I would be very interested to see a newer regular Infect list with Venerated Rotpriest, even though the card can't be pumped like an infect creature. I can see it serving a similar function as Eidolon of the Great Revel or Esper Sentinel in some respects where it taxes your opponent's interactions in meaningful ways that might restrict the number of potential plays they can make. Also, all the best with your upcoming decision! Not in a position to financially support this, but here's a comment and like for the algorithm overlords.
I really appreciate that its a "if youre in the position to support financially" and not just asking for money without regard for your followers. Really makes me content to have followed and keep watching.
Love the rotpriest decks I've seen so far. I wonder if Spellskite is worth considering in legacy? Protects your rotpriest while letting you retarget for extra triggers. This list seems very tight though. Maybe there's room for a mutagenic growth--possibly as the 4th Veil of Summer, to hedge against red decks while also getting a 0 mana way to trigger rotpriest and up your storm count. Not running any mutagenics in the 75 seems suspect to me but maybe it doesn't play as well as it looks it would.
Hey! This is my deck request! Thank you so much for the video :) I asked for a brew bc I have never built a legacy deck before and didn’t know exactly what kind of tech there is out there for sideboarding etc. I have been playing the “Poison Ivy” deck in Bo1 on arena a lot. I have found that there are a few quirks with rotpriest. It really doesn’t work as an all-in combo. It wants to be added to a functioning deck and be a way for the deck to randomly combo off sometimes. For example: I play Poison Ivy as a mono blue tempo style that also randomly combos, while not relying on poison counters at all. In Legacy, I think infect might be a home, like you said. I *think* it could also be a cool swerve for an 8cast glimpse deck, but I don’t know how well that would work. That kind of deck obviously gets the storm count, but I don’t know how awkward a rotpriest + groundrift addition to the deck would be, or if it would ever be better than mono blue 8cast
I completely agree with your conclusion. Definitely not a bad deck, just not fast enough for the meta. Good luck on becoming a full time content creater! I subbed for support 😊❤
12:28: i think you would of had lethal that turn: play fetch land, get a land, tap lands for manamorphoses (storm 1) +2 mana 1 card drawn, use manamorphoses 2 (storm 2) +2 mana 1 card drawn, use 1 manamorphoses mana for ponder (storm 3), use 2nd for ground rift, target rotpriest (storm 4, copies self 3 times total storm 7, +4 poison counters on opponent). let stack resolve. tap/sac lotus petal: grapeshot: target self (storm 8, copies 6 times, +7 poison counters). let stack resolve. gg.
Saw this deck having some good runs in Modern, but wasn't sure if it would have enough power to make it in legacy, seems like I was mostly correct. There'll probably be a build in a couple of months (at most) that sees Rotpriest being fast enough to compete.
March of Burgeoning Life is sweet with this toxic guy. It can target a Rotpriest you have in play, giving one poison and getting a second Rotpriest for either 2 mana or 1 mana and a green card. at instant speed too. Card is usually absolute trash, but other CCs have used it with Rotpriest well.
Surprised there are no spellskites in this list, since it can double all your rotpriest triggers as well as redirect removal for just 2 life per activation. Also I just feel like the cantrips and elvish spirit guides are a lil clunky since they don't trigger rotpriest, and elvish spirit guide doesn't contribute to storm. I think desperate ritual or strike it rich might be a good substitute there? Though at that point you're basically just playing the popular modern list.
Actual factual infect, (basically) monoblue control, Ant....What crazy league was this? The deck has promise although it still lacks something imho, seems a bit inconsistent: if we don't get rotpriest in our starting hand or some way to get it, the deck does almost nothing. Maybe another tutor? Living wish? Sorry for the rant, awesome video as always
not sure if you need blue, you have multiple storm spells and multiple ways to get venerated. Maybe just go faster with Tinder wall and have some tool box protection like allasaurus shepherd.
targeted protection spells (like apostles blessing or something) could, IN THEORY, be better than veil of summer and the like ‘cause of the bonus poison counter
I'm not so sure about that, you might also want to be able to stop counterspells and discard spells. If you only care about protecting your rotpriest you may be right, though Apostles blessing on red shuts off your kill, so something that gives Hexproof like Tamiyo's Safekeeping makes more sense.
It caught me very off guard to not have any rituals, though the lotuses and spirit guides do work very well, any reason about not running any simian spirit guides?
This deck feels very close to being VERY powerful. It needs a bit more sauce, and a bit more reliability, but with a couple more pieces and redundancy, it might be possible to tune this up to something terrifying. I definitely do need to see it in Modern, though. That might work a lot better.
not the most game-changing suggestion, but if you feel like the deck needs more than 4 rotpriests, Ivy, Gleeful spellthief will do it. in general im interested in seeing if there are good copy spells to run to force even earlier wins by slamming additional rotpriests.
I’m not in a position to financially support the channel but I wish you the best of luck! I can at least comment to maybe help with the algorithm a little though 🙂
I, too, refer to my key Creatures as "idiots" (e.g., "Do I put this idiot into play or wait until next turn when I can have two idiots in play?"). #witnessme
Just in the deck tech so hopefully Im wrong, but this seems very lackluster to me. It looks like you arent going to be able to have the mana to storm off until like turn 5, and there are just not enough lands for that slow storm type of play. maybe Im just wrong, but Im skeptical
Dear ThrabenU aka Phil! I have an idea for you, maybe you end up liking it. The way I watch your content is, that after taking a glance at the Deck Tech I straight jump to the league result and conclusion. In case the deck gets the thumbs up, I go back to start of game 1 and watch the video. For thumbs down, I just skip the vid. That got me thinking. If you choose to go full time content creator, you could consider splitting into 2 channels and have a channel for the tryhard Andys like me. That would be the channel to play Mono W Initiative, showing us your expertise on Death and Taxes, or showcasing gameplay of tried and tested good decks or new flavor of the month decks that have good tournament results.
I think this is a little too cute. I’d sacrifice a little speed for protection. -4 preordain and -4 lotus petal, for a playset of FoW and daze. I’d also cut green Sun and veil for flusterstorm. Just how I’d build it!
Hit up mtggoldfish, they don't have any legacy/vintage content, and you'd fit in I think. Just send them the name of the decks: Venerated Toxic Storm, Shivan Maniac, Legacy Bears and they'll be interested. I don't know what $$ you'd get compared with going it on your own, or if they'd take you on, but all they can do is say no.
Man, ambush viper'd by Snapcaster in the year of Keranos 2023.
I even thought about it, which is the crazy part...
@@ThrabenUniversity You thought about it because you remember snapcaster mages superior mode, doom blade.
And a Fact or Fiction? Craziness.

