True, but as we know with the Pixel line, processing is a vital part of a camera's ability, and the 12S lack of good AI shows in some of these examples. I suppose it is a balance, and the iPhone may over do it, but Xiaomi does not do it well enough when needed.

Are you comparing it to an iPhone Xs Max or what?😂 The s22u isn’t even a good phone compared to latest iPhones (iPhone 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max). And btw it’s one of the slower Androids and does definitely not even stand a chance even against like an iPhone 11 Pro in terms of CPU and 12 Pro in terms of GPU. But if you’re happy with the phone, it’s alr. Just don’t try to justify your purchase by saying it’s either the best phone or has some of the best things, cause it definitely doesn’t. Heck, it doesn’t even have the most and best Gimmicks.

@@saibajinzero iphone 14 pro destroyed s22 ultra camera wise, only telephoto and wide are better s22u, main camera is far better, lidar tehnology also makes big difference, stability in video
One important factor that's missing here: Integration with other apps and how easy and quick they are at taking photos - I like to use the portrait mode for all my shots and on my S21 Ultra it took forever to process the photos and in general taking photos was just too slow (would often miss the shot or the shot would be blurry) - not so on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and now iPhone 14 Pro. Disappointed in Apple's processing though - seems like their competitors are doing a fair bit better here (especially Samsung). But overall the iPhone is just a much better camera to have with you as it does well in almost all conditions and is a breeze to work with (in all apps!).
Exactly. I have the same feeling on my S22. It can make maybe better photos than iphone but only in steady conditions. Once the object is moving, light is not ok (and you need more time to process photo), iphone is clearly doing better job. But this thing is not just in latest models. It is like that for years I guess.
Great video! Thanks. Small note regarding the stabilisation, the two phones on the outside of your rig will naturally move more due having more rotation as you move (I noticed the attachment is under the Samsung in the centre). It would be interesting to see the test repeated with just the iPhone and Samsung equally spaced for a fair stabilisation comparison.
Yes but I can think of no other way to mount 3 phones at once. I was going to just to two phone either side, but normally 3 does better and has more interest
I don't know how you would t pick the 12S ultra for every single still photo especially the portrait of the little girl. While it may be the darkest, it maintained skin tones and sharpness the best. The two others are constantly over sharpened. 12s ultra is hands down the winner here, I don't know how you don't see it.
Personal preference of course I prefer the look of S22 Ultra portrait. The issue with the 12S Ultra is I can barely see my daughters eyes and the iPhone 14 Pro is over sharpened and a bit too bright like most photos it takes.
Lol I thought especially in the portrait of the daughter is where the 12S looks the worst. Face is blurry (or out of focus) and the fake bokeh looks really bad/unnatural. Generally my impression is that Chris' conclusions are absolutely on point in this comparison.
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING CROPS!!! FINALLY A REVIEWER WITH A BRAIN!!! Hate when reviewers show 4k video in 1080p video and shows like 3 videos in 1 frame! :D
12s Ultra still has a bad camera software, as always for new Xiaomi . But it will be fixed, like Mi11 Ultra was fixed within several months after launch. Now 12s Ultra with Gcam (LMC 8.4) even with standard settings is producing much more bright and well balanced photos (like iPhone in this video, but with excellent details and bokeh). With Gcam 12s Ultra would destroy these 2 phones even with a standard settings. Now imagine how 12s Ultra can shoot when it get a Gcam with a proper config for his IMX989 sensor. It's only a question of time.
Lmao, negative, it actually wouldn't destroy anything... I have the Mi-11U with GCam, also the S22U using 16Bit Expert Raw (no contest in photos), and 13PM using FilMic Pro, nothing gets even close for video... Had the 12s it takes great photos, with the right App in Raw, but the S22U edges it out ultimately, and I only use the best mobile phones with the best Apps to compliment B-Roll with my Nikon Z9, and Fujifilm XT-4...
@@bigcdub I agree about video, of course iPhone is the best in this way. But i doubt than iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max can do better photo than Xiaomi 12S Ultra with a proper GCam. 12S Ultra has a bigger sensor, a bigger pixels and can receive more information. So with a proper GCam it should take a better shots due to the laws of physics.
@@MsApog No, the 14PM is definitely not better than the 12s for photos, but the S22U is, with 16Bit Expert Raw it consistently takes better photos, even though the 12s has way better portrait shots, I ultimately decided to keep the S22U…
12s ultra all day long for detail, natural look and non oversharpening. I can fix the contrast and shadows in post. Stills. Not too interest in video cam. IPhone wins that easily.
Good review. But it would be nice if you have zoomed 9 times in iPhone 14 pro. As I have seen Danny’s vlog in which he compared 10 times optical zoom in s22 ultra (which is pretty awesome) with iPhone 14 pro 9 times digital zoom. And result was surprising :)
Yes, the iPhone 14 PM is solid for 2-9X zoom within the apparent restrictions of digital zoom. Really depends on how much you use 10X or more? I have used mine a handful of times on my S20U, so not a big deal for me, though nice to have.
Great that you took more time comparing video quality between the phones than other comparisons. Really that’s the main differentiator these days with photo quality being neck to neck.
Don't forget that for people portraiture you'll need that extra focal length which is the Xiaomi has. WIder lens on people face would made it unflattered.
If anybody would post any single photo from these cameras they would be absolutely stunning. All these are great options and you will never go wrong for all of these. Gone are the days iphones and Samsung take the crown, in fact it's astonishing how far Xiaomi has come, they are even a little ahead of the competition that's worth over a trillion dollars. Moreover, don't forget guys Xiaomi here is the cheapest, it's the Xiaomi that wins here.
LOL are your eyes okay?? In which universe the Xiaomi wins here? I came here to see Xiaomi destroying these 2 other smartphones camera bc of its 1inch sensor but unfortunately they couldnt utilize the hardware well enough the result is disappointing.
@@Ammmg-s1i it's the most balanced one, none of them are perfect. only the contrast gets gets too dark at times and front cam is a bit ehh, but i don't care too much for the latter really.
Clearly all phones in this flagship showdown have very capable camera setups no doubt. And they traded blows for sure in terms of still shots, but the winner overall is the S22 ultra I think. Video however the 14 pro max still reigns as king though. But apple needs some more work in the night time department! Great video Chris👏👏🙂. Nicely done 👍👍
Selfie and lowlight videos go to Xiaomi. HDR and picture details go to Samsung. The iPhone carries the color turned for me. The color is not accurate most of the time but very pleasing.
11ultra is still rated higher (a lot) than all those phones on DXO. Since Xiaomi 11pro is same sensor and software as 11ultra, even the Xiaomi 11pro (which I bought new for 520 Eur 5 months ago) is better on camera (main sensor) than those 3.
i am surprised with the s22 ultra he could catch up in zoom shots and night shots against the iphone 14 pro max witchs newer i am acually thinking that the s23 ultra will be a nightmare for the iphone 14 pro max

