  • Do you struggle with the doctrine of Total Depravity? This doctrine is not something to be feared. Rather, it is a doctrine that is taught throughout the Bible. In Romans chapter three, the Apostle Paul uses scripture from the Old Testament to reveal the full effect of the fall of man.
    In this sermon, Dr. Voddie Baucham explains the four divisions in Romans 3:9-18:
    1. The Universal Nature of Sin
    2. Sin touches every aspect of our being
    3. Sin affects how we live together
    4. There is a sin that we can't see
    Doctrine of Total Depravity: Voddie Baucham
    Romans 3:9-18:
    9 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written:
    “None is righteous, no, not one;
    11 no one understands;
    no one seeks for God.
    12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
    no one does good,
    not even one.”
    13 “Their throat is an open grave;
    they use their tongues to deceive.”
    “The venom of asps is under their lips.”
    14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
    15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
    16 in their paths are ruin and misery,
    17 and the way of peace they have not known.”
    18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

      This series of sermons have been out for some time now, in the description over 7 years. But I am dumbfounded as to why there are such a limited number of “thumbs up” for a message that ultimately so many from history will be wishing through eternity that they had paid heed to this doctrine of truth about our human nature. God helps us to be faithful to preach and teach the Gospel of God in Christ, please.

    I would like to know why God hardens hearts, if we were already born with hard hearts. It doesn’t seem to make sense.

    • @soloadioslagloria6777
      @soloadioslagloria6777 5 месяцев назад

      God does not harden anyone in that sense but, for example, the Bible refers to a state produced by oneself since the truth and justice of God collides with our heart or ours and hits us in the depths of our pride or sin and We inevitably harden our hearts since we reject the truth. God does not have to do anything but only tell the truth because, as it says in Romans, man suppresses the truth. That's why when Paul made the call to worship Jesus the Son of God Crucified for the Gentile world, this was an abominable insult and they themselves hardened their hearts upon hearing those words, just like the Jews who stoned Stephen, he told them the truth and they resisted the Spirit. I hope this gives clarity.

    I want Voddie to marry my wife and I, and I'm not even in a relationship yet lol. I love this man and all that he has given to me. I know it all ultimately comes from God, but I'm just happy God has chosen a man like Voddie who also has a great sense of humor and understands the great nuances of how people really act. One example "when people come over with their STUFF and I'm not talking about suitcases". He's so relatable. Lastly, I just love seeing the joy on people's faces because I've given them something that I wouldn't have years ago before God guided me to Voddie and his (His) teachings. I feel I've matured spiritually by 50 years. I can't believe just HOW MUCH I didn't know about myself and what I ought to be. THANK YOU, from every crevice of my heart, Voddie as well as your family and all the churches that welcome your voice.

    Total depravity? Didn’t Jesus say even sinners give good gifts to their children? Abimelech king of the Philistines could say to Isaac “I have done you nothing but good” Genesis 26:29.
    We are told to do good. Pro_2:20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. Don’t we have the right of choice? Joshua said “choose you this day whom you will serve, as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD, Joshua 24:14. God through Isaiah said “Isa 1:18a Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD" How can one reason with someone who don’t have a choice?

      In the same way that an arachnophobe says "I could never touch a spider", a sinful and unregenerate man cannot please God. The person who is afraid of spiders is perfectly capable of actually touching the spider, having all of the necessary faculties (fingers, eyes, hands, arms, etc.) but because of their disposition, the sheer fear and hatred of spiders that they have, it is perfectly true that they quite literally could not be persuaded to ever touch a spider. The choices are actually there for both examples. Man has all of the necessary faculties (a mind, soul, etc.) to come to a trusting faith in Christ as the savior from the holy and righteous judge. However, because the unregenerate man is actively hostile towards God, cannot submit to His law(Romans 8), and doesn't want God (Romans 3), he is therefore unable to choose God unless He supernaturally bestows new life. The choices are there, but because of our natures we will NEVER willingly bend the knee until He gifts us repentance and faith.

    Let me address what nobody has the courage to address. Firstly, let me preface this complaint with the body. God's people are ONE body and Paul has said nobody who is a part of the body is insignificant. The toe is just as important to the brain. Rom 12:5-6 " In the same way, even though we are many people, we are one body in the Messiah [Or Christ] and individual parts connected to each other. We have different gifts based on the grace that was given to us. So if your gift is prophecy, use your gift [Lit. If prophecy] in proportion to your faith. "
    That means, if the toe has say, discernment, and brings his complaint to another, then the body needs to check it out. I may not be the toe, but I am not the only person concerned about this issue either. Let's just say many toes are complaining. Thus, a healthy body requires the ears to perk up so it can make it to the brain. I an others have a complaint and the body needs to listen. Or how about Test All Things? Does that have any standing anymore?
    If and when you teach the Bible, you best make sure the person you quote from is not controversial. Why expose a member of the body to problems? Voddie is using John Piper as a source. Fine. But has Voddie read the book by Piper called Future Grace? In which (ill paraphrase), Piper says o mpg 206 that a faith that looks back to Christ's death and resurrection is not sufficient. It requires more. Therefore, if Piper has this issue then it makes sense other areas of justification would develop into more problems.
    I have complained and complained and the little toe has received nothing but harsh words from other parts of the body. The doctrine of justification has no room for requiring more to establish how it plays out. As one can tell by the name of the book Future Grace, Piper's view of justification requires YOU as part of the equation. Do NOT take my word for it, find the book and read it yourself. I have discovered I was not alone in my assessment of Piper and found that Timothy Kaufman has also addressed the issue, but again, he has not received the body as an audience, only disdain.
    Shame on all of you who sit back comfortably as the body is hurting and you all enjoy your introduction to Biblical deviations. Does it make Voddie a heretic? Certainly not, but it does make him responsible for his lack of discernment.
