One thing I’ll say from what I see about Dr White is he’s willing to let the text dictate his doctrine and theology and has grace for those that disagree on points that don’t really matter.

Let me see if I've got this straight: God wanted the church of today to have an inerrant text...but he didn't want the church of today to have an inerrant interpretive key for that text. Do I understand correctly so far?

The claim that we know that God inspired the Scriptures (writings) contained within the Bible is a fantastic claim. It only seems right that it be supported by fantastic evidence. In the Gospel According to Mark, it is recorded that believers would be able to do the works (miracles) that Jesus did, and even more. And yet, none can. Oh Christian, do in this age what Christ reportedly did in His...PROVE IT.

There came a time in my life when I felt like I was asked specifically, in my heart and soul, whether I worshipped the Bible or worshipped the Lordship of Jesus of Nazareth. A very good word on inerrancy but as a non-Calvinist, I must ask the question, if man mishandles the scripture isn’t that also by divine decree? I find it odd when a Calvinist rails against the behavior of men while in the back of their mind also believing that God decreed for them to behave that way.
I believe it's tricky because we have free will to disobey (sin) according to Calvinism, but God can overide by His Will basically.
That's just a way I'm trying to summarize it if I guessed really quick without context. I'm new to the understanding of pre destination and Calvinism etc
I honestly believe these talks are all made to make me fall asleep before they ever try to make the new testament into scripture. When did Jesus pick the books of the new testament? Why do you feel more comfortable doing gymnastics to harmonize the apostles instead of just saying they were human and you are going to need to pray and abide in the vine to live a life that pleases your lord and understand what it is to obey him.
I like what he said at the end but it does usually go that ghe more a preacher is stuck in bible study, the less they are doing the work of the kingdom. If you bible study doesn't make you love God more and love other more, its a waste of time.

Dr. White and Calvinist in general hood fast to the tradition of Sola Scriptura and disregard the traditions practiced and in fact developed by the Saints and Church Fathers that created the Scripture long before the Bible was available to allow the 16th Century revelation to even be considered.

Your option to flat use an individuals last name as almost an insult indicates you care more about posturing your position as correct rather than believing he is actually wrong. You do realize on the core tenants of the faith he would agree with you? The issues you part on agreement aren’t primary issues and as such Paul and Peter command us to have grace with one another and if we are in Christ to not let our differences cause division.
I'm hear to listen to my favorite debater. Been listening to White for years and I have held to the doctrine of Calvinism since high school.
Last week I gave up Biblical inerrancy. I had so much cognitive dissonance holding to Reformed Theology and inerrancy. Inerrancy and Biblical harmony forces one to hold to contradicting and opposing truth claims.
We literally don't know exactly everything Jesus said. We have eye-witness testimony to what Jesus said. Jesus never actually wrote down what he said. He entrusted the Apostles to spread the Good News and write it down. Some of what Jesus said may be word for word and some may be paraphrased. The disciples heard Jesus' teaching over and over for about three years. It would be hard to forget and it would be hard to remember every little detail perfectly. We know what it true because we have witness testimony. The testimony doesn't have to be perfect or perfectly agree with other witness testimony. The witnesses just need to agree enough on a topic for us to judge if it's true... and if they get something wrong... who cares! God used fallible people who believe different/wrong things about Him to record scripture.
The Bible is full of contradicting messages, prophets, and opinions. There are numerous contradictions the authors had concerning the nature of God. Does God change? Does he punish children for the sins of their fathers? Was the law a blessing or a curse? Was Israel to proclaim Yahweh to the world or keep him all to themselves? Were they to marry foreign wives or marry amongst themselves? Just go online and go to any atheist/agnostic blog and read all the contradictions and errors in the Bible. The errors go beyond simple scribal errors.
It took me 36 years to see the error of inerrancy. To harmonize scripture I had to believe opposing truth claims throughout scripture. Inerrancy is a presupposition that is applied to the entire canon of scripture. It truly is an extra-Biblical idea. The supporting verses force you to hold to circular reasoning because you have to accept inerrancy as a presupposition prior to applying supporting verses. Inerrancy is blind faith in a system applied to scripture. The truth of the matter is when you read the Bible without forcing it to harmonize with itself or be inerrant it actually is an argument with itself amongst the authors.
No Christian truly believes the Bible is 100% inerrant. There are troubling passages of scripture that there is no way around without jumping through hoops and claiming that "we'll never know this mystery this side of Heaven" or that a particular issue must be "cultural". Who is able to make these judgements? There are hundreds of errors/contradictions in the Bible. The hundreds of errors/contradictions testify that the idea of inerrancy is false. A fallible Bible is the most consistent approach to scripture.
After 36 years of embracing presuppositional apologetics and inerrancy I am now in the process of reconstructing my faith with fallible scripture that contain differing worldviews and beliefs. I actually have more peace reading the Bible now and the huge burden of harmonization has been lifted off my shoulders.

