In your part about cat and really being the first ones to push the 146 game, they’ve really done it since the m7 days! And the proclimb/ assender platform in the highcountry are great sleds, but I gotta say the riot x/ alpha 146 is a beast! I absolutely love my orange 22 alpha 146! Funnest sled I’ve ever rode! And I’d never go back to owning a 154 or if I need I’d just rent a 154, but me and my cousins both have 146’s and love them! And maverick Walker with that solid turbo 146 is just ridiculous lol
Listening to the tunnel width convo. 1 " would make a difference. Also why do you assume the width between brake and chain case is fixed ? There's no reason that can't be narrowed.
Tunnel width is not constrained by anything but the track narrowing it would be a massive advantage in weight loss and drag in the snow. I personally think this is the last real issue with doo once then commit to 15 and copy the Polaris tunnel and add a belt drive then the sled will be the best
Personal opinion if you have two sleds get a 146 but if you have one sled and you never want to be a kook getting stuck in epic conditions then stick to a 165 so you can handle anything your crew gets thrown without being that guy trying to be cool. I get 154 is good in 95% of conditions. But most people need to stay home that 5% unless you’re exceptionally talented and good at getting your self out.
The biggest most powerful long track production mountain sled that ever existed came out in 2023, so I don't really agree with the idea that the segment is switching to short tracks. A 146 is a short track now. Lol
No offense, but I think you're just getting old the way you talk about not wanting a powerful, capable sled in exchange for something that's easy to ride. Where I live, everyone seems to be switching to turbos and mostly 165s.

Thanks guys, this was super helpful.

I’m really curious about the new spindle on the freeride.
So the big question is, can you put the free rides shocks on the summit expert and have the best of both worlds?
I was thinking put 34” arms on the Freeride. Then you get narrow ski, narrow track, upgraded spindle, and better shocks.
@@teachdougie8139 that’s probably a quicker route to take if the shocks would still fit with a narrower front end
2004 summit first 16" track.
Came to say the same
