I think the biggest thing about Vader as a military leader is that he COULD be brilliant, creative, and dangerously efficient, but he actively didn't want to be. His self-loathing and hatred seeped out to all the incompetent, evil little weasels around him, and I think he took more than a little pleasure in forcing them into harm's way. Hence why Imperial leadership absolutely despised him and dreaded working with him - they could tell he wasn't incompetent, he was trying to get them all killed on PURPOSE.
I can see that. And agree absolutely that his style changed immediately after his transformation into Vader. My take is more that his focus shifted. He no longer cared about pretty much anybody, so why bother trying to keep them alive. Thus, the sledgehammer approach to most things. The only people he ever showed interest to were either very unusual, or potentially valuable against his master...or both. He saved all his creativity etc for his plans against palps. Unfortunately he was playing checkers against palps chess in that regard.
Canonically (or used to be), the officers hated him... but run-of-the mill Stormtroopers loved him. Since it was the incompetent hack, careerist officers that got them killed and Vader being one the few that didn't care about patronage of said hacks.
With a recent rewatch of Rogue One, I was struck by how very "Anakin" Vader's entrance to the battle of Scarif was. He literally comes out of hyperspace with his destroyer blasting, right in the face of the republic fleet, felt very Clone Wars in a great way.
I adore the idea of well equipped space vachts. Its like being thristy at sea, water water everywhere, in space ur stuck in your ship, may as well be comfy as well as safe.
Id love an animated EU, but i strongly suspect it wouldnt happen because some powers that be would be afraid it would be more popular than the new canon. Which would not be a great look for their continued employment.
I always thought the lady luck was ugly as hell, but it fit landos outlook perfectly. Very flash, luxurious and ostentatious, but with hidden brains and punch. He wasnt a crusader, but always had kind of a bruce wayne thing going. Hiding himself under the foppish image. Same with the ship.
The TIE Wing looks like my Lego free-build spaceships back in my childhood. Real special stuff, like if MacGyver and Dr. Frankenstein teamed up at a shipyard and made a Whatchgot Fighter.
Even if the novels don't get TV adaptations, they could still benefit from radio plays similar to how Doctor Who has made a killing in stories that can't be told during the main show due to time constraints.
@@carsoncasmirri3874 Exactly. They're not combat ships, they're royal transports meant to travel under escort from a squadron of fighters in peacetime.
If Star Wars space travel were real, and I could have a starship, the ONLY starships I'd ever want are the Royal Naboo yachts. Specifically, the Royal Barge - the one in the opening scene of Attack of the Clones that gets bombed on Coruscant. My second favourite is the Royal Starship from The Phantom Menace. Never felt that the smaller Royal Yacht in AOTC or the Royal Skiff in Revenge of the Sith were particularly iconic.
Personally I always hated the twilight and I still do. I just can't fathom how that thing is practical besides being a habitable space-faring heap of scrap
I don't think Vader has lost interest in fleet command but rather understands that he is basically in command of the fleet, any ground forces attached to it, and acting as 2nd in command next to the Emperor. His position dictates not only commanding a large fleet, but also leading ground forces on the attack/defense, and also doing whatever the Emperor wants him to do that day. It's not that he isn't interested, he just can't focus on it as much as he did when he was leading a smaller fleet with the Republic during the clone wars. He still knows how enough to see who's good, and who isn't like in Ep V when he gets rid of Ozzle for alerting the Rebels.
Krennic's T-3c Shuttle from Rogue One is the perfect Star Wars Cybertruck analogue! In addition to looking angular and impractical, I vaguely remember hearing it was designed to represent Krennic's ego: he was so self-important he HAD to have his own unique class of Lambda shuttle. Imperial uniformity was beneath him.
I don't think Disney will use legends. For the same reason they De-cannoned expanded universe. Its so they can not only control the narratives, but they don't have to pay the original writers.
This stupid conspiracy theory again? They own Legends. They don't have to pay it's writers any more than they'd have to pay their own. It's about not being beholden to two decadades on licensed fanfiction, ie one of the reasons Lucas didn't stick to it either.
@Hello-bi1pm Because it would take most of the sense of wonder and discovery out of the franchise. Movie canon is restrictive enough. Of all the things to complain about Disney doing.. taking a giant dump on TEU/Legends isn’t one of them.
