At his best, before his illness, Jose Carreras was the best of the modern tenors, wonderful, strong tenor, great acting. Tere sa Strata here, looked the part of a wan Mimi, with a lovely voice and also fantastic acting., this was wonderful to watch, thanks for posting. Carreras is also my favorite Pagliacci, singing with Renata Scotto.
It's been a while since I listened to this - how could I have forgotten how exquisite these two sound? Carreras is made for this role - handsome, sweet, earnest, with a heartbreakingly beautiful voice.
I am fortunate enough to have this production on DVD. I also have several recordings of la Boheme various media I have two separate recordings on 78 RPM from the early century 1900s 78 RPM from 1930s recording I even have a CD but this is my favorite version of all. There’s just something about Jose Caras and Teresa Stas together that’s magical.
My eyes tear up and emotion grips my throat at the very first notes of this aria. When they begin singing together for the very first time, electricity runs down my spine. It's no wonder this scene is so powerful for me, as the love of my life, who I lost 24 years ago, had just met me when my father, who happened to be visiting from far away, snuck off into the living room and started playing it. Somehow he knew even before I did, that I had met "the one". Sadly, my mother, his wife, would pass away 24 years after they were married. I always recall being around 10 years old and as this record played hearing my Dad say, "A friend told me when you go to see La Boheme, you must bring 2 handkerchiefs: one for your nose, and one for your eyes. How right he was. Happy Father's Day Dad!!!
Ayiiiee, how could she pull away from his lips after hearing them produce the most beautiful sound?! I know it makes sense for the staging, but it must have been difficult for Mimi/Teresa Stratas. Carreras is the best romantic hero, one with whom you really fall in love.
i watch this daily. like religiously. i’m so obsessed with this version

It is incredible that this has so few views. If Carreras was at his peak now he would be more in demand than any of todays stars
Lovely duo. Carreras and Stratas are magnificent.
This is one of my favorite version of this aria. Carreras is just perfect in this role.
You just can't take your eyes off Jose Carreras here, and then there's his voice...
La tua bravura è pari alla tua bellezza! Grande!!!!!!

I share similar sentiment and memories of La Boheme.

My music Appreciation professor made me watch this
And I hope you later thanked her/him for doing so!
"Made" you???? lol.
You were lucky to have a professor that drew your attention thus.
My absolutely favourite performance of this aria. Adorable & top class - singing, casting, all of it - how is this even possible?
God... wasn't Carreras gorgeous back then? And his voice, too.
An incredible combination of talent, beauty, charisma, and pizzazz.
❤
El Do no fue escrito por Puccini y cantó afinado
Con todo respeto, Carreras justito en afinación... Y no hablamos de que el Do del final se lo merienda... No...
