- Today I going to give sanded paper a test run. I've been hearing a lot about how quick and fun it is to work on this type of surface. So, I'll be doing some testing and evaluating of the Uart 800 paper using both Luminance pencils and Polychromos.
Supplies Used:
Uart Paper: amzn.to/2EZHQaD
Polychromos Pencils: amzn.to/2G3WNcR

Helpful video. It's always useful for me to see artists experimenting with materials and explaining their thought-processes.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, 5 years later....i just recently watched on Netflix a great movie titled "All the Light We Cannot See".....Great info
Lol!!! I’ve totally converted to sanded paper!!! Glad you got to see it’s magic :)
Sheldene Fine Art Drawing Tutorials wow my two favorite tutorial artists right here :)
1500 grit sandpaper
i have sanded paper for soft pastels and i saw some brands listing for use with colored pencils so this is good to know
I found your channel when I was looking for blending tutorial. Then I found out your amazing love story... I shed a tear while watching videos of you and your wife. Thank you for it. Greetings from Katowice! :)
My wife and I live in Katowice too ^_^ Perhaps we'll run into each other. If you see us, don't be afraid to say "Hi"
If you see smiling person that will be me :))) hope you enjoy our country and you feel well here. Greetings and thank you for your tutorials. I've learnt a lot.
Thanks! I've been thinking about trying the sanded papers.
Thank you for your reply about the “back tracing”. I deleted my question because in listening longer you pretty much answered my question just a few minutes later. I guess I was just a bit impatient 😊. I recently found your videos and am enjoying your explanations and the details you give that I haven’t heard in other videos. Please keep them coming. I’m learning a lot.
I hope to continue for a long time :)
Thanks - I learned so much today, subscribed and look forward to watch your other tutorials.
They make uart in black. It's pretty new.
Cool.
Also uart 800 is almost too fine to hold colored pencil. Try 500 or 600.
In comparison using sanded paper and coloured pencils which blending technique do you prefer ? From viewing other videos using the brush & pencil seems a lot quicker to achieve very similar results !
The Uart sanded paper is also available in black, according to The Colored Pencil magazine. But I have not been able to find a supplier.
Uart Paper Comes in Black. 800 Grit
Do not use mineral spirits on sanded paper as it is not absorbent. With polychromos ,lay down pigment with the side of the pencil doing a light covering and then use pen and pencil powder blender. Spray with workable fixatif, let dry and repeat.
Using a solvent is a perfectly acceptable technique on sanded paper.
You can use a light box with the sanded paper you might have to turn out your room lights depending how thick your reference photo is.
I see, ok. Thanks.
Colored pencils are new to me and i;m not sure what solvent your using. Does it have a name.
Zest-it. But you can use any form of odorless solvent. It's sold in nearly ever art store.
what thinner are you using?
Zest-It
You have to use more pigment, more layers and then it will be ok
use less pigment, polychromos pencils and powder blender.
I'm going to save a little money and buy actual sandpaper
Lol!!!!!!!!!
With all due respect, I wish you would share what color pencils you are using and when you are using them. Also I just want to hear about colored pencils stuff, I don’t tune in to hear about movies etc, that for me is a waste of time.
Well, this isn't a tutorial it's a journal where I chat with my viewers and talk about my life. That's why I call it's called "Drawing Journal"
