That game was so much fun. One of the prettier non-canon designs and glad it's getting some STO love.
You and me both!
I remember when STO launched and hoping that the Achilles would be a playable ship, insane that it took ten plus years for the game to finally be able to use the model, guess Activision or whatever it is now was holding out.
They’re probably retired at a Section 31 facility just waiting to be recommissioned for the next war.
Interesting... ;)
in my buddy’s early 25th century Star Trek campaign, the Achilles Class ships were quickly & quietly moved to ultra secret Section 31 Starfleet facilities. They’d be given all the new major armor, new weapons, & transportation abilities & assets, making them ultra powerful powerhouses in their own right & fashion. Section 31 would pour resources into making more of the Achilles class itself. They’d even be given the Phase Cloak, Quantum Slipstream Drive, Regenerative & Ablative hull armors. They’d have holographic emitters installed all over both the interior and exteriors of the ships, so that they could appear to be anything innocuous & innocent, such as asteroids, space debris, large space rocks, etc.
It sounds like they were quasi official Section 31 during the war as well. Just taken completely off book after.
This is what I was going to say.
Basically, they were a pocket battleship or commerce raider.
Assuming all 9 ships survived the war they are probably sitting in a space dock somewhere ready to be reactivated when duty calls. Maybe a war like the Iconian War in STO. Just saying.
Now this is an attractive ship. Love those ample weapons launchers.
I think that the Dominion crisis proved the old adage true about Starfleet: ‘Armies prepare to fight their last war, rather than their next war’. This class was a great attempt to adapt quickly.
With all the fancy replicators and transporters and automation - can you do a lore video on how ships are actually constructed? Everyone talks about how long and resource intensive it is to build one but it's hard to conceptualize when we see so many things in-universe be instant gratification and ships able to produce their own shuttlecraft even. It feels like maybe a giant replicator spits out a bunch of sub-assemblies and they just hook up and "weld" it and how long could that possibly take? What can't come directly from a replicator and why? The only elements I remember being non-replicable are Dilithium and Latinum. And I presume anything that can be transported can be replicated, which makes me think pretty much any computer system less advanced than Data's brain must be within their capability because the transporter can "produce" him and he's often called so bleeding-edge advanced for the time.
She's got what it takes to unleash hell on the enemy with an experienced captain and crew.
With the crew being of slightly less than stellar moral centers! ;)
One of my favorites!! I also wonder if this influenced the Inquiry class ...
Probably slightly!
The sweeping wings section in the rear kind of reminded me a little bit of a Babylon 5 - white star
A fun quirk i found flying it. Since I only use Quantum torpedoes all of them fire out the Dorsal torpedo launchers. None from the standard tubes.
Hurray! Nice way to keep my day happy with a new video!
I dont know how I missed this comment :( But Im glad I could brighten your day!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics no worries at all :) I had quit my job yesterday so I was in a good mood and it was an even better mood after I saw the video. I dig the design and lore around the ship
It's really a shame that this ship isn't canon. It would have been awesome to see this in ds9 with the defient.
Still LOTS of time for it to become canon!
Dominion Wars was such a great game. Although I liked the Achilles Class and it's definitely great to see it in a high-resolution format... the ship I remember from that Game was the Cardassian Tonga Class.
They did a great job of remaking it!
Had some fun with that one when she was ported to bridge commander quick battle back in the day. I think it was the Achilles, anyway.
Probably, as it certainly was ;)
I actually learned of this class in the game Star Trek Bridge Commander. I love this class so much!
I remember what I thought when I first saw the Achilles class design… it made me think this was a strange Starfleet design from an alternate timeline. 😝
Lol nahhhhhh lol
This ship is essentially the forerunner of the Inquiry - a straight up "totally not a warships ;)"
Another theory of mine for what happened to the 9 ships that were supposedly decommissioned. Maybe they were listed as decommissioned but Section 31 took control of them and made them so they weren't what they originally were. I mean to sensors and what not.
Ty for the video and LLAP!
