Olivia usually sings her songs different each time she sings live, which I love. Kind of let’s the artist continue to try out different styles even after the song is done

I think it also helps the artist from getting bored of the song
i think for this version she kept it lower in volume than the studio version because of the intimate setting & piano. i believe once she performs it on tour or at festivals she’ll definitely sing with higher volume!
This live version is in the same key as the studio version. Do you mean you think Olivia will sing with more volume on the tour and not as intimate?

A lot of people claim her voice cracks make her a bad singer, but they always sound so clearly intentional to me.
Exactly. It's like saying Alanis Morrissette or Avril Lavigne can't sing because of the intentional craking of her voices... It's a STYLE of singing.

and the fact she has good lyrics definitely helps too! it's easier to sell the emotions of the song when the words you're saying are actually meaningful
I was most curious to see how she would breathe throughout the song, in particular how in the produced version "as you sunk your teeth into meeeeeeeeeeooohhhhh". I actually love how she handled it.

@@tristanparedes I'm coming back to singing after 10+ years focussing on classical flute and breathing is the thing I am struggling with most, so this was really interesting!
I was also curious how she would breathe in live performances. I'm curious to see if she'll do a live performance closer to the produced version as well, not just piano, even though I'm obsessed with this.
I was thinking that the reason she's able to pull off "talkie" sections in her songs might have to do with her being an actress tbh. She's very good at getting the proper emotions across, and I think it really helps that she's an actress in a lot of situations.

I agree that she might not be going that loud because the only instruments there is the piano, In the recorded song there are a lot more instruments which means more noise to cover up her voice if she did as loud as she did in the recorded version with just the piano it would be ear busting
Her voice is truly enchanting. And the way she’s able to make so many slight changes to alter the sound of the song is pure art.

i for sure prefer the live version over the produced one but i usually always prefer a live version over the recorded one

I’m just nervous to hear this when she’s on tour bc her voice will be so tired. Like when people said she couldn’t sing live they used clips from the middle of the concert and you could see that she was exhausted physically and vocally.
I’m hoping that she’s been doing cardio and training for tour so maybe her singing will be more effortless. But even with training that’s gotta be hard to run around and sing at the same time
She's working with a new vocal coach, who's also worked with Sia and Sam Smith so I'm sure she's be ready in time
The coach needs to work with her on her lower register because she sounds like she’s regressed from Sour in that area

I love how it was filmed, first from the high, then it moved to be closer than her face! I actually think the angle from the back is interesting too, because there's a better view on the piano, and how she plays it!
I also found it was quieter than I thought it would at the beginning, but I really liked it! It worked so well with her voice!
It was different from the produced version in a good way, both works so well for what they're meant to be. The first version is produced because it will be on a album so people are waiting to have a full experience, not just a girl sitting on her piano, but also some things that are very distinctive from her producer!
On a live version, we're here to listen to her voice and see her capacities without anything not "natural".
I can't wait to see what she will do in her album!
And about the talking in a song, I can't agree more! I'm usually not a fan when the singing becomes almost talking, I feel like there are a few artists who can do it without breaking the flow on the song. Olivia is one of them, bit I think my favorite who does that is Reneé Rapp! She mixed it so well with her singing that it feels totally natural!

When I first saw the video I immediately noticed how the cameras were not facing her in the high notes, I was excited to see if you’ll call it out, glad you did! It almost discredits her even though I know she’s AMAZING
this just goes to show how amazing olivia is and her singing voice, in the live version she pretty much sounds exactly like the studio version which demonstrates she does not need autotune and she no doubt has an amazing singing voice

Some of my fave live versions of hers are favorite crime and her set in snl. She spins each live differently so you can't expect what's to come which I like as it adds an interesting character to her as an artist.
Love your reaction and understood what u said BUT studio is one thing (which makes it easier to add layers and strength). Here is a 20 year old talented girl that I know you love singing live in a piano with an amazing control showing us different techniques so she can prove once for all that she is an amazing singer (people used to say she wasn’t WTF haha) but also an amazing songwriter. It’s not about comparing the studio version x the life version. It’s about appreciating both without comparing them. 8:35 so theres more air in the produced version not because of ther performance, but because the way its produced (pop music), there are sybalance frequencies that are boosted heavily to give a "crisp" sound. They are also stereo panned to give more presence and overall air to the vocal.
it's probably just air I don't think it's being EQ'd super heavily but its possible it has extra air layered or something.. im a mid producer tho

@@tristanparedes There are definitely some backing vocals w higher frequencies to make it sound fuller. You can especially hear the EQd vocals in the backing vocals that go “how do you lie? how do you lie?” and after that she keeps that going till the end. The really high frequencies would sound weird if it was just a piano ballad, but with the drums, it fits in nicely.

On "Favorite Crime" you are are missing something Tristan, I missed it too. When she sing "All the things I did", she is deliberately adding tension and an unsteady tone. Why? Because she did stuff that is stressful and bad, not singing, but in real life. It's intentional.

The camera is away from her because this might be a different take from the camera to the singing part. This is a very good technique to make it look synced.
I much prefer the live version. I pretty much prefer all her songs live, she add some unique style and intimacy there.
This is also still highly processed. Even though it’s “live”, there’s both reverb, poly-tune effect to help come tune notes, and a compressor most likely. Just because something is recorded live doesn’t mean her voice still isn’t produced. She’s uses glottals, vocal fry, and her vowels often hurt her voice as well and fatigue it. Her high notes are in a healthy register though, so that is a positive. Just keeping it realistic coming from a vocal teacher myself

i think the “understand” in the produced version is layered to be breathy. like one note is exactly how it is live (different breath pattern in the produced one) but then another vocal layer stacked on top of it thats more breathy.
The thing with Olivia is we are here to witness how she improved in every album she drop. We're like parents seeing their daughter to be a better artist each year. Proud of her! Thank you for this reaction.
Yes. I remembered her during her Disney days , when she’s still a kid. Now she’s growing up and her vocals are just getting more amazing and beautiful. As parents were also a little protective 🙂 . A national treasure .

personally, my mix sounds “quieter” in volume or maybe like i’m not pushing as hard as i can, even in my higher register, but a full chest belt people could probably hear from a mile away😅so i totally get the “singing oddly quiet for such a high note” LOL
