Both had for less than $70 with shipping. Good steel, but San Mai for $75 is a sweet deal. I have not asked or checked recently, but WalMart still sells the Prodigy for around $56 or $59 which is a slight increase, but still cheaper than the Strongarm and really pretty much the same knife at a lower price. I know one WalMart that carries them and yet the Super WalMart nearest my home only has 2 or 3 in stock at anytime. Weird, but that's how it is with Wally World.
Excellent guide! A lot of these knives under 100 bucks videos show the same 5 knives over and over, 1 thru 10 is a mora and then a Condor terrasaur 9 times. Great info! Been wanting a joker knife for a long time
Nice selection, Aaron. I love the Becker blades, but really wish they would make some stainless versions - The Jaroz, the BK18, BK19, and the BK16 in 14C28N or even 12C27 would be amazing! And in that vein, the knife that I see as an omission here is one of the least expensive - the Mora Kansbol.

The Cold Steel Razor Tek 6.5 is going for about $87 right now online in the US and I saw it as low as $70 recently. It's an excellent do it all survivor knife.

I have nothing but good experiences and highest recommendations for the budget options of mora kansbol, condor woodlore and condor bush lore. I've used them all a lot and find they work for bushcraft amazingly, the mora with it's mixed grind is great for food, game processing and also strong enough for carving. Thanks for the good video once again, much appreciated.
Thanks Aaron, great recommendations. On the sheath noise front, I don't think the rattle when you shake it holding the blade area of the sheath transfers realistically when you are wearing the sheath on your belt. Mostly, I think retention is the most important factor, not noise, like when you shake it from the blade area on the sheath. Thanks again and keep up all the good work!!
The Nessmuk version of the BK18 looks awesome but I hate coated blades and for the cost, I wouldn't want to strip the coating and risk messing up the knife/warranty. Until my $18 Mora HD Carbon Companion fails me, it's my go to outdoor knife. Great video as usual!
I would recommend buying a Becker and stripping the coating, honestly. I have 3 Beckers and they’re best naked, with a developed patina and less drag from the coatings. If you’re wanting something more robust, of course. Moras are great at what they do, just a different animal. My Becker knives are some of my most loved and used.
@@samueljlarson Honestly, one of the mid-size line to start with if that’s the knife size you’re familiar with. So the bk16, bk18, bk19. I myself have the discontinued bk17 that I decided to strip and make ebony handles for in that mid-size range. It’s not too large for most tasks, but chunky enough I feel I can use it for things that with a Mora is risky. I can baton a little harder, the wood splits a bit easier with the thicker stock, and if need be I can pry a split apart without excessive blade flex. If I were to choose from the available in that line, it would probably be the bk16 or Nessmuk. I usually carry a Becker when I’m only bringing 1 knife into the woods without an axe, etc. i think that’s the strengths of some of the larger knives in the line as well. They have the ergos to do the finer tasks but also chop, split, etc. In the right hands any knife can work, but with a Becker I’m never concerned about the knife failing.
Great insights! A channel I've been watching a lot lately called NW Primate uses bigger knives in the way you just described. I'm super interested in the BK nessmuk version so will look for a good deal on one. Have a good day! @@GhostManCutlery
I just finished deer hunting season with my Joker Campero. That thing field dressed a couple deer, cut through the breast plates, and skinned like a dream. The best part, it was still hair popping sharp when I was done! I was glad to see it on your list. I own the master hunter too, but it stayed home in favor of the joker. Instead I replaced the dangler with ulticlip and use it for my daily carry.
I bought the Joker Campero earlier this year and have yet to christen it, though it sounds by your account like it can easily handle the job on large deer . I've also got the original USA made Coldsteel Master Hunter and though it's not actually retired I thought I'd give the Campero a run this last (Australian) winter, just didn't manage to bag a deer. That's hunting.
