      Yes this is great advice! I mean I trust the process, but people (aka my fam and friends) sometimes look at me while I’m drawing and just cringe and I can tell they think it’ll turn out bad, so there’s always that little twinge of annoyance when I tell them to trust the process lol

    A tip that really brought some life into my paintings is:
    The Contrast Colour.
    It basically means that you choose one thing that is suppossed to stand out.
    For example:
    Your Charakter has a warm skintone, soft brown hair and has generally very warm colours.
    And then you give them piercing cold blue eyes.

    -- MY ART TIP-- : Once you decide where the light source is and you want to shade your object don't just shade the object with different shades of the same colour.Instead take note of the colour of the light, if the light is yellow for instance, highlight the rim where light touches the object with a sharp yellow and then fade it to orange and then to the original colour. It's a very basic tip but starting out I never really took notice of it.This has helped me a lot with creating a more realistic atmosphere in my paintings :)

    “Good artists copy, great artists steal.”
    - Picasso.
    No that doesn’t mean claiming someone else’s art as your own. Being an artist means learning from those who came before you. Very few things in the art world is original now. Artists are always pulling inspiration from each other, just like how Ross has a mood board! Lot’s of artists we like used other artists’ techniques while they were learning. But do we just use it once and not use it again (borrowing) or do we keep at it (steal)? Hope this makes sense.

    • @rei_ikko
      @rei_ikko 4 года назад +24

      Anglo Saxon
      I think what copy and steal means is that, if you copy, you do it the exact same way with no modification, whereas if you steal, you make it your own.
      In my opinion, if you copy another artist’s techniques or style, you do it exactly the same but it’s still someone else’s. If you steal it, you make it your own and maybe make modifications or apply it into your own style, which makes it your own technique or style and not directly mimicking someone else.
      I hope what i said makes sense!
      Good luck to all the artists or aspiring artists out there!

    My favourite art tip is: never give up even when you're struggling. It's my favourite because there was a time I wanted to stop drawing because I haven't been doing any progress but then I watched video that helped me realize that progress isn't straight line up... instead it's a line that goes up then it stops and after some time of studying and practicing it goes again up. Then it repeats and repeats and repeats...

    My art tips is: when drawing, never rush to the end result(like details for example), and take your time! Also always use reference! Were not built to always know what things look like! But when using reference, don't just copy what you see, but understand the concepts and material, but If you're struggling on the material, then study it... really get to know the subject. Trust me, knowing the parts of the human anatomy than just drawing shapes of it, really help "sculpt" out your drawings of human anatomy!

    My favorite tip: Becoming the character you're making. I find this to really improve character design because it makes you think deeper about what that character's personality would be, and thus, what they look like. The clothes and pose come with personality which you can channel better if you become the character in your head.

    My favorite art tip is to make sure you're drawing in 3D. I always used to try to cut corners in my art and find shortcuts to mimic a three-dimensional look, and my art always turned out pretty flat looking. But now that I've been making an effort to actually think in three dimensions, My anatomy, faces, and poses have drastically improved.

    My favorite art tip which actually helped me to get really far comes from a twitter post:
    The art teacher walks into class and screams: "Andrew Loomis and Bridgeman!", following up with "end of class, good luck and see you next year".
    It made me start to do some research on the masters of the craft who explains the fundamentals necessary for any artist. It helped me improve all my work (which still is 80% portraits). What I learned from this helped me to help beginner artists with their journey, which I really like to do :)
    Love the new videos, especially in these times it helps motivate people to use their time for drawing.

    I think my favorite art tip isn't one that actually directly affects your art itself:
    "Keep your old works."
    This doesn't just apply to drawings, obviously, *but* it is extremely helpful to keep at least a handful of what you've produced over time. And then, after a few months, years or just generally a bigger period of time, you can compare your current work to that old stuff and see the progress you've made.
    Improvement in most to all forms of art is nearly invisible, you truly do not and cannot feel it, but through this comparison, it becomes tangible, and at least for me, that is what has kept me motivated to keep going and draw further. As I've seen, not seeing progress can easily be demoralizing, so yeah.
    Keep your old works, it's worth far more than you might first realize.

      I feel you. Art is a struggle, but looking at my old art tends to cheer me up when I think what I'm drawing looks bad. Then I get to see how far I've come 😁

    • @glimbimbim2718
      @glimbimbim2718 4 года назад +3

      I know that struggle and here's something that helped me a lot: Imagine a party and a boy, let's call him Steve, is bringing a cake. He put a lot of effort into his cake and is very proud of it. But then someone else with an even bigger and better decorated cake comes to the party so Steven feels really bad about his cake. Then a guest sees both cakes and says "wow! Two cakes!"
      Moral of the story: every piece of artwork is amazing on its own. Don't compare yourself. The beauty lies in all the different types of artwork and that they even exist :) hope that helps!

    My favorite art tip;
    Don’t be afraid to *go darker-*
    My middle school art teacher always told me this because I refused to press the ebony pencils into the paper to make really dark spots, but once a I got used to it the contrast in some of my art was more noticeable because the shades c:

    I like that you add the time next to the finished portrait, it gives me a more realistic expectation on how long fully rendered out paintings can take. I'm slowly realizing I need to put in more time to really bring out my artwork.

    Hey! Thank you for the tips. They are indeed really helpful.
    My art tip(also to myself) is Contrast. I try really hard to persuade my self do you use darker shadows and more light. I was always scared not to overdo it with the black and white on my paintings until the point I figured out that this is exactly what I must do to make it look cooler and not just plain and boring.
    Love your videos! Keep up the good work!

    My favorite art tip was about how to pose your character. When I first started out I tried to make them do a lot of stance passes but it didn't feel good. Then I received tips on how to position the body and exaggerate the passing a little too bring out a train of the character. I think it's helped to bring them more to life.

    the best art tip I heard is "practice makes permanent, purposeful practice makes perfect". It's taught me to actually think about analyze what I'm doing rather than thinking that mindlessly drawing the same thing over and over will help improve my skills when all it does is really cement any mistakes or blindspots. This tip also keeps art exciting because there's always more to learn no matter where you are on your skills journey :)

    My favorite tip that I recently learned in an oil painting class was the "cool/warm" game, where you can define values just by playing between cools and warms. You can have a cool color next to a warm color that are the same value, but by putting them together you can define a highlight or shadow.

    I think my favorite tip is understanding relationships in art. Something really important as an artist is knowing the composition and where things lay in relevance to each other, it really helps tie your pieces together!
