Just goes to show how Toho respects the property. If it were any company, Godzilla would have been discontinued the moment a film flops. I know Godzilla has been through some questionable changes but those are mostly because they want to make him more marketable which sounds good at first but will blow up in their face after.

This movie had one of the oddest deliveries of a line. When the Americans blast pre-mutated Godzilla and the commander says, "Take that, you dinosaur." Like he was trying to deliver a one liner but it just didn't happen.

Like Biollante really didn't appreciate this movie when I first saw it; due to my uncle getting the bootleg without subtitles. When I saw it again 6 year later it became one of my favorites in the franchise. Frankly in my opinion, this movie is the best representation of Godzilla's personality. By the way I met Robert Scott Field, Megumi Odaka and Kenpachiro Satsuma at G-Fest last year.

While I've seen the movie already and I do plan on seeing it again here's my reveiw summarized:
The time travel plot was awesome in concept, but needlessly complicated in execution, as it burrows terminator and back to the future and Godzilla all into a convoluted narrative mess filled with plot holes and illogical plot progressions. Nonetheless, it delivers on the kaiju action and it's exploration of Godzilla's origins. Give it a 6/10.

This is my fourth favorite film in the series. Utterly ridiculous plot, but still engaging nonetheless. Great special effects, decent characters, and some amazing story and character moments! I swear, the final standoff between Godzilla and Mr. Shindo never fails to make me tear up. It’s that emotionally affecting for me. The monster designs look at their very best in the series, the action scenes are awesome, and the score is absolutely amazing! The time travel plot never really bothered me much because I’ve watched way too much Doctor Who for time travel inconsistencies to bother me, lol.
Also this movie has M11. Immediate 10/10.

I remember it was the final fight that made me realize how much Godzilla uses his atomic ray or really how beam spamming it is. I mean at least the first fight had a mix of melee thrown in. I also give Biollante a pass since that first got Godzilla spamming and is a favorite and Super Mechagodzilla since they made clear Heisei Mechagodzilla is uesless at melee.

I remember CNN reported a story about this film. There was a complaint that the film was anti-American because of the Americans in the time travel sequence appeared comedic with an actor screaming the line, “A DINOSAUR! A GIGANTIC DINOSAUR! AND IT’S ATTACKING OUR BOOOYYYSSS!”
Godzilla kills the American force in short order.
Robert Scott Field was very memorable as M-11. The scene as he is running after Emi and Terasawa and keeping a straight face reminded me of Woody from Toy Story.
The scene with Shindo and Godzilla meeting again was powerfully classic.

Your take on Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is way more charitable than mine.
Between the campier tone, the HUGE step backwards in terms of special effects and direction, the obnoxious nationalism and sugar coating of Japan's WWII military culture, and dusting off a kaiju antagonist that should have stayed in the Showa era, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah marks the point where Toho (once again) steered the series away from a more serious tone and towards to the trashier end of the spectrum, but without going far enough for it to be dumb fun.

This movie is far from perfect and has got serious problems, but I still enjoy it. Godzilla's characterization is great stuff, it's got some good monster acting, and it features one of Yoshio Tsuchiya's finest acting performances. I also want to say Anna Nakagawa was a very talented actress. She was very good in Kiyoshi Kurosawa's crime film Cure (1997).

This is actually my favorite of the Heisei era. Destoroyah makes an extremely close second but this is my favorite for now. This is still my favorite Godzilla design in the entire franchise and this is the 3rd best Ghidorah design in the franchise. The special effects are also some of the best of the Heisei era and the soundtrack is also one of the best in the series and it fits the monsters weight and strength. Now the fights are pretty short but explosive and brutal and the first fight is one of the best of the series. Especially the moment where Godzilla blasts off Ghidorah's middle head off. And we can't forget how awesome Mecha King Ghidorah looks. The human characters and plots are also better than your average Godzilla film. If there are any problems, its that I am not a fan of Ghidorah orgin and the special effects can look kinda bad a few times. These are small problems though and when the film does so much right, you won't even care about the problems. I will give this film a 9.3/10

The whole time travel conundrum in this film nigh single handedly ravaged the rest of the heisei timeline. Sure some good scenes came from the:going back in time, but the ones that did could have been accomplished with a flashback or two. Lovely king ghidorah design though he’s nerfed the first fight was done very well. And though mechakingghidorah was similarly awesome the limitations of this suit make for one of the lesser fights of the series in my opinion. Despite all its flaws I do enjoy it greatly for how goofy it can be as well as a few of the serious moments.