I know that no deer feeling. The 2 deer it dressed were my buddies. We still have an extended elk season here, so im hoping I get the chance to use it on my own animal! I'd say if you get the chance, bring the Campero into the field. The reason I liked it over the master hunter is the tip is a little more forgiving when trying to avoid opening the gut sack. Still enough there to get the job done, just not as likely to over penetrate.
Lots of epic deals out there this last week. The only one I picked up in this category was the San Mai SRK at like 77-78 bucks. A lot of Cold Steel folders were also the lowest prices I’ve seen in many years. Got a Recon 1 spear point in the high 70’s range also.
Aaron-as always-good work. I have knives in several price ranges but for me, as well as many that consult with me about knives, this range is a prime area that many want to stay in. And I agree 100% about the Gerber but I'm seeing "the Internet" start to tell me it's dated. It's NOT...regardless of the Internet bushcrafters saying different. I have one as a loaner that I would NOT feel any anxiety having as a main knife if circumstances materialized that necessitated it.
Still think you would like the Oden Wolf knife, they have a few models. Get the Hunter model with slight drop point blade and full flat grind or the scandi grind. The models are W Scandi and W Flat.
What have I processed with my buck one nineteen. Deer, Wild boar, Squirrels, And probably a few fish. Just because that's the knife I had. A lot of good buys for under a hundred dollars.
I've actually got five of the nine knives on your list. Lol. I've got the original USA made Coldsteel Master Hunter with a nylon sheath which I've owned for about 25 years. That's pulled a few deer apart over the years. Next is the Gerber Strongarm which is one of my general purpose knives I use whilst camping and hunting. The second Coldsteel product I own is the Recon Tanto in San Mai, I liked this so much I bought it's little brother the Kobun. Next on the list isn't the Morakniv Garberg but also it's little brother the Kansbol. This is a sensational tool and weights next to nothing. Finally the Joker Campero which I've only had since earlier this year and have yet to use to process a deer, however it is in my pack and will get a work out in the future. As a by note though I haven't got a Buck 119 but I have thought about the 120 often but it's too similar to the classic K-Bar USMC that I've owned for over 20 years . Great channel though I'm in Australia and the price of some of these knives come in at way over $100us equivalent but luckily some do. Keep it up.
FYI, the 5 watt rockytalkie, aka, GMRS you do need a license for, but there is no test. I think its a one time fee, and you can set it for multiple users. Yes I am a Ham Radio Operator. Not sure how they did the range testing. But a 5 watt Handi Talkie, on 2 meters with a good long antenna, has a range of maybe 5 miles on Simplex. Yes, its a Ham Radio and you need to take a test and pay a fee, but its worth it.
If anyone likes the Bk18 but money is a little tight, the Kizer/Maverick Harpoon is an awesome alternative. Is $41 for the red micarta version and $47 for the black micarta version on amazon, D2 on the blade steel. I've somewhat abused mine and it holds up really good.

I admit...had to get one after the review and I love it. Thanks for all you do. And the encouraging words on a previous comment on the white river review
Got a Strongarm and Prodigy and BK18, wanted a bigger blade like the Turok. Thanks for the great video, have you looked at Eafengrow or Offgrid knives.
I have the lionsteel m4 It has “hard” m390 steel I use a diamond plate tough at first so I had to have resolve to figure out how to put a edge on. The water stone i have was simply not hard enough. I replaced the g10 scales with bocote wood which made the knife lighter and in my opinion looks nicer. The knife sheath is nice . I have used the design to make a sheath for another knife. I bought the knife because I went on a hiking trip with a enzo badger d2 steel blade and the next day after it got wet it had some rust on it. I sold that knife. Its a good smallish belt knife. Problem with having six fixed blade knives is I only backpack once or twice a year. I think the 5 inch indy hammered knife blade and my battle horse Smokey Mountain razor are better for batoning. I would use the Lionsteel M4 to baton too it’s just not as long. I think you bring a knife because it’s fun and sometimes useful. In my opinion not a necessity. A small pocket saw and pocket knife is actually more practical for what I do. Knives are still cool though. That’s the problem with growing up watching westerns the knife is part of my DNA haha I had Cowboy boots at one time in my life My hunting partner says you can’t have too many knives. I have 3 pocket knives and 6 fixed blades. some fall in the tool category and one in the novelty category. The m4 is kind of a hybrid it’s looks nice and is a good tool.
