You absolutely can! The best way to do this is with a one-time circuit using a dart trap, a teal pressure plate, and sand. Past about 750,000mph, you traverse the entire height of a large world in one gametick (1/60th of a second). And it's possible to accelerate past that... I honestly don't know what (if anything) might happen in such scenarios.
@@EthyrielY would it be possible to set up teleporters like with the water + floatie trick to send you to the top of the world, mostly to stall to use the jousting lance?
if your worried about projectiles, what you can do is shoot 1000 flares into a box to reach the projectile cap and make it so that bosses cant spawn new ones
other game's glitches: if we move here we can clip through the wall, and if we put this here and press 2 buttons kinda fast we duplicate the item terraria: * creates a parallel universe with malicious intent *
the lance speed can be achived in another way, with a floatie you can float on water but if your in water then put on the floatie you will accelerate to get to the top of the water, so if you build a atleast 4 block wide tunnel that goes up with water inside and put a platform on the back part and jump in you will achive inf speed so with lance you can insta kill mostly anything
if you augment this with an array of teleporters, you can reach a speed of 1 map height per frame. this was the method used by mappy to kill dungeon guardian in 1 tick, and even double back scale the dmg numbers in terraria (your hitting so hard it dealt 15k dmg more than the full 64bit integer cap x2)
It is! This is the new, one-instance method which I have been meaning to make a dedicated guide about for awhile. It's faster, more consistent, and basically better in every single way lol edit: You could also use this same setup to obtain any item the other Transmutation setups could. In this instance we're just using it to set-up the chest glitch.

Funny, me and a friend have that exact same glitch with a crystal chest, and it's existed before the transmutation glitch existed. I could probably send the world file if you contacted me, if you're interested that is, although I'm unsure about if the transfer would break the chest. Edit: I've learned a bit more and it was just a coincidence that it's a crystal chest because it's the other one like it I am big dumb
The last time I’ve seen anything about insane speed in Terraria was in a mappygaming video where he reached 756k mph, now I wonder if he’ll find some insane way reach higher speeds with this glitch
I think that the top speed is limited by how long you can keep your cursor over the chest, but something else in the game might break first. I reached about 5,400,000 mph by leaving it overnight, which is a bit under 1% the speed of light.
i've seen a similar contraption but it also used a door and you could get any item in the game so long as you can manipulate the item IDs into changing to desired ones. Yes, even the Zenith
Indeed! That's Transmutation for you. I'm hoping to make more videos on it since my previous explanations are a bit out of date at this point, with the new tech that's been discovered.
Dude this video freaking rocks. I've been playing this game for nearly a decade and it never ceases to amaze me, the weird and beautiful things there are to be found. I don't even know where I would begin in trying to achieve something like this in Terraria, but you big brained it so hard. Kudos =)
The cool thing about terraria is that you don’t NEED a glitch like this to beat the game, if you are having so much trouble you can literally go to another server and get whatever you want. I was just thinking about it since I saw that and though “oh I gotta get back into playing to beat some hard bosses” But nah. Also I gotta get back into terraria. It’s so good.
I love Terraria for its nuanced progression- it's why I have so many hours in the game. I also just so happen to have a knack for breaking games. Stuff like this is the consequence of that lol
Aargh, I'm annoyed at myself that I missed that, given that I do alot with kinematics and therefore work with metric units regularly lol Thanks for pointing it out^^!
Mappy's video was an inspiration for this whole search for infinite speed, actually! (And for my glitch pursuits as a whole.) I wanted to see if there was an easier / more compact way to achieve high DPS via lances, and this was the result!
Hey, Ethy. Video idea: This isn't exactly a glitch suggestion, but it IS related to using bees to gain infinite speed. In Calamity, Auric ore can bounce players and NPC that aren't wearing Auric Tesla Armor. And after some testing, I discovered that the uncapped MPH on the bee mount, works for this property as well. Meaning, if one were to set up a box of Auric ore, and hop on the bee mount, (or if your using DragonLens, cursor teleporting into a mass of Auric,) it sends the player flying at Mach speed, and if they're trapped, it should *theoretically* allow for infinite speed generation. I've done some testing, and found some pretty interesting results. Go check it out for yourself!
well you see, it is a known fact that bees move quicker than the human eye, so fast to the point where they seem to just stand still. the devs wanted to show this and add this to stay true to the very real reality that i am talking about
I think in theory if you were to accelerate like that for roughly 211.3 days your character's speed would surpass the 32 bit integer limit of 2,147,483,647 and overflow to -2,147,483,648 mph and I wonder what having negative speed would look like
I almost want to try modding the game to achieve that sooner... Or, better yet, just a way to accelerate _even faster_. Since, if I find a way to get a jerk (An actual term, describing an acceleration of my an acceleration)... well, then speed would grow exponentially. Far-fetched, but you honestly never know.
