I read someone's interpretation of the snake at 3:05 being a comparison to the people picking Yellow Brow's corpse clean like when ants take down prey/feast. The horse after that is being eaten by sharks, yet again comparing the people's actions. They're picking his body clean like a swarm of ants, or a shiver of sharks.
And story by itself. I think many didnt even get the deeper meaning of yellowbrow manipulating the people. People aren't naturally driven by greed, but are driven by their surroundings. Being poor, being in the midst of a robbery etc. I didn't get this too during my playthrough, which make me appreciate this already masterclass of a animation further. Jin chanzi, the monk at the end, believed in that human nature is neither good nor bad, rather easily influenced. Yellowbrow tries to prove his point that people are naturally greedy by tempting people in poverty with unimaginable amount of wealth, beauty, health, and longevity. It’s a confirmation bias essentially.
Yellow brow made a bet with his junior brother Jin Chanzi(golden cicada) and gambled on the evil nature of human nature. He turned into a giant turtle in the lower realm, and the fishermen who believed in Buddhism saved him. He used spells to heal the people, cut pearls from his body, and the tornado fished, and the people began to worship him as a Buddha and build temples for him, which can be seen from the couplets that his status is equal to that of the Buddha. The bonfire ceremony was for the people to exchange pearls with him with food, and it was originally orderly. Suddenly, a young man was bewitched by him, and he noticed that the collar was pulled up, and he rushed out of the crowd as if he had lost his soul. Originally, the official was to stop him, he faked his death, and then the crowd went crazy, interspersed with a lot of indulgent flashes. Eventually, the carnival ended, and the village decayed. Jin Chanzi found him, and he said I won again. The Jin Chanzi exposed his deception, which harmed people's hearts and turned the effect into the cause. Yellow brow manipulated the originally kind and orderly villagers through spells, creating a crazy farce, but instead said that the result was the cause, but in fact he was the cause. This plot is to explain the core of the whole story in the third level, Yellow brow established himself as a Buddha in Xiaoxitian, and absorbed a large number of believers through demagoguery and incitement + violent conquest, even including the star Kang Jinloong. And he is indeed a pseudo-Buddha, he doesn't even have the light of the Buddha, so he can only make a disc out of wood and hang it behind his back, which is very funny. The title of the third episode is called Night Dew, and the dew is caused by the condensation of the air into water due to the change in temperature, not because of the dew produced at night, which is the wrong attribution. Wukong is not a man of hero, but a state of mind, a kind of spirit, and it belongs to those who hold a positive, valiant heart to sufferings in life❤ Thanks a lot! Game Science, it’s really a fucking good first AAA game in Chinese Game History!🎉
The deception of Yellowbrow contrasts quite well with the typical trope of a Deity coming down in mortal form, showing miracles and gaining followers, before being betrayed and crucified (Sometimes literally) because of innate human evil- original sin if you will. Instead, it queries if instead humans are innately good- merely their circumstances AND the choices they are forced into making that marks the difference. That certain powerful or religious authorities might benefit from the former perception (due to eternal need for their followers to pay for repentance- as well as to justify their own inner darkness and evil deeds) and encourage it rather than actively seek a better circumstance from which more good people can be raised up
This animation is not about the dark side of human, but about their good side. The choas was actually created by yellowbrow in his attempt to prove that humans are bad in nature (see how the turtle "pulls" the man's collar to urge him towards the initial insult). In an experiment, when you already have an answer beforehand, you will most likely get a biased result. Yellowbrow has ignored so many signs of goodness in people, such as they did not kill the turtle in the first place, they show him gratitude, worship him, pay him their highest respect, have everything under control, and some of the officials even tried to stop those people when chaos broke out. The conversation in the end shows that yellowbrow simply wants to prove himself right, his is blinded by his own bias. It's pathetic, just like what Jinchanzi said. Ps: Im totally awed by the song and its lyrics! Soooo goood
@@caixingpoh Turn your memory back to the view of this village before Yellowbrow comes...and think of why even with Yellowbrow's supernatural help, the village is still full of poor people
The point still stands he provided a "means to an end" for the villagers with no guidance leaving them to their own devices and letting them decide what to do with their new found fortune whether pathetic or bias the point remains that we as humans will want more even when we have everything.
