Good to see the new rig. With respect to drop axles and air pressure, if you keep them at a minimum or zero, your rig air compressor is satisfactory to have those items that use air will have sufficient air to function. Only adjust the drop axle pressure when you need them. Enjoy your new toy!

It wasn’t my choice but I’ll say this, it is absolutely not in a companies best interest to buy manuals. The majority of drivers who have had their CDL for less than 10 years are not legal to drive a manual. They have a hard enough time finding people to fill the seats, cutting out such a huge Chunk of the driver population would be stupid.

    • @jonlaster7686

Dauminique The Dump Truck Driver, you make very valid points. I ran a transfer in SoCal for a while. Both automatic and manual. I have to say I hated that automatic. No finesse. Backing into the horns made you look like a rook lol.
It’s definitely unfortunate the way of drivers and automatics. You lose a level of experience, not being able to control the vehicle on your own. But, it’s a sign of the times lol. Good looking kdub tho! Good luck, and keep that greasy side on the ground.

The air bags add in something special. A rancher around town borrowed his friends dump truck. He did not dump the air bags, he had some damp gravel on one side, he laid the truck on the side. Too much air on your front lift may cause lazy or late steering. I am sure that you will be excellent!

Each drop pressure should be around 35 to 40 psi. Each drop axle more than likely rated at around 10,000 lbs. you should set them at the scale so you know what they are. If you get inspected by DOT and those drops are set to high, could cost you. Should say on the tag on the door jam what the drop axles are rated for.

Some mechanic's insight. The drop axles are air powered. The Strong Arm and dump are hydraulic and need the PTO that powers the hydraulic pump. Think of your new truck like a new pair of shoes or boots. You need time in it to get comfortable, but, then if will feel so good.
Those 3 knobs likely adjust the down force on each axle to maintain proper weight on the steer axle plus DOT axle limits. Does Strong Super Dumps have a tutorial? Maybe they need you to make a video of setting the drop axle pressures. You will rock this truck....

Air pressure on lift axles changes from truck to truck but they usually run between 40 and 60psi. I have driven dump trucks before where I had to keep the air pressure around 50-55psi but currently I drive a KW T880 quint and I run 45psi on all of my axles, for some trucks that’s too low but like I said, pressure changes from truck to truck. Here’s a good idea I learned years ago about figuring out the right air pressure for your lift axles; whenever you’re going down the road LOADED with your lift axles down, move the steering wheel a little from side to side and if you feel the back of your truck kinda like loose or fishtailing, then you have too much air pressure on your lift axles and it’s picking up the back end of your truck. Back out on your air pressure until you feel your truck firmly going around the curves or when moving the steering wheel side to side. Gorgeous looking truck you have there though.

For real one awesome truck , really nice ! Hmm ..... air bags ..... I think the 1st thing you're going to notice when you actually start working the truck , is going to be how much more comfortable the ride is going to be . I spent most of my 21 years on the road in trucks with straight out spring suspensions and man were they ever rough riding . I noticed in the video you have a trailer air knob for setting the brakes , can you utilize that truck to pull trailers ? And you don't come across as a "dumb ass" at all . We all started out somewhere and learned as we went . The only true dumb ass is the ones who try to fake it and don't ask questions or take the time to learn when confronted with something new and over time that generally bites the in the ass to remind them they don't know .

Hey Dauminique, I have a suggestion on opening the hood, instead of climbing up on the bumper and pulling it open, try pushing it up from one side over the steering axle or just behind it on the fender. I have been doing this for years mostly because of shoulder injuries from pulling it over instead of pushing it over lol. Just a suggestion have a great day I enjoy your vids, keep em coming!!

When raising the hood if you grab with one hand and extend your other arm out and away you can use your body weight better to lift the hood. I use a small loop made from a piece of rope that I put around the grab handle that lets me lean out even further.

Find a local scale with a single platform scale. Hear me out. Not the long platform, a single axle platform, that way you can get a accurate individual axle weight, unless you want to go to a Cat Scale and split weigh.
Hope this is helpful. Be safe.

Hey I've driven anything from a long nose 359 and W900 to my current stub nose T800. One thing my dad taught me is not to open the hood from the front but rather from the fender by the wheel. You're pushing up on it from the side opposed to pulling from the front. Hope it helps and you save your back.

The box vibrator works well on almost everything......helps get last bit of asphalt out, sand and any gravel that is stuck in there with abit of dirt.....it however doesn't work well with clay, I always resort to asking shovel operator end of day to scrape box. Do not hold button for vibrator for long or you will burn out that unit, just do small spurts with the button. I think they are about $2000cdn from where I'm from, learned the hard way not to hold the button down. Not sure if you do snow removal but works well with that too. Don't forget to dump the air in your suspension when you go to dump, I normally flip pto off then flip the air suspension button once the box has reached the top. Nice rig! How many hp does the X15 have? You'll also notice with that motor and trans setup that its quicker then the 18spds....I know this because currently on a site with bunch of pete's that're all auto and they all pull away from me within the first 45sec, lol.
    Good luck! truck looks good
