I find it amazing that people complain about the price of the Polys. They think the Polys are expensive compared to the Prismas. News flash people: You'll be spending more money on your Prismas vs. the Polys. Why? Because you'll go through your Prismas faster than the Polys. I watched an interesting video where the person (SuperRaeDizzle) took 1 Prisma and colored blank sheets of paper (standard size 8.5 x 11}. She wanted to know how many pages she could color with 1 pencil. With the Prisma, she managed to color 4.5 pages. With the Poly, she colored 31 pages. Yeah, people, for every 1 Poly, you'll need 7.5 Prismas. Now break it down into money and you tell me which one is truly the more expensive one.
Polychromos are more expensive but they have better value than prismas, I'm a beginner and have been using prismas but not I switched to polys and I just love how infinitely you can layer them without having a wax build up and I love the details I can get and also you can get more depth in your work than what you get on prismas. With Polys you can also work continuously without sharpening your pencils once in a while. My prismas really don't last long like my polys. Well I'm simply saying I super love the switch. As a beginner I fell in love with my polys but I still have my prismas though cause I'm not using them that much anymore since I had my polys.
Another great video! I personally have a lot of trouble with prismacolor tips breaking, so they last a fraction of how long my polychromos do, BUT I love them. I can't choose haha
Thank you :D Yeah I agree, the sharpener I use works really well at preventing breakage on the prismas. They used to break constantly when I use hand held metal little sharpeners, but the derwent superpoint manual sharpener is amazing :) I really like to use prismas with the polychromos, they really complement each other well! Btw congrats with your growth recently, you are absolutely killing it! You really deserve it :D