You're very welcome! Peace and Long Life!
Dominion War: "Who you calling short buddy!?!?"
I could see this class being stored in some out of the way location and being continuously upgraded as insurance for when the next interstellar conflict starts. The class is small enough to make that affordable.
I was waiting for this one! Methinks these ended up in Section 31 hands and likely with cloaking devices.
Could be... ;)
Great video.
Thanks!
Like the Intrepid class it looks design wise to be an in-between the project galaxy designs and the borg busters designs
I hear the Achilles class has only one flaw, don't cut the nacelle.
Who needs a phaser when you have a bow and arrow?
She's like an Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyer
❤❤❤❤i wish there was a model of the Achilles class starship I could buy❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
I am really dredging up childhood memories of this game, but wasn't one of the biggest controversies of this class was the crews? I remember a mission where I had to rescue Thomas Riker (Will's evil twin.) from a Cardassian labor camp. I think it would be fair to say that crews and captains would be surviving Marquis - maybe on probation from Federation prison, etc, to do what they do best: fight the Cardis.
Since your bringing ship from the heritage bundle, I wonder what headcannon you gonna make for the typhon and the premonition class
Well one day, youll find out ;)
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics alright
I think they would be better used for long range exploration, and to augment the defense against the Borg.
Looks a bit like a squished Intrepid class
A bit yes, starship lineage at the time!
NCC ~ 22376 , THANK YOU VERY USEFUL ;
YOU'RE WELCOME, BUT HOW IS IT USEFUL?
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics I allway ' s like to know about ship ' s that Vanish , Disappear Even IF i then forgget about them Half a day later ;
Oh LOL, I thought you meant the Registry Number was useful LOL
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics It was so I wrote it down sorry ok ;
Do you need the Dominion war games as the Dominion Campaign
The Achilles went to the same place as Canada's Avro Arrow 🤣
LOL I don't think what happened was THAT bad LOL
are you going to do the other 2?
Eventually, yes
How do the windows at the bottom work? Do these rooms have a glass floor?
No, they have windows set in to the floor!
*does the happy dance as my favorite ship from the tng era is made into a video.*
Awesome video my friend. It's the second one I know I've requested for quite some time.
Is there a way to do a kitbash of this, using the deflector dish of the Akira, and scale it down to that of an intrepid? Id gladly pay for it.
Though I could definitely size it down, thats about all I could do! Im not a 3d Modeler and so swapping out that deflector with an Akira one and attaching it, is beyond my abilities... So to is adding new and bigger windows for size!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
Ok
Sorry :(
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
The reason is that I have a fanfic of using this class and that an OC used the intrepid as a base to create an anti-borg ship. Small, nimble, but with a massive punch. Even adding the deployable armor.
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
All good my friend.
I agree with you mostly on this, although I think she was a beloved class by her designers. Even though it may not have been on paper? I think she would be the start of a design lineage that would go on for many years, that lineage would start in the late-2380’s following the synth attack, many of the designers of the Achilles would end up designing a new most powerful starship based on an upscaled and slightly refined version of the Achilles.
The Inquiry-Class.
Im not sure where youd get the idea that the designers wouldn't like their design? I never said or even implied that in the video... And its possible that some of the designers did work on both, but any similarities are purely coincidental!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComicsthat comma between “Designers” and “even” was a grammatical error. That’s my bad.
What I was saying was she was adored by her designers, and even though it’s not stated officially? It’s design could’ve been reworked, upscaled, and act as the basis for the later Inquiry-Class following the Mars attack
Maybe it is coincidental, but those unique impulse units and deflector array look both similar and awesome on their respective designs.
Would love to see what you do with the Premonition Class.
One day :)
I thought that Starfleet had to pause any construction on any new class of ships, during wartime?
No, and no clue why you would think that?
