I wish I'd been recording the attempted flight! I was intending to start the recording when I got the plane into position, but uh...well...I never got the plane into position...
The bicycle was at the other end of the quonset huts, second or third from the terminal end. The respirator is worth ~$1000 at the traders. Don’t forget to put your pistol and knife on your hot-bar. (Edit: never mind) The improvised guns use to require a pipe. That made sense, but now I guess you just need logs and sticks. VERY realistic. I’m very curious what you think of the quests. They seem to be procedurally generated, at least the first few level 1 quest I’ve done are. First quest required I find 6 bobby pins, later a quest to find 10 bobby pins. Not sure I like that (I don’t like that). Another issue I have is that the quest descriptions don’t tell you how many items you need to find until AFTER you accept it. For example, I accepted a quest to find “a box of 22 ammo” which I had on me, but after accepting it I needed to find 3 boxes. If it had told me that upfront I wouldn’t have accepted it at that time. Hopefully the higher level quests will be better. The description of the improvised rail said it’s for riffles that CAN mount scope/sights. The Improvised rife isn’t capable of mounting them, ergo the rail doesn’t work. Sorry 😭. When you think about it, putting a scope on an improvised, smoothbore gun (made of twigs and logs) should be pointless. The accuracy of the gun should be horrible, with its usefulness only good at near point blank range. The “facility” has a garage and fair amount of military containers and is called The Train Yard. It has at least 1 vehicle spawn point too. It’s where I would go next.
I found a bike at the gas station, so no biggie on missing the one at the airfield. Thank you for letting me know where it was, though. I often don't think about the value of loot since I avoid the traders most of the time. I suppose there's no need for me to avoid them. I just don't like having the option of buying whatever I need in a survival game. Takes away from the "survival" aspect if you can just go to the SCUM version of Walmart and they have pretty much everything in one place. I remember the improvised guns requiring a pipe. That was the tricky part in building them. I guess not enough people built them because of that, so rather than make pipes easier to find, the devs decided to remove the pipe from the recipe. I guess the barrel is now made of wood laced with pixie dust and imagination to somehow turn it into a metal pipe... I have yet to try any of the quests. I intend to get into them as soon as we find some transportation. Once I have a few under my belt, I'll get back to you with my verdict. I swear I remember (very recently) having the improvised scope mounted on the improvised rifle over on the multiplayer server, but perhaps it was a different rifle...Either way, you're absolutely right that the accuracy should be absolute garbage. I'm still not sure how it's able to chamber all those different rounds. There's a BIG difference in diameter between a 5.56x45mm and a 12 gauge shotshell. They do make adapters to go in single-shot shotguns to allow for other cartridges to be fired, but the accuracy is still poor and this improvised rifle doesn't have those. It's more of a blunderbuss than a rifle, realistically. Should be "accurate" to maybe 10 feet, assuming the barrel doesn't blow up from a bullet not being properly aligned with the bore... I always forget about that place. The only trainyard I ever remember is on the South Island. Perhaps I will head there next. Thank you!
@ I write my comments while watching the video. This means sometimes the point is moot by the end of the video. I could just go back and delete that portion of the comment, but then you wouldn’t be as impressed with my knowledge and attention to detail. Soooo sometimes I just put “Never mind” after that comment to let you know I thought of it but it doesn’t matter anymore. Like when I told you to put your gun and knife back into your hot bar, you discovered your oversight, the hard way, at the gas station. I left that in just to rub it in a bit, no no, I mean to let you know I was worried about your safety and wellbeing, yea, that’s it. 😎🤣
Instead of upping the zombie damage, just run without armor. And you were thinking of giving them more health, just use the bow and arrow. Hit and run techniques instead of Rambo style run and gun. No armor and only a bow & arrows and perhaps a knife would make for a stripped down playthru.
That's about how I did the first several seasons of SCUM. I primarily used a bow, kept a pistol as a backup in case of emergencies, and virtually never used a long gun. It's fun, and practical, but it also takes away from a lot of the looting. There's no real reason to loot any military areas if you're not using guns, unless you're just collecting loot to sell. But even then, what do you need to buy? Arrows are cheap, reusable, and findable at the castle (or craftable), and you're not trying to buy ammo or weapons, so there's not a whole lot you need from the traders. I may try it again, though, and focus that season more on base building and gathering stuff specifically for the base. Could still use the traders for seeds, generators, refrigerators, etc, so looting vaulable POIs would still have some purpose. But for this season, I really want to lean more into the firearms, specifically because I haven't done it much yet. One of my primary goals for this season is to find the new SCAR-L and test it out. But perhaps next season we can try a bow-only run. Maybe allow for a pistol with a single magazine or a revolver, though, for emergencies. As for the armor, I would love to not use armor, which is why I avoid helmets and the heavy armor. If I could just have a cargo vest that had as much inventory space as the armors, I would absolutely go with that. But I suppose if we're not going to need to carry ammo and magazines, we don't need as much inventory space anyway...We'll see! Either way, thank you for the suggestion!
I never got to use it. I started playing towards the end of 0.9. But they're supposed to be brining the tractor back soon. I'd love to have one just to keep at base for moving building materials around.
@FlailyMcFlailerson turn left out the police station and its about 3 miles down the road . There's also one directly north of the first one follow the railroad tracks good luck . Normally packed full of zambies.
There should be a possibility of overdosing on painkillers/vitamins in this game. For example 12 regular size paracetamol tablets is fatal. Overdose of iron gives you the shits and in severe cases liver failure and ☠. Too much calcium causes vomiting and irregular/rapid heartbeat.
I agree completely! Given how in-depth the metabolism system is in SCUM, it would make perfect sense to take all of that stuff into consideration. That's what I dislike with most survival games. There's no risk of having too much of anything, aside from maybe you eat too much and throw up. But with SCUM, you have to balance vitamins and minerals. I hope they add consequences for NOT keeping things balanced, especially overdoing it on certain things.
I've seen people do crazy stuff with the planes! We've got one guy on our server (Hunter, I'm talking about you!) who can fly pretty darn well. Meanwhile, I can't even take off properly!!!
@@chadwright7614 I generally have no problem taking off or straight and level flight with only gentle turns. Landing is no problem either… surviving the landing, not so much. 🛬💥
If at first you die in a fiery plane crash..........maybe don't fly a plane again for awhile! 😂 I think I'll probably try practicing with all damage turned off so even when I crash, it won't be a fiery ball of instant death. Maybe eventually I'll get better at it.
Oh yeah! A video from your plane crash you talked about on Discord.

That plows fancy . Might have to figure out some wheels for it .
I wish they'd add a plow for the Rager!

Landing is easy! Just have a parachute and jump out when you're over your landing zone. The plane will land itself!
Your only crime is not recording the crash!
Agreed! I had intended to start recording as soon as I got the plane into position on the runway. Sadly, that never happened...
