Auntie Zoe dropping knowledge bombs!! I actually just did my first sample in the actual fabric and made a list of things that need to be changed or amended, such an important step!
My biggest dream is to have my own clothing label for babies and their mamas. I have the clearest visions of what I want to make, and this video is incredible! But when I see all this I doubt myself so much and start to think that I won't be capable of doing this :( Does anyone else feel the same? Or felt the same and did it anyway?
@thecoconutpuff I do, but videos like these help me get my ideas out of my head. There are so many resources out there girl. For one, you have to believe in yourself! I think you have a great idea, so take that idea and make it real. #don'tloosehope #practiceuntilyougetit , xoxo.
TheCoconutPuff I feel the same way. It seems like a lot but if you believe in yourself and in your idea im sure you will be successful. You never know until you try and as hard as it is to start you can talk to somebody who can help you! Keep watching videos or seek help from other resources. Dont give up on your dream! Im sure once you get the hang of doing things you will be so happy you did it.
It doesn’t make me doubt myself I love this video and so happy I found it. Tbh just don’t push yourself let things be the way it supposed to. If u feel great about ur ideas go for it. I see people with different styles being successful all the time. It’s room for anyone of us.
@@indiee4971 I agree with you! But I also believe that you should push yourself, nothing is handed to anyone. "Work hard, and whatever is for you, will be yours." I wish you all the best girl, xoxo.
this video was amazing! i feel like this is the sort of information that people spend weeks/months/years of schooling to get. Thank you so very very much for such concise yet in-depth info! thank youuu
Thank you for being so thorough and precised!... not only this is this is fun to watch but so EDUCATIONAL! you're the best! Appreciate you sharing all your knowledge
You are a gem my daughter has natural talent went to fashion school and somewhere lost her drive and is depressed working in retail all this happen because I wasn’t in her life she moved with her dad and step mom to live and I was her muse I’m finally back in her life and want to push her back to her dream and you have given me the best info I could ask for. You are wonderful sharing your knowledge with the world. Thank you so much may God continue to bless you and keep you.
Great video! Thank you so much. I would love more videos on making my own designs/garments. I am a plus size woman who never gets clothing to fit properly. If it fits somewhat well, the color is accentuating the obvious, (and not in a flattering way). I would love to make my own clothing, and clothing for others that flatters and is basically unrestricted.I think your videos could just open up my fashion experience for me. Thank you again.
Thanks Zoe. Watched it while diligently taking notes(I almost transcribed it 🤣). Single time is not enough, I'll watch it one more time. Thanks and cheers
Zoe Senpaaai Thank yoooou for your generosity and kindness! You're helping designers all over shape their dreams one video at a time😂♥️♥️♥️I just need to ask you please, the made to order process, mostly in evening gowns, can you enlighten us with that too please. Many hugs and lots of love from Saudi Arabia♥️♥️♥️
It's not that different. Every designer has different skills so you build your career emphasizing your skills. You don't need to order the fabric in advance. You don't make samples, you make the gown. You should still create a tech pack to organize yourself and communicate with your client.
Zoe Hong Thank you! I'm still kinda trying to figure out lots of other crap, my aim is to start an evening gown boutique, and your videos are helping a bunch, but I guess there are some hills I will have to trot by myself and I'm so looking forward to it. Once again shokran🙏 (Thank you in my language😁💛)
Would you be open to making a video on how you can individually get a garment made? Best practices of sourcing a Master Tailor, materials and fittings…etc? I am petite 5’1” and am interested in getting a dress made (not wedding dress)

Este video me abrio los ojos, mil gracias por tu apoyo y por compartir tu conocimiento. abrazos!
Why would you order a sample in medium if you're not a size medium? Wouldn't it make sense to get a sample in your size so you can feel how it fits? Who's going to test your sample to make sure its not itchy or something
Zoe ... have you ever produce a video on how to start a Made to Measure company and if not ... will it be possible for you to produce video on Made to Measure business...
Hey Zoe, great video with lots of information. I recently completed my Ph.D with specialisation in Apparel and Textile Science from India. Now I’m in Oxford, Ohio. So where I start my career here? I’m on J2 Visa type, so I need Visa sponsorship.
Zoe, this is unrelated but I need your opinion. I'm asking this because you're a teacher and I've seen that you review other designers' work in some of your videos. Here's my question: How much influence should a mentor have on a designers work? My mentor and I didn't see eye-to-eye recently. I took 75% of her advice and want to know if I'm making a grave mistake by not taking it 110% Please help me.