  • @tracyndiyob162

i didn't really find the time travel that hard to see(definitely complicated and could've explained things like there being 2 godzillasaurus: the heisei and the one that became 1954.) but did get confused thinking they erased the heisei godzilla instead of just putting him away from the blast radius.
that aside i love this movie with the focus on godzilla's relationship with humanity showing the heisei godzilla feeling betrayed when left behind as a surprisingly docile dinosaur(was surprised he just knocked trees onto the u.s army protecting the soldiers instead of outright eating them.) and angered by the attacks that nearly killed him(his attack on tokyo after defeating ghidorah is pretty much him taking his anger out on tokyo for deserting him/that hesitation when he kills shindo still gets me with him giving a painless death or humanity showing when almost too blinded with rage.) ,enjoyed the main characters especially emi(wish she appeared again) & m 11(basically the closest to the terminator in a godzilla movie.:3)and while not a fan of the dorats do like mecha king ghidorah(would love if he came back in monsterverse using mechagodzilla/kevin's head.).

I am watching through the entire series, the Showa Era have some good movies (like the OG) but a lot of them were hard to get through. Been looking forward to the Heisei Era, I'd heard great things and loved the previous two movies and was highly anticipating this one as King Ghidorah is Godzilla's greatest foe but man, this movie did not do it for me... The plot is an absolute mess, there is some ridiculous moments that would fit the Showa Era better, throughout and i just hate what they did with Godzilla, making him the big bad and Ghidorah the under dog. About the plot, lets go back in time and stop Godzilla from happening, return to the present and some how everyone still know about Godzilla even though he was prevented, then in comes KD, a big threat so lets make Godzilla who from the word go is somehow at the top of his game after literally just being made (why was in still at the bottom of the ocean if he didn't exist??) and kills KD with ease... THEN Godzilla is the big threat so yeah, lets bring back KD to stop him... WTF is going on??? 🤣🤦‍♂️
So looking forward to MechaGhidorah but man, didnt like what they did with this movie at all, huge disappointment. Just not what i was expecting. Need a 2nd viewing

It's a little confusing, but the reason why everyone remembered Godzilla (and why the G-Force division of the army was around), was because everything *still* happened. The Japanese and the Futurians both *thought* that because of the way time travel worked, that the Godzillasaurus being moved from that spot to another would mean he'd never be irradiated, and upon seeing Ghidorah, they all thought he was their new kaiju problem; they neglected the hubris of humanity, as nuclear bomb tests were still being done in multiple areas. Godzilla still becomes Godzilla but his transformation is years later, and he's irradiated with a stronger dose of nuclear radiation that made him stronger and larger. The 1984 incident and Godzilla's fight with Biollante still happened (which is why Biollante is mentioned in the Spacegodzilla film), and Godzilla recovered to the ocean to heal up after that fight. The Japanese, thinking that he still wasn't Godzilla due to the hijinks of time travel, sent that nuclear sub, which inadvertently made him even *stronger,* as because he still hadn't reappeared on the surface yet, they wrongfully assumed he wasn't Godzilla yet. The twist was, that he *was* already Godzilla when they sent the sub, which showed that no matter what they did with the Godzillasaurus, he was destined to become Godzilla.
And of course, this Godzilla wasn't even the first 1954 Godzilla who originally attacked Japan, so they still would have remembered a Godzilla existed in some way.

I pretty much always hate time travel in any film because it often leads to plot holes or too many plot headaches. That's one of the sticking points about this one for me......and I am aware that there is a video that fully and thoroughly explains exactly what happens with the time travel in this film....I still don't care for it.
I wish they had gone with another alien plot-line. But still, this was the film that determined the switch into the 'very colorful laser light show' battles of the 90s Heisei films...and those are always visually engaging to watch.

Their is another video on youtube by Wikizilla explaining the time travel plot. It actually makes sense after watching that video. They supposedly never actually get rid of Godzilla after all. Which has something to do with there being two Godzilla's I believe. I can't remember. I'll have to go watch it again. lol. But yeah the only thing I didn't like about this movie were the cheesy effects surrounding some of M11's action scenes, and the stiff Ghidorah prop. lol.