im impressed with the 12s ultra stabilization (front & ultrawide). Iphone video is still better but it really should be better while running for the ultrawide since it has sensorshift ois unless they removed it this gen 12s ultra portrait will never be good as it doesnt have a telephoto lens so it looks very artificial

i know the iphone is the king of videos. and for photos, mostly i prefered pictures on s22u, but the potrait is the clear winner for 12s because is not having much software processing compared to the iphone or samsung, the result are having natural sharpness & colours.
Great video! Would you mind putting out a comparison between the iPhone 13 pro (max) and 14 pro (max)? My gut feel is that the differences aren't that great and I currently own an 13 pro. It's a bummer that Apple still haven't done something to the lense flares in night shots. This makes the iPhone almost unuseable for low light videos.
Hey Chris thanks for another good comparison. I would love to see this comparison with mate 50 pro(after launch) and also with p50 pro because still deserves to compare.
3 excellent photophones. The 14 Pro Max has just been released and already has some gaps...let's give it some time. The S22 Ultra still very versatile but not necessarily the best in each area. The 12S Ultra my real favorite this year and I'm not even talking about the next one which should be available worldwide. Xiaomi gives itself the means in a short time to compete and even beat Apple and Samsung in certain situations and does not rest on its laurels. Nice camera comparison.
I think the iPhone is the winner for video, but the Samsung is ahead in the photo section. Xiaomi is a hit or miss in both categories. Will you review the Mate 50 Pro's camera when it releases?
xiaomi should have an update the contrast is waayyy too heavy! its probably battling the noise but if they tone it down a bit like the s22 ultra it would win hands down with LL photos.
Even though it's not that consistent, the Xiaomi shots are my favourite, they don't have that sharpening effect you find in most smartphone cameras. Btw, is that Spain ?
The Galaxy S22 is the most balanced of the three. The iPhone, owes the optical zoom and better night photos. As well as, in some situations, like the photos of the flowers, they were blown. On the S22 they were perfect. On Xiaomi, more details are lacking. I expected more.
Saying x camera is better because the colours look better is a bit crap if the image itself isn't sharp, over sharpened, or smudgy through over processing, as is the case with the S22 Ultra most of the time. The whole point of having a better sensor is to take advantage of it by being able to edit the images to get a better result, something which can't be done if the data isn't there, or completely hashed. The iPhone 14 is doing a great job, especially with video, but Xiaomi is going the extra mile with better hardware. Fair enough that Xiaomi need to improve the camera software, but they'll get there as they did with the 11 Ultra. Most buyers of the 12s Ultra will be buying it for the camera sensor and the quality it offers, most buyers of the iPhone 14 will be the usual Apple sheep, and buyers of the S22 Ultra will likely be those getting it because they (wrongly) think it's the best that Android can offer. As a keen expert amateur photographer, I'd personally go for the Xiaomi 12s Ultra, followed closely by the Vivo X80, and if no other choice, the iPhone 14, but never the Samsung (too many bad experiences with Samsung phones in the past).
Well, as an advanced photographer, who currently owns the Mi-11U, S22U, 13PM, the S22U is my #1 go-to for B-Roll, of course I use 16Bit Expert Raw, G-Cam on my Mi11U, and FilMic Pro on my 13PM, gotta have the best mobile alternatives when I can't take my Nikon Z9, or my Fujifilm XT-4, had the 12s, My S22U outperformed it in detail retrieval easily with Expert Raw, returned it, don't get me wrong, the 12s takes awesome shots sometimes, but I kept my Mi11U instead, and no current mobile phone is beating the 13PM for video, especially using FilmicPro with ProRes2020, LogV3, and HLG...
Has my dual speakers setup reached its limit? I can't really hear the difference between the microphones. If there is, the iPhone is a little muffled, but juuust a little.
Very interesting. I think i agree with your conclusion. Noghtshots are a little underwhelming on the new iPhone. They could go easier on the brightness. The 12s ultra is also good at night but daytime photos are disappointing on it. Missing focus sometimes would also be quite annoying