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics with how the relent listed dominion were in the show I doubt they would ever get any shipyards up and running, especially considering their effectiveness in battle
They wouldn't need to get shipyards up and running, since they already HAD shipyards up and running... 🤨
I would have built like 50 of the class
Unfortunately, that would never be an option in reality... Resources and Time rquired to build a ship during wartime, would have prevented that!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics I would get Section 31 to do it for me on the down low
Doesn't matter who would build them, they'd still have the same problem! In fact S31 would have even more issues as they would have to have resources allocated secretly during wartime!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics Having fun with Trek brother. Love the videos big fan...
Arent we all? :P
how i know this ship si threw the star trek legacy ultimate universe mod so amazing thats its now cannon:D
Sorry, you are incorrect, the ship is not canon, it's beta canon, and has been beta canon since it debuted in the 2001 Trek game!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics ah dammit.I dont know the cannonicity status of Star Trek online ships my apologizes😅but thank you for clarifying.
Unless a ship appears in a Trek Series, it isn't canon!
Dev's still haven't fixed the extra Miracle Worker Power settings in STO.....and they ignore it ever being a problem, accusing people of harassement...
I havd no idea what you're talking about! But whatever it is, it hardly belongs here on a starship lore video. Direct your complaints to STO as I have no affiliation them!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics i knoooooooooow.
Now that I have your attention: Good video :P
Thank you very much!
Typhon please.
One day.
A Holtzman shield would have nullified that kamikaze run. Just sayin.
Star Trek doesn't have Holtzman Shields. Just answerin.
This is a KATANA , ship with a very , deadly purpose😳😉🤨💯%!!!
Indeed it is!
LOVE IT!!!! I like to think that the 9 ships are scattered throughout the federation waiting to be called upon again, and kept in a constant state of readiness, much like the USS IWOA is kept ready,in case she's needed again
*Ive got a this on STO!!*
Niice!
This ship reminds me of a love child between an Intrepid class and a Defiant class.
Great video TAS!! I love the design of this ship and as you were telling its story of its mission profiles it came to me that these ships and their crew got tasked with the "wet work" or "black ops" missions. Quick, dirty and no rules applied. Nasty stuff but neccessary. The kind of thing "civilized" people like to pretend doesnt actually exist but are secretly grateful that it does! You are a master story teller!!
Nothing like watching a video on a bad ass class at 37,000 feet.
Watchya doing way up there?
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics returning from a company meeting.
Well Im glad I could join you on your trip :)
Don't look at the wings...😉
Lol
I am positively vibrating in anticipation for your vid on the Typhon class.
One day ;)
I've heard rumors that its bridge consoles are packed with steel ball bearings instead of rocks.
As usual great job with this.
This is by far an interesting class. It's too bad we never saw her past video games. Although the underside is a little less than to be desired. If the underside had been curved a little bit more then it would make sense. Having just flat surface with windows...ummm ok then lol.
The placement of the micro quantum torpedo launchers is rather interesting. It reminds me of how modern US subs and the way how they have their launch tubes up top as well.
For what happened to the 9 ships that were subsequently decommissioned... I'm betting they were stripped down and the tech of each ship being distrusted to the other common ships being built. Just another way for Starfleet Command to avoid a PR nightmare.
Let's hear it for Out of the Box thinking.
Amen!
I really enjoy these videos. It's like watching a whole series through your voice. Good stuff.
Glad you like them! Thank you!
love the your video from the Achilles Class
Thank you Dom, it's a fun little design!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics yes it is
Fantastic work with the textures
Thank you very much, I try!
I always thought this ship looked like a boar spear head (with a couple nacelles strapped on), and I guess that fits its role pretty well.
Indeed it does fit its role ;)
another fantastic video the ship looks awesome 👍😊🤩😎
Thank you 🤗
Brilliant as always !!!!! Thanks....
