Great information, thanks! My favorite is hot press watercolor paper. Similar benefits to marker paper in that you can use watercolor as a base. But it's a good surface regardless.

Put a coat of liquitex clear gesso(15 usd) on any paper(Bristol vellum for example), you will get almost pastel paper texture that will increase your speed and saturation for a really low cost.

This is awesome. Not some hour long extended filler video about how the cat knocked their glasses off the desk, so they were blind for half a day, fumbling around like a blind monster, missing the time to pick up the kids and basically just filler to aggressively agitate me. Just got right to the point. Thanks and subbed

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way, but you forgot the videos that spend 15 minutes fiddling with the scissors and pencils pointing out the bleedin' obvious - it's a pencil and scissors. We can see that for ourselves - we don't need to be told they are scissors for 15 minutes. The tools should go in a list.

it's also one of the most expensive! I use it for watercolours because of it's water holding properties but it's way too expensive for pencils.

I love sanded papers with my Poly Chromos and Holbeins pencils. Canson XL Dry Mixed Media Sanded Grain is so fun and VERY inexpensive. Takes color pencil very well and I love applying pastel down first and then pencil on top. I can use pastel, then fixative then color pencil, then solvent and then more pencil. I wish it was thicker but it is a great practice paper. I also love Lux Archival as well. It also take mixed dry medias of pastel and color pencil really well. The Poly Chromos feel just like pastel pencils on it. And you can use powder blend so well on it with Poly Chromos.

Another bonus to Dura-Lar, you can intensify colors by adding layers of color on the backside of the film. It helps out if you want to use a slice or tombow eraser to do highlights and want a different color to come through other than white.

I'm working with Aquarell Paper and water mixable color pencils from Faber Castell.
The Aquarell Paper comes in different values of grain and is also available in several colors as well.
I also work with water based felt tip color pencils for children on the same paper.
Using a brush and some water after the first layer of color creates some interesting effects.

Artagain paper another excellent paper for colored pencils. It can handle lots of layering. You can erase in order to add corrective layers too as it is quite durable. It comes in a variety of mid tones as well. Give it a try!

Thank you so much ! I have 3 of the papers you mentioned.....Bristol vellum, MI Tientes and Pastelmat. I bought a bunch of vintage paper at an artist's estate sale and got several pads of Grumbacher charcoal/ pastel paper. It reminds me of MI Tientes paper so will be experimenting with that paper too.

    Hi, Hello
Do you think you could talk about which kind of camera is most appropriate to capture colour pencils in the most clear way? I love the grainy texture of love colour pencils. I don't go for smooth blends to get realistic drawings but when I take photos of my drawings of paintings they appear awfully dirty

Thank you so much for this great summon about paper for colored paper. Bristol, I like to use for graphite, charcoal or gray-scale colored pencil pieces. Pastelmat is just my favorit though the texture both eats the pencils and time. Haven't tried Stonehenge yet, it seems I will like it after your explanations.
Folks, if you love drawing & painting, I can highly recommend the membership program of The Virtual Instructor Matt created.
