I think you're spot on, how amazing. "The best part, for me at least, comes at 37:35 when dinner is served. I don't think I've ever seen as much excitement on the part of a bear cub as these two exhibited. "
Seems like she was just trying to comfort and nurture her cubs. They have been through a living nightmare. These precious creatures are blessed to have your yard as a safe place to rest. Please accept my humble and sincere prayers. 🙏💚🐻
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I watch the Explore Bear cam, and have for the last 7 years, I have not seen the length of time grooming...ever. I think you are correct. They seem exhausted. 😢
I am constantly amazed...how often we are told, that hanging around a mama bear with her cubs, is asking for trouble...yet, Patrick rules his turf, and the bears seem to understand the situation! Just remarkable, and I am so happy that your life, and property, is doing OK.
Don't need to tell you but please stay safe. Haven't heard them vocalize before. Some of their food sources wiped out? Only ask, because believe you know much more about bears than i. Thank you for sharing your visitors with us. ♥️👍🏻
So beautifully stated. I don't think we can pay a human being a greater compliment than to say that wildlife trusts that person implicitly, esp. wildlife mothers with babies.
Patrick, this video made my day!❤ I can’t imagine what this momma & her cubs went through. How wonderful that she feels so safe in your yard to bring her babies there. Thank you for taking the time to record this & share this with us. ❤❤❤
Hi Patrick. I loved when you said, no,no,no, none of that, i live here and Lola took a step back as if saying ,oh, its you, ok, mind if i clean myself first ? 😂😂 They are a lovely healthy looking family. Please take care
Fascinating! I've never heard bears talking like that, just among themselves rather than responding to a threat or intruder. Seeing them talk about the snack they found makes me wonder (and worry) about their natural food supply; how much of it was devastated by the hurricane and its aftermath. (We're so focused on our own trauma, we forget or overlook the fact that trauma affects the natural world, too. Like the bears of NC: What was going through their minds during Helene? Where did they find shelter? How many of them lost their hard-won territory, and what will they do now?)
Their supply of acorns on the ground increased as oak trees fell and nuts were knocked off. They also eat vegetation, insects, fish, meat. They are opportunistic eaters so any food left outside will attract them. If anything, they have been over-feeding since the storms.
That sound reminded me of my neighbor's cat. She usually gave them dry food, but once I took a pouch of wet food down, and her elderly female cat started making noises like that as she ate! 😅 She also did it later on when a vet recommended that she gave her a little pumpkin for some digestive issues. We interpreted it to be "nom nom" 😅
As a native North Carolinian it breaks my heart what you have been through. You are so respectful of the bear…. And she understands this as shown by displaying intimate grooming of the cubs in your presence. She obviously appreciates your kindness and respect. My temptation would be to feed them knowing what they have been through recently.
I absolutely would, they're already habiituated, and we took up a lot of their habitat, and bear some of the responsibility of their hunger . Nobody needs to know, unless they start v wearing body cams!
So sorry you are still without utilities. Prayers for you, your sister and mom while you waiting. Like you it’s encouraging to see Lola and cubs but disconcerting to know that all the wildlife has been traumatized (human, animal and bird). It was wonderful to hear the birds as well!
That is beyond CUTE! Teddy bear nap time on your front lawn! The little family knows you're there but they are still relaxed. Bravo Patrick! You have created a safe place for wildlife.
These babies seem to be exhausted from the horrors of the last few days. Mama wants them cleaned up and thoroughly inspected. Mama probably needs a cup of tea, to calm her nerves.

So good to see these angels who made it through the hurricane. Looks like Mom checking out her cubs cause she is so grateful they are in one piece. I'm with Momma Bear! I'm so grateful, too.
So nice to see bears coming around again. I see Bella's home got damaged in the storm, but the baby bear safety tree is still standing. Those two growly dining cubs are too funny!
They feel really at home at your place, but of course, they know they're safe. I hope all the bears are fine and don't get disturbed too much by all the ongoing rescue, cleanup and rebuilding exercises.

What a treat to observe a mama bear groom their cubs 😮! And such thorough ablutions 😅. Thank you so much for the trouble of uploading such a long video 😊. Your videos are, entre autre, highly educational. I feel I could converse freely about the behavior of black bears should the need arise. E.g. at a party in a crowd of zoologists 😆. Heartbreaking hashtag 😢 though, and then there are the reconstruction? sounds in the background that remind us of the devastation that took place in Asheville 🥺. Take care ❤
You have such a pretty house Patrick no wonder the bears come to hang out with you. Lola is a good mum taking care of her kids. Hope that all the bears come back soon. Thanks.
You are so thoughtful Mr. Conely. I would call you Patrick ur you don't know I'm older. So with all due respect I call you by your full name or your last name. Thank you for being so thoughtful to the beautiful bears.

Thanks, Patrick!
they probably thought you put out those chairs for them Patrick and those noises while eating at the end...
Does a bear sleep in the woods?
no they sleep on Patrick's lawn😁😂
It’s like she is checking them all over for any little cuts or scratches.
Comfort and nurture at Uncle Patrick's!!! Bless them!!! They were hungry! Yummm Yummm Yummmm sounds are sooo clear!!! Thanks for maintaining a safe zone for them. "No fighting. Be fair!"
the yummm yummm sounds were spectacular!!!!