Not an expert but if you're a designer your design should be 100% what you wanted to create, obviously as a mentor they're trying to help you but they're humans too with their own appeals and aesthetic. Try to take the good advice but also don't compromise your creations just because someone else doesn't like it.
Hi Zoe! Again thanks for sharing all this valuable content. I have a question if you could answer it I would be really grateful: from where are taken the measurements placed on the tech packs: designer's imagination/will/taste/desire, a basic garment, the block, all of the above? Thanks again and have a happy week!
Your fit is your fit. You develop a fit that works for your customer. You can measure a garment you think really fits well to get started or pick up one of the spec books I recommend in my tech pack series. They books are also listed in my How to Become a Fashion Designer description box.
hello. i would like to start and jean line but i do not know where to start. i do not know how to draw. i just have so= many ideas and i do not know how to transfer it to make a physical product. help me please!
We live in such exciting times with the internet, to be able to see and hear someone with your level of knowledge its priceless! This is a fantastic break down for someone who is considering entering the Fashion Arena. Yes, many of the steps you mentioned may not apply to all but is good to have an idea of the industry as a whole. Thanks for loving Fashion and for sharing such great knowledge through your wonderful channel Ms. Zoe Hong!
One of my teachers asked me to follow you on youtube and I am soo hooked now. Don't ever stop making videos and sharing your knowledge bombs!!! And yes teacher, I am taking notes. :)
How do you protect your idea while working with a vendor(s) to go through this process of developing your initial concept, samples, and eventually creating the final products to sell?
i'm 13 and going into a high school focused on internships, i'm going to do one some place where i can sew things. i just wanna learn a bit of stuff before i jump in.
Zoe, I've dreamt of being a fashion designer from a child. I attempted my fashion career some years ago without really doing proper research, etc. That said I didn't do as well as I'd like. Watching your videos have been so incredibly informative that I've decided to try again - this time I can only be successful. Yay!!! Thank you for your consistent hard work! Blessings
Zoe, great video as always. How can we decide what size as the base size for a collection? For example I have model, she is size 36EU measurements B/W/H 82-64-90cm. How can I know if I establish my size 36 EU(or US4) based on those measurements, it can fit average customer with size 36? what if the customer has bigger bust but smaller hips? what could be the best reference for deciding the sizing?
Good GAWD I didn't realize a single garment could get so many samples!! Here I am complaining about making 2 toiles in college lol Thanks for another amazing and informational video, Zoe!!
Thanks Zoe for this informative video... I’m so excited to get started! I have a question on size run. As you mentioned we will need to work on the middle size, if I’m planning to launch “M,L,XL & XXL” what would be the middle size? L or XL? Thank you😊
Thank you so much Zoe for making these amazing videos. I learned and gained so much knowledge from you and please never stop making videos. you are #fabulous
Hi Zoe, I'm very grateful for the videos and I've been watching for a while. I wanted to know if I physically create my pattern on paper but am working with a manufacturer in a different country, how do I effeciently share that pattern?

Great info . I already own a custom made fashion house (fashion boutique ) , I also give clothes on RENT I make garments out of cut pieces and now I want to open my own clothing line . Its a slow fashion clothing category . Its versatile and one size fits all category and made on order (as I don't want to waste fabric or buy bulk fabric ) . But I am confused about how to reach to right people? My target customer is everyone who wants to save planet and stay fashionable and loved mix and match .I will be using youtube and insta and all other channels but how do I really reach people and sell ?
I love fashion design a lot and I found this video really helpful! ...I do have a lot of ideas and drawings but I don't really know how to sew. and in the state I live in, there are no colleges that have fashion design.
Wow!! I'm speechless in the form you explained and the best part is, I understood every word you said. You have a way in speaking to people at least in my opinion. I'm just a person that loves to sew and loves to learn much more professionally than just having someone explain what a sewing machine needle is. I'm beginning to design my own clothes now (just for me) because some designs out there, well, do not fit my style unless I'm 20 and a size 0. I'll admit I am what the fashion industry calls large size I'm a 16 and either the fashion industry doesn't care how we look or just wants to poke fun trying to dress us as if the circus just arrived in town with large bright colors, I'm surprised the clown nose and shoes where not included with the outfit. I thank you very much for what you do helping us to understand about fashion, fabrics, etc. I am a subscriber now..YOU INSPIRE ME. Thanks again
