I have been listening to all of Valentinas performances for over 10 years now. I am a lover of all music. Rap, rock, metal, blues, and all classical. I've always loved classical pianists the most. I've tried to listen to who the critics say are the best, but nobody comes close to touching the soul like Valentina. This woman has no equal. You would have to be insane to criticize her in favor of any other pianist in the world. I've compared her to all. There is no comparison. I will continue to listen to her performances over and over forever. It will continue to get me through the tough times in life.
It happens all the time. It´s like sports...once you fall in love with a team it is dificult to change your mind. The same with musicians. But I invite you to listen to Beethoven as well as other composer´s music played by contemporary pianists like Grigory Sokolov, Evgeny Kissin, Daniil Trifonov, Arcadi Volodos, Mikhail Pletnev, Lucas Debarge, Yuja Wang and many more.
There was a video on the internet this morning. A lady had a piano out in the countryside, in I assume Africa. She was playing Movement two of Beethoven's Pathetique for an elephant, who stood there beside her listening and making a musical sound. It made me gloriously happy. Nothing is more beautiful than Movement two of Beethoven's Sonata No. 8.
Bravo! As for me, Beethoven's work is absolutely about "time and tempo". IMO, Valentina Lisitsa is the most accomplished pianist of any I've heard (I'm 69 years old and heard many), and whose interpretation is flawless (Beethoven and others)! Her interpretation of Sonata, OP 27, Mov 1, 2 & 3 shows this as much as any other Beethoven's work. Ms. Lisitsa proves her expertise in time and tempo with her rendition of Moonlight Sonata above ALL pianist throughout 'recording' history.
Krystian Zimmerman! This is what is said about him: Music for Krystian Zimerman is the art of organizing emotions in time. The Polish pianist's interpretations of everything from Beethoven and Chopin to Schubert and Szymanowski reveal infinite expressive subtleties and the underlying clarity of his story-telling through music. Zimerman's place among today's greatest artists remains not least on the freshness and originality of his performances, always intensely personal and prepared in meticulous detail. He may study a work for decades, exploring every facet and contemplating its meaning before introducing it to his recital repertoire or taking it into the studio. His approach belongs to a dynamic process of creative evolution, one in which self-criticism, deep reflection and intuition play significant parts. “The final thing - that which art is made of - happens in the concert hall,” he notes.
I do not believe I have ever heard this played with such a high degree of expression - throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed this performance by Ms. Lisitsa. Her dexterity was impressive, as usual. Ron

@@therealconniefrancis I was going to say this is unusual slower than I expected her to play it. But she picks up tempo later. I think a lot of Beethoven is played too slow in general. Remember his was a student of Mozart, and contemporary composers also wrote fast sonatas. The piece suddenly opens up and you hear some Liszt and Chopin in it! Playing Beethoven slowly bring its own set of problems, the fingering becomes a case of perfect timing and you get some strange Bossa Nova rhythms into it, to get your timing right.
Fingers gotta play. Ears gotta hear. Throats gotta cough. It's nature, man, even though it's annoying. And besides, at some point in our lives we will all play the role of the cougher, to our embarrassment and discomfort. You all know it's true.

+ruben3k4 "Do you even grammar?" Do YOU ??? You're insulting one the best pianists in the world, a 42 year old woman who's been a US citizen for over 22 years and her grammar is better than yours ! Her grammar is only slightly off, while your reply literally makes no sense and isn't even a sentence . LOL Oh, the irony. In fact, her grammar is just as charming with her minor mistakes as her Russian accent is, from growing up in Kiev.and I for one , hope she never loses it. You really need to work on your own grammar and stop trying to be a smartass.

My mother played it which made our house tremble followed by absolute sweetness. Bringing tears in our eyes like rain after a thunderstorms, we boys stood amazed with pride of our mom. It was one of her favorite.
Valentina lisitsa you know how the real music is composed and also how to know which music is real and which is not. I like the way you play because you play very natural I feel a person with humility.
Excellent playing of this wonderful sonata (spoilt by the coughing as people have already said but nonetheless I was able to concentrate on most of the performance).
Everything she has video'd on UTube is the absolute best performance of the piece of all the others-she is a force of nature on the piano. Doesn't go for the over the top facial expressions as she plays-it's all in her hands and all about the music. Her technique, nuanced interpretation of various passages, tempi choices are all SO inspiring! Bravissima Valentina!
I know it’s a technical comment, but I really just want to say it anyway... She goes to the very very last note for all her trills...and even in all the other videos she has...she has the most exquisite trills ever... And then the arpeggios in this piece are sick. I really appreciate your hard work. I’m just blown away how effortless it is. I love also how you made the Sonata breathe at the right places. Bravo bravo

