Two things. I’ll never fully understand how your house and yard are completely safe zones. So many places to nurse amongst the trees and this bear, with small cubs, goes belly up in the driveway, totally relaxed. Next, now I think I understand how they grow so fast and so big. There’s a virtual poo poo platter of milk to choose from. I caught the purring 🩵💚🧡💖

She’s running out of milk in growing these two lovely cubs, watching them cycle through available nipples and then drink some water on top? You show great things, Patrick, and Lola is an amazing mum.
Hi Valerie! Did you know that a mother bear has six nipples. The newborn cub (or cubs) crawls to the nipples closest to her pelvis to nurse. Later, as the cubs get older, they nurse from the top four and the mother often “switches off” production in the bottom two. If that doesn't blow your mind, she also has two primary teats that produce milk with a higher fat content than the others. Whole and skim! Well, it blew my mind. Thanks for the kind words.

@@owensmith7530 Ya, but that was the first time in a while she'd seen Patrick if that was as former cub. She would never nurse like that if she didn't feel completely safe. That's rarely ever been caught on camera like that in the wild. She looked right at Patrick, and didn't even flinch. I think this is a former cub, who wasn't sure of the boundaries as an adult, but now feels totally safe.