Feels like all Apple did is tweaked up the exposure and sharpness of the new cameras. The 12S Ultra is very hit and miss the main camera it's so frustrating.
@@Techtablets Yeah, seems to be at the stage where companies are finding it hard to make a big improvement from year to year (for photos anyway). Thanks for another interesting comparison
You can lower the exposure on the iPhone, though, at default, Apple has gone for brightening darker scenes. I am sure there will be iPhone updates, the s22U has had many including, surprise-surprise, a BIG camera update just before the 14 release!
I don't know why you under looked the Xiaomi 12s ultra to my opinion it did very well though not perfect but as it is personal preference everyone prefer differently. But anyway thanks 🙏 for the video I like it
I prefer to mi 12s ultra because 120x zoom and new 1" imx 989 sensor. That can save more details on photo , and you can decrease shadows in photo editor app without lose photo clarity.
I really liked the 3 devices, with the S22 Ultra and the Ipno 14 PRO being at the top, but if you had the S21 Ultra Exynos, I believe that the result would be even better than these 2, because it is without the exaggerated contrast and with the best HDR on the market, along with the Pixel 6 PRO. Do you have the S21u to make a comparison? Is your S22 Ultra Exynos or Snap? Congratulations on the excellent comparison, friend!

I agree the lens flare is terrible. If youre somebody who goes out a lot i would rather take the s22 as it has way better capabilities in capturing dark images. Also portrait on my iphone is faster than on samsung, but the iphone applies depth to wrong parts of the picture. For example, in EVRY picture the top of my hair is blurred out but in places like below my ear lobe its not blurred out. This is a sickness to iphone cameras known for many years. Daytime normal pictures id pick the iphone because it isway faster in capturing images and that makes it easy to use, but the quality is the same to be honest.
To be quite honest, I found the three to be very similar in camera, and besides, all smartphones have their little problems, not even the almighty iPhone is perfect, so if you want to choose one smartphone among these three, take the one you prefer, none of the three will disappoint and I can't declare just one as the winner, but the 3 are winners, having their flaws or not
I find it strange that you gave audio quality to the iPhone. For whatever reason, the Chinese brand phones always sound the best to me, letting in more wind sound, but also doing a far superior job of capturing environmental sound and not sacrificing voice quality for noise reduction. The iPhone, on the other hand, consistently sounds muffled to me, as well as sounding multiple decibels quieter than its counterparts. As for photo quality, there was a shot of (I'm assuming) your daughter. While both the Samsung and the iPhone captured FAR more HDR detail, I found the Xiaomi's picture of her to look far more natural. There was a charm to having the shadowed parts of her face actually being dark. Yes, less HDR detail, but more charm and, again, much more "photograph" looking. Overall, a great video that showcases so much of the differences in character that one can get in all of these devices. Thanks for a great watch!
S22 Ultra for most of the photos, iPhone 14 Pro Max for the videos. Given that only the future iterations of Pro Max (or soon to be Ultra) will have a periscopic telephoto lens & not the 6.1 Pro, definitely there's no reason to buy this year's Pro & Pro Max.
Yes I see no reason to buy this years. It’s the same thing but a brighter screen, always on display, worse notch, and photos that are a bit over sharpened and exposed sometimes.
@@Techtablets Not to upgrade from the 13 lines, I agree, but if you are coming from older iPhones, then the 14PM is a significant upgrade, especially as the 12Pros are discontinued. Then again, how many people now upgrade yearly? I read iPhone upgrade average is now close to four years.
Great review. I'm seeing large amount of lens flare reported on the iphone at night, it's a surprising consideration when it's a flagship phoen, yes all phones have the same issue.
Day video IP14PM wins. For night video I'll give a win to S22U. Selfie video win by IP14PM. Audio tie between IP14PM and S22U (S22U suppresses noise more which is good or bad depending upon preference). Overall video win for IP14PM. Main camera Daylight photo a tie between IP14PM and S22U. Main camera Night photo win to S22U for me. Zoom, wide angle and selfie photo wins for S22U too. The Xiaomi 12SU comes close especially with main camera photos, videos and good stabilization too!

