    I agree, Genesis was the king of sports games during this era!

    Load times on the SEGA CD version aren't that bad. I'm actually pretty impressed. Game loads up about the same as the Genesis other than loading the audio but wasn't that bad.

    Each version has it's own charm.
    Sega CD is hardest to find, and setup , but the computer at least puts up more of a fight, and it's harder to run up the score.
    SNES is more colorful and has better sound effects, and ( for better or worse ) easier checking, but the goalie control is weaker, they don't leave realistic rebounds, it's too easy to score, the snes d-pad makes skating , passing, and aiming shots harder.
    I've put in thousands of hours on each, but Genesis is overall the best version.
    If any hardcore fans are ever near Anoka, Minnesota, I'd be happy to host.
    I've got SNES and Genesis each on a 75" newer TV with HDMI cables for zero lag, and on a square "36 Sony for that retro feel.

    Why do you rate how well the games work analog sticks? These games were not meant to be played with analog sticks.

    • @narch_tv7374
      @narch_tv7374  6 лет назад

      I reviewed it using a PS4 controller in an emulator which is probably what most people except purists might use and its to note that analog sticks do work well about as well as the d-pad. Sorry that your only complaint was something that didn't make or change the outcome. But anyway hope you enjoyed regardless

    1. Turn on all penalties, offsides and line changes. Turning it off is what 5 year olds do.
    2. Sega CD by far is the best version.
    2. SNES
    3. sega.
    If you don’t play the game the way it was designed with everything on you don’t know the difference between them.

    Down voting this vid, I think the SNES version is top tier. Those sound effects are on point. Love the "ohhhhh" when you take a good shot on goal from the fans
    Also the puck sounds are good too.
    Graphics aren't too good but the music soundtrack at the menu and intermission is iconic

  • @messngretz
    @messngretz 5 лет назад +11

    The graphics on the SNES version of NHL '94 didn't look the same as the Genesis version...the SNES version always reminded me of a lower budget "knockoff" version of a Genesis hockey game. The Genesis was the KING for sports games, hands down.

      NARCH_TV for it's time the Sega CD version was a revolution in gaming... Digital sound music and full motion video, something cartridge didn't have back then...I remember playing this the day it came out on Sega CD, six hours later we stopped.... Keep in mind the load on CD back then was 1-2x speeds max....16 bit sounds via CD... The list goes on

      Yeah the weight bug and the better controls for the manual goalie, are great snes strenghts. The game is just nore fluid on sega mega drive tho. Also one can argue the weight bug is relevant to correct characterization of check capabilities of 93 nhl roster but it does not make the game objectively worse. I personally prefer sega but completely understand snes apologists on this one. Snes version rocks too. Hope you ok :)

    I would have done a different scoring system: Tournament-style.
    Genesis VS SNES... And the winner would take on SegaCD.
    That way, you don't have to use an arbitrary point system...
    ...they either win, lose, or tie... And if it's a tie...
    ...then you can start nit-picking the details in order to determine a winner.

      In my opinion, the Sega CD Version is not much better when you consider using a 32 bit system. The Intro is better and of course the orgel sound is unique. However I like the SNES interaction with the crowd. At the end the graphical differences are marginal. All europe players were fooled with the slower PAL 50HZ Version! Besides I played with Detroit Red Wings and Sergej Fedorov the former boy friend of Anna Kournikova.

  • @ezehogan

    SNES version looks like it just chugs along, barely capable of keeping up with the action on screen. I like some of the animations but the SNES processor really struggles with multiple sprite games with a lot of on screen movement. The sound is also quite muffled.

I wasted equal hours of my life playing both versions with friends. the emulated version of genesis with weight bug fixed and goalie control is the way to go now. Add current rosters and it lives in forever.

    SNES more intricate graphics, far greater effects & music (Sega sounds tinny sci-fi), & controls - the SNES player design allows for tighter maneuverability instead of Sega's 1993 models. Just like SFII, I simply cannot play on Genesis cuz headache.

      NARCH_TV SNES has multiple goal celebrations, hats on the ice for home team hat tricks, crowd does arm motions to go with JAWS theme in San Jose, more organ music, easier to body check, better one-timers, jersey design is closer to real life counterparts of the day, goalies don’t look like goblins. SEGA has stats. That’s about it.

    • @rootykazooty351
      @rootykazooty351 6 лет назад +11

      @tomlott. The Mega Drive game plays a lot better. That's why it's the best version. It's smoother and faster. The SNES is jerky. When it comes to sports games it just cannot compete. It always seems to struggle with fast action when there's a lot happening on screen. The Mega Drive really benefits from having a CPU that's more than twice as fast.
