Regardless of which controller you use, if you want to move away from being a beginner, you need to change this setting - ruclips.net/video/hLB9RP015gA/видео.html
Is the controller and drone self contained. As in if the power grid goes down ; as long as I am able to charge the drone and controller will all the functions still work?
I was quite impressed with the text in the water effect. Very cool and realistic looking.
Thank you
A main issue is that a shade cannot be attached to the new RC . At noon, the sunshine comes from the top, but you have to hold it horizontally and watch from the top because the antenna angle cannot be changed unlike RC pro. N1 controller does not have this issue because you watch it with a tilted angle.
Great video! Just found your channel. Thanks for your test!
Awesome. Thanks so much Scott 👍
Great video. It would be good to see if you can then now compare that with a mini 2
Good video and I'm loving the music!
Nice one Malcolm. Thank you.
Love your tracking Effects :D
Thank you! Cheers! Somebody actually noticed :P
I work in VFX ...I see if someone puts visual effort in something :D
🙏
Can you teach how to put that text on water? Thnks! that's sweet!
This range test is entertaining for some reason. Love your style!👍 Both are reliable controllers in my opinion but I just find that having a built-in screen is much more convenient. I'm going with the Mini 3 Pro with the new DJI controller.
Entertaining for some reason? I’ll take it 🙏😀 Thank you. Zero regrets on my side with mini 3 pro. Happy flying.
Can you fly the controller with the Built-in screen using map view only? If so does it show roads and Embodies of water and such. Can't seem to get this answered anywhere...
Absolutely correct:) got mine last week and it works very well
Great to hear! Enjoy
Subscribed because you get right into the point,
Awesome. Thanks Emilio
I own a Mini 2 so I’ll probably just stick with my old controller but the new DJI RC for the Mini 3 Pro does look very appealing to me. Can’t say for sure that I won’t cave in.😅
Hey Timmy. It just makes life that bit more convenient. 🙏 thanks for watching
for me the best is the Dji RC-N1 which allows you to use third-party software on your phone and to carry out planned flights especially for the purpose of photogrammetric surveys. the Dji RC Pro has many more limitations, and the Dji Fly Waypoint application is still far behind the needs of professionals in this area.
I’m with you. I have to keep mine in line of sight unaided so I can’t go 12 km anyway.
I've flown my Mini 3 about 1.2km away while crouched down in a concrete parking complex. I got a few video stutters here and there, and the occasional Weak Signal warning, but the drone was still perfectly visible. Also well beyond visual line of sight, which you shouldn't do either.
each to their own but I personally never fly more than VLOS, the M3 pro is the best Drone on the market with a fantastic smart controller and a Drone that is under 249g
Hey David, yep. Totally agree. How’s it going so far with the mini 3 pro?
Nice video. Have you tried the test over land?
Hey Greg, haven't had any performance issues over land, but haven't tested side by side like in this video!
Did DJI make a design mistake, maybe, but 300F high and 900F distance is fine for me. I agree with you! I love the convince of the RC.
Hey Peter. No idea but it suits me. Yeah, super convenient
You were slightly higher on the second flight so that might explain the small advantage... yet - i got the controller without the screen because I have a cell phone with a bright image and I like to watch the preview footage on it - so why buy another display. Connecting is really no issue.
Great video sr
Thank you Lució 🙏
Hello Vic Nice video, here in Brazil things are not different, bad signal too, we hope to update the firmware and we will see. lose the signal and cause an accident did DJI think of that,
Thank you. Worse case scenario if the drone loses signal you can set it up to RTH right?
BVLOS is the main limitation. Just how far can you fly before you can’t see the Mini 3, especially with a backdrop of trees, or other complex backgrounds? That is one of the reasons that I also fly an Inspire - I can see it along way off.
Why i can control the drone only my phone short range or start active track, Carry a heavy controller ?
I once had up a bar down a bar 🍸 - after a few cycles of that the rest is all a blur.