Ultra wide so much more stable on 12s apple oef, Front cam Xiaomi yikes! 60fps more micro jutters when running, no up to the rest^^ The super steady mode indeed great on iPhone! Portrait not great on the Xiaomi, on you kid so much loss of data. The island main cam shot I like better on the Xiaomi in terms of colours. In general Xiaomi I like better in colours for sure. So for daytime I prefer the Xiaomi 12s, low light between the 12s and as ultra, video iPhone 14
The Leica authentic colours were on, good colours but Xiaomi still hasn't got the constant and exposure right. Or even focus at times the phone is very hit and miss. I think the Mi 11 Ultra would probably do better and be more consistent. And their front cams as you know always falling behind.
iPhone would always win. I am an adroid user but iPhone 14 camera shocked me. always look natural, better HDR and more Stabilize using action mode. however Xiaomi is over saturated, over exposure and not that good qhen it comes to hdr video and photos
The whole point of using ultra wide is to capture as much of the scene as possible. So it should be viewed as a whole. Kind of pointless to zoom in to point out deficiencies for those shots. Otherwise, thanks for the comparisons! That 1-inch sensor looks yummy!
Yea well it’s hard with a side by side comparison and with 3 phones. Yea the 1 inch sensor has huge potential I hope Xiaomi can make it more consistent with further updates. Thanks for watching

@@dinervc9582 You dont have a proof on performance all the geekbench testing are flawed .not a single real test to prove that.

Over sharpening is still HORRIBLE, especially in video... WE NEED an option to reduce the ULTRA SHARPENING that ruins the footage. And keep in mind that RUclips compresses and smooths things out. Another great video, as always!
Just use prores
agreed. which is why for photos i wanna serious wanna keep, i'll use using the .raw mode. At this point, what smartphone can do is lessen the digital oversharpening and aim for more organic sharpness.
I like the warm tones of Xiaomi 12s Ultra selfie camera. Sick and tired of bluish photos and videos.
Yes, and the iPhone selfie camera did just that either too warm or too cool. White balance was an issue.
I preferred S22U for frontal video, more detail, great mic quality and stabilisation also good. Iphone had slightly better HDR though
12s ultra just got the best back camera
@@badrogaze That's true bro,,12s ultra really good for the back camera, video more stabil than Ip 14Pro
I think galaxy s22 ultra has the best camera system now on the market, iphone 14 pro max is a little bit disappointed.
no
Video recording, iphone is the king, versility of all cameras goes to samsung
very disappointing they have more than half a year to copy samsung which they utterly failed at... s23 will be out in 3 months rip apple
@@saibajinzero Rip to the company 4x larger then samsung
Absolutely! Samsung is not great with stabilizer so putting it into center helped...and not truly reflecting what's going on..
This is a Samsung advertisement.
@@Techtablets how to get 13 pro max stock wallpaper to 14 pro max like yours?
Is this the sd or exynos version s22 ultra?
I don't know how you would t pick the 12S ultra for every single still photo especially the portrait of the little girl. While it may be the darkest, it maintained skin tones and sharpness the best. The two others are constantly over sharpened. 12s ultra is hands down the winner here, I don't know how you don't see it.
Personal preference of course I prefer the look of S22 Ultra portrait. The issue with the 12S Ultra is I can barely see my daughters eyes and the iPhone 14 Pro is over sharpened and a bit too bright like most photos it takes.
Because he is so blind, Xiaomi 12S Ultra also has the best stabilization on video here.
Lol I thought especially in the portrait of the daughter is where the 12S looks the worst. Face is blurry (or out of focus) and the fake bokeh looks really bad/unnatural.
Generally my impression is that Chris' conclusions are absolutely on point in this comparison.
Why not making video and declare your winner hahaha