I started out thinking Prisma was the best choice for blendability and vibrancy, but quickly changed my mind halfway through this video. The polys can do everything the prismas can do, only with more detail, less fading, and no wax bloom. I'm def going with faber castel!
After deliberating over which pencils to buy for such a long time, I decided to go with Polychromos. The reason for this choice was that I was able to get a set of 36 at a discounted price because the tin was slightly damaged. After watching your very informative video, I’m so glad I came home with the Polychromos! I love them!
Adnan A not in mine lol. Ross just had a sale on my country and they literally moved 25 dollars of soft pastell (faber) to 10 dollars! i am soooo lucky!
One thing I would add to the comparison, is the transparency. Polychromos are more transparent then Prismacolors. I first watched this video about two years ago, and ultimately bought the full set of 120 Polychromos. But then I started doing some work on black paper. I just couldn’t get the color density I wanted, and the problem was apparently related to how transparent the colors are: too much of the black paper was showing through. So now I’ve invested in a set of 150 Prismacolors. They have a greater opacity and for this type of art, that was important.
i’ve never actually tried Prisma Color but, I have the Faber Castell polychromos, and they are AMAZING! They are soft, really pigmented, great at layering and detail, and the list goes on and on. but one thing I really love about them is that they do NOT break easily.
I have both and think you can't really compare them. They are used for really different things, and on is oil and one is wax. So, they are both great pencils.
Yes, I do that too. I use the polychromos for smaller tighter details while use the primsa for the blurry backgrounds and wider areas. Another thing I also notice is that polychromos' colors don't "pop" as much as the prisma when it comes to dark color backgrounds (papers)
I have a set of both. One great wax set (prismas) and one AMAZING oil set. But I am an oil based girl at heart. I really love layering slowly with a strong point. Aside from Poly's I have like 4 sets of some amazing less expensive oil pencils. But I realize that it's easier to make a great budget oil pencil versus a wax one because I cannot find a GOOD budget wax pencil. Once my prismas are almost gone I won't repurchase as much as I love them. I'll get the Caran dache luminance or the Derwent Lightfast. Both oil and wax types have their uses which are completely different. I LOVE using polychromos and prismas together. It's a match made in heaven.
Farber castell seems to be the better choice if you're going for archival (archivable? archivalable?) artwork. Also good for details which I love to do. :D But yeah... price... hmmm.
Syster Yster ...But Prismacolors wear down a lot faster and break constantly. In the long run, you may actually be saving more by getting Faber Castell. You can get a 120 set of Polychromos for $251.34 on Amazon where I come from. Idk where you live, but $450 is ridiculously expensive for Prismacolors.
Mion Keenan I'll check, but if I buy from Amazon I usually buy from UK. I live in Sweden. So there's also shipping and the way the post is being treated... XD But yeah, I'll check anyway... maybe I can buy some in the future. Atm I use Staedtler Karat Aquarelle pencils. They are good, but far from the best. :)
Both Prismacolor and Polychromos are way more expensive where I live :( I had to invest a lot of money to get a starter's set of Prismacolor pencils...
I have both and although I hate the breaking and constant sharpening of the Prismas I still choose my Prismas over the Polychromos. Polychromos are such a great pencil and so well made and you don't have to sharpen them as much... but they just don't blend as well or as easy as the Prismas. They do blend, but for me it takes a lot longer to blend than the prismas. As far as the "white" pencil goes. I don't like either Prisma or Faber Castell. I bought two Caran D'Ache Luminance white pencils. Absolutely the best white pencil ever! Fantastic comparison video, Kirsty!
Prisma Colors are a) badly manufactured, b) prone to breaking, and c) known for wax bloom. Considering the Prisma Colors have to be imported to my country they are almost as expensive as the Polychromos.. so no point in getting them unless the quality issues will be fixed at some point. So, if you can afford it (this list is in order of "expensive" to "seems like I won't be eating this month"): Oil based --> Polychromos Wax based --> Caran d'ache Luminance (hardly any wax bloom and extremely lightfast) Mixed --> Holbein
I've had the faber castells for years, and I just recently got the prismacolors. It honestly comes down to preference. I prefer the prismacolors because I like the softer lead, they are easier to blend and have a closer consistency to pastels. The only problem is that they wear down fast because of how soft they are. The faber castells are a pretty hard lead, so they don't need to be sharpened nearly as much and last a lot longer. You can definitely still blend them and the pigments are still really good, I just prefer the pigment in the prismacolors and I love the softer lead.
I recently bought the polychromos and am currently testing them out. Before buying them I only used cheap watercolor pencils. Well I gotta tell you these are my first professional high-quality pencils I've had and so far so good. I'm so happy to hear they don't fade! That means I can do some serious investment and start drawing pictures as presents on occassons. I learn mainly from you. Without you, I wouldn't even learn how to draw with coloured pencils. Thanks for educating me. I'll keep watching your videos.❤❤❤
So far? Prismacolor :3 I’m trying to get better with colored pencils cause I work with black and white so much (charcoal and graphite) and I think they’re very good :3
Right now I`m using Prismacolor pencils, because I have recently started drawing more portraits and they`re quite good for a begginer, but I wouldn`t say my white pencil is really good, it doesn`t layer that good on top of dark colors and it doesn`t look that vibrant. I would like to try Caran d`ache Luminance, as I`ve seen you achieve great results with it.
FABER CASTLE'S ALL THE WAY!!!! P.S I bought a set of 48 original Faber castle pencils and TBH they weren't as expensive as I thought they would be! But gotta admit...it was kinda expensive 😅
Thank you for the comparison between Prismacolor and Polychromos colored pencils. I have used Prismacolor for many years and still love them. But I wish I had known how much more detail can be obtained with the Polychromos back when I was still making trading cards.😊
