Awesome video! I've been living in Panama for nearly 3 years now. The mold is a HUGE problem in this country. So many landlords do a crappy job of managing it. I learned this lesson the way when I stupidly signed a lease a couple of years ago (at The Yoo on Avenida Balboa). The landlord & everyone else involved soon revealed themselves to be so incompetent & dishonest I had to back out of the deal. They never bothered to push the issue maybe because I would've gone to court for sure. The Yoo does have lots of nice apartments that are well-maintained, however. Fortunately, I eventually found a good landlord who gives a damn. I currently live in another part of the city.
I think people downplay the mold here for some reason. I am working on the mold video this week. I have heard horror stories with some of the landlords here. As much as they are interviewing us as a potential tenant, interviewing them is just as important. Glad you found a place that you like.
I have been researching hard for about 3 years. I will be looking for a place to rent in 2-3 months but I don’t know where? I do know nowhere close to Panama City as it’s too expensive.
You are welcome and thanks for watching. I didn’t have a credit check performed but I started my process a year ago and got my apartment in July. I am not a real estate expert but you can contact the realtor in my description if you want and I am sure he can answers those questions for you. 👍🏽🇵🇦
Credit checks are a relatively new thing in Panama. There are companies that provide credit check services but they primarily serve banks and other financial institutions. In most cases, the property owner/manager will ask for reference letters, bank statements, and/or employment statement/agreement (letter from employer).
Thanks for this video and the words of advice. I didn't know I could rent before arriving to Panama. Was that solely between you and the agent? That option would be so much better than having to go to an Airbnb. I would do a 6 months lease to see how it goes. I am landing there in August God's willing in the area of David. Do you have a rental reference for that area please. Thank you.
That is the advice most have given because people move around a bit once moving here. I do have a few friends who have purchased and never rented but most rent first.
@@albuquerqueturkey1567 Absolutely not! If for some extreme reason it does not work out for me here I will try another country but I have given enough of my life to the United States. I a, inch happier living abroad. 😀
I deposit money monthly into my account here. I still have banks in the US. I deposit cash or personal checks as needed but the checks can take up to three weeks to clear. The atms charge around $6.50 for withdrawals so if you have an account that reimburses internacional fees that is a plus.
Mold? In humid environments a normal thing. That’s why it isn’t a good idea to bring leather clothes to Panama. I gave a very nice leather jacket to my son when he returned home. The jacket turned into a mold catcher every 2 weeks. Don’t bring a lot of clothes you actually don’t need. You just ending up washing the clothes because of the “moldy smell “. I know. Difficult for women. Dishwasher? Try to get dishwasher tabs in Panama. I am cleaning dishes by hand. Right away after I used them. Enjoy Panama.
I feel safe. There is crime here but I feel like that is everywhere. I haven’t felt uncomfortable once and that includes going to areas where I was told not to visit because it is dangerous.
Sure. I didn’t choose the city due to the number of expats. I chose it becuase I am a city girl at heart and it is an easy landing spot with several things to do if i choose to do them. Inherently, I am a home body but I like options.