"So you have a box, 'kay. If you take a cat statue, create a parallel universe, saw-off the bottom part of the statue, and place that above the box- you get a glitchy box. Now, if you touch the glitchy box, you'll begin accelerating. But you won't move away from the box, even though you're gaining speed. You'll accelerate at 5.3G's, sitting still, all while unable to move an inch otherwise. Except to stop touching the box. But, by the time you realize what's going on, you're probably already going several times the speed of sound, so I hope you like your new life. Hitting the ground that quickly probably wouldn't end well."
Bro, this game is 12 years old, and we're just beginning to break it apart. I absolutely love terraria, the community, and I love seeing terraria destroyed in such ingenious ways
There's another glitch where you can grapple to a platform and then blockswap it to a solid block, which prevents enemies from aiming at you with projectiles.
How does the glitched golden chest interact with summons? I remember seeing a video that used a mod/tool to change which projectiles are fired by which weapons, showing that some summons (I think finch staff?) generate projectiles, and if the projectile-Id for them is changed, funny things happen. If a glitch was found that could generate projectiles including some form of ID switch (similar to how transmutation switches item-Ids), that might be able to generate lance-projectiles while in the glitched state.
closest thing we have right now would be with the fireworks i think, since the projectile they spawn can be changed to other fireworks, and probably other things too also if the projectiles gave you the buff for the summon, then that buff would disappear as well as the summons i'd assume
There is actually a glitch which allows for spawning projectiles (About 4/5ths of all of them in the game are spawnable), though as far as I know weapons aren't projectiles in that list. As for interactions with summons, all summons vanish the moment you mouse over the chest, though sentries still work as intended. It's weird what does and doesn't work while in the glitched state.
i have known for quite a while (i think since master mode) playing around with things like etherian turret stacking it is not hard to hit the projectile cap of 1000 i think it was pets, light pets, summons are all projectile ranged/magic weapons all counted as projectiles for the sprite in hand but melee weapons did not iirc having projectile cap filled or near filled does fun things to the pillar events (especially vortex) lots of things break when you hit either the npc spawn cap of 200 or projectile cap of 1000 also hitting the buff/debuff cap is somewhat annoying if that happens less fun that the projectile and npc caps
That glitch is so damn specific, I want to know what tf was the person who discovered this thinking/doing. Like, why Sandstone block? Why Bass statue? Why that specific shape setup?
That setup wasn't the first one made, but what I think most likely happened is some thought along the lines of 'if bast statue turning on and off is just shifting the block ids, then could you use a cut off bast statue and activate/deactivate it to change the block ids of where the rest of the bast statue would normally be?'. So they used t-edit or something to cheat it in, and saw that it worked. Then they found out a way to get it without cheating by making a desynced block setup(already known), and using it on bast statue in a way that gets a floating bast statue, and then using the pong glitch(the sandstone and sand block thing, previously set up with with two desert fossil and one sandstone) on the bottom left of it to get rid of everything but the head. Then they figured out that doors opening and closing could increment block ids without placing and breaking every time needed. And the torch was to see weather it was on or off without having to save and quit to make it visible. And the shape and where the switch is placed is like that for being easy and convenient.
For the first part, I have no idea how I discovered the Sandstone / sand glitch (aka the "Prong Glitch"). I had extra time during a multiplayer run and... somehow stumbled upon that glitch. (Actually, I have a slight theory, but it's still a miracle I found that shape.) For the second part, there was logic behind it. The Bast Statue is one of about 2-dozen objects in the game suceptible to the first glitch (Prong Glitch), but with some spritesheet analysis I noticed that its sprites are situated such that the "Off" state of the Bast Statue is stored to the right of the "On" state, toggled via wire. Therefore, by using the Prong Glitch to remove the bottom part of the Bast Statue, we could trick the game into moving non-Bast objects to the left and right on their own spritesheets. It was a Eureka moment I am still very proud of to this day.
