I'm 32 and just getting in tune with my aesthetic and career goals - it can be hard when you have to work for other peoples vision, but eventually you fall into patterns that just feel right
Good luck!
@@zoehongteaches hi i am student and i want to do fashion designing in future
What things do i need to have basic knowledge of to join a fashion academy?
@@ashishawasthi8977 There are lots of videos that Zoe has made that are about that. She has lots of playlists that will help you out.
@@oceanacemafer thank for the info
I'm almost 30 and I feel the same ! Working for others and the noise all over the industry just made my sense of personal aesthetic blurry
I was having an brand identity crisis last night. Omg thank you thank you thank you so much for this video!!!! You have no idea how much this has helped ease my mind
You are so welcome!
There's is nothing more amazing than experience speaking ! Thanks ZOE ❤️
You're welcome!
I am so happy to hear your advice again!
Omg I sooooo needed this 😍 You are a blessing 💖
I always learn something so important from you and it’s usually something outside the world of fashion and design!
Absolutely love this video concept!
you're so inspiring and you give good advices. I really admire you.
Exactly what I needed to hear before starting my own brand!! Thank you for the pragmatic and imaginative advice!! Will be referring to this video often.
Thank you so much Zoe. Another masterpiece of a video yet again!
Hope you stay up with your channel, it helps me a lot since I was starting my fashion design education, I'm sure many designers are also grateful for the videos!
Dang Zoe you got that in that last note. Not only am I getting into fashion but also working out. Thanks Sensei!
Here's a question for an inspiration related video: How do you avoid falling into the same patterns everytime you try to seek new inspiration? For example, whatever i look at i always end up going back to the same silhouettes & colours. Fantastic & helpful video as usual thank you so much for sharing it with us!!
Maybe those are your house codes??
Seek inspiration outside of fashion, in other things you like :)
Repetition doesn't make you boring...it makes you an expert. As long as it's not literally the exact same thing. Add little changes.
omg thank you so much for this video! I'm currently studying fashion design and I was not in the mood for creating something new, because I tend to stick to some rules I made up in my head, not knowing that they're literally my house codes, like you explained. it gave me so much motivation, so thanks again!
Just what I needed!!! Thank you so much for the content, especially because you don’t charge! ❤️❤️
watching a designer has helped me a lot, especially designing my own hero costumes, i'm trying to make the kevelar really stand out for my main suits, i still struggle very much so, but i have learned a lot from zoe hong. i love the work and in depth of how she shows fashion and deoth in her explanations, i hope too see more videos soon.
i loved the little lesson on Lanvin; absolutely fantastic information! ✨
I love her she is always so helpful
Thank you!!! I love your straight forward approach to offering us useful information!❤️
Zoe, your videos , of which I watch at least a dozen a week, are nothing short of incredible and straight to the point. Especially now, at home , no job, covid bollocks and mandates, and about to launch my first line of one off designs. I have done my time at Fashion School, but I wish I had of spent that 3 years with you. You're amazing! Thank you so much for the hours of your wisdom, your energy, good humour and humility. You're a gem to ALL inspiring and practicing fashion designers. Big love from Australia, and hope you're navigationg well 🙏💖
You've encouraged and inspired me so much, Beyond just sewing and creating. Thankyou! For helping me keep my head up and being a voice that encourages me to want to work more :)
wow I'm feeling so motivated right now. thanks!
i love your content Zoe!! And i totally agree with you: never limit yourself, experiment as much as you can, master what makes you unique & design for people are the thing that i always say to people whom want to work in fashion, and what i do to become better & more successful
OMG I LOVE YOU ZOE HONG. You are so right. The inspiration part, the second half, the beginning ALL OF IT.
I’m a digital designer and I’m really glad I found your channel! I’ve been learning a lot!
OMG this video is giving me so much hope and encouragement. I have a few things in my life that I'm very passionate about that will be the inspiration to my fashion brand and i can't wait to execute them! Your videos are amazing. I can't say that enough.
It's lovely to see you back!!!
As a beginner designer -I’d just like to say your videos have given me so much knowledge and Inspiration! Thank you for being an awesome creator and teacher ❤️ can’t wait to watch and learn more from your channel
Xoxo
I saw this video back when it came out when I wasn't at fashion school, and now I just dropped out because I'm doing all sorts of things and this just feel soooo refreshing again. Made me start working out my designing skills even more and develop some stuff that I really didn't knew. Thank you, Zoe.
This was such a great video! Just last night I started thinking about what would make my brand unique and I started brainstorming about things unique to my country that would set me apart just a bit from other brands. So this video has confirmed I'm on the right track with my thinking. Thank you so much
that was an awesome presentation Zoe. I feel that so much of what i heard today i can apply to my own studio practice. thanks
This video was exceptional, you were so clear with the examples and it has also cleared out some doubts that i've always had. Thank you Zoe!!
Love this channel! Thank you Zoe!
I love how you pretty much mentioned here the concept of the "minimum viable product", which really is a critical component for not just fashion brands (that are businesses in their own rights; we should all treat them like businesses) but for all kinds of businesses that are at the startup level and are just getting ready to run out into the world.
It's a cute idea if, out the gate, one plans and manages to turn up with some kind of a "collection zero" of sorts (like to declare their codes and whatnot), but it just takes on so many risks that - you basically have to worry now about multiple pieces and products selling enough and/or grabbing enough attention. And that tends to be overwhelming and potentially unmanageable for anyone who's not only new to fashion but specifically to the business side of fashion.
Great to see you back (youtube didn't show me you're earlier uploads from a few weeks ago), I especially enjoyed the first 9 minutes where you spoke about the DNA of a brand and how it's interpreted by whoever is at the helm and it'd be an interesting video/set of videos if you did a deep dive of a house and how new creative heads have retained the hallmarks of the original creators while also adding their spin e.g. how Daniel Roseberry has referenced Schiaparelli's connection to surrealism/Salvador Dali or how Sarah Burton has went all-in with the romanticism Alexander McQueen infused into his clothes but they've lost a lot of the bite/edge.
Thank you so much for these videos 💞 have been watching you all through school and now a couple years into my career and I still feel like I’m learning so much from you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for this video! It was exactly what I needed 🙏🏼💕
Thanks Zoe! Super helpful
Thanks Zoe, I have left my design journey for 2 years now since I left school. I had tried but failed to pursue it because of limited finance to do high-end gown. I am rethinking about coming back to start something small first to continue my passion. 😊
Good luck
This is such an amazing video!

