So I recently bought his small tiny soundcard Gigaport ESI eX, which only has 8 RCA outputs, that allows me to send up to 8 channels of audio from my DAW to my mixing desk for analog summing. It makes mixing a lot more fun, and running a digital signal through an analog chain can add extra color and textures. DISCLAIMER: I bought this card with my own money for my own uses, this is not a paid promotion, and I am not getting paid for this.
Can recommend such analog summing to everyone, especially if you mainly work ITB. It just broadens up the whole mix. And mixing itself can be a creative process itself as well.
wow soundforge, OK. So no limiting, compresssion, eq, etc, on the master track? I use ableton and mixing and mastering are a mystery to me @@IJOSoundVideo
I thought about doing exactly this with the Gigaport connected to an MPC One controlled from a PC via MIDI but I read that the audio is unstable with the MPC.
Great to see a new video from you 😀 I've always fancied doing a breakout of the audio from reason into a mixer, just never actually gone ahead and done it haha, I like the track it's really sizzling love the variations of the drums and the sweet time stretch parts, look forward to the next video 😊
Always a pleasure to hear your amens sing, Sir. Tip for Logic users on Mac. You can use multiple soundcards set up as an aggregate device and send the signal from there. So if you've got let's say a stereo out card and one with four outs then you can use them as one 6 out card.
one question for you, how would I send a channel out of reason into an effects processor and back into reason, would I need 2 soundcards, can I even use 2 sound cards with reason at once 🤔, if I could do it I'd be able to use hardware effects alot more
Hey. I have never used it that way, but you need to have multiple inputs as well, so you have to be using an output of your card to connect to the input of an FX unit, and then send it back in to the soundcard and then do some routing inside Reason, but I am not sure what routing needs to be done. You can also use 2 soundcards with ASIO4ALL diver, but it's not always working with different soundcards. For example, my gigaport and arturia minufuse 4 don't work together using asio4all for some reason.
i have just bought this audio interface today how ever i cant use it because the manufacture websites where you download drivers and and software for it is showing a error
hey audrius! we used to blast your 300' eps on the road trips that was b4 knowing jungle comes off ur desk 2 rown ep was a big thing in warsaw thanks for sharing love from australia - raf
Hey that thing is afordrable. Might have to pick one up to run through my old sony mxp-290. Good call. Edit: thanks for recommending this. I just ordered one. Been looking at a good way of doing this without having to buy a new expensive interface. You running every channel mono?
Yes, this is the best toy for the price :) Yes, i run everything mono, and the only stereo i get is by either panning some stuff right or left (although in jungle i keep everything totally mono centered) and just adding stereo effects like reverb / delay. All of the 90s stuff is mostly mono, as mono was the sound systems in clubs (and i am sure still is) and also vinyl loves mono sounds the most, so jungle and mono are best friends here. I might do a short video on that, i guess .
What do you mean by probability ? It is a super simple programming with no addition effects, all the drum parts that have effects on are just pr-processed chops and put back in to NNXT and programmed with a piano roll.
Good stuff, mate! Gonna look into this interface - was thinking about combining two (or more!) lower-output-count devices using VB Software, but this seems like it'll do the trick in one step. Thanks again!
I always enjoy watching your videos man! I mostly work in the DAW because of time constraints to be honest. I did recently link the S1100 up and tried to mix both worlds at the same time, but midi lag or midi delay was an issue. I did manage to offset it and get it in time with relative ease but it is something newcomers might encounter. Nice tune too. I love those edits man! Do you pitch your breaks up in the Akai and chop them or do all the hard work in the DAW and then feed it in after?
Hey ! Honestly, I prefer the convenience of just working in the box, and I do all my ambient stuff that way. But when it comes to jungle, I love having a bit of old school textures that the hardware gives. You shouldn't be getting any lag when using akai sampler in combination with other sounds in your DAW. I never get any lag, and I use it all the time the way, that I have 8 MIDI tracks triggering the akai sampler, while at the same time I might have a VST instrument or few audio tracks running alongside in a perfect sync. Maybe you should simply check your sound card's latency settings ? When it comes to breaks - I do most of pre-processing like time-stretch and some other pitch effect or filtering in advance, and then it all goes into the Akai sampler via line in sampling / or just load those chops in to the NNXT / Kontakt.
Love the vibe of this track. The drum choppage is god level. Is that the s1100? Also, with all the audio interfaces available, what was the deciding factor to get the gigaport esi?
Hey, thanks ! No, this track is a bit older, I made it before I had my (3rd) Akai S1000, so this one's made entirely in Reason 10 using NNXT for samples. As for the soundcard - well, I wanted to play around a bit with software synths running through my outboard gear. About 10 years ago I had the first version of Gigaport ESI which to me was exactly the same thing.. I had no idea they were still made, googled it and found out you can buy a new edition on Thomann for nothing, so grabbed one. It can also allow me to have certain channels, like drums, coming from the akai, (cause Akai still punches better) and other channels filled with nice sounding VST instruments, so I wouldn't have to buy more gear, as I find running dry mono software synths through the desk can sound pretty much the same, and there are numerous great sounding soft synths out there.
Hey, cheers ! Yes, the only jungle I actually listen to, albeit very rarely , is the old Photek and Source Direct stuff, I especially love the SOUND as in sonics, that defines my own taste in jungle and i try to take those elements, mainly breaks, and incorporate in to my own music.
Ok. This is that authentic rolling mellow vibe for sure. The amen and the other break sound super. So i will share my 'positive criticisms' based on comparison with the original genre. There is not enough low end. The higher tones of the 808s are coming through perfectly, but not enough sub. I feel this track is too minimal, it needs another main element like a motif to give it all a point/meaning/story. Pads need to have some movement in them along their length and not come to a sudden stop at the end of the note. Otherwise this is spot on in sound, texture, drum programming and composition. Really nice to hear this vibe captured again ! I love how you appreciate and understand the vibe :)
@@saren6538 You're upset ? You really have no choice but to be upset ? He did ask for thoughts about it. That's my review. You sure you perceived it accurately ? LOL or just get any interface with 8 normal outputs........... if you have a small interface already that has ADAT you can just buy a cheap Behringer adat expander with 8 in's and out's
Of course, 4 times the price of ESI GIGAPORT. Not everybody has soundcard with adat to begin with, because they're not cheap, are they ? Anyway, This is more like if you want to have hands-on experience with mixing desk, but can't afford S950 or just don't want to get a big chunky sampler from the past, ESI for 120 quid might be a great affordable choice. I am mostly just sharing my own experience, there are a million ways of doing things.
Well, if you want some high end mixing desk and high-end rack effects, then it might be pricey, but my setup, really, cost no more than one fancy UAD plugin :D

Yes. I run a stereo output from a mixing desk to my Arturia minifuse soundcard in to Sounforge. 24bit 44.1Khz.
