While the world's going crazy and youtube's algo serving me a cocktail of potential crises this channel is always an oasis of peace. The bears, the dog barking, the bird feeder plundered and demolished (as usual, like Im watching the Groundhog day movie) is all one needs. Thanks Patrick.

They are the cutest little nuggets ever! That second one who was climbing off the railing was sooooo careful not to let go until his little bear paws hit the porch. I am in love.

Yes I almost did. Ruby is smart. She could’ve assumed the little one ran ahead into the bushes. But she knew the cub didn’t leave the porch. She came back looking for her cub and looked at Patrick. I almost fainted. But soon after she did leave one of the cubs on the porch and went ahead to leave. I guess by then she deemed him innocent of any wrongdoing because she saw the third cub. 😳
They are all a big family.....
And never discount a critter's super smart sense of smell ---- there was no fear scent or danger scent. Just a playground vibe I think...

Okay, that was a little tense at the end. I chuckled afterwards. As much as this bear trusts Patrick, she is still a wild animal with big claws and big teeth and can be extremely fast. Love, but respect. Smart move keeping the chair between yourself and the bear.

Ah, stealthy Ruby silently sneaking up to the birdseed store. Thank goodness you had a chair to hide behind on that end of the porch! I can't help but chuckle at the cubs trying to climb down from the railing - it's hard to get a toe-hold when your little hind feet go through the slats and hang in space. And then the one who thundered across to the other end of the porch - maybe we should call him/her Bolt (after Usain)! 🐻😂

Ruby seemed pretty relaxed with Patrick in a different spot than usual. Ruby seemed curious, but not aggressive. It continues to amaze me that bear moms seem comfortable with their cubs near Patrick - and sometimes unattended! That’s a LOT of trust!
I don’t see what Patrick does to let the adult bears know that they are too close, but whatever it is, it seems pretty gentle. Ruby took her mild reprimand pretty well. She showed she understood.
It looks like the adult bears (especially Ruby) understands that a mild reprimand is just a reminder for her not to get too close to Patrick. She clearly knows that she is still welcome on the porch - as long as she follows the Porch Rules. She seems a LITTLE startled, but only for a second or two, then she gives Patrick space. She MIGHT even feel a little guilty!
Patrick has REALLY mastered the art of bear communication. He assumes they are smart and that they understand the Porch Rules - especially after a few visits.
I love how Ruby and Simone know that their cubs are safe with Patrick. The cubs know they can hang out on the porch if mom leaves, but they also know they need to catch up with mom, so the cubs only spend a minute alone on the porch when mom heads off.
One of my favorite videos is of Simone seeing a car coming, so she climbs a tree. When she sees that Patrick is the driver, she immediately climbs down the tree, knowing that Patrick is TOTALLY trustworthy and she is completely safe. Simone knew Patrick as a friend, even out of context.
I love seeing Ruby and her cubs visit Patrick. Thanks for feeding them the bird seed. They sure love it--and you. You always welcome them and give them a safe and friendly environment to be in. ❤❤❤❤❤

The Doggo alarm was a little late this time. I swear, that deck & railing will survive any kind of natural disaster since it's held up from all of it's bear visitors over the years.
They've spread the word now. All the mother bears know where to go for treats.

After a year of observation, reading various literature, I realized that bears are incredibly smart and intelligent animals. They are amazing. Your experience with them, Patrick, is incredible. I am delighted.

She doesn't seem to pay attention to what the cubs are doing, but she knew right away that one of them didn't come down from the porch. Good thing you kept your cool and didn't try to "help" him find his way down!!
The babies have so much energy and seem to enjoy climbing all over. Ruby is always so respectful. I miss NC. I keep hoping for bears to visit me here in Fort Payne, AL, but all I get is deer. Oh well. Patrick, I love watching them grow and frolic at your place 😍🐻

I have to say my heart was pounding when Ruby came back up and was so close to you 🙏🙏. The babies are so cute. I loved watching them climb down the rail 🥰. I really laughed when the last baby started running across the porch 😂. I have a feeling that’s the one who did the acrobatic move on Ruby. As I've said before, can't believe how agile the adult bears are. You wldnt think birdseed wld be satisfying for her but she always goes for it!
Ruby never had her hair standing up down her back like she was upset.She knows to trust you.She knows you never touch any of them.I remember the time Simone rushed back up the steps onto the porch when one of her babies yelled out when the cat scared it.The long hair all down her spine was sticking straight up as she ran back up the steps ready to find out what happened to her cub to make it scream!Even then with hair standing on end she wasn’t aggressive.She saw the baby was fine and everything was ok.These bears are not looking to cause trouble.

Ahh, so sweet. I love watching how careful they are in getting down from the railing. The birds are kind to share their food.. good to see the gang back. They know they are safe near Patrick's home. I hear Bella exercising her voice again. I wonder how she would react if she was outside, but Ruby seems to ignore her yapping.
I'm amazed that the bear keeps coming back after all this time. Brings the family, too.

They're so cute when they climb down from the fence. So careful. Same when they pass the 'pole'. I reckon balancing on that railing is nothing to them though, considering how skillful they were at climbing big trees already when they were just itty bitty!

Its great to see the bears again getting up to mischief. I really missed it when they stopped you from feeding them , they started to give up coming around as much.
It's amazing that their memory has them still checking the porch for food.
It's amazing how gentle the mom bear is , they say never be around a mom and her cubs , yet she brings them to you, and while she will size you up , she knows she can trust you.
She could easily have moved past the chair and really hurt you, but she doesn't, bears might be dangerous , but they aren't stupid , they know you as source for food so the mom let's you sit and watch, its almost like she has made a deal with a human , its actually really clever and intellectual, a non verbal deal so both human and bear get what they want.

You might want to put your video making chair closer to the front door, just in case. Be well. I certainly enjoy these interactions, but not at the risk to your safety.