You're welcome!
Zoe!! You are amazing. Thank you for this. This is a great video.
Bravo, fantastic video and topic Ms. Zoe Hong! Gosh I'm writting down what you said at one point in the video that I feel is so relevant to any creative field, "An idea without excecution is only a daydream". Thank you for always giving us a perspective where growth and betterment is at heart!
Your inspiration girl!!! 💪💪😊
I’m always learning whenever I watch your videos! Thank you! Special video idea. Silencing the noise, the family, social media, society etc. digging deep to find what really drives you, your own true imagination and inspiration. I hear what you said about the great houses following what life gave them as their inspo. The distractions today do seem to be more intense. If you have any tips or insights into this can you consider this as a video idea. Thank you again, Zoe!
I love Zoe there in no one can teach us with love like u , I always come back to u I love u

Literally the video I’ve been waiting for. I’m more than convinced you have mind reading powers Sensei Zoe ✨
Mwahahahahahahaha I'm psychic! hahaha
You are awesome! thanks for this.
I decided not to fear change and Inspiration is never a problem. I have even started challenging myself with refashioning, specifically the Pendleton wool jackets that have moth holes! Cutting and refashioning as I see it. Learning how to repair the small moth holes, etc.
I enjoyed this video immensely. I remember my first worked out design; a fitted cloth diaper that fit between 5lbs to 35lbs. I'm not going to add that to my line because I like doing adult clothes.
My aesthetic is more or less mix and match separates that can be styled in many ways. Its based upon my own broke existence in which I can't afford to have a large wardrobe. Its is a take on the capsule wardrobe. My clothes have quite a range of style in that most pieces can be used for professional, goth, punk and romanticish... Period piece are worn with current styles and its a lit of fun for me.
What I end up doing mostly are Goth wedding gowns, modest prom/dance/bridesmaids dresses that don't look frumpy and that teenagers do like and not feel out of sync with their peers. I sent some LDS girls on mission with quality mix & match that most wear for years after coming home and fit into a young starting out family model. I also make silk or rayon Hanboks for weddings or formal events. I know my customers well enough to know that using my Goth/Punk cotton sugar soul and black and hot pink strip Hanbok would send customers running away.
I do allow for some fun such as my Hanbok, goth Harleyquinn dress and punk dresses or skirts for church. I recently made an authentic Kimono for one of the sisters at church. She's 92 and figures that she should have her funeral plans in place.
Colors... I haven't really thought much about besides black and a deep blood ruby red.. So now you've given me much to think about. Am looking into some sort of online fashion degree course as I can't afford to move. Fade.... I miss the 80s when it was so much easier to move long distances in some kind of affordable way...
I got into your channel right before your hiatus and am so happy to see you back!! Your videos have really helped reignite my love for design and have inspired me to enroll in a design school :)

Ms. Zoe, you are an amazing artist!! You have no idea how much you enrich my life. I do not aspire to become a designer, my favorite hobby has been cooking, but you have opened my mind an my eyes to a new dimension. You are an awesome teacher.
I have learned so much from you that now I see the world through different eyes.
I enjoy very much watching you draw. Your drawings are much more beautiful than the photographs!
In the late 50's, I would see my beautiful mother leaving the house to attend official government functions in the different countries where my father was assigned to represent our country, (Mexico) as a diplomat. She often wore dresses and evening gowns designed by Ramon Valdiosera. His designs were inspired on the different traditional and regional attire of our people. I see what you mean in your suggestion to go out and see the world for inspiration. I am so excited to continue to learn though you wonderful videos. I truly admire you, your talent, and your warmth, fun temperament and your kindness and generosity in sharing your blessings.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for your kind words! Do you have any of your mother's old clothes? That would be amazing.
Thanks sooo much for sharing!❤️❤️❤️
