Sure, but it was actually a quintet, Jussi Bjorling, Victoria de Los Angeles and Puccini but without his two the librettists, Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, you'd have missed the best part!
So it sounds like you have no problem with the fact that Pavarotti does NOT sing the ending to this in the harmony the way Puccini wrote it. Ok so they lowered the key at the end. It amazes me how many opera lovers prefer the tenor sing the harmony at the end. I have no problem either way. What DOES drive me nuts is people saying the tenor who sings the tessitura at the end is letting his ego get the best of him. That to me is a load of garbage.
Bravi! Yes, key change so high note was a B. Freni was barely getting up there, so I'm glad our sweet, wonderful, supremely voiced Pavarotti sang it with her! WHAT A VOICE/HEART/SOUL/SINGER! And she is spectacular too! God bless them!
Here's a thought. You know Puccini wrote this so the tenor sang the harmony. How come the harmony has never been REVERSED? If Freni had such difficulty with the B, she could have sang E and Dsharp while Pavarotti sang A Flat and b
They were both 61 years old here! This shows what impeccable training they both had as young singers and how they preserved their voices all through their respective careers. Pity about the screaming match at the end, instead of singing it how Puccini composed it.
After hearing Freni's high B and the struggle she had with it, maybe they should have REVERSED the harmony, Pavarotti sing A flat and B(He was not screaming)and have Freni sing E and D sharp.
hmmm, maybe I'm being picky, but the last high note they sang was not in unison. I think Pavarotti was on pitch, but Freni was slightly flat, and it didn't sound good.
@MasterIsh91 They had the same choir master at the church at which they both began singing in Modena. But no doubt about their vocal abilities at all, but my comment was related to the fact that Pavarotti always wanted ting a top C at the end of the duet on the "Amor", instead of singing a piano A and allowing the soprano to sing a beautiful piano top C, and Freni had such beautiful piano abilities, the way Puccini composed it to be sung. Such a pity that he had to prove himself.
I can watch this over and over and over again
Two voices in perfect harmony. I love singing Mimì thanks to Mirella Freni: her interpretation of this role is still the best!
Omg they'll never be another Pavarotti he is the king and always will be for me
Freni and Pavarotti and Puccini. Was there ever a holier trinity?
No! never!
Sure, but it was actually a quintet, Jussi Bjorling, Victoria de Los Angeles and Puccini but without his two the librettists, Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, you'd have missed the best part!
Yes Tebaldi singing Puccini can never be touched
@@fredoneil7396 Won't argue that one with you Fred 'cause I dare not compare our Vocal Saints. They are all equal in the eyes of God.
The blasphemy
Adesso la tornerete a cantare lassù in Paradiso, addio Mirella! Salutaci Big Luciano
Absolutely moving, touching, and very beautiful. At that time he was 61 years old!
So Beautiful ! Brava MIRELLA FRENI & LUCIANO PAVAROTTI !
A perfect pairing, vocally and in their portrayal of Mini and Rodolfo. They transport us.

I'm captivated.❤
Bravissimi
The best tenor of all times!!!
RIP
Freni and Pavarotti haven the same wet nurse in Modena. It’s was divine

I assume it was our Luciano, who wanted this key down.
@@ym2775 Possibly both, but definitely Pavarotti in some capacity. He sang Che gelida manina a half-step down in his later years.

Magnifique Unique
che bravi!!! indimenticabili!
WOW..I LOVE THEM BOTH THEY ARE TRUELY AMAZING TOGETHER..
i actually like this rendition better than the one in '64- yes their voices are older, but so much fuller and sweeter.
like em both he was 61 here, he just had that resonance that no one else had, a sweet voice.
I totally agree
ahhhh
super duet...:)
TALMENTE BRAVI CHE OGNI VOLTA MI COMMUOVO
Like the both of Them, and they are good together!
simply beautiful.......
Outra grande cantora italiana!
Bravissimo. This is priceless.

Una voce maravigliosa
óne of my favorites. usually listen to the caruso version but this is great
He's 61 here. Insane.
Que hermosas voces
Te amo mi vida ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@MrAndredekock I think they had the same singing teacher, he clearly did a wonderful job!
always the best.
the best amazing
She is 61 here! Unbelievable!
Bravi!
You should here teh performance of Corelli and Freni you' ll never see that much drama or emotion.
They were both 61 years old here! This shows what impeccable training they both had as young singers and how they preserved their voices all through their respective careers. Pity about the screaming match at the end, instead of singing it how Puccini composed it.

Simply amazing!
Très belle musique ! Très bonne interprétation ! (On peut quand même trouver encore mieux !! ) Tempo un pe trop rapide au début !!
ECCEZIONALI!!!!!!
@madisonelectronic Good one indeed!
Ciao Vidoletti Dl Futuro
there's a key change in the middle of it...they don't do high C's in this version.
hmmm, maybe I'm being picky, but the last high note they sang was not in unison. I think Pavarotti was on pitch, but Freni was slightly flat, and it didn't sound good.
She said they had the same wet nurse as babies, and commented that anyone could see who got all the milk. hahahahahahaha!
Nati per essere Rodolfo e Mimì.

Actually, Freni's high C was just a tad flat and Pavarotti's was brilliant.
They went for the high B. It's transposed
Ma quale bocelli. C'è solo un tenore. R.I.P. maestro
Un semitono sotto l'originale
Due diciottenni? Forse alla radio.
This is beautiful but does not any way compare to Renata Tebaldi and Jussi Bjorling . Tebaldi had the greatest vocal instrument in history.
Bjorling!
.....un peu ....
LP looks as if, in that embrace, he is about to eat her as if she were a chicken wing!
Pavarotti was in full on pig mode at this point in his life 👍