Yellowbrow triggered the dark side of human nature and completely ignored people actually saved the turtle he disguised in the first place just for proving his obsession was right. Means does not justifies the end.
To me this animation is the darkest among all six chapters. The dark sides of human nature is tempted by the softshell turtle disguised by yellowbrow. No wonder the game's called black myth. I recommend to watch several times to get the fullest picture. anyway thank you for making this🎉
I think people really dont get a full grasp of what this chapter is showing due to the information lost in translation. Also not every gamer reads the in game item texts. Jin chanzi, the monk at the end, believed in that human nature is neither good nor bad, but easily influenced. Yellowbrow tries to prove his point that people are naturally greedy by tempting people in poverty with unimaginable amount of wealth, beauty, health, and longevity. It’s a confirmation bias essentially.
From what i hear, he want to prove human in nature are greedy bastard but he could have choose a well down village to settle, why a poor one? One that is easily to be tempted. Why did he put an enchantment on a villager who is there to pray to him, force him to cut him up and trigger everyone to do the same. All prove his point when in reality, he really didn't prove much. Humans are lead by the condition and environment they are in.
It's an interesting dilemma at the end. Yellow Brow desired victory to validate his knowledge of human nature. But the very desire was what restricted him to the mortal realm, unable to transcend into Buddhahood. Then he asked, if not for desire, why do we even debate or talk, for that matter. If Buddha is so great and Buddhism is the true way, why do we even need all these monks to teach us? That in itself is desire.
Chapter 3's animation was one of my absolute favorites. I'm surprised how TAME this original version is compared to the final version. Like, they went so much harder depicting depraved monks, twisted expressions, etc.
This story also encapsulates perfectly that peace and prosperity across all realms come not from complete indulgence, but rather even in the face of indulgence, one still tries his best to follow the Eight Precepts, which is the very thing Yellowbrow considers as nonesense because he thought that the lack of indulgence brings forth suffering (which is only half the truth). If what Yellowbrow said is true, then peace and prosperity will be achieved even if it means people can do as they please, which is not the case at all.
In what way would the people suffer should they not indulge fully? One needs to experience sadness to know happiness thus as there is a balance to things it shouldn't matter how much you indulge long as you know what you're getting yourself into , thus logically if overall your goal is to keep being happy for as long as you can then you should understand not to kill the golden goose and only indulge in moderation as all things have a balance then them so does the cost of indulgence
On the contrary, you want to have friends to not feel alone You eat to not be hungry You have a job to gain something No body is a budda that does thing for for nothing Even in aware actions that we can consider selfish there actually giving you something in exchange, feel better with your self We do things in exchange for something You are cappleable to be even use Internet to writte that comment is because you had to work or your parents to pay that

@@rosebomb9251 Buddhism and other religions came to China and copied and modified myths crazily. From history, it is clear what period they came and what people they had.
“Some say he helped Tang Monk fetch the Scriptures, was granted Buddahahood and stayed on Mount Lingshan thereafter. Some say it was not him who was granted Buddhahood. The real him was already dead on the journey to the west. Some say that the journey never happened. He is nothing but a monkey who lives in some storyteller’s tall tale. But now, you will hear a tale which no one has ever known.”
In case people are confused about the causality of the story, the part where the temple is built and Yellow Brow is revered is what WOULD HAVE happened if things were allowed to take their natural cause, then Yellow brow "wakes up" at 1:36 and triggers the riot as that is not the outcome he wants.
One interesting point is that the translation of the name, “nonsense”, is rather conservative. In Chinese version, the name of the song is “屁”,which means fart or bullshit.
Some might argue that Yellowbrow provoked the villagers into killing him to prove that human nature is inherently evil, and to some extent, I agree. However, that doesn't absolve the villagers of guilt. When Yellowbrow revealed the treasure beneath his flesh, the villagers refrained from harming him and instead worshipped him. Was this out of fear of his power, greed for more blessings, or simply respect? Yet, once one man injured him, no one intervened to stop the violence; instead, they all joined the mob. This moment not only unleashed their greed but also made them realize that even a god can be vulnerable. In the end, neither the villagers nor Yellowbrow can be seen as truly innocent.