Go read Deuteronomy 20:10-14... Did God really allow Israel to take whatever they wanted from other neighboring towns including the pagan women? I thought God didn't want Israel to take foreign pagan women because they would lead them after other gods as it says in Deuteronomy 7:3-4.
R H Evans, my guess, like most Christians, you tend to camp out in the New Testament most of the time. If you actually studied the Old Testament you would have to have cognitive dissonance to believe that genocide and the taking of women as war trophies is cultural or fitting for that ancient time. So if the Bible says it, that makes it morally good? God's morals are relative and change with the times? Isn't God the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow? If Jesus has the same nature as the Father, would Jesus command genocide or the raping of virgin women? Does Jesus give bad laws/commandments as a judgement like sacrificing our firstborn children? Does Jesus think Jephthah had amazing faith in God to sacrifice his own daughter as a burnt offering (see Judges 11 and Hebrews 11:32)?
The Jesus I believe in didn't and would never command such evil. Jesus does not and never has given bad rules and laws that contradict His good and perfect nature. Men of the Old Testament, in the name of God did such things when it wasn't commanded. They spoke for God when God did not speak. It is all recorded in the Bible for you to read. Please try to make sense of it. I am not an apostate. I love you brother. I will be worshipping Yahweh and Jesus Christ in the new Earth/heaven with you and with all the other saints in the end.

I don't think it necessarily matters what is the "strongest" contradiction but the issue is what do we do with all of them. I don't _believe_ any contradiction applies to God but to the men who wrote it.
If we presuppose God is Perfect and Good and man is not then the human nature of the Bible is flawed. If we presuppose the Bible is inerrant and God's very words, then God contradicts himself and is, by His own definition, both Good and Evil. But if we believe that both God and the Bible are perfect then we hold two opposing and contradictory beliefs.
I don't believe one contradiction is greater than another. God cannot contradict Himself otherwise our faith in Jesus is futile and we should be pitied and mocked.
Despite the very human nature of the Bible married with the divine nature of the Bible, do we believe in Jesus? Can we look through the fog of the human authors and see God for who He really is? Should we be elevating scripture to be equal with God or is scripture simply a imperfect/sufficient vessel to lead us to _relationship_ with Him?
I truly believe if Jesus didn't come to clear up God's true nature, we would be totally screwed to understand rightly God's true nature with just the Old Testament. This is yet another reason why we needed a Savior. I believe Christianity is a matter of faith and that the Bible is sufficient for all matters of personal and communal relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ.

@@craigime The traditions the Church Fathers developed alongside and in many cases prior to the development of the Bible are “refuted” in fact held as heresy by Protestant Tradition. James Whites refers to them derogatorily as the “smells and bells”. If that’s not the answer your looking for try this on. Sola Scriptura regards anything that gets between the reader and the Scripture is apostasy. I find that extraordinary confusing because every Protestant Sermon I’ve ever attended or heard or seen has been a 12 second reading of Scripture followed by a 20 minute or longer explanation from the Pastor about what the “plain text” meant.
He makes much about the New Testament use of Psalm 110:1 and how in Greek it doesn't preserve the tetragrammaton. There is only one New Testament text that does preserve it. The Aramaic Peshitta. Aramaic is very close to the Hebrew language and is quite probably the original language the New Testament was authored in. But of course you can't say this to the "all-knowing" James White. Within 30 seconds, he will ban you from his forum if you even hint this evidence.
According to the head OT prof at WTS when I was there, Jehovah is an entirely possible way to pronounce the tetragrammaton.