7:05 just to clarify; you didn't really create a "parallel universe". instead, what you see is not what the server sees because it is not visible on your *client,* but it's in the server - which stores everything that actually exists. in multiplayer, each player has their own client, and each player's client interacts with the world via remotes - if one client breaks a block with a pickaxe, a remote fires from that client to the server to remove that block and drop it on the ground. so if you remove a tile from another player's client, that tile will not exist to them, but it will still exist to the server and all other clients. this is why this glitch does not work in singleplayer - because the player is a full member of the server. so essentially, the "parallel universe" you described is actually just the difference between your client and the server.
Interesting! That fits in with alot of what I've observed with two/three player de-syncs, while researching Transmutation. The concept of "parallel universes" has wound up being a fairly useful construct for explaining de-sync tech (And, frankly, for my own understanding of some of the more esoteric glitches.) Even if what's going on in actuality it has more to do with what actions clients send to the server, are sent to other clients, or are some mixture of the two. It'll be more apparent for the next glitch that I plan to show but one of the glitch techniques, MCGO (Multiplayer Campfire Glitch Offsetting) causes data from the server to become exclusively on the side of one client- which, could be framed in the contruct of "moving to that client's parallel universe". Again, it's not actually what's happening- Red did not add Terraria 2, the multiverse update- but I think it's a worthwhile analogy to carry through to future videos. Thanks again for the informative comment! I'm hoping to do a proper deep-dive into the technical aspects of server/client desync at some point in the future, once I get through the upload backlog a bit more.
I was playing aruound in terraria and if you got up to the space and then equip a mount and then desequip you would acellarate really quickly, naturally I placed a portal below and another on a slope and I flew for 100s of blocks, 100% recommend. This video remind me of that altough I dont think you accelarate that fast doing this
Hopping off the mount seems to instantly remove all of your velocity back to terminal falling speed (So either 51mph or 179mph, regardless of previous speed), but I'm still trying to find a work-around to this.

@@EthyrielY would it be possible to set up teleporters like with the water + floatie trick to send you to the top of the world, mostly to stall to use the jousting lance?

terraria: * creates a parallel universe with malicious intent *
mario 64 and mario world are this complicated too
Ah, I see terraria is going the way of super mario 64 with alot of the recent tech, glitches, and tricks. This will be fun to see.
surely you cant bounce with it from pink slime block
... 🤔
@@EthyrielYhow about doing this at the edge of the world so your mouse stays put? 🤯
the lance speed can be achived in another way, with a floatie you can float on water but if your in water then put on the floatie you will accelerate to get to the top of the water, so if you build a atleast 4 block wide tunnel that goes up with water inside and put a platform on the back part and jump in you will achive inf speed so with lance you can insta kill mostly anything
if you augment this with an array of teleporters, you can reach a speed of 1 map height per frame. this was the method used by mappy to kill dungeon guardian in 1 tick, and even double back scale the dmg numbers in terraria (your hitting so hard it dealt 15k dmg more than the full 64bit integer cap x2)
I love how Terraria glitches are all

Touching the chests that function this way on console (or at least, xbox) will crash the game rather than putting the player into that state.
woah this has been made actually so much easier to set this up, that's insane. is it this easy to set up the transmutation thing aswell?
It is! This is the new, one-instance method which I have been meaning to make a dedicated guide about for awhile. It's faster, more consistent, and basically better in every single way lol
edit: You could also use this same setup to obtain any item the other Transmutation setups could. In this instance we're just using it to set-up the chest glitch.
fun visual glitch that i don't think will be very useful: when you hover your mouse over the glitched chest while falling and shooting a gun, you can go onto a mount and the position of the gun sprite doesn't change
Funny, me and a friend have that exact same glitch with a crystal chest, and it's existed before the transmutation glitch existed.
We don't even know how the glitch happened, but I think it might have been a result of a tedit bug, although I'm not certain.
I've tested it, and the speed glitch works.
I could probably send the world file if you contacted me, if you're interested that is, although I'm unsure about if the transfer would break the chest.