You are very welcome! Thank you for the support!
section 13 got them and painted the black and added a phase cloak
The dorsal torpedo launchers remind me of the Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) used on for cruise missiles and ICBMs in real life. That, in turn, suggests that the Achilles class primary combat tactic would be a stand off bombardment. We know from on screen sources that Star Fleet had the technology to deploy probes and torpedos at high warp velocities and thus interstellar ranges. It wouldn't surprise me if the missions of an Achilles class were classified because they involved long range bombardment of vulnerable targets, and that such tactics are likely banned by treaties which the Dominion was not party too. This would make such missions unethical but technically legal, and better left out of the public eye.
I think Starfleet them up to date just in case of a second Dominion war at one or a couple black-sites
Interesting...
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics through has to be some smart admirals in Starfleet
Section 31 "acquired " them for their own use.
I think the class saw service after the dominion war and the return of USS Voyager, in a reserve task force (possibly active one) deployed to guard the federation from Species 8471 and launch delaying attacks in fluidic space where the heavy firepower and long mission capabilities would be put to great use. As the federation high command and council would have wanted to keep another threat quiet from a war wary population, sending the nearly unheard of class and crews (whose families would be used to long periods of no communication) would be a huge boon
I remember back then, I was bored once and cheated a bit more allotments to me so that in one of the final missions (second to last or last, dunno anymore, it's been too long) I could employ a full set (i.e. 6) of them. Boy did they clean house.... They made minced-meat outta the Jem'Hadar.....
😯😯😯😯😯cheater! 😜🤣🤣
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics Meh, it certainly felt good. 🤣😜
Lol oh, I know ;) :P
i just bought this one on STO the other day, i am remarkably surprised by it. Did not like the look of it at first. This ship just chews of Borg like candy and does a very good job at everything else. Quick and manoeuvrable, definitely recommended. Fun ship to fly.
Have you looked at the Horatio class? Your videos are excellent, and I think you would really enjoy a 25th century Ambassador class!
So I always head canoned that because Achilles was rapidly built large combat ship, it would be too much effort to refit it for a peace time role at leaat compared to the other Anti-borg and Dominion War Era Vessels that were smaller, and/or already had multi role purposes.
Maybe it's just me but it feels like a lot of Achilles Class DNA (deflector, saucer blended impulse engines) made it to the Inquiry Class but implemented in a easier to construct & maintain way
I’d be willing to bet more than one of those 9 ships ended up in the hands of Section 31.
A beefed up Intrepid.
Sort of!
"We have these smaller versions of torpedoes that are designed to be fired together. We need a name for them."
"What about 'Missile'?"
"An excellent idea, we're calling them "micro quantum torpedoes"
"Why not 'quantum micro-torpedoes'?"
"Who's the chief engineer here?"
Funny we never saw the Prometheus fight in the Dominion War considering its tactical abilities. And yeah the Dominion War game definitely introduced this class back in the early 2000s…takes me back to that post DS9- Voyager era where Enterprise came out and I felt a sadness knowing Star Trek fell off bad 😢
The Achilles was a straight up warship, not a dual mission explorer. The goes against the Federation’s goody goody image.
Not Really, See Defiant, Prometheus Classes etc
Dear TriAngulum Studios,
Do you think that the Achilles Class Starships were converted to Inquiry Class Starships?
No, 2 very different, separate designs!
I thought this was on the prototype model that was originally designed for the Intrepid-class Voyager.
Nope, not at all!
honestly I kinda felt as some of the war time vessels should possess pulse cannons like the Defiant as it proved successful during the Dominion war
Well this one DOES have them...
Hi The Achilles Class, something of a jinx name don't you think. heel notwithstanding!
No, as it's not named the Achilles Heel! There is a LOT more to Achilles than that Lol google it!
Micro Quantum torpedoes? Along the side of the ship?
Is that to give an enemy a full broadside?
Yes? No? Oh.
I'll show myself out.
Uhhh the Dorsal Spine is not along the side of the ship...
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics 5:19 Still looks like it could give off a good broadside.
Nope!
That design must be where they came up with the intrepid class because it looks a whole lot like Voyager
No, the 2 design were created in tandom!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics good to know very similar except for some weapons
Just a product of the design era! Starship Lineage!