@@craigime I got through all the M Div Hebrew courses at WTS, and don't recall either hearing or reading an argument that it is impossible. Mostly what they present is a sort of probabilistic argument involving the pointing of the Masoretic text, the way it was transliterated into Greek, and so forth. Most "scholars" just parrot other scholars when it is not their specialty. So, can you refer me to three scholars who give linguistic arguments showing it is impossible? I promise to look them up.

If Jesus never called his father Y__H and neither did billions of Jews, from ancient times all the way up to the present day . . . why in the world would any Christian especially one as educated as James White think it's ok to say God's sacred and holy name? Christians are expected to be just as respectful of God The Father. The LSB has carried literal translation too far to the point that it completely disregards what is Holy and meant only to be spoken in quiet prayer, but even then saying "in the name of . . ." would be more respectful.

"Inerrancy in the original maniscripts" is not what our Church father believed or what our confessions and catachism state. They state that God preserved his Word and that we can have today without any errors. The "inerrency" of the evangelical leaders of today and their seminary scholars does not actually mean anything. The Bible was once perfect, but now it is lost. We gave up the quest to find the "original" because we would never be able to recognize it.
Which, what, how? We know wise and learned can be unenlightened. Jesus said it with thankfulness. But God is good and has delivered once for all the saints a gospel for which we must contend.
With Paul and the inspiring Holy Spirit we should agree "the righteous by faith shall live". And also, "man will live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God". So that "God will be true, and every man a liar", the sufficiency of the enormous recovery of so large a body of early manuscripts confirming the reliability of the original autographs...is cause to glorify God in awesome humility of His power and will to revelation.

When I first began my walk with Christ, I was perplexed with the MANY different translations. I eventually settled on the NASB. It is the translation that a very well known and respected Pastor that I follow uses at his church, and one that is supposed to be among the “most literal translations”. Sounded good enough for me, so thats what I began using as my “go-to”. I also chose to compliment that with a NIV study Bible and a NKJV study Bible......
Now..... Fast forward a bit. One day I came across someone in my travels, and the topic of Bible translations came up. I quickly discovered that he was a member of the “dreaded” “King James Only” group. I had never come across this group before, and it honestly seemed a bit cultish to me at first. He began to tell me how all the “modern translations” had been corrupted and altered, and that the ONLY pure and true English translation was the King James. My response to him was something along the lines of.....
“That’s ridiculous! There are a lot of legitimate translations. Many of them just have updated language that make it easier for a modern reader to understand”
He went on to explain how even my beloved NASB and NIV (and many others) had been corrupted by unscrupulous translators and so forth. He continued, and said that even the New King James has been altered, and has dangerously changed Gods Truth.
Ok..... So now I’m thinking that this guy must be crazy....... But I thought about it for a while. I then purposed in my heart that I wanted, above all else, the TRUTH. If what he was saying to me was actually true, I wanted to know about it, and it was worth the time it took me to find out! I decided to do some research on this topic. The short answer to what I discovered is that he was, in fact, CORRECT!
There is a lot of VERY compelling evidence that the modern translations are, in part, corrupt and HAVE BEEN altered in a way that absolutely DOES NOT honor God, specifically attacking the Deity of Jesus Christ, His sinless perfection, The Trinity, and many other critical areas of Christian doctrine.
To quote Matthew 13:28 “an enemy hath done this”
Now I’m not going to try to convince you of this. But I do want to DESPERATELY URGE you to diligently take the time to look into this. Don’t brush this off as I almost did! Purpose it in your heart to seek Gods truth in this matter, no matter where it takes you! I promise you, it WILL BE worth it!