Yes they work really well together :) I often use both brands on one drawing. I often do the base colour in prismas and add details with my polychromos!
I do like Prismacolor pencils, and still have most of an older set bought in the early 1990s for my aunt, who later gave them to me. I don’t buy them anymore because they seem to have quality issues. I also have a full set of the Polychromos pencils, they feel totally different. I like both brands, but I think Prismacolor has a better color selection. Either way, I rarely use colored pencils so it doesn’t matter all that much!
Yes. I think people tend to get expensive brands because they are more archival/lightfast. I've made decent work with prang, crayola, and so on cheap or mid-priced materials. But the stuff I sell I try to use Artist grade in case they hang it up and light hits it.
Saeyoung Choi you could look up lightfastness on the materials you do have access to maybe? Or just be careful it isn't exposed to light for extended periods of time if you aren't able to find any lightfast cheap materials? All my cheaper things are in my sketchbooks so they seem alright due to not sitting in the sun/light much. They're only exposed when I worked on them and then when I show it to anyone. I hope this helps some.
Lol i made such a huge deal when i got my prismas thinking that they will be great for portaits and stuff and i got so fast back to my polychromos . prismas are a lil tricky for me
This morning I've only watched about umpteen watercolor videos trying to learn what I can and understand them better. I'm an experienced floral designer and 'well rounded' artist/crafter who is willing to try just about anything (lol except knitting) and love watercolors...but not done a lot with them. Recently I've been stamping greeting cards and playing with a few lower end water color pencils & really want to make my cards the best they can be. (and who knows if the cards go well, I'll venture into bigger paintings.) I'm of the opinion that while some things are good to buy frugally & others you just have to spend a tiny more for better quality outcome. Your video this morning was sooo encouraging to me because you put it in a way that anyone can understand. It was so well organized and presented in a way that I am no longer confused on what is what and what to look for when shopping. That seemed to be the hardest part for me. I learned new terms also that I've not heard in other videos. Thank you so very much for putting this video out there and making me feel more confident on my journey into watercolors!! You are awesome!
I have the 150 set of Prismacolor and only 12 of the Polys. I am happy with my Prismas. One of the biggest things I like is the color is pretty clearly printed on, whereas it is hard to read on Polys and Luminance, both of which are great pencils otherwise. The color so clear on Prismas makes it easy to sort and select pencils for projects.
Me too ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ But! I can afford 72 colour pencils It's faber castell of course I don't know if faber castell had more than 72 colour pencil,if they had then I can afford:-) Cuz in my country it's low price ^_^
I personally like using Prisma because of how creamy they are, and I was surprised when she said you couldn't get that much details lol but I guess that's depending. I use Prisma all the time, but the only problem I can say I have with Prisma is the tips breaking because of how delicate they are. I definitely recommend Prisma color for beginners, and remember that the black and white are extremely crucial lol. White becomes your best friend in Prisma NY friends and black becomes your secret weapon
I personally use prisma colors but I think I may need to invest in some polychromos now. It is quite hard doing pet portraits with the prismas so thanks for the tips. Would you be willing to do a paper comparison video comparing different types and brands of paper and the pros and cons of each one for color pencil?
I have been using the Prismacolor for almost a year now and I am quite satisfied, though I will try and mix them with Polychromos. For me, the Polychromos might be a little bit better, since I can replace single pencils, whereas I failed to find replacement pencils of Prismacolors without having to buy another box of 150 pieces.
Thanks Kirsty. I find my Prismas smudge a lot when layering and colouring and transfer colour onto your hands too while colouring with much more pencil dust that can get dirty on the page. I have to spray it with workable fixative as I go on. Polys are rich and creamy and don't have that pencil dust or as much transference, easier to work with.
This was so helpful, I’m not an artistic person and don’t have a clue what I’m looking for but buying as a gift for a friend who would like to illustrate children’s books. Definitely going for the Fabers. I read they’re a good brand but the information you gave about fine detail and drawing animals has made my mind up, also want them to look and feel like good quality so thank you!!
Love the video! Personally, I prefer Polys because they last longer (in my experience). Plus Prismas get a clear, hard wax buildup when you add lots of layers that make it hard to blend and looks super shiny. That said, I think Prismas DO have great pigmentation and are awesome for learning techniques with. I gave some to my niece (an aspiring artist) and she loves them.
I have had Prismacolor colored pencils for a long time now and some colors I use are about to end, and I have NEVER experienced a single breakage. I don't know why people keep complaining about that. I use a Staedtler sharpener and it works perfectly.
I have been using both for quite some time and the good thing about them is that you can use both pencils together in one drawing. I don't use prismacolor for details because i use faber castell (the one that i have is classic) but it works so wonderful in blending. For those who are drawing portraits and are unsure of what to use, this video can be a guide for y'all. :>
I completely agree with you. I've been lokin' for a specific difference and now I saw your comment it makes totaly sense. Prisma colors Neon or vivid colors and Polychroms clear colors. thanks.
This is really helpful. I've been using Prismacolor for 15 years but recently I need to use a pencil with a a harder tip for fine details as my drawings have become much more detail oriented. I'm looking forward to having a pencil I can sharpen without breaking the tip too - such a waste !
I have the white polychromos pencil and I found out it works best on toned paper (tan or gray) and black paper; especially black paper. On black paper it looks super luminous, and on toned paper it looks really bright and does go over dark colors nicely.
