Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

Perfect intro, Where I come from they tried cotton in the 70's and failed. many years later (late 2000's) one farmer took it on their own to trial it and similar to your early beans they were on the fence but did it again and again. Now its a large cotton growing region. without those people taking risk and trying the region would still be rice, wheat, sheep and a bit of corn.. It takes pioneers to push agriculture to the next level

It's all weather dependant but yes I'll plant more
What kind of spreader do they use for the chicken litter? I am custom manure spreader and run tebbe manure spreaders. They do an excellent job! Always like to see people using poultry litter!

Don't give a minutes thought to those who bad mouth you, you make this stuff public you know there are going to be knot heads out there. The best hands dont brag, no matter what, they let their work speak on its own. It is called humility. As the song goes, "you say it best, when you say nothing at all".

What was the field rotation history for those beans? If I plant 3 years of corn prior then 80 bu beans is pretty common. Corn bean rotated ground is lucky to make 70
Corn last year, wheat 2 years ago, beans before that.