Whether out of goodness, curiosity, or hunger, those poor fishing villagers brought yellowbrow out from sea. He gifted health, wealth, and good fortune, and in return they worshipped and deified him. The village grew prosperous, but as their wealth and renown grew, so too, did their desire to protect their fortune-bringer. A system of distribution was created, to protect, guard, and ensure the continuous wealth. Those in charge of the system garnered influence, status, and fortune, whereas the villagers who initially found him remained poor and destitute, gated from his gifts. The imbalance sowed discontent and with a gentle push, yellowbrow toppled the twisted society to break. Was it greed? Or was it the perceived unfairness?
The story wants to send us a lesson that we should not be greedy and will lose ourselves because of expensive things but in reality it is nothing compared to love.

Yellowblow believes everyone has the dark side inside. However jinchanzi believes everyone has the chance to be good, which is the indriya, no matter how bad they were.
I mean, the humans worship him, make a shrine, a system to avoid infight as well to share the blessing and resources, plus all where living in peace and prosperity, as matter of fact most didn't act, and many couldn't, he has to such extreme to go into an extremely poor area with not many resources as well as influence people to do evil acts, humans are abstract simple being with abstract and complex minds, he failed miserably on trying to prove his point
During his death it flashes to a scene of a horse(?) being eaten by sharks and scavengers in the ocean. It makes me think about how this mirrors human nature, we're not above the natural order. In greed, we act like scavengers driven by primal instincts feeding off what we can. Really powerful scene.
Chinese Buddhism (Han Buddhism). Dont associate it with India Buddhism. There is a huge difference between the two. Chinese Buddhism is 3 religious combinations 1 . 三教合一 . ( 道Taoism+儒Confucianism+釋Buddhism ). China retains the content of the Buddhist scriptures. Simple Indian Buddhist ? ancient Chinese do not accept it "Taoism" has formed Chinese culture and Chinese philosophy. (Heaven) "Confucianism" regulates the moral concepts and etiquette of the Chinese. (Human world) "Buddhism" affects the concept of life and death of the Chinese. (hell) From its inception, " Chinese Buddhism" has been influenced by native Chinese religions and philosophy, especially Confucianism and Taoism, but also Chinese folk religion. Before the emergence of Buddhism, the Chinese did not have the concept of hell. So when the Chinese described hell, they would quote Buddhism. In Chinese Buddhism, all Buddhas are Chinese. Otherwise, the ancient Chinese would not have accepted it. Initially, the ancient Chinese very much rejected Buddhism (which seriously violated the culture and spirit of Taoism and Confucianism. Cutting off hair and being irresponsible to family and work Responsibility). Some interest groups promoted Buddhism in China. Add a lot of Taoist and Confucian culture. Radically transform Buddhism into a Chinese religion. (preserve the content of Buddhist scriptures). Let the ancient Chinese believe that Buddhism is a Chinese religion. Only then can they accept Buddhism. * The only job of ancient Chinese monks was to save the souls of the dead. All Chinese Buddhas and styles are Chinese in China. Their appearance, clothing and culture are all changed to Chinese (or Taoist gods). Some use the same phonetic name. Represent the same function or incarnation. In Chinese Buddhism, everything non-Chinese is excluded (except for the words in Buddhist scriptures). In Chinese Buddhism (Han Buddhism), anyone as long as anyone opens wisdom (let go of desire). He can become Buddha. There is a saying in China: " 放下屠刀立地成佛 A butcher becomes a Buddha the moment he drops his cleaver. "人人都是佛 Everyone is a Buddha. 滿街都是聖人The streets are full of saints.". In history, many ancient Chinese have become Buddhas. So many Buddha statues of different images in China are those ancient Chinese (most of them are monks). -------------------------- Chinese Buddhism and Indian Buddhism are completely different. Even in many countries with Buddhist cultures in Southeast Asia, their Buddhist culture and content are completely different (the difference from Chinese Buddhism is also huge). India's main religion and Buddhism is antagonistic. Ancient Buddhism appeared and developed in a certain place in Asia for only a short time (not today India). But Buddhism has existed in other countries and peoples for hundreds of years. Various Buddhist cultures on the earth have India is not relevant. Indians should not fantasize about the whole world.

