  • DIY Hunting Saddle. In this video, I share with you how I made a DIY hunting saddle using a tree climbing harness, some rock climbing rope, and some carabiners.
    The harness used is this one - amzn.to/2PKzmyu
    The Sit Drag can be found using this link - amzn.to/2li6UoG

    For anyone who is considering something like this. There are some important details to consider - especially the rope you use and its rating. This is a rock climbing rope, which is designed to not stretch and to hold people's weight while hanging or repelling with it. Even this kind of rope loses strength when you tie a knot. I weigh 180 pounds with my clothes on and the rope I used is rated around 1500 to 2000 pounds. Even if it lost 40% strength through tieing a knot, it still would be rated to hold around 900 to 1200 pounds. These are the largest suggested decreases in strength. The rope may have only lost a fraction of 40% strength, and I felt very safe. However, if you think of trying something like this, you should make sure you not only "feel" safe, but will be safe. You need the right rated rope, and I will not advise you on the exact rope to buy. You should consult a rock climbing expert on ropes and uses. Be safe and God bless.

    Great video Sean, thank you. I m not fully convinced about the saddle. It seems to be much more difficult to control movements rather than seating in a regular hang on tree-stand. I don’t know i need to try one to see how it goes. Thanks again bud

    did you ever get your answer in regards to the 1 Samuel - i believe it’s more of the three arrows being shot at a “target” as archers typically do. if not this i could only say it’s after the “deer” is hit it takes off and generally have to go beyond that initial blood splatter. nonetheless great watch. blessings

    Change the loop on your lineman rope to a figure 8 on a bite, it’s a much stronger and safer knot than that overhand loop. If you ever wanna look into knots that are approved for life safety, get the CMC field guide app for reference

    Just an fyi you want that knot on your prussic to be away from your carabineer, you want the rope to bear the weight not your knot. I don't know the exact stats but you compromise the load weight the way you have it set up. Just work the knot away from the Apex of the bite and you will be fine.

    It probably isn't a real big deal since you're backed up into your RCH however you really shouldn't load your knot on your prusik. I couldn't get a good look at it but a double fisherman's knot is recommended.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 лет назад

      I don't think it will ever be an issue. I weigh 180 with all my gear on, and the ropes are rated for well over a 1,000 pounds. If any of them should start to look frayed I would just stop using them long before there could be an issue. If I was on rocky cliffs rock climbing with the higher potential of fraying them on sharp rocks, that would be a different story as far as some of that goes, but I am hanging stationary on the side of a tree. Regardless, now that I have the Tethrd Saddle that was sent to me I won't be using this rig.

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures - I like the concept but it seems you would be skylined and much more visible as opposed to a tree stand. In a stand you’re standing straight up against a tree which essentially hides your outline, but hanging out off the tree seems you would be spotted much easier. Do you find that a problem at all?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 лет назад

      @@claymac7895 You can rotate around the tree a little to keep the tree between you and the deer, which would help a little. It could leave you a little exposed though if there are several deer at different areas around the tree. You'd just need to be high enough I guess.
