Happy New Year kaa Khun Chris. You have brought smile and happiness to all of us in the last year and hope it will continue for many more years to come. You have shown respect to us and that's what you've got.
Kapunkap... I was travelling for the past 7 years to Thailand for Songkran after my 1st experience in a small Thai villiage in Ubon Ratchathani but my 1st trip to Hua Hin was cancelled and my father passed away in April last year - I did manage to get to Phuket and Chiang Rai in February 2000 just before lockdown luckily.... I'm feeling so somber this year, maybe even a little depressed with so much uncertainty as to when I might be able to leave Australia again! ..... I got notification for the Awkward t-shirt shipping - looking forward to having a little something from Thailand to cheer me up although working from home I wear songkran shirts literally every day of the year ;) !!.... Happy Songkran... Best of luck you yourself and family for the new year...
As a Thai, thank you for your blessings and Happy Songkran to you too! We're always welcome for foreigners to learn about our culture and country, and even better yet, someone who shares it to the world!
Happy Songkarn! Thank you for the best wishes to all Thais. We are very delighted to have you in the country. And I hope you enjoy every bit of moment while you are in Thailand. Stay safe!
I am a big fan of your channel and your video means so much to me than you could ever possibly imagine Chris. First I get to practice my English and second I got to see what is going on with BKK during this Covid period. My dream is to one day strolling around Bangkok with you and talk to you in person about how appreciate I am about you doing this video for us. Thank you for loving Thailand and make the world know who we are. I as a Thai person owe you a lot. Thank you so much. I hope one day I get to see you Chris.
Hello Chris. Nothing could be better than this. You are very good at spreading about the Songkran day's purposes. Thank you and please stay away from COVID-19. We will go through this misfortune together. Happy Songran Day!
Happy Thai New Year from Bournemouth, England! Excellent video as usual! Information about the Songkran is spot on! Love to be there when everything is back to normal!
Hello, I am a new subscriber. Thank you for all the positive videos that you shared. I am watching them from Isan (the Northeast). Since I am not allowed to leave my province without a 14-day quarantine, I have been traveling virtually via RUclips to kill loneliness. Then, I found your channel with great activities for local folks and started to shed tears. Thank you for spreading love. Stay extra safe though.
I was in Pattaya during Songkran in 2007 , what a blast , hope it gets back to normal , I plan to see it again this tine in Bangkok , good video as usual
As a Thai we miss our family and friends in Thailand too. We live in Philadelphia and we shall have Songkran in Thailand next year together. Happy new year for you and family.
👋🏻👋🏻Hi Chris, Happy Songkran🎉🎉hope you are having an amazing day? Your an amazing person keep the great videos coming. 😎👍 Stay Safe 🙏and Stay Great 😎..❤️🇨🇦
Was lucky in 2016 to celebrate Songkran in Buriram (my wife's hometown) and Pattaya. It was brutally hot that year. In Buriram we had a barrel of water in the back of my brother-in-law's pickup for quick reloads. They added an extra touch by buying some block ice to chill that water down.
Good one Chris! I poured a little beer on my Buddha belly, in honour of the holiday! I’m also going to pencil in April 2022 as potential Thailand trip.
Thank you Chris. It really saddens me I am missing my second Songkran. Really enjoyed my first one in 2019. We have been sitting out the two weeks school holidays in the Condo. Back to online teaching next week. Covid Covid go away, Never come back again.🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨
Having edited many a video myself have to say loving your transitions sir... you must get a kick out thinking up new ways to do it... the water squirt into the camera was great - the walk offs... the real time drone pan-outs.. location switches... you're just showing off now :) I appreciate how long it would take to put this together, the fore thought it takes to ensure your exiting and entering shots from the correct sides and how long in the end, it takes to edit it all together into one fluid video. Well played sir - keep it up!!
The water fights are something you have to experience at least once in your life. Its nice not to be sweating so bad in mid April. One of my first trips to Thailand was unknowingly during Songkran so I rounded a corner and 10+ girls soaked me (not complaining 555), but I was a complete deer in headlights. I remember a nice shop owner came out and gave me a zip lock bag for my camera (so nice and random). I never had chillis in the water, but I've been hit my the ice cold water which in mid April is pretty nice. I know the water isnt the cleanest and got pink eye from it one year, but songkran is nice and great to know the history/significance of it. Thanks for sharing.
love your in-depth explanation of Thai Year Happy Songkran, It's very sad to see that yet again amazing Thailand can't celebrate, Where is the canal with the amazing artwork?
We were lucky enough to celebrate Songkran a couple of times when our kids were younger. We were staying at the Indra Regent and completely soaked the outside entry. The security guards , reception staff, bell boys , everyone joined in. Special memories the kids still remember today !
Happy New Year 2021 Songkran Festival (Family Day) Chirs Your information is very clear. And the most accurate I Like, you pour yourself water on the street a lot.
Happy Songkran to you to Chris, great explanation of the holiday and I have learned some stuff I didn't know about. I hope that your Sukhumvit road water bucket challenge takes off and we are going to have a new viral video to watch rather than Jerusalema. Best wishes to you, Haylee and Anna for 2564 and looking for the next episode of Parkers pandemonium
I remember huge blocks of ice in tubs to chill the water way to much. Brrr thats too cold. Pad gra prow, so nice. A couple of my favs are Gai Yang, or Moo Tod and of course Gang Kiew Wan Gai.
Happy songkran chris, even ugadi (hindu new year ) was on the same day . sankranti as you mentioned is a major festival in india usually its the harvest season and comes in Jan .
Excellent video Chris. My (Thai) wife says your names for April 13, 14, 15 are not quite right. But never mind. Keep up the great episodes. And stay safe - you and your lovely wife and daughter. "Sawadee Phimai" from Ken & Joy in Jomtien Beach.
the neighbouring Indians usually observe Sankranti in the month of January and celebrate their version of water (and colours) festival called Holi around the same time as Songkran (10 to 14 days here or there perhaps due to differences in their calenders)
Celebrated a few Songkrans in Thailand and Cambodia. Pro tip, wear some kind of eye protection. The water being shot into your eyes sometimes not the most cleanest. Can cause some discomfort for a few hours or worse an eye infection.
Been to Songkran in 2017. It was a unique and great experience but once is enough for me. You pretty much get doused with water wherever you walk throughout which ever city you're in, for the entire week. The water fights slowly builds up during the week and then Saturday is when the water fights ramps up full throttle!! Wear your Safety glasses and bring waterproof baggies for your phone?!
Hi Chris, Excellent vid as per EVERY time..... Can I just say that Songkran is pronounced Songk"run"........run not ran.......I know this can be frustrating because the way it is written in English!!!!! I'm not sure if I taught you something here but I would like to THANK YOU for teaching me something today.......in my 37 year plus Thailand journey I had never considered the origin of the word "Songkran" .....so thank you so much for enlightening me.....the sanscript word "Sankranti". Cheers from Chiang Mai
Songkran: Basically the name is derived from sanskrit word Sankranti. And in India Sankranti festival is more like a Thanksgiving day and happens in January. The way it is celebrated with Water is pretty similar to another Indian festival called Holi where they use colored water instead. It's Festival of Love in India. And it is celebrated on 14th of April which is a new year to lots of Indian communities like Tamils, Punjabis and Bengalis too. And also it's a Thai new year.
Happy Songkran to everyone with extra special love going out to all Thai people worldwide!
I hope we celebrate songkran festival awkward family next year I can’t wait...cheers
Happy New Year kaa Khun Chris. You have brought smile and happiness to all of us in the last year and hope it will continue for many more years to come. You have shown respect to us and that's what you've got.