I've had my Buck 119 since the mid 80's. Used it mostly when camping. But, I have broken down deer to package. Its a good solid knife. I also have the Cold Steel Recon Tanta. I bought mine way back in the 80's, when they where made in the USA out of CarbonV steel. I've never really used it for much. Because I've never had too. Besides, I consider it more of a Tactical knife. I believe the Navy Seals even used them for a time back in the 80's, but I could be wrong.
Love the turok probly my favorite 4 everything my buck 119 failed on me after several yrs (got a young buck was popping through the small ribs to throw it on the bbq and the blade snapped where it goes into the handle) hope cold steel has made its "secure X" sheaths better kept my srk sheath for yrs hoping I'd run back into the knife ...to no avail 😢
Would love Aaron if you did a vs video of coldsteel San Mai vg10 recon Tanto vs Demko Freereign tanto in Aus10 a battle of the tantos please Aaron Master vs student Lynn vs Andrew just a fun video experiment 😊
I have 5 of your 9 and Ihave several other knives under $100 that I use and love. Like you said I prefer a knife that can do multiple things I always have a hatchet/axe or saw nearby so I don’t really need a big machete type knife.
I’ve got the Gerber prodigy , I like the strong arms sheath better , but I can’t tell any difference in the blades , please tell me if I’m wrong on that. But honestly I carry the little cheap buck lite fixed blade a whole lot more, takes and holds a great edge , and I don’t think I paid 30.00 bucks for it .full tang , but I don’t think it’s more than about three inches long . Love the mora though , I use em both camping and fishing , for what I do both are perfect.
Best budget is the cold steel gi tanto. $20 on Amazon. Can beat the heck out of it and it just keeps going. Very basic steel, design and probably not great or ugly in most minds but for the price point it cannot be beat. Sharpens up really easily too.
Depends on what you want that I have to do for camping. I would way rather have the master Hunter than the SRK. For general utility go bag situations SRK is all you need.

Chad Becker vs Virgin cold steel…I’m biased. Great list Aaron.
Swisstech Stählern is a fantastic fixed blade for $40.
you videotiming is perfect as always 😆 now i can just forward the video to my wife and she cant go wrong with any of these for christmas.
Lots of epic deals out there this last week. The only one I picked up in this category was the San Mai SRK at like 77-78 bucks. A lot of Cold Steel folders were also the lowest prices I’ve seen in many years. Got a Recon 1 spear point in the high 70’s range also.
Oh...I lied, I picked up another Benchmade 3V Puukko just under 100 bucks...
Nice recommendation , thanks you very much , Sir ! 👍💪😊
My pleasure!
Great video ! Keep 'em coming !
I love the recon tanto. It looks crazy long though. They should do a compact version like the SRK-C
The Smith&Wesson f2cs is also a great EDC fixed blade less than 50$
CS Master Hunter is a superb skinner
great selection
What have I processed with my buck one nineteen. Deer, Wild boar, Squirrels, And probably a few fish. Just because that's the knife I had. A lot of good buys for under a hundred dollars.
Ive processed with the buck and my SRK
It's incredible how deeply the Mora Garberg bites into the wood.
Where did you get the recon? You list shows Amazon at 99 n BHQ at 119.
Amazon, the price went up already
Yes!!! Love your content, Brother! Keep up the great work!
Appreciate it!
The mora is a better option for dressing deer.i cant stress enough that a large knife isnt good for gutting.
Pendleton Mini Hunter been my go to for a long while
The armiger is on my Christmas list!