Edit: I've learned a bit more and it was just a coincidence that it's a crystal chest because it's the other one like it
I am big dumb
The last time I’ve seen anything about insane speed in Terraria was in a mappygaming video where he reached 756k mph, now I wonder if he’ll find some insane way reach higher speeds with this glitch
I think that the top speed is limited by how long you can keep your cursor over the chest, but something else in the game might break first.
I reached about 5,400,000 mph by leaving it overnight, which is a bit under 1% the speed of light.
maybe use 2 actuated teleporters and a player above logic sensor to teleport without losing speed
i've seen a similar contraption but it also used a door and you could get any item in the game so long as you can manipulate the item IDs into changing to desired ones.
Kudos =)
Thank you kindly! I've still got many more broken bugs to share, so stay tuned for those!
I love the bee mount and am happy to see this buff
The cool thing about terraria is that you don’t NEED a glitch like this to beat the game, if you are having so much trouble you can literally go to another server and get whatever you want.
I was just thinking about it since I saw that and though “oh I gotta get back into playing to beat some hard bosses”
But nah.
Also I gotta get back into terraria. It’s so good.
I love Terraria for its nuanced progression- it's why I have so many hours in the game. I also just so happen to have a knack for breaking games.
Stuff like this is the consequence of that lol
This is one of the reasons why Terraria is one of my favorite games. Good video, keep it up.
3:16 It'd be 53 m/s^2 since its the rate of acceleration and not velocity. Which I recognize is incredibly pedantic but I had to point it out
Aargh, I'm annoyed at myself that I missed that, given that I do alot with kinematics and therefore work with metric units regularly lol
Thanks for pointing it out^^!

Mappy gaming has a design that lets you reach more than a billion dps with the jousting lance
Mappy's video was an inspiration for this whole search for infinite speed, actually! (And for my glitch pursuits as a whole.)
I wanted to see if there was an easier / more compact way to achieve high DPS via lances, and this was the result!
*BEES MAKE HONEY*
Nuh uh
It's interesting how the community figures out ways to exploit the finicky behaviors of the game.
it's honestly impressive how much un-tapped jank there is in such an old and popular game
Hey, Ethy. Video idea:
This isn't exactly a glitch suggestion, but it IS related to using bees to gain infinite speed. Go check it out for yourself!
the lack of any music what so ever makes me feel like im getting a lecture from a professor, and its a welcome change of pace
Bro just casually drops "oh yeah we're creating a parallel universe" like that's perfectly normal 💀
Just an average Wednesday when you throw Transmutation into the equation.
well you see, it is a known fact that bees move quicker than the human eye, so fast to the point where they seem to just stand still. the devs wanted to show this and add this to stay true to the very real reality that i am talking about
"Want to see me run around that mountain and back?"
"Want to see me do it again?"
8:31 or use the flare gun to get to the projectile limit.
That's funny, I was just wondering how fast you can go in terraria 😂
the answer is *YES*
If you dismount and remount while hovering mouse over chest you can build speed in midair
"We must go to... ludicrous speed!"
"Minecraft Steve is faster than the Terrarian" they said
“What we have done is create a parallel universe” only in terraria
"So now what we've done is we've just created a parallel universe" is something I never thought I'd hear in a Terraria tutorial
I love how in almost every game the glitches make perfect sense and follow average game logic
THEN THERES TERRARIA
2:12 not the Vsause music coming out of nowhere 😂

Infinite speed? This video is truly made in heaven…

Mappy’s setup increases your speed much faster

There's another glitch where you can grapple to a platform and then blockswap it to a solid block, which prevents enemies from aiming at you with projectiles.
Bees grow more powerful each day, eventually they will solo Moon Lor- wait they already did.
No, they didn't. They required the help of a human because they don't have apposable thumbs & consequently can't hold a lance.
You know its powerfull when within 35 seconds you reach terraria calamity dps and within 5s when buffed
You can’t imagine how confused I was listening to this in the background when he said “we’ve created a parallel universe”
"But first, we need to talk about parallel universes."
"We just created a parallel universe"
*Miguel O'Hara, Kang and a bunch of Rick Sanchezs burst into the room*
When your so many bees that the speed fabric will be faster than speed because the number is accelerated. A classic german fairytail, thanks.
I honestly don’t know what to comment because of how casually you seem to break this game.
I love the VSauce reference lmao
I can now live out my dream of roleplaying as a ground spike! Thanks, Ethyriel!
How does the glitched golden chest interact with summons?