CHILLS when I first watched this cutscene on my first playthrough
The deception of Yellowbrow contrasts quite well with the typical trope of a Deity coming down in mortal form, showing miracles and gaining followers, before being betrayed and crucified (Sometimes literally) because of innate human evil- original sin if you will. Instead, it queries if instead humans are innately good- merely their circumstances AND the choices they are forced into making that marks the difference.
That certain powerful or religious authorities might benefit from the former perception (due to eternal need for their followers to pay for repentance- as well as to justify their own inner darkness and evil deeds) and encourage it rather than actively seek a better circumstance from which more good people can be raised up
Well said, it's very deep
Woha havent seen it on the christian/catholic perspective, very cool thanks
That’s a really interesting take on this. Thank you.
一神教的理解能力就是狭隘😂
Soooo goood
And as a result, yellowbrow has ruined a good village by pushing people towards their worst side...
@@caixingpoh Turn your memory back to the view of this village before Yellowbrow comes...and think of why even with Yellowbrow's supernatural help, the village is still full of poor people
Colour revolution
The point still stands he provided a "means to an end" for the villagers with no guidance leaving them to their own devices and letting them decide what to do with their new found fortune whether pathetic or bias the point remains that we as humans will want more even when we have everything.
And also, Jinchanzi wants to prove everyone has the wisdom
Yellowbrow triggered the dark side of human nature and completely ignored people actually saved the turtle he disguised in the first place just for proving his obsession was right. Means does not justifies the end.
Such as IGN
They didn’t save the turtle they were going to sacrifice it.
Bruh! Save the turtle from what?

狐狸的故事更阴暗😢
this is literally my favourite animation in the game, It is so dark, even darker than the DC universe!
Absolute Cinema
It's an interesting dilemma at the end. Yellow Brow desired victory to validate his knowledge of human nature. But the very desire was what restricted him to the mortal realm, unable to transcend into Buddhahood. Then he asked, if not for desire, why do we even debate or talk, for that matter. If Buddha is so great and Buddhism is the true way, why do we even need all these monks to teach us? That in itself is desire.
几乎所有的宗教都是来生许诺,也就是死后的许诺。
捐钱捐物,积德行善,信封专神,那么你就会在结束当前人生的苦难后在来生获得好的结果,要么是上天堂要么是投胎到富贵人家。
Chapter 3's animation was one of my absolute favorites. I'm surprised how TAME this original version is compared to the final version. Like, they went so much harder depicting depraved monks, twisted expressions, etc.
haha true,
This story also encapsulates perfectly that peace and prosperity across all realms come not from complete indulgence, but rather even in the face of indulgence, one still tries his best to follow the Eight Precepts, which is the very thing Yellowbrow considers as nonesense because he thought that the lack of indulgence brings forth suffering (which is only half the truth).
金蝉子と黄眉、二人の関係が作品の軸を作っているのが面白い。

One million percent MY Game of the Year
Some might argue that Yellowbrow provoked the villagers into killing him to prove that human nature is inherently evil, and to some extent, I agree.
Or was it the perceived unfairness?
exactly my interpretation.

Maybe its just to picture how strong the greed dan disgrace so studio make it likes an unknown force pulling his collar
Simple Indian Buddhist ? ancient Chinese do not accept it
"Taoism" has formed Chinese culture and Chinese philosophy. (Heaven)
"Confucianism" regulates the moral concepts and etiquette of the Chinese. (Human world)
"Buddhism" affects the concept of life and death of the Chinese. (hell)
From its inception, " Chinese Buddhism" has been influenced by native Chinese religions and philosophy, especially Confucianism and Taoism, but also Chinese folk religion.
--------------------------
Chinese Buddhism and Indian Buddhism are completely different.
“You confusing people’s mind, and reverse cause and effect.”