Good tip!! Thanks
bladehq has a version of this knife in cpm10v
I am a fan of the Rat 5 and it’s $97 right now on Amazon. But that Joker is on my wishlist 👍
"Please", WHERE can I get the scales for my Jaroz Turok??? They're perfect... FOUND THEM!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU "THANK YOU"!!! Looks like they're a match for the Turok camp!!! Aaron, that's a WIN, WIN!!! Your channel never, and mean NEVER disappoints!!! ❤
Right on! 👍 really appreciate it.
I gifted the Turok (another version I think) to a friend. She’s still very happy with it.
It is a great blade for the money!
Wow Chris, Mrs Outlaw is working on replacing you. She has been really working on her game.
Great review. I think this review with her ahooting this gun really shows both males and females the possibilities with the KDS9.
Chris, hope the tinnitus gets better soon.
Y'all keep them coming.
Just saw your slight panic moment ALMOST showing what I'm thinking is the campero? Had a good laugh on that...now I'll continue to watch
Hahah!! You know it!
I admit...had to get one after the review and I love it. Thanks for all you do. And the encouraging words on a previous comment on the white river review
I went with the esee 4hm for 106 on Black Friday… not disappointed
That’s the esee 4 design I like!!
119 was standard for us in the early '80s as a hunting knife
Hey, the bps leather sheath works well for my Garberg.
Got a Strongarm and Prodigy and BK18, wanted a bigger blade like the Turok. Thanks for the great video, have you looked at Eafengrow or Offgrid knives.
Is that the Lynn Thompson kobun i see on the peg board?
Good eye, video soon
Great video. Can't wait 🤝
I have the lionsteel m4
It has “hard” m390 steel I use a diamond plate tough at first so I had to have resolve to figure out how to put a edge on.
That’s the problem with growing up watching westerns the knife is part of my DNA haha I had Cowboy boots at one time in my life
My hunting partner says you can’t have too many knives.
I remember when the lmf2's were like 65 on Amazon in the 2010s
You asked for a video topic. Here’s one: Discuss the top 10 steels and show a few examples of knives in each steel. Thanks!
I have 5 of your 9 and Ihave several other knives under $100 that I use and love. Like you said I prefer a knife that can do multiple things I always have a hatchet/axe or saw nearby so I don’t really need a big machete type knife.
Please try the Schnitzel Tri. Many outdoor and bushcrafters in Germany love this knife.
Cold Steel SRK & SRK-C, Condor Bushlore, Esee Izula 1 & 2.
I have 4 from your list, likely on your recommendation from individual reviews. I would definitely recommend the SRK in there too.
What type of axe is that on the wall? I want one
The condor Valhalla ax
I’m a blade addict!! There is no cure
I bought SRK 3v for 100$ on ebay, great knife for any tasks.
Recently got an ESSE IZULA S35vn for under $100 and spent another $20 for my choice in micarta scales.
Gerber strongarm currently 25% off at REI. $67.39
Good vidio sir
Love the content !
Cold steel SRK for 40 bucks.. come on..
Great video and great review on your selection.
I think the BPS Adventurer Knife is a pretty good choice.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Cheers
Best budget is the cold steel gi tanto. $20 on Amazon. Can beat the heck out of it and it just keeps going. Very basic steel, design and probably not great or ugly in most minds but for the price point it cannot be beat. Sharpens up really easily too.
Interesting list... 👍🏻
Cold Steel SRK-C
Condor Terrasaur
Ontario TAK-1
QSP Bison
I will have to look at the QSP bison!
Demkos are a 150 buck knife at 80 dollar price.
Is it worth getting thd Master Hunter if you already have the SRK model?
Depends on what you want that I have to do for camping. I would way rather have the master Hunter than the SRK. For general utility go bag situations SRK is all you need.
Great info!
Really want the scales you have on the turok
Who makes the custom scales for the globetrotter turok
Not really a Mora or scandi fan, but the Mora Black for $45 should be given a look.
Cold Steel Leatherneck Tanto Point
