You are a talent JJ and I always look to your lessons if I want to get all the subtle nuances of a song that others so often miss in their videos. The world of music would be a much poorer place without your utube presence! Thank you.

Wanted to write this since quite a while. I'm 23 years old from Argentina, subscriber since the old pt channel. Mainly came here in search for stones songs but found plenty more. I was starting to learn to play guitar and suddenly entering here, knowing guitar terminology in english, new songs and many songs from my favorites bands. I learn really how to play guitar thanks to you and actually how to learn a song by myself. But most importantly, your way to teach is different from anyone else, as you explain perfectly in the ya yas sympathy sólo vídeo. I'm speechless, I own everything I know on guitar to you. Thanks, hope you can read this

This is a great strumming song. Also a great song if you are trying to learn to sing and play at the same time which I am trying to do after 40+ years of playing guitar. Thanks for sharing.

Very true JJ....Dynamics' on the acoustic guitar truly make all the difference, and there so much to it, and very little taught about it..Just the sound you can get by strumming closer to the bridge( which i tend to do on minor chords) or conversely, the other side of the sound hole, gives a very major dynamic, incorporating loud strumming to softly plucking or appegiating chords..Dynamics can truly turn a simply progression into a vibration that is much more appreciated by the listener...The player being the first and foremost person to please..cheers

I remember having this acoustic version on a 45 single... back in t day. It was a B side. I prefer it to the original album version. Thanks JJ for another fantastic tune and lesson 👍🏻🎸

Hey man! Love the lesson! Great alternative way to play this. Super cool. I learned something new. When I play this song, I used a Capo on the 4th Fret on the Electric. Thank you for posting this. Stay safe out there.

Nicely done! When performing this solo acoustic I typically opt for the simpler version Mellencamp played in a radio interview a few years back. See it in RUclips under 'John Mellencamp Sings Small Town Live in Studio'. Played sans capo in G.

A great lesson. I've listened to many strummers who just wear out my ears with too-constant strumming. Dynamics is just not volume either...you can focus on the the dynamics between strumming the lower 4 and the top 4 strings.

Great work James . I watched your pre playoff question and answer, by the way if the refs Had called holding your Bill's would have had a chance. My Seahawks went down to LA cover two and hold haha . Whitehouse, Ali Frampton, impressive!!! The only star I know is a friend and he hails from my small town Victoria BC Canada 🇨🇦 who was named to the all world 20th century rugby team. I played with him Gareth Reese. I am going to learn this song as it sounds great as a solo about my speed.

May I ask what pick you are using? Dunlop (trying to id by color)maybe? Indeed the vocals are a bonus as well. Singing and playing together = like walking and chewing gum for us mortals? Appreciate the lesson!

@@jamesjames9275 If that's a Clapton pick it's an Ernie Ball Heavy which is slightly thicker than a fender heavy. I have several from different years compliments of his Guitar tech Dan Dierney.