i strongly agree with the part about detailing! i use prismacolors for the drawing that i’m currently working on and it’s so hard to draw the fine hairs with them
Thanks for this video, kept it short but long enough for all the facts and the table you made and followed was super useful. I'm trying to decide which pencils to buy and from this I've worked out I need to cross prisma off my option list as I just get too annoyed at pencil breakage. As much as I want the gorgeous blendable colour I am not good enough at sharpening to keep them working, not to mention they r bound to all get wrecked in shipping from the US to AUS. Thanks so much :) Have subscribed because of this video.
I love the way you explain things! Thank you so much for this, I really needed it. I bought the Prismacolors because of the price and because I had heard that they were the best colored pencils you could buy unless you were a professional artist. I hadn't heard anything at all about the Faber Castells. I tend to hold my pencils and pens way too tightly and my hand always hurts quickly. I also break leads all the time, so I go through pencils pretty quickly and this is very expensive. It almost seems like you need to have both kinds of pencils to get all of the benefits and use each set for different things. Thank you for explaining this so well.
Thank you for doing this video, it helped me decide which one I should choose :) I can’t wait to start drawing, making landscapes, animals, and so much more!
This video is just what I was looking for! I really love drawing but I don’t really color most of my works. I’ve been wanting to get into coloring but I never dive into something without doing some research. I decided I was going to get prismacolors but I was still open to options. I wanted to find a video that contained color pencil brands along with information on them. I knew a few good youtubers who’s channels revolved around art but I couldn’t find any videos containing the info I needed. Then I saw your video and I watched it. I have to say I don’t know how to thank enough. This is really what I needed. You’ve definitely got yourself a new sub!😊
Baby oil is the best medium for blending Polychromos pencils. That pigmentation becomes something else entirely! The violets, indigos, and reds take on this richness that really makes the shades shine.
I started out with primsa and they have been great, good intro to colored pencils as a beginner artist. Then after a few years with my art, I wanted to upgrade and found I mostly focus on detail and not blending. So I am feeling pretty good that I should splurge and get a nice big set of the faber ones 🎉 thanks for the video, it was helpful to see the comparisons😊
This is probably the best video i have watched... I am new to "colors" and You explained so many things and compared the two very popular brands. Thank you. This is amazing!
Hi Kisty! I have a question about prismacolor pencils. I have some of my own but I’m a beginner. I would like to try the solvent method but would an copic marker (which is an alcohol based marker) work as a solvent?
New subscriber I only started adult colouring when we went in to lockdown I've just ordered my first set of pencil's brutfuner after watching another review. I am disabled and suffering from depression so I thought I would give colouring ago and I'm hooked.I can't afford the expensive pencil's yet, lot's of love jacky from Oxford 😀❤️ xx
I want to thank you the way you showed the difference. I am totally new at this. Your is the best video of showing the difference. I subscribed to your RUclips channel. Thank you again
yes please ! I'd love to see a prismacolor vs. luminance video I have the prismacolor coloured pencils at the moment but they're kinda hard to get in Germany :( I recently found a shop that sells the luminance ones but they're super expensive...
Have you tried a helical blade sharpener? I use Dahle 133 hand crank helical sharpener and my prismas never had the constant breakage issue again o: it's like $11 on Amazon and I just make sure to clean the blade every now and then c:
Left Brain Liz I was doing research and usually came across a derwent manual sharpener video (but it's like $30-45) and then accidentally stumbled across Dahle 133 in the comments ,so I did some digging, and was just so excited to find out it's $11 lol. Some people have used electric helical sharpeners but the manual ones give you more control c: Wish you luck and if you get one I hope it helps your problem like it did for me!
#1: you're beautiful. #2: I had been saving for polychromos for a while, and even purchased the 12 piece set... But after trying them out and watching your videos... I'm going to pass and go with the luminance set. Thank you kirsty
The 2 colors in the thumbnail would make a gorgeous Sari! (of course, we'd need to use a gelly roll pen to add gold trim to the outfit and for the jewelry)
Such a useful video! In my opinion I'm not a big fan of Prismacolour pencils purely because they're a bit messy to use. The tips break all the time, they smudge easily by accident, however the Faber Castell ones don't. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for in an art supply, and your preferences.
Hey Kirsty...You've not reviewed the Holbeins. They're up there with the best. Slightly different results as they're oil based, but they're my favourites. They don't crumble and break like the Prismacolors, (but I do love them nonetheless). Okay. the Prismacolors are waxed based unlike the Holbeins. But the Holbeins are very creamy and keep the sharpness. What do you think? Do they compare well with what you like most?
Whatever brand you use, I have found from experience that it is better to sharpen them with a hand held sharpener because electric sharpeners can eat up a colored pencil pretty quickly, and that can be expensive! I like the Kum double hole sharpener for good ponts.
Thank you Kirsty, Just what I was looking for. So confusing when you don’t know anything about it. Just starting to use colored pencils, so this made my day!!
Ok, I know you are a teaching artist(at least you help us here)... but did you know how incredible your face is designed? Your eyes and facial structure is so fluid and fixed at the same time. Incredible symmetry, and separation along with he mixing of curves, and lines. Fantastic! I guess I’m just trying to point out to you how simply gorgeous you are... lovely!
Hello~ I am just wondering if both brands blend well when they are used together? The reason I ask is because I currently have the polychromos but I am missing some colors since the pack doesn’t come with them. I am thinking to switch to Prismacolor for the missing colors but I am hoping I can use up the leftover polychromos at the same time. Thanks!