Sure the plot is convoluted but so is practically every sci-fi story dealing with time travel. Otherwise G vs KG is arguably the highpoint of the Heisei series and among the most multilayered kaiju eiga.

*EDIT*--Come to think of it, I might enjoy this film more if I had a copy without the awful American voiceovers, that's probably the worst thing about it.
Probably my least favored film in the series, the time travel and goofy androids really ruined it for me. I do love the origin story for Godzilla and that entire plot was beautiful but the fantastical plot just dragged on and got weirder.
When King Ghidorah finally shows up, then the film gets better, ignoring the comical Android fight on the UFO the rest of the film is very enjoyable. Mecha-King Ghidorah was a great addition and really what the film needed as just having a normal G vs KG had been done before so it was refreshing.

@Up From The Depths Can you or anyone else here tell me what the alleged time travel plot holes are? I honestly don't know what they could be. All I do know is that 1) they said that 2 of the same person couldn't be in the same place at the same time w/out creating a time paradox (which they didn't do AFAICT), 2) they went back to 1944 to teleport Godzillasaurus & drop off the Dorats, leading to the disappearance of the old Godzilla & appearance of KG in 1992, & 3) after the new Godzilla beat up KG in 1992, they went to 2204 to fix up KG & bring Mecha KG to 1992. What am I missing?

If they stopped Godzilla's "birth" in 1944 why the people of 1992 knew he was missing?

    • @JerkyD
      @JerkyD 5 лет назад

Remember when the futurians told the Government & main characters their plan? After teleporting Godzillasaurus & dropping off the Dorats in 1944, they went to the time in 1992 after they had told said characters their plan. It's similar to when Superman was accidentaly sent to an apocalyptic future. When Savage sent Superman back to stop the apocalypse-causing problem, Savage clearly remembered what happened even after the future changed accordingly ("Thank you, my friend"): ruclips.net/video/UraRLx8u1zs/видео.html

@@gerardo9661 wasnt it that they thought the godzillasaurus was the 54 godzilla and put him in the bottom of the ocean to kill him, then the 54 godzilla came and went and it was revealed that the godzillasaurus was actually the heisei godzilla mutated by castle bravo so i guess it was destined for the futurians to create the 2nd godzilla

Am I missing something? I was so excited to see this movie for the first time recently because of all of the hype but I just couldn't enjoy it. It's not that I don't understand the time travel stuff or just don't like heavy Sci-fi, as a matter of fact that's my favorite genre. I just couldn't understand why the main characters specifically were chosen for the mission, or why the Japanese woman went along with the deception despite clearly disagreeing with it. I also did not like the incest vibes I got at the very end or how weak Mecha King Ghidorah was. I should clarify that I loved the Kaiju stuff, special effects, and had to watch the English Dub. But I don't think the original Japanese version will magically fix all of the plot issues I have with it. I saw Godzilla vs Mothra right after and it was SO much better. Love Battra.

Shindo got the worst death of ANYONE in any of the films. Atomic Breath point blank as he looked straight into the proverbial soul of the Big G. No one, person or monster, got it as bad as he did.
Also, this is the movie with Major Speilberg.

My problem with this film is ghidorah. Nice design. But his origins are just....no and he is weak asf in this film. Even his mecha version is weak. In the showa films it took 3 monsters to even slightly defeat him and 4 monsters to kill him to show how powerful he is. That isn't here. Ghidorah only puts up a small challenge before being blasted with a nuclear pulse and getting his head and wing blown up. And mecha ghidorah with still vurable as the previous ghidorah and with the metal armor will not help because godzilla atomic breath burns metal so the made him more vulnerable and I really don't think the middle head beam they created could be as powerful as the anti gravity beams and he is easily defeated by being blasted in the chest. What a disappointment

    • @SpScarletSpider
      @SpScarletSpider 3 года назад +1

A lot of the reason why Ghidorah is weaker is because he becomes Ghidorah in 1954, whereas pushing back Godzilla's transformation inadvertently made him stronger than he was before. Had Ghidorah's birth been later on, he'd have defeated Godzilla had they left the Godzillasaurus in place. Also, Mecha-King Ghidorah was really just a Hail Mary play at that point. His main job was to get Godzilla away from Japan, and in that, he succeeded.