Now, i try to translate in english, with my nearly inexistent command of english and with the aid of LEO (wordbook):
3 o'clock in the morning, this minutes i come back from your Concert in Munich. It was magic! Heavenly magic! What a power! So much feeling! You're sitting on the piano, playing most compliceted pieces, sometimes with a smiling mien, as if you would cycle good-humored in the summerwind throu the landscape, like, as if were nothing easier than playing piano. Your live concerts, over and over again a enjoyment for watching and listening. I can feel, you love your music and your guests. Thank you very much!
Kind regards also to your husband and your son! God bless you all!
kind regards
Michael
This is superb playing and Beethoven would be most pleased. I now hope she will post the Liszt sonata in B minor which she played along with the Pathetique during her current 2014 European tour.
+ValentinaLisitsa Do you even grammar?
+ruben3k4 "Do you even grammar?"
Do YOU ??? You're insulting one the best pianists in the world, a 42 year old woman who's been a US citizen for over 22 years and her grammar is better than yours ! Her grammar is only slightly off, while your reply literally makes no sense and isn't even a sentence . LOL Oh, the irony. In fact, her grammar is just as charming with her minor mistakes as her Russian accent is, from growing up in Kiev.and I for one , hope she never loses it. You really need to work on your own grammar and stop trying to be a smartass.

Astoundingly beautiful playing.
Lovely to hear talented people such as you.
My best wishes from Brazil 👏

Incredible fast and emotional version of this sonata . Well-done
I think the coughs must be more delicate like a slight pianissimo. But however, was good.
My mother played it which made our house tremble followed by absolute sweetness. Bringing tears in our eyes like rain after a thunderstorms, we boys stood amazed with pride of our mom. It was one of her favorite.
Right 😉
show us your version of that sonata
@@ingeniero00007 he was talking about the coughs ...
Hahahaha you're right
i love the way you play its wonderful and very elegant
ValentinaLisitsa you are very welcome :)
ValentinaLisitsa Ma'am please do a complete Beethoven sometime. I can't wait for it.
Valentina lisitsa you know how the real music is composed and also how to know which music is real and which is not. I like the way you play because you play very natural I feel a person with humility.
This *was* a complete Beethoven sonata she has played lol :)
Excellent playing of this wonderful sonata (spoilt by the coughing as people have already said but nonetheless I was able to concentrate on most of the performance).
Imagine finding this video and realizing you were the jerk coughing
HAHAHAHA
@@ejmtv3 HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Key take away from this comment is " realizing you were the jerk", that person should be self concious at the very least
What a beautiful performance . Your technique is astounding. You move me. Thank you.
DITTO!!!
Bravo bravo
Breathtaking.
Your playing is absolutely wonderful.
Thank you so much
Valentina lisitsa I am your gretest fan you play so beutiful ... lisent to you olmost everyday ... tha velocity you paly is genious ... gongrats ....
Thank you :)
I am with you
I wait for this Sonata since so long. I'm so happy to listen your version, just before sleep, it's perfect :) Thanks !
i am bout to go to bed and felt like listening to this. Good call :). Hug to you nodame ^^
This is my favorite interpretation of the first movement! :-)
Wonderful, you just let this piece of hard work sound like a walk in the park. I love it!
Lisitsa's talent as a pianist is awesome!
Very well played! I love the precision coupled with feeling! One of my favorite pieces and favorite to play!
You're very very very talented!
thankyou for playing such a beautiful song..
this is one of my favourites from Beethoven!
and you got me in awe!
Amazing!
- forever your fans -
I learned this when I was a teen, so I have always had a love for it! Of course I never played it so well! This is amazing!
Being a huge fan of Chopin and generally don't feel too much about Beethoven's long/monumental pieces, this Sonata in c minor is solidly one of my favorite piece for solo piano and Valentina played it beautifully
What is Moonlight? Do you mean Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia Sonata Nr.14 Op.27 Nr.2 C Sharp Minor?
How can one compliment a genius? Perhaps by saying that your art never ceases to inspire us. Thank you.
I'm learning this piece rn, so I came here to make sure I had the counting right. I just have one question, HOW IS IT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE TO PLAY THAT FAST. This is amazing
Ive been hearing this piece since i was in the womb. I personally think she plays the first and third movements way too fast and appears to alter some of the notes. Might must be me. I know she is talented so... I just don’t think this is her best piece.
its been a bit since your comment, hows the pathetique coming along? :D
@@closetrebel Actually not too bad, 3 more pages and I'm done with the first movement, I'm even up to speed with everything that I've learned so far!
@@theodorecrosby9476 great job!! i think the first movement is the most challenging, because of all the jumps, but its so fun to play when you finally get it
Lots and lots and lots of practice.
She is The best in Beethoven performance actually

Valentina, again you played this beautifully and you play this sonata so elegantly with so much expression in all 3 movements. 1st movement is the best!!!