One thing I would add to the comparison, is the transparency. Polychromos are more transparent then Prismacolors. I first watched this video about two years ago, and ultimately bought the full set of 120 Polychromos. But then I started doing some work on black paper. That's like... a lot of my salary... that isn't very high and two people are living off of. O___o I want them though. :(
Syster Yster ...But Prismacolors wear down a lot faster and break constantly. In the long run, you may actually be saving more by getting Faber Castell. You can get a 120 set of Polychromos for $251.34 on Amazon where I come from. Idk where you live, but $450 is ridiculously expensive for Prismacolors.
Mion Keenan
I'll check, but if I buy from Amazon I usually buy from UK. I live in Sweden. So there's also shipping and the way the post is being treated... XD But yeah, I'll check anyway... maybe I can buy some in the future. Atm I use Staedtler Karat Aquarelle pencils. They are good, but far from the best. :)
Helios i got a pack of 72 off of amazon for like $30 including shipping and i have two packs of them plus the sharpener it was a good deal
Prismacolour for portraits - castells for animals - me “ BUT I DRAW PORTRAITS AND ANIMALS 🤭
*GOD DOESN'T EXIST* 👌
Aquaa I have no idea why I said that now 😂

Well, I agree with you anyway.
thats what i said
Aquaa think it might have been a reply
Both Prismacolor and Polychromos are way more expensive where I live :( I had to invest a lot of money to get a starter's set of Prismacolor pencils...
Rachel
Same.. RM115 for a set of 24 prismacolors
Omg in my country prisma cost like 200 rm for 24 :(
I got 16 fabers for 10 dollars
Mine too. Faber castell is more affordable.

