    Great job on the install. I've had the 8500W's installed for a little over 5 years now and no regrets. I know this is an old video, if you haven't already look into Greenhinges and it will quiet up the hinges and make the door seal nicely against the door seals and quiet the hinges down significantly.

      Yeah, with the change over to nylon rollers and this style of opener, my door makes 95% less noise than it used to. One of the many reasons I went with this particular style of opener. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

      RAD GARAGE well yours is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than mine. 😂I have to keep all of my lawn care and gardening stuff in my garage as per our HOA so I’m stuck in that regard. For that reason I did not get the lift which would have taken up too much space. I hope to get a quick jack system some day.

      HOA's seem quite powerful down there. Up here, there are no basically no restrictions in our neighborhoods. We have these things called "restricted covenants", but there is no authority to enforce them. It's a good (and bad) thing.

    That video was very cool Rick. I really enjoyed how you put that together. Your "one in a million" garage just leaped forward in a big way. I really like the wide open space in the ceiling where the old center mounted door opener was hung. My vote is keep that nice and clean an open and white. The side-mounted LiftMaster is an incredible machine. That value of your garage continues to escalate and I really enjoyed watching this "how to" video. You are one lucky man to have such a cool brother in law and his idea for the can lights was spot on. Once again, great job my friend!....(Mike in Ohio)

      Tim Roscoe It’s not as heavy as it looked. It’s just awkward to carry up the ladder when you’re in a corner. I’m very happy with how it all cleaned up. A viewer is coming by to secure/strap the exposed bx cables to the wall in a crisp and clean way. He’s a commercial electrician.

    As for the extension cord reel location, I’ve resorted to a wall mounted 3 outlet power reel (princess auto) near the front of my garage and I use detail guardz in front of the tires to prevent the cord from getting caught. I’m able to get around the whole car with ease. It’s also handy for other projects when there isn’t a car . The 3 outlets on it work well. Another option is OG style ceiling mounted corner of the car setup if you still want overhead.

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  4 года назад +1

      A big industrial style fan would look cool in there, but to be completely honest the garage never gets hot enough to justify one. I'm lucky that way. The garage faces due North and receives a sliver of direct sunlight in the evening just prior to sunset. Also, we have crappy weather pretty much year-round!

  • @n0nyabznss
    @n0nyabznss 2 года назад +1

    Great video! I have some questions:
    1. Did you tap into the outlet in the ceiling by using a junction box or splitter to run additional outlets to the garage opener and the extra quad outlet box near the floor?
    2. Can you reuse the wiring for some of the devices like the keypad panel outside and the old opener panel to connect the new devices?
    3. Like most houses, my garage only has a couple of outlets (one on the ceiling and one on the back wall of the garage, SMH). Is it possible to wire a 12 gauge or lower extension cord from the ceiling to the area where the new opener would be to give it electricity? I've read it isn't recommended but, that outlet's purpose was only to power the garage door opener and nothing else, so I'm trying to figure out if that would be acceptable or not. I also had someone a while back finish my garage door walls because it was only left with tape which was deteriorating due to age and that'll make the job a bit more tedious to run new wiring and add more outlets in the garage.
    4. Lastly (and sorry for all the questions), have you had issues with the LED lights in the garage interfering with the garage opener? Does this thing work with factory installed homelink devices in cars? What about the phone app? is it hard to configure"?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  2 года назад

      Hey there. Thanks for the questions about the garage updates I made a few years ago. My memory is a bit foggy as far as the specific details but I'll do my best to answer your questions.
      1. Yes, we tapped the outlet that was on the ceiling to run the the lights and wall outlet. It was a bit tricky snaking the BX through the tight attic space as the ceiling joists were not cooperating.
      2. The electrician did not run new wiring to the exterior keypad panel. The keypad remained the same after the swap to the new opener.
      3. This one is a bit out of my league. My gut tells me running an extension cord to the opener is not ideal, but I am not sure. You'd be amazed how a good electrician can find ways to bury wires behind walls without having to create a lot of cuts. The trick is finding one in your area that is easy to work with. This was my brother-in-law so he was very patient with me and all my weird OCD requests.
      4. I have no issues with the LED lights interfering wit the garage opener. I have my Audi's homelink set up to the new opener. It is just as straightforward as any other door opener. You get a couple of remote openers and you just use that to configure your homelink. Easy peasy. The phone app is super easy to configure and navigate. It is awesome having the piece of mind of knowing when your door is open or closed wherever you are in the world. I highly recommend.

    We need a new door and definitely looking at this to clean up the garage. Love the new lighting as well. Trying to figure out what route I want to go for lighting. I like the hexagon look a lot

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  3 года назад

      This side mount opener is honestly one of the Top 3 upgrades I have made in the garage. It is so quiet and clean looking and just adds a really professional "tone" to the space. Lighting was a leap of faith and I'm not sure I would have even done the upgrades had it not been for the generosity of LevKom. I like the Hexagon lights too, but my garage isn't always used for detailing so I wondered if it was overkill. Still, it's a cool look and those that go that route seem to like it. Good luck with all your decisions.

      It's been awesome in many aspects. The only issue is a "popping" sound I get once in a while when the door is being closed. I need to get it checked out but I've been too distracted by life's other plans. Will update when I find out what is causing it. The way it opens the garage is worth the price alone, though. For the average garage, this is overkill. I haven't recommended it to any of my friends that just use their garage to store their cars. If you are really into your garage then I would definitely suggest forking out the extra cash for the side mount. Just not having all that componentry crowding up your ceiling space is worth it. Then, there's the quiet factor. I say go for it!

      Yeah, these side-mount openers are becoming more and more popular with people "in the know". I think the overhead opener with the chain or belt drive will remain the most popular for a while. It is doing a great job so far.
      My garage floor is a system called "Swisstrax" and it is basically a floating tile floor that allows for the free flow of water under the floor. This is great for the wet winters and some detailing I do in the space. You can check out lots of my other videos about the floor if you have the time.

      costco sells a nice shop light for a garage. I think the brand is mona or something like that. Not the feit. They are 46" long 4000k LED I believe. super easy to install and you can daisy chain up to 6 together. What I love about them is they dont need a switch. THey come with a remote but are motion sensing. you can adjust how long they stay on after sensing motion, motion sensitivity etc. I just leave the switch on 24/7 and let them turn on and off themselves when anyone goes in and out of the garage. They have worked flawlessly thus far. I have 7 in my 2 car garage and its nice and bright in there now.

Or if you have anyone with a siding brake they should be able to bend up some type of cover out of coil stock and it shouldn't be to expensive. A square box would look to bulky, I think. Something multisided like half of a octagon would look less bulky and the bends would help add some rigidity.