I remember seeing a video that used a mod/tool to change which projectiles are fired by which weapons, showing that some summons (I think finch staff?) generate projectiles, and if the projectile-Id for them is changed, funny things happen.
If a glitch was found that could generate projectiles including some form of ID switch (similar to how transmutation switches item-Ids), that might be able to generate lance-projectiles while in the glitched state.
maybe one day
closest thing we have right now would be with the fireworks i think, since the projectile they spawn can be changed to other fireworks, and probably other things too
also if the projectiles gave you the buff for the summon, then that buff would disappear as well as the summons i'd assume
Most summons just disappear, but there are turret types that work.
i have known for quite a while (i think since master mode)
playing around with things like etherian turret stacking it is not hard to hit the projectile cap of 1000 i think it was
pets, light pets, summons are all projectile
ranged/magic weapons all counted as projectiles for the sprite in hand but melee weapons did not iirc
having projectile cap filled or near filled does fun things to the pillar events (especially vortex)
lots of things break when you hit either the npc spawn cap of 200 or projectile cap of 1000
also hitting the buff/debuff cap is somewhat annoying if that happens less fun that the projectile and npc caps
can't wait to throw 1000 beachballs beforehand, go this and then cheese daytime EoL in the funniest way possible
It's like it was made in heaven
i guess terraria and super mario 64 share something in common now, parallel universes
That glitch is so damn specific, I want to know what tf was the person who discovered this thinking/doing.
Like, why Sandstone block? Why Bass statue? Why that specific shape setup?
Code analysis
(Actually, I have a slight theory, but it's still a miracle I found that shape.)
For the second part, there was logic behind it.
This reminds me of the old 1.3 item frame dupe, terraria glitches are wild.
7:05
just to clarify; you didn't really create a "parallel universe". instead, what you see is not what the server sees because it is not visible on your *client,* but it's in the server - which stores everything that actually exists. in multiplayer, each player has their own client, and each player's client interacts with the world via remotes - if one client breaks a block with a pickaxe, a remote fires from that client to the server to remove that block and drop it on the ground. so if you remove a tile from another player's client, that tile will not exist to them, but it will still exist to the server and all other clients. this is why this glitch does not work in singleplayer - because the player is a full member of the server. so essentially, the "parallel universe" you described is actually just the difference between your client and the server.
Interesting! That fits in with alot of what I've observed with two/three player de-syncs, while researching Transmutation.
The concept of "parallel universes" has wound up being a fairly useful construct for explaining de-sync tech (And, frankly, for my own understanding of some of the more esoteric glitches.)
Even if what's going on in actuality it has more to do with what actions clients send to the server, are sent to other clients, or are some mixture of the two.
It is the first time I've seen someone use the Honeyed Goggles mount ever
It's still hilarious to me that the _bee mount_, out of every single mount in the game, is the one that allows this glitch to work.
I remember screwing around with these chest back in 2020 with my friends
I’m utterly disappointed infinite speed is used for everything except the only reason speed exists at all: moving
You can move, but only for one frame.
…with enough velocity, though (~200,000mph) , you can teleport across the map in said single frame.
I was playing aruound in terraria and if you got up to the space and then equip a mount and then desequip you would acellarate really quickly, naturally I placed a portal below and another on a slope and I flew for 100s of blocks, 100% recommend.
This video remind me of that altough I dont think you accelarate that fast doing this
Might need to try that- So, mount near a portal, and to kindov sling yourself with a small instance of acceleration?
Leave it to Yri to figure out how to obliterate bosses by looking at chests...
Imagine this glitch with the slime mount, it was made with the sole purpose of falling fast so you can damage enemies
the bee mount? not quite what i expected when you said "It's bees." but close enough... even though it should have been "It's a bee."
I hope this isn’t patched. It’s never gonna affect actual playthroughs, just funny shit to mess around with.
dude I immediately subscribed and got hooked when the vsauce audio started, good stuff mannnn
The stillness in motion. But instead of an album is literal
"In effect what we've just done is we've created a parallel universe."
simplest terraria glitch
my initial idea? have someone flip a switch to remove platforms below you to then fall into a portal that will launch you horizontally
Hopping off the mount seems to instantly remove all of your velocity back to terminal falling speed (So either 51mph or 179mph, regardless of previous speed), but I'm still trying to find a work-around to this.
