This is exactly what drives me nuts about this show. It feels like so many episodes consist of her making a SUPERIOR product at some point early on. Then she spends the rest of the episode trying to "tone it down" to match the mediocrity and blandness of the mass-produced thing. Or she'll spend inordinate amounts of time trying to match the look/texture EXACTLY like the original (like how she spent time grating the edges of her shortbread here), i.e. like something that came off of a conveyor belt. I mean, I get that it's funny to watch her struggle. But I feel like sometimes they make her struggle for the sake of struggle, and it only results in an inferior end product and "recipes" that are of no practical use for a home cook.

And it kind of makes the title of the show misleading. However, I feel like if they *actually* had her make a gourmet version (like the title implies)--you know, something you'd be delighted to eat if it was offered at a party--then they could have the best of both worlds: (a) Entertain the viewer with the research process and the chemistry she has with her co-hosts. (b) Have a recipe people might be tempted to make. [By the way, I don't want to come off too strong here. I obviously still love and watch the show the way it is. I just think it could be better. The editor always does such a good job and I feel like they never get enough recognition. Great job, editor! I think a lot of the comedy in the video comes from the way you edit.

My favorite part of BA test kitchen stuff - and I mean I know of course it's cut for content, but still - is that the people are so fantastically skilled at taking and giving critique. There's a really collegial give and take, and yeah, sometimes someone's bummed out 'cuz they thought they'd nailed something and someone else says they didn't, but the sense of positive collaboration is really wholesome.
I originally watched these episodes because they sounded really cool and interesting. I stayed because Claire's personality is amazing and I love seeing her persevere.
Yeah that was strange but then I did think about it and I have never actually used the spare tyre in my car for the past few decades so a space saver is fine as I wont be bush bashing or driving this type of city car out bush or anything where a full size would matter much.

YES!!! Clockwise and counterclockwise I get, but left or right in a circle has never made sense to me. For someone who has been yelled at by a few ex-boyfriends and a grandfather for not understanding “lefty loosey/ righty tighty” when dealing with a circle, it made me unreasonably happy to hear Claire say the same thing.
It makes perfect sense though, imagine you're at a point in the center of a circle, if someone tells you to 'turn to your right' you're always going to be turning clockwise... Hence righty-tighty = clockwise and lefty-loosy = anticlockwise.

My favorite part of BA test kitchen stuff - and I mean I know of course it's cut for content, but still - is that the people are so fantastically skilled at taking and giving critique. There's a really collegial give and take, and yeah, sometimes someone's bummed out 'cuz they thought they'd nailed something and someone else says they didn't, but the sense of positive collaboration is really wholesome.
I originally watched these episodes because they sounded really cool and interesting. I stayed because Claire's personality is amazing and I love seeing her persevere.
Yeah that was strange but then I did think about it and I have never actually used the spare tyre in my car for the past few decades so a space saver is fine as I wont be bush bashing or driving this type of city car out bush or anything where a full size would matter much.

Cause your hand or fingers are twisting towards the left or right side of your body. Or think when driving counter clockwise you turn left...clockwise you go right....its really simple
YES!!! Clockwise and counterclockwise I get, but left or right in a circle has never made sense to me. For someone who has been yelled at by a few ex-boyfriends and a grandfather for not understanding “lefty loosey/ righty tighty” when dealing with a circle, it made me unreasonably happy to hear Claire say the same thing.
It makes perfect sense though, imagine you're at a point in the center of a circle, if someone tells you to 'turn to your right' you're always going to be turning clockwise... Hence righty-tighty = clockwise and lefty-loosy = anticlockwise.

the truth is ... I am 100% with Clarie ... it NEVER made sense to me ... I mean how do you know if it's clockwise or counter clockwise (I know now but just from a logic standpoint)

It makes me sad that claire sometimes seems like she doesn't enjoy doing these, I know the majority of us would prefer she do something she likes. You can tell she's a good soul. I love BA vids cos the sense of camaraderie in the kitchen is super homely, I love when the others are in gourmet makes and Claire looks happier when too