So, if you can afford it (this list is in order of "expensive" to "seems like I won't be eating this month"):
Oil based --> Polychromos
Wax based --> Caran d'ache Luminance (hardly any wax bloom and extremely lightfast)
Mixed --> Holbein
JB thats what i want to hear ! Love the Faber Castells and the Holbeins
Where I am Prisma color are very cheap. $40 for 48 pack. Faber castel is $100 for 36 pack. And Holbien has such beautiful colors but $200 for 50
U make me feel bad cause I just bought a prismacolor 150 :(
@@Laiherself prismacolors are amazing as well, though. I'll be buying the 150 pack next month :D
I love my prismacolors for coloring and doodling. They are soft but I LOVE how they feel! I also use a spray sealant to lock everything down.
I'll keep watching your videos.❤❤❤

no doubt😊
I counted and she said the word “creamy” 78 times
what are you thinking XD
Nah m8, 79 times
Anyway, it's lewd we are from the other side 😂

FABER CASTLE'S ALL THE WAY!!!! P.S I bought a set of 48 original Faber castle pencils and TBH they weren't as expensive as I thought they would be! But gotta admit...it was kinda expensive 😅
Bruh there is no set of polychromos of 48 😂 you probably bought the classic ones
Thank you for the comparison between Prismacolor and Polychromos colored pencils. I have used Prismacolor for many years and still love them. But I wish I had known how much more detail can be obtained with the Polychromos back when I was still making trading cards.😊
I've watched many videos talking about the differences between these two brands but this is BY FAR my favorite video, so well done
Can you mix both brands?
Yes they work really well together :) I often use both brands on one drawing. I often do the base colour in prismas and add details with my polychromos!
I do like Prismacolor pencils, and still have most of an older set bought in the early 1990s for my aunt, who later gave them to me. I don’t buy them anymore because they seem to have quality issues. I also have a full set of the Polychromos pencils, they feel totally different. I like both brands, but I think Prismacolor has a better color selection. Either way, I rarely use colored pencils so it doesn’t matter all that much!
I bought my Polychromos pencils on Amazon for about 1/2 the price any where else and I absolutely love them over the other brand!
Do you seal your artwork with cold wax? And if so, does that help with preserving the lightfastness of the artwork?
Cant we become good artist at art without expensive materials ?
Saeyoung Choi yea you can make art with basically anything
Yes. I think people tend to get expensive brands because they are more archival/lightfast. I've made decent work with prang, crayola, and so on cheap or mid-priced materials. But the stuff I sell I try to use Artist grade in case they hang it up and light hits it.
kiblaze okay, in my country there isnt expensive materials. What should I do about this topic ?
Saeyoung Choi you could look up lightfastness on the materials you do have access to maybe? Or just be careful it isn't exposed to light for extended periods of time if you aren't able to find any lightfast cheap materials? All my cheaper things are in my sketchbooks so they seem alright due to not sitting in the sun/light much. They're only exposed when I worked on them and then when I show it to anyone. I hope this helps some.
kiblaze yes! Thanks.
The thing is.........
I can't afford both of them😢😢😢
same :'(
True... watch my paintings
same :
Me too ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
But! I can afford 72 colour pencils
It's faber castell of course
I don't know if faber castell had more than 72 colour pencil,if they had then I can afford:-)
Cuz in my country it's low price ^_^
*in what world is 34 pounds is cheap????*
High-quality art supplies are expensive, bro. I'd happily spend £34 on supplies that I know are gonna be amazing quality.
😅😄
In the art world sadly. Art supplies aren't cheap, they all have VAT added and they are marketed and sold as 'luxuries'.
100 mill subs without vids cheap is a relative term. A copic marker for $2 is super cheap, but one piece of gum for $2 is a rip off.

THIS IS THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MY WHOLE LIFE. I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR SO LONG!YAAASSSSS!🤓
Ahaha well I hope it is helpful 😊💕

This was so helpful, I’m not an artistic person and don’t have a clue what I’m looking for but buying as a gift for a friend who would like to illustrate children’s books. Definitely going for the Fabers. I read they’re a good brand but the information you gave about fine detail and drawing animals has made my mind up, also want them to look and feel like good quality so thank you!!
I'd say, use both and interchange as needed for different areas of your drawing.
This is really helpful! Though they are both expensive, I've been wanting better colored pencils and the Polychromos definitely suits me better.
Anyone like the video before watching? Cuz I do🤗
I have had Prismacolor colored pencils for a long time now and some colors I use are about to end, and I have NEVER experienced a single breakage. I don't know why people keep complaining about that. I use a Staedtler sharpener and it works perfectly.
PRISMACOLOR!!!!!😘😘😘💓💓💓👍👍👍
I have been using both for quite some time and the good thing about them is that you can use both pencils together in one drawing. I don't use prismacolor for details because i use faber castell (the one that i have is classic) but it works so wonderful in blending. For those who are drawing portraits and are unsure of what to use, this video can be a guide for y'all. :>
Here you go
PRISMICOLOUR: NEOOOOON
POLYCHROMSSS: PASTLE
(WOULD RECOMEND FOR GALAXYS)
I completely agree with you. I've been lokin' for a specific difference and now I saw your comment it makes totaly sense. Prisma colors Neon or vivid colors and Polychroms clear colors. thanks.
YES!! I requested this! Thanks for this.
My pleasure
This is really helpful. I've been using Prismacolor for 15 years but recently I need to use a pencil with a a harder tip for fine details as my drawings have become much more detail oriented. I'm looking forward to having a pencil I can sharpen without breaking the tip too - such a waste !
I have the white polychromos pencil and I found out it works best on toned paper (tan or gray) and black paper; especially black paper. On black paper it looks super luminous, and on toned paper it looks really bright and does go over dark colors nicely.
i strongly agree with the part about detailing! i use prismacolors for the drawing that i’m currently working on and it’s so hard to draw the fine hairs with them
In Poland they're both deadly expensive. I had to take a loan to get polychromos :(
jezu dokładnie, przesada z tymi cenami, placimy doslownie 4 razy wiecej niz w np. ameryce czy cos
I am planning on buying new art materials.. Thank you for the video!
Will the light fastness of prismacolors last longer if you coat it in sealant like resin?
I love the way you explain things! Thank you so much for this, I really needed it. I bought the Prismacolors because of the price and because I had heard that they were the best colored pencils you could buy unless you were a professional artist. I hadn't heard anything at all about the Faber Castells. I tend to hold my pencils and pens way too tightly and my hand always hurts quickly. I also break leads all the time, so I go through pencils pretty quickly and this is very expensive. It almost seems like you need to have both kinds of pencils to get all of the benefits and use each set for different things. Thank you for explaining this so well.
I have been using Polychromos for a year now and they are amazing. When you use them on very smooth paper, they blend very well😊
BTS infires me A.R.M.Y😊😍😍😍😊😍😍