Vic Barry, always first with the important topics !! Great explanation and I think IFI has some stranger things going on around it :-)
😜 cheers bud
Thank you for sharing your excellent work… there is a slight difference in both flies. The first with the RC was at 3,8 mts Height…up to 500->t00 mts distance while the second with RC-N was at 7-> 8 mts….That small difference in height…to me, makes the difference in this test
Hey there, yeah fair point. But given it's more or less direct, I don't think it's a huge issue, but that's me! Point taken.
Do you know if any of them (RC or RC-N1) can screen mirror (cast) to a TV or laptop?
Hi Brent, not directly. I guess you could mirror your phone screen depending on the phone but not sure how well that would work
Great video, you're a brave man flying that close to the water with the history of DJI's mini drones suddenly diving into the water. I am hearing of a lot of signal strength issues, but I'm chilled about it, by the time I get one delivered, a firmware update should fix it. DJI are usually great at sorting issues and adding features. 👍
Ha. Cheers. To be honest after a few hours of flying with the rc pro I haven’t experienced anything like some of the comments are saying.
What’s your delivery date looking like?
@@VicBarry The first week of June, apparently, it was mid June last night lol. I'll give it a proper test up in Wicklow
Ouch. Did you order it on launch day?
@@VicBarry No, I didn't want to be a beta tester for weeks without ND filters
Ha. Fair point. I know freewelll have some ND filters coming really soon. The DJI ones seem to be bit out
The only issue I see with the two is not the range but something more to be concerned about is the third party apps. With the regular controller you’ll be able to use third party apps once the SDK is released for mini 3 on the other hand not sure if you’ll be allowed to do the same on the new controller.
Hey Amit, yeah that's a fair point. Personally, not too sure I'd be bothered about other apps? What do you think? Is it worth it if an SDK is released?
@@VicBarry Honestly, for me, it'll make a huge difference. I have used Mini 2 with dronelink and that app just opens a whole new potential.
Really? Hhhmmm. When you say so much more potential what’s the big stand out?
@@VicBarry You can create a mission, wherein you can tell the drone to fly to x altitude, rotate at x angle, start recording and follow the desired path while recording. You can plan that on your laptop, review it in drone view on your laptop. Later you go start that mission from their mobile app and drone will do exactly what you planned on your laptop. Best part it’ll let you know how many batteries will be required to complete the mission. So in case 2 batteries are required it’ll automatically stop at one point, will return to home point for another battery and resume from where it stopped. So all in all you can automate everything. Just like auto pilot.
Your gonnna have to wait like 2 years for that
Not a major difference with the controller that would really be a big deal for me. I’ve been eyeing on that new controller ‘cause I find it much more easy to use. Excited to fly the Mini 3 Pro with it. Thanks for the awesome content!
Hey there. Totally agree. If it works for you then it works for you 🙏🔥 Enjoy.
For travelers can you post the weight of each? DJI doesn't list the weight of RC. If I can save some weight I'd rather have the lighter remote.
The DJI Flymore bag isn't great for controllers as they can move about in the bag. But here's a new case that's rather epic! ruclips.net/video/S5UtHmWqzGQ/видео.html
You use different heights :(
That's not the way to compare
I just ordered a Mini 2 to replace my Mini SE because the Mini 2 is said to get over twice the signal distance. My SE gets 1100 to 1200 meters.....did I just waste money ordering the Mini 2 as you got less range with these as i did with my SE?
no contest here. When you use your phone with the older controller in the warm sun your screen will get darker and darker until it may go completely black. This will not and does not happen with the built in screen. Don't get wrapped up about range. You are not flying with a black screen.
I think a day will come when using a phone with a drone will be nonexistent. RC for me.
I think we have more to learn about the new RC, personally I've been a little disappointed in the Mini 3 signal. I put it side by side with my original Mavic Mini over the same terrain, height etc and the original Mini is consistently beating it.
Hey Bernard, how much of a difference are we talking?
@@VicBarry North (Mini - 252 meters. Mini 3 Pro - 420 meters)
South (Mini - 1280 meters, Mini 3 Pro - 890 meters RTH, feed cut off at 800 meters) - this area is downhill where I get best range
East (Mini - 455 meters, Mini 3 Pro - 355 meters)
West (Mini - 435 meters, Mini 3 Pro - 350 meters)
Both flown at 30 meters altitude over same flightpath and same weather conditions in a rural area. Original Mini won 3 of the 4 tests.