These books offer TONS of COMPELLING evidence to the King James Only stance!
I can now say, without reservation, I am unapologetically a member of the King James Only group. After seeing the evidence in favor of that position, I can’t in good conscience go back. I just can’t. At times, I literally felt sick to my stomach as I saw how some passages of the modern translations have been altered, and the implications that those changes have.
In the same way that when I came to know Christ, I felt compelled to tell others about the gospel, I now feel absolutely compelled to share this information with my brothers and sisters in Christ. This is SO IMPORTANT because there is SO MUCH error in people’s theology and it is being perpetuated by CORRUPT translations.
On a side note, I used to think the King James was difficult to read. It absolutely is not! It’s beautiful, and I have never felt closer to Jesus during my Bible time, then I do while reading from The King James!

In my youth, I was forced to investigate the history of the translations of the bible and how we ended up with the multitude of bible versions that we had at that point. That was in the late 70's when I was attending Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio. The devine inspiration, authenticity and authority of the BIBLE was under tremendous attack. I have always studied from the Old king James bible and it was under attack more then any other version. I was being led to believe that we could never know the original, inspired Word because it had been lost. I panicked because that meant that my salvation was in guestion. I found a book by Josh McDowell called " Evidence that demands a verdict". That was my starting point in my search for the truth. It confirmed what I felt about the king James Bible, that it is trustworthy and an accurate translation of the Inspired word of God. Later I was introduced to chick tracks by Jack Chick. I loved to read them, I couldn't get enough of them. Jack had a series of giant chick comics called the Crusaders. At least 3 of them, at that time, focused on the history of the bible translations and the authenticity of the manuscripts that they were translated from. They confirmed what I had learned from Josh McDowell's books.
One Chick Comic was called
"The Angel of Light" there were 2 other Comics that also defended the bible but I can't remember their titles. They were real eye openers. Jack chick also had books that showed you the differences between the King James and all the other versions. He showed how entire passages had been removed from some versions or words were altered or removed within a single verse of scripture. If you read James 2 in its context, you’ll see James is having a discussion not about how one is saved but how one can justify his claim as a Christian. James’s argument is that a faith that produces works is a living faith and that can justify one’s claim to be a believer. He is not saving faith plus works equals salvation.
Here’s the thing: what are you trusting in for your salvation? Is it baptism? Good works? Your church? Your discipler? None of those things will save you and if you are trusting in them in addition to Christ or instead of Christ, you are lost and on your way to hell.
The biblical gospel of is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. A person is saved by Jesus through His death for your sins and His resurrection. (Vs. 3-4). Furthermore, Jesus must be received through faith (v. 2). The Bible says we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). After we are saved, then we do works (v.10).

Ask someone today if they are saved and
you will most likely hear responses like these:
“I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I
have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been
baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good
and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually
knows the gospel that saves them. These useless phrases don’t describe a thing about what
the gospel is and has left a devastating effect
of people not knowing what it is that they are
saved from nor how they are saved; which
leaves a more serious effect of people questioning their salvation.
Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salvation that is in Christ with vague church
sounding phrases that do not communicate
anything. But rather present God’s word with
clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel:

Sin was passed upon all men by one man
Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin
(Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of
condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of
this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good
works one might do we are still found sinners
in the sight of our Creator God. And all unrighteousness and those who follow get indignation and wrath. We cannot be found
righteous for by God’s law we are found sinners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even
one law we are found guilty.
It is for this reason of not being able to
create our own righteousness and being born
in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus
3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in
the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross
2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath
and judgement that was intended for us sinners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial,
and resurrection on our behalf that we are
able to have peace with God and forgiveness
of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good
news is unto all but only those that believe in
it are made righteous in Christ (Romans
3:22).
It is then after we have heard this good
news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we are now part of Christ’s body the
church (Eph 1:13)
There is nothing that we need to do, no
good works that are required, and no bad
works that can separate us from our new position in Christ (Romans 8:35-39).
Faith and belief in this information from
God’s word is the gospel.
The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your
heart. The gospel is not making him lord of
your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not
being baptized with water.
So next time someone asks you if you are
saved. Give them the clear assured answer