ur s22 ultra snapdragon or exynos ?
Very true , i have experienced this in poco f3. Gcam is much better than stock cam
Imagine gcam on 12s ultra
Xiaomi has come a long way 5 years back it wouldn't even be comparable now it's fighting very well and even beating the big boys
Thank u for this comparison! Still happy with my s22 ultra 💗
Good set of cameras shame about the UI lags or at least with my exynos model.
Bir iphone kullanıcısı olarak 12 s ultra daha güzel geldi bana video için teşekkürler.
Don't forget that for people portraiture you'll need that extra focal length which is the Xiaomi has. WIder lens on people face would made it unflattered.
Yes and I would prefer 30mm for that but not happening yet I guess

Surprised how well xiaomi is doing. iPhone for video seems to still be best, 12s ultra looking good. Samsung still great with the portraits though.
That’s crazy, all videos from s22 were very bad lol…
Is the camera noticeably better than 13 pro max ? Cos im getting 13 pro max much cheaper than 14 pro max.. should i go for 13 or 14?
It’s it’s not often over sharpened and brighter shots that aren’t better. Go for the 13

Which phone would you buy
?
Selfie and lowlight videos go to Xiaomi.
HDR and picture details go to Samsung.
The iPhone carries the color turned for me. The color is not accurate most of the time but very pleasing.
I think the 12s had better stabilization than the other 2 on many occasions.
It did yes except maybe the front camera
11ultra is still rated higher (a lot) than all those phones on DXO. Since Xiaomi 11pro is same sensor and software as 11ultra, even the Xiaomi 11pro (which I bought new for 520 Eur 5 months ago) is better on camera (main sensor) than those 3.

im impressed with the 12s ultra stabilization (front & ultrawide). Iphone video is still better but it really should be better while running for the ultrawide since it has sensorshift ois unless they removed it this gen
12s ultra portrait will never be good as it doesnt have a telephoto lens so it looks very artificial
12s video is better, more stabilized and with great image post processing. iPhone lost this game, what is ridiculous is that they have their own chipset and software adapted to specific hardware and even with more power, it lost.
i know the iphone is the king of videos.
and for photos, mostly i prefered pictures on s22u, but the potrait is the clear winner for 12s because is not having much software processing compared to the iphone or samsung, the result are having natural sharpness & colours.

They aren't here is a peak twitter.com/TechTabletscom/status/1570837243509768193 but I feel the video isn't worth making for all the effort.
Xiomi = Samsung is the best, while iPhone is the lowest. If you include pro mode or aperture mode, iPhone has nothing to compare.

My pick would be the Xiaomi 12S Ultra
I think the iPhone is the winner for video, but the Samsung is ahead in the photo section.
Xiaomi is a hit or miss in both categories.
Will you review the Mate 50 Pro's camera when it releases?
Yes if I can get a Mate 50 Pro
@@TechtabletsFrom what I've heard, it'll release in Germany and Poland at the end of the month.
xiaomi should have an update the contrast is waayyy too heavy! its probably battling the noise but if they tone it down a bit like the s22 ultra it would win hands down with LL photos.
❤️Xiaomi❤️ has more details than both apple & samsung...
The stabilization of iphone and xiaomi on these models is amazing

Xiaomi is so much more natural. I like it photos and videos more than other 2 every single time
I agree the lens flare is terrible.

Samsung Galaxy s22 is best. Same all videos. It is not best Iphone 13 pro max
All these comparisons of the S22 and iPhone 14 Pro only, this is the comparison I actually wanted to see.

Great review. I'm seeing large amount of lens flare reported on the iphone at night, it's a surprising consideration when it's a flagship phoen, yes all phones have the same issue.
They need an optical coating like the Zeiss T* coating on the Vivo X70 Pro and X80 Pro or Xperia VI
Jesus the stabilization that Xiaomi added to the 4k60 camera is outstanding
They are all very good, but the S22U takes the win in my opinion.

Front cam Xiaomi yikes!
60fps more micro jutters when running, no up to the rest^^
The super steady mode indeed great on iPhone!
Xiaomi is the best considering the price it is competitive especialy the stabilization very smooth
Iphone has stepped up their game. The video quality was so much better. I still prefer the pictures from S22U