20:59 Late To Dinner seems like a better name for the victory since it can be named off Cabal Therapy before scooping.
Been waiting for this one. Venerated rot priest is sweet
I really appreciate that its a "if youre in the position to support financially" and not just asking for money without regard for your followers. Really makes me content to have followed and keep watching.
You've got to take care of yourself and your family first! I'm not priority #1 in your life, even if I am a daily part of it!
That vedalken shackles feels like a very targeted choice to steal murktides and rotpriests.

15:43 an unlikely but possible line that kills you if it doesn't work is brainstorm for petal.
I completely agree with your conclusion. Definitely not a bad deck, just not fast enough for the meta. Good luck on becoming a full time content creater! I subbed for support 😊❤
Much appreciated. Expect an announcement towards the end of the month about that!
Subscribed on Patreon. Good luck Phil!
I hope whatever you decide feels like the right decision for you. Best of luck with the future!
Thanks Charles! The support at this time means a ton.
great video Phil!
Phil’s content compleats me

Looks like everybody knew this was coming apparently, interested in how this one plays out.
I think I got the shoutout this episode!

I don't necessarily expect to see it on this channel, but it occurred to me that rot priest + storm cards are modern legal
Good afternoon!

I can’t keep up with all the spicy brews 😂 I hope u are well Phil
I actually got paired into a dream matchup lol
I take an excelente idea from Defense Grid to mines other modern deck!
Actual factual infect, (basically) monoblue control, Ant....What crazy league was this? Vedalken Shackles!?!? I forgot that card existed!
Krark the thumbless maybe? Just generally works cool with ritual storm decks though it introduces a random element that you might not be down with
not sure if you need blue, you have multiple storm spells and multiple ways to get venerated. Maybe just go faster with Tinder wall and have some tool box protection like allasaurus shepherd.
This deck could go all the way with some tweeks I think. Good video though, Phil.
Would Nomads en-Kor work for this? Maybe like a bant Cephalid Breakfast variant, cute but fun.
targeted protection spells (like apostles blessing or something) could, IN THEORY, be better than veil of summer and the like ‘cause of the bonus poison counter

round 2 at 21:02 why did your opponent concede? I thought they would've tendrils killed you. What did I miss?
he left the game.
Season of growth could maybe shine here.
Isn't it possible to cast veil before casting the priest and negate the shackles?
What is your day job?
Latin teacher!

potential sauce: spells that make copies of the rotpriest by targeting the rotpriest.
I just got my Rotpriests yesterday, super excited about this video. Also, what’s the best way to submit for a donation deck?
I’m not in a position to financially support the channel but I wish you the best of luck! I can at least comment to maybe help with the algorithm a little though 🙂
Here to boost signal for my favorite creator
Interesting, isn't verdalken schackles also a cool tech against initiative creatures?
I, too, refer to my key Creatures as "idiots" (e.g., "Do I put this idiot into play or wait until next turn when I can have two idiots in play?"). #witnessme
Obligatory algorithmic contribution

Looks like I was mostly right. Mana wasnt much of a problem, I discounted cantrips, but yeah
do you think it is possible to build a hybrid infect/storm deck with rotpriest but also glistener elf/blighted agent and haze of rage?
Vedalken Shackles in 2023 Legacy?
I wonder how a Naya Feather and Rotpriest deck would work
Feather wouldn't speed anything up. The issue isn't that the set-up isn't powerful enough, the issue is that the set-up is too slow.

Comment for the algorithm gods
The deck could run fury
Liked and commented

It's a sweet deck, but much too silly for the current state of legacy
No Simina spirte
now do it with Blanka :^)
As a husband to a teacher, a son to a teacher, and me having a love for training (business related), it would be a sad day for you to stop ;(