@@bernardmccabe463 thanks for the reply Bernard. That’s a bit disappointing. Yet to experience anything like that. I just wonder is there a dodgy(ish) batch of controllers out there. I get that it’s travelling around in a good few comments online but compared to the sales volume I’d imagine it’s small 🤔
Ask for a full refund on mini 3 pro, specs are not true, they are fake! I did it !!
for me not sure.. much better the range of mini 3 whit RC compared to my old mini. im ln italy
Everyone was blaming the Mavic AIR 1 ( a great Drone until today! ) ...(it can do 4K D-Cinelike in all modes + has pictured control!!!) because it could not go more than 1500m away :D:D:D ... i never had problems with it.
Hey there, ha! Absolutely!!! Some folks will never be happy
RC boot up time is a bit slow and it lens sometime have a defective with foggy.
Took my Mini 3 out yesterday for its first flight. I was sadly disappointed in the new RC range and drop outs. I love the convenience with the screen, nicer to hold and looks better all round in my opinion. BUT the range is the same if not slightly worse…. The reason I went for the Mini 3 was for it to be better, not the same or worse! Not massively impressed so far. £450 for my mini 2 I sold, £1050 for the Mini 3 and flymore and not seeing much extra value 😢
I am keeping my mini 2 despite just bought the new mini 3 due to this RC range issue
What’s the point of distance flying? Because it is fun. Why do drone manufacturers make products that go miles and miles? Because many people like it. Most just don’t talk about it on social media.
1km vs 4km with old rc build drones. Lower rez transmission go alot further
Whatever about the controllers and the distance, there is NO DENYING who good the video is out of the DJI Mini 3 Pro! Especially when you make it CINEMATIC!! ruclips.net/video/31BXD7cBIVk/видео.html
Problem is if I pak my mavic air 2, mini 3 pro, mavic 3 I only want to lug one controller around and prefably one than can memorize more than one pairing and set of parameter settings at a time, the only solution is to just take the mavic air 2/mini 2 controller. The newest controllers should cover the previous models given that the mavic sir 2 controller covers the newer ones too. I guess greed for money forces this upon us. Best solution is one bright phone/tablet to go with the older controller in my case.
Smart controler is way better option, I had the p3p and p4p and missed the wheel to adjust exposure, also the c1 and c2 costumizable buttons are a must...
Hey Diogo, thanks for that. How are you finding the Mini 3 pro?
@@VicBarry It's almost on par with my p4p, I'm really impressed with the quality, off course it doesn't handle high winds like a heavier drone but overall I's well worth the money difference compared to the mini 2, gimbal is much stronger, doing panning shots the horizon keeps leveled, flying in sport I can point the camera in any direction unlike with the mini 2, and the 10bit cinelike is a must for video.... Still haven't upgraded to the latest firmware and software but have been seeing that overall it gets even better...
Awesome stuff. New firmware has one or two nice little additions in the customize buttons section which is really useful.
Cheapest option is...
Buy drone without remote.
Buy used N1 remote
30 w charger
Get the battery plus
Minipro remote is overrated
Combo kit is inadequate and useless.
Can I use this smart controller for mavic air 2s
Afraid not. That “might” change in the future though
I cant use my mini 2 controller with the mini 3. It will connect to show the camera view on screen but then gives me a warning that I could get a fly away. And I can only connect it 5 times 🤔 dji dont seem very helpful with this issue.
Probably one of the worst things about the DJI mini 3 pro is the stupid gimbal cover. Here’s the correct way to get it on ruclips.net/video/33bBEqZY_7Q/видео.html and a whole bunch of must know tips and tricks too ❤🎉
Can you plug in an iPhone into the pro RC? I’m always weary of 3rd party support with the pro controllers. If one could plug in an iPhone and run 3rd party apps then I’d be more inclined to pull the trigger on the pro.
Hey, nope. Afraid you can't plug the phone directly into the controller. Maybe sometime in the future?
