Never saw a failure like that. The drive shaft is supposed to fail before it shears off the pinion. Must have been a fatigue crack in the pinion shaft. I like my Mack differentials because they have double reduction in them. If you ever get into loose gravel or sand and your wheels start hopping, it is a good idea to get a tug from someone because if you keep trying, something is going to break.

I've seen a few, sometimes its just built up fatique over time that creates little micro fractures in the shaft and then one day a couple hops of the wheels and bang it lets go. Seen slip spline shafts do the same too. Just get an exchange power divider, swap it out and back to work!

I met a women that drove dump truck, we dated when I was home. i owned a beautiful cab over Pete, she wanted to learn to drive tractor trailer. I was leased to a carrier that moved machinery, after six months I went on heavy haul, this happened i the late 1960's and 70' and 80's. the safety director said I can teach, but she can't drive while I'm loaded. She didn't like the idea of empty only. most of my loads were to 10 to 14 wide, with all axles my gross weight up to 160,000 lbs. She wouldn't listen to my telling her what to do. that ended that relationship. I enjoy your videos, wreckers are nice looking well equipped and make a lot of money as you found out. I'll be watching and will catch up on your video's my CB handle was Pull toy,

In almost 20 years of wrenching and driving, I’ve seen busted u joints, power dividers and axle shafts, but this is a first seeing a pinion shaft shear off like that! I’d say if a new power divider is readily available with no issues, a couple days. Tim Gentry made a day project out of one!

Hi Dauminique. NOTHING to be ashamed about. My old vehicle rode a wrecker many times just like others.
When you have an old vehicle, expect any kind of breakdown. Sometimes you run for years without any hiccups. But, we have a phrase--" U work and fix and you fix to work". The top of the broken pinion showed like there was a crack,as it is very dry. Replace the seal for sure and maybe the universal joint (cross ). Do I see cracks at the end of the drive shaft? (welding).
    Don't give up.

OMG!!! I feel like I need to start by saying that I am sorry your truck broke down. But....this video was freaking awesome!!! #1 It never fails that your truck breaks down at the most inconvenient time possible. Usually when you're loaded, blocking traffic, and in the rain or snow!! #2 Taking into consideration that you were not "set up" to film this as you usually do, and then did it all with your phone on the fly is very impressive. #3 When you were laying on the ground under your truck being "dramatic", and then got "stuck" in Cole's truck was cracking me up!!! 😆🤣 Last but not least thank you for the footage of the wrecker hooking to your truck, and Cole's truck getting your trailer. Good stuff!!! 😁

I have been driving for 59&1/2 years and I have never seen that yoke come that way. I thought you handled the situation very well. Even if Bobby has to put in a new power divider I’ll bet you are rolling Wednesday.
    Good luck 👍