This is the best comparison of colored pencils I've ever seen! So helpful. Thank you very much.
That was EXTREMELY informative. Thank you.
Thank you for doing this video, it helped me decide which one I should choose :) I can’t wait to start drawing, making landscapes, animals, and so much more!
3:25: you could also use nail polish remover because it’s got alcohol or acetone. All I know is that it works very well with blending.
I have not seen the whole video and I already liked it 😀.
Thank you!! Your channel has helped me vastly improve my work over the year and a half I appreciate it very much. Oh and I love Do's and Don't section

also because she has a nice accent, and voice, plus... she’s cute
Baby oil is the best medium for blending Polychromos pencils. That pigmentation becomes something else entirely! The violets, indigos, and reds take on this richness that really makes the shades shine.
thx a lot for the tip!!
What about the paper? Oil must be visible on the back off the sheet. It is not good option for a piece you may want to give away
am I the only one watching this while charging 2019?

I started out with primsa and they have been great, good intro to colored pencils as a beginner artist. Then after a few years with my art, I wanted to upgrade and found I mostly focus on detail and not blending. So I am feeling pretty good that I should splurge and get a nice big set of the faber ones 🎉 thanks for the video, it was helpful to see the comparisons😊
Wow, Faber castel is basically used by almost every kid in my country. We don't have Crayola here😂
Probably the student grade pencils 😃
In which country r u living?
I didn't know crayola existed until 3 months ago
This is probably the best video i have watched... I am new to "colors" and You explained so many things and compared the two very popular brands. Thank you. This is amazing!
Hi Kisty! I have a question about prismacolor pencils. I have some of my own but I’m a beginner. I would like to try the solvent method but would an copic marker (which is an alcohol based marker) work as a solvent?
Buy prismacolor colorless blender it is an alcohol marker that blend colored pencils very well
Yes it should do, I just recently uploaded a video demonstrating how to use a promarker to blend the coloured pencil 😊💕
Thanks for the feedback!

I love prisma but man they make me mad when they keep breaking! Maybe there's a prisma vs luminance video in the future...? 😊
yes please ! I'd love to see a prismacolor vs. luminance video
I have the prismacolor coloured pencils at the moment but they're kinda hard to get in Germany :( I recently found a shop that sells the luminance ones but they're super expensive...
Have you tried a helical blade sharpener? I use Dahle 133 hand crank helical sharpener and my prismas never had the constant breakage issue again o: it's like $11 on Amazon and I just make sure to clean the blade every now and then c:
I haven't tried one that I know of :) I'll have to look into the one you mentioned!
Left Brain Liz Luminance wins, no competition at all. Luminance are the wame just way more high quality.
#1: you're beautiful.
#2: I had been saving for polychromos for a while, and even purchased the 12 piece set... But after trying them out and watching your videos... I'm going to pass and go with the luminance set. Thank you kirsty

Faber castell the best👌👍
Such a useful video! In my opinion I'm not a big fan of Prismacolour pencils purely because they're a bit messy to use. The tips break all the time, they smudge easily by accident, however the Faber Castell ones don't. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for in an art supply, and your preferences.
I definitely love prismacolor best
I've low-key been waiting for this, tysm Kirsty!

Hi i lova your chanel you are my favorite artist
Awww thank you very much 😊💕
Hey Kirsty...You've not reviewed the Holbeins.

FABER CASTELL POLYCHROMO SQUAD #2019
Whatever brand you use, I have found from experience that it is better to sharpen them with a hand held sharpener because electric sharpeners can eat up a colored pencil pretty quickly, and that can be expensive! I like the Kum double hole sharpener for good ponts.
The best thing is drawing on a tablet, never thinking about buying a new clore pincils ?
Thank you Kirsty, Just what I was looking for. So confusing when you don’t know anything about it. Just starting to use colored pencils, so this made my day!!

Thanks!
