I drafted a venerated rotpriest and saw the card text was awfully familiar to my old pal cephalid illusionist. I knew immediately that the community would find a way to break this card in a no time flat and I'm not disappointed. I think this deck is going to be a menace for quite a while.
I got a playset of them, and I'm waiting to see if they will ban it or not. but I figured casting a Flusterstorm and countering spells over and over sounds fun 😆
I recomend you to not put down wild cantor beacouse it gets you one more storm count without paying in turn 2 ( when you are going to combo ) you put it down and get storm and agree manà, its free. And you can pact to wild cantor and put it down and get mana, it gives you another storm count.
In this goldfish game he needed the 3 mana on turn 2 to win. Even if he knew he could get another summoners pact as the next draw the most he could do was 7 storm, so 8 poison counters. Meaning you need the extra mana more than the extra storm in this case. 1: Manamorphose 2 & 3: Summoner's pacts (finding 2 wild cantors) 4,5,6: wild cantors 7: rot priest Then one red left to play the storm spell. Arguable that the next top 3 were manamorphose, or other ways to chain. But double rotpriest is worth more than 1 or 2 extra storm count.
@@MTGDeckmasters yeah, and anything running chalice of the void putting it down on turn 2 paying 2 essentially kills you, but I don't know, I have the feeling that Rotpriest is going to be played in anything that runs any spell targetting your own stuff besides pure Rotpriest Storm just because is an alternate wincon in itself
This deck Is super dumb lol it hasn't gotten very many good finishes at big magic events or MTGO. So, either a lot of people think it's so degenerate no one's wanting to play it or it is getting hated on hard. If this deck picks up popularity they will have to ban rot priest. A card and a deck that exists that can consistently win on turn two can not be healthy for a format. Modern is in large margin a turn 3 format and the meta has adapted to stop turn 3 wins. They have banned cards that do far less broken things.
sue the potential dominance over decks vs getting rolled by decks and which decks all that matters and until you pair this up with everything aka let time pass and see the numbers then
The main issue I’m seeing is there’s no response. You just. Lose if the opponent casts the rift. Like. Remove the creature. It’s already been targeted. Counters are on the stack. Flusterstorm. Same story. I’m agreeing with unfun. Seems like if you can’t disrupt before cast you just…autolose
A fairer and more interactive way to play around Rot Priest is with Zada Hedron Grinder. You can still kill really quickly, but it won’t be able to keep up in competitive modern.

I thought about exactly the same card. Cephalid breakfast decks are also gaining popularity in Legacy!
Finally. This video and explanation definitely explained it the best so far, step by step, smooth and detailed
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful👍
Yes, your the storm guy, its impresive how do you put 10 poison counters on your opponent in turn 2. Good video!
Thank you. More combo decks coming soon!
I mean...to be fair, your opponent was a pretty horrible player. I'm not surprised you were able to get him on turn 2.
Awesome vídeo! Thanks for including a play-simulation !!
Glad you liked it! More tutorials on the way
Amazing! Thank you for this perfect walk through.
It's always a pleasure!
I made a green blue deck that uses ivy spellthief and venerated rotpriest it's been pretty fun but not turn 2 kills lol
Modern?
I have not yet dropped a match against this because my deck can interact with this combo deck pretty well through hand disruption and kill spells
I can certainly believe that. The deck is very weak to any type of interaction...
Nice explanation 🤔🤩
Thanks !
I got a playset of them, and I'm waiting to see if they will ban it or not. but I figured casting a Flusterstorm and countering spells over and over sounds fun 😆
The deck is indeed pretty weak to counterspells. It's such a glass cannon that I don't think it has any chance of getting banned

True but in this case Wild Cantor allowed me to ramp one extra mana for turn 2.
@@michaelraen4143 good pont, thanks for explaining
@@MTGDeckmasters provably in turn 2 you can wild cantors to get storm but get 3 manas turn 2 is very nice
Nice sleeves, what brand and color is this?
Thanks. UG Katana Forest Green
At least one storm deck gets a hypetrain
Gotta love it!
It'll never win turn 2 that often. There's too much interaction.
true
Are you saying only one misty and one wooded total?
There are 4 of each in the deck
Can u please sell copies of the MTG DECKMASTERS Playmatt
I plan on selling them this summer as a limited edition. Stay tuned!
@@MTGDeckmasters Les go
That’s an easy turn 1 winner with rotpriest.
Do you think there is a chance of a ban for modern ?
For now I think it's safe because it hasn't put up significant results
@@MTGDeckmasters thank you for the reply ! I might try it out in the near future, seems fun
I used Rot Priest in my UG Poison Pump deck and while he’s good I don’t see him getting banned.
I've been playing against nothing but toxic in mtg arena all day and i can safely say i DESPISE IT. Anyways.
Let's see if the hype dies down...
@@MTGDeckmasters Yeah 😅
Yeah this is getting so banned xD
Maybe... It can win on turn 2 but it is very inconsistent

I've played the deck a little bit and I can safely say it's not getting banned anytime soon😂
@MTGDeckmasters why do you feel that is? Genuine intrigue I always wonder why certain players feel the way they they feel about bans or no bans
sue the potential dominance over decks vs getting rolled by decks and which decks all that matters and until you pair this up with everything aka let time pass and see the numbers then
Seems pretty unfun.
That's just Modern as a format tbh.
Depends on which side of the board you are

Though if I’m wrong I’d love to hear why cuz as I understand. Seems pretty degenerate.

Why do people comment in Spanish on an English video??
@@MTGDeckmasters It's actually italian but yeah idk 🤣
