The reaction everyone was waiting for!! The song is soooo good!!
It's interesting that you mentioned the eighties, because for me it felt more 90s, but after all both decades are kinda similar, the 90s take a lot of inspiration from the 80s, it's like a continuation melt with an evolution. (And it's totally what this song feels comparing to the whole SOUR album).
I totally agree about her maturity, her voice, the lyrics, and even the music video... We're really entering in a new era for her and I'm so excited! I also like that she didn't change completely what makes her, her. Like the music, the way it begins very slowly, it's always very light to then go hard on the chorus.
For the lyrics, I wouldn't say it feels less personal than SOUR, but more metaphorical, and if the album has the same vibe, I think it can be better than SOUR!

I was also afraid the song would be mediocre because I'm friends with so many livies lol. the first thing I noticed was how much her vocals have grown & that alone had my jaw on the ground on first listen. now that I've had a couple days to digest the whole thing, the writing & production is just as good as ever. I'm so excited for GUTS now, Olivia knows how to pick a lead single 😂.