You can't do a side by side comparison without exactly the same variables besides 1.
Make a new video with the controllers on a tripod and rise to the exact same height (I would suggest > 25m at this location) and push forward never correcting until you lose connection or if you want to be a VLOS guy until one or the other drops some bars.
Also try to fly out around the same time as weather conditions can affect range
My experience….the screen controller does work over quite a long distance….not as good as other DJI drones though.
Hey mate, cheers for the comment. So far so good for me :)
Ordering a m3 pro and this was the video i needed to order the standard controller…. Just kidding the One with the build in screen
😂
So which one do you actually prefer?
Hi. For me, the rc remote (with the screen) it’s just more convenient. What do you prefer?
I use the DJI RC remote with the Mini 3 with far different results
Hey there. Who far is far different results Tone?
@@VicBarry Got around 4500m with the Mini 2 using standard remote and similar results with the Mini 3 with DJI RC remote. Cheers from Australia 👍
🙏🔥
yes the RC with screen is better for me like who cares about thos range thing.. as long as in only need to shoot at the area close at my position, i want my drone to fly that can see with my naked eye for SAFETY of my drone... also follow the law
Good range test but I don’t believe that’s why they built the new one for. It’s just to have a bigger display an rather than using your phone. I’d rather a built in monitor than have to worry about my phone battery
The only point who disapoint me is the brightness of the new DJI RC...i'm going to have a One plus 9 pro and the brightness is much more brightness : 700 nits for new RC Against 1000 nits for One plus 9 pro
Hey Lucas, thanks for the comment. Keep in mind the brightness on the DJI rc is a constant brightness so it’ll always be 700nits. Majority of phones do not have a constant brightness so the phone will dim the screen to keep the temperature down in the phone. Every phone is different but it could well drop below the 700nits
@@VicBarry Oh thank you, your comment will help me in my decision, I didn't knew that
It's because your shoes have rubber soles, if you take your shoes & socks off while flying you get twice as far, Watch your toes on landing though.
You’re flying way low. If you increase your height, you will get more range. Also, the altitude on the old remote controller test is a Lilly’s bit higher than the altitude with the new controller test.
That’s correct, that was my observation too, the old controller was at about 7+meters high, when the new one at about 5m mark. Why not use an open environment with no peers or obstacles which may impact one controller and not the second as the path can’t be identical, also keep the same speed and altitude and weather conditions (as close as possible) and battery level and you have yourself a way more accurate comparison test and you can then draw conclusions. My opinion. Not saying that the final result will be different from how you conducted yours but in general the least amount or variables or variations between tests the more accurate the experiment is. Maybe those 2 meters altitude made all the difference.

Love the pro version, you can whip it out and get it up will little or no fuss and at my age the length is not an issue. ;)
I love your video but I really Rather Use my ipad Mini I like to do outside Sound recording which I can't do with the new controller it has no microphone And I don't want to downside my screen From 8.3 To 5.5 And Regarding the antennas All your high end controllers have antennas On top Extended Antennas Always have better range then Built-in antennas If it wasn't true every controller Wouldn't have Antennas On top I fly rc Jets and planes All spectrum radios Has an antenna Even your goggle Has outside Antennas Regarding the RC controller some people are adding outside Antenna's Because of the range issues If the RC controller had a 6.5 screen And Antennas and a microphone I might have Went that route But I'm not a big fan of android But again I love your video take care
Very easy with a hack to get 12km from your drone.. just follow it in the car 😁
I think the test prior were done in urban environment. My opinion the rc pro controller should have better range than the rc n1 after it is a upgrade. Why would you waste your money for the same range.
Hey there. Yeah that’s a fair point. But the better video quality (10 but, 4k 60) faster lens etc I feel it’s worth the upgrade. That’s IMO. Each to their own and all that. Range doesn’t bother me really to be honest.
The luxury is the built in screen not the range my dude
didn't wanna spoil the 420 likes but I have to
First:
You are using the DJI RC, not the RC Pro!
Second:
You should have a look at the users manual to see how to "align" the DJI RC...
Yep. Messed up that real good.
I scared of investing in a Drone. Are they hard to fly? Do you just buy one and hope?
Simple to fly, been flying for a while
Hey Clayton, to be honest as long as you’ve got the extra assurance they’re pretty easy to fly. I’ll admit when I first started flying I was really nervous but after a few flights you get used to it real quick. They’re soooo much fun
I am throwing out the DJI RC.... I had it bound with my MAVIC 3 after it got the update to be bound to the DJI RC and DJI Customer service is blaming me the pilot.... I have had flights with observers that let me get over 2.7 km from myself with potential obstacles in the way of the signal. and with the DJI RC I got less than 570 Meters and the DJI RC dropped connection and video transmission, I went blind as the POC and the drone crashed. I am being blamed because the flight data supposedly shows the drone was responsive even though I had no way of controlling it. Now I am being told that it isn't qualified for Dji Care refresh plan and I am on the hook for another $2K drone?! I have also had the same range issues with the Mini 3 Pro compared to the controller that came with the Mavic 3's box.
no, but in which country do drone pilots who want to travel tens of kilometers with their drone live. With us in Canada, you always have to see where your drone is! excuse the translation!!! Merci 🎥🎥🎥
Totally agree Denis!
I agree with you mate, not a lot of difference in the controllers, only when you access FCC mode do you really get a difference. Just a little thing, nice vid, but the controller is just the RC, the RC pro is its big (expensive, but awesome) brother. Cheers for the vid.
Cheers! Absolutely, and yeah, TOTALLY aware about the RC Pro - my bad
I flew over a lake in my last video with the rc control and i went out to about 700-800 meters ( can’t check it while writing here 😂) and i could have gone a lot further.
Awesome. What do you think of the mini 3 pro so far?
Really 265m and you think it's okay to get a warning message? That is clearly wrong on so many levels and you just keep going. When you fly any other drone in your are do you get warning messages ⚠️ at 265m ? Just wondering gig DJI send you the drone to test?
600m is impressive. Iv found that if I go out to about 300m I get signal loss. And VLOS for me is around 100m. With my mini 3pro and RC with screen. Can you get external antenna to boost the signal?
CE or FCC country ?
Hey Gary, CE
Yep. Don't think I would buy a new DJI drone if I lived in a CE country. It's my understanding the controller knows where you're at geographically and adjust the transmission output accordingly. Unless of course you don't care about range that much
So it's not as easy to break the law with the RC Pro flying outside of your visual line of sight !! I see no problem here ?
You can use spotters, so you can actually fly it out of your own line of sight so long as your spotters can see it. Also, range is a means of testing antenna performance. If it's got poor range, it's got poor antenna performance.
@@DD-co1zn I didn't know you can use spotters, good to know, thanks 😊
Not the RC pro but DJI RC
Yep. I messed that one up good 😅
@@VicBarry hahaha ok
These tests are a waste of time as I thought your max flight distance was 500 meters, so if you still got full signal strength at 500 meters then no need to worry.
I did 3000m with the controller so let’s call it bullshit
If you flew the drone higher you coulda gotten wayyy further
Poor very poor RC distance on a Mini 3 Pro CE version whith both RC CE version is bullshit
Hey Pedro, thanks for the comment. I’ve yet to have an issue that’s been problematic for me. What are you doing with the drone that’s a problem with the distance?
Bulkaka.
If you want to use 3rd party software there is only one choice.
Great work. But... say it with me: DJI RC. RC-N1. RC Pro.
All different. RC Pro cost me more than this drone AND a separate Fly More Kit. More than this drone and the Fly More Kit PLUS, with 47 minute batteries. 👌 To be fair it took me a week to remember just what the hell DJI was calling the new scaled down controller. It's the RC. Just RC. Comes with the Mini 3 PRO, but it's the RC, not RC PRO. Got it? Good. Spread the word. Mixed results out there. I will sell it, when and IF DJI makes Mini 3 Pro compatible with RC Pro. Will it ever happen? Your guess is as good as mine. Probably better. Just get the name right! Or don't. It's not really important 😕
Your too low
🤮🤮🤮