They even re wrote Sleeping Beauty. Before the Cartoon that Disney made, the original had the evil "step" sisters as the as the genetic mother of Sleeping Beauty. The story was about resentful mothers holding back their daughters from getting a good husband. Something many young girls really do need to learn about. But that was changed by Disney because they knew it wouldn't sell. They are and always have been just like any other massiv e corporation, just an entity to make money and push agendas that they think will sell. Hence why the Disney star wars are full of references modern Politics, they think that is what will sell....
Out of Mara Jade's 3 ships, my favorite is the Jade Sabre. It's just so sleek, and it was a custom build from the ground up by Luke that could basically take on Star Destroyers and come out on top
Lucas didn't really like her either, FYI. Had he included her in a hypothetical sequel film, he would've shredded her established story from the books to fit his narrative.

I'd agree that if they created Legends shows they could do quite a good job and it could also bring people to Disney + since there are a number of fans that hate star wars cannon
That is the thing with Vader vs Anakin. Anakin is a sword: he can make these smart stabs at whatever fleet hes fighting but Vader is a mace. Just smash into everything an do enough damage they can't fight back
Thanks Eck! I thought of that approach (animation) for a lot of the material. I also think lower budget live action would be fun too! Kinda re-create the conditions Lucas had in the 70s with his (relatively) Lower Budget approach and being a newer filmmaker. It be really fun to see Lucasfilm give some upcoming directors a crack at Star Wars in a relatively safe format. Another parallel to draw is LOTR: War of the Rohirrim. Depending on how that performs this December, it could be a proof of concept for Star Wars.

While I would love to see a set of legends animated series I’m honestly not holding out any hope for such a project. Disney have made it quite clear in their actions that their intention with Legends content is to scrounge for a bit of it and canonise it in some way for their own usage in their new projects, and almost never as good as just adapting the legends material would be
I think some of the 'uglies' actually look pretty cool. I would hate to fly one... but some ***look*** pretty cool. Then again I also think some of the TIE experimentals from X-wing alliance look neat. Also I completely agree about the SW legends. And if they're *really* that worried about confusion, they could totally just have a tiny disclaimer... like in the opening title craw or something. It's not the most elegant, but, could be done.
They actually did adapt some legends content already such as the zillo beast, but have to admit would be fun to see the death troopers novel as CGI or the bounty hunter wars. Abeloth would also be a good idea for a villain, along with say Mr Bones, the most stabby of battle droids. However the most bs ship I think was an old Jedi ship that looked like an old school sailing ship or something like in treasure planet.
My issue with the canon changes isn't that it'll turn into something that I don't like, but that investment into the story of the game is punished almost. I can still remember when Jace was a telepath who accidentally killed his parents. Every time they retcon stuff, I have this growing sensation of "do I even know who these characters are?" Has Ajani gone toe to toe with Bolas? I remember that being a thing, but maybe it isn't anymore. Maybe Bolas barely cares who Ajani is. Maybe he hates him? Anyway, take that and multiply it by the entire cast.
I think your idea of making an alternate (animated) canon is great. I had a similar idea years ago. The problem is, Disney brass would never allow it precisely because it's not canon. Kathleen threw out all the previous stuff a reason. She wanted it to be forgotten. So she's not going to give it a chance to be made. Let alone give it a chance to become more popular than her "canon". On top of this, Hollywood studios as a whole are trying to throw away the past. Warner Bros should have brought back Timm/Dini to revive the DC cartoons. Instead, they continue to double and triple down on crap like Suicide Squad and spin offs. Even when its losing money, they still push it. Showing their true goal is about control and ego, not money.
It's probably the equivalent of a Lamborghini. Expensive, uncomfortable, impractical, but fast and flashy. "Look at me, I'm so rich I can afford to drop the price of a nice house on this stupid car that sucks at everything I need a car to do."
I don't think people realize that Princess Leia's adopted family's yacht was the Corellian blockade runner which was the first spacecraft seen ever in Star Wars.
You know what would have been cool? a heavily modified Super star destroyer, designed to be a giant star dock, to carry a squadron of Star Destroyers from one location to another, keep them all together, let the crew and armies train on thier ships, and come aboard the super star destroyer as a sort of vacation, and letting the troops from different ships comingle, and training exercises for multiple ships flight crews to work together in simulators. and basically have a very fast computer connection where all the star destroyers connect to the super star destroyer. allowing them to operate simulations on multiple star destroyers, all linked together as fast as possible. Could be really cool. and the SSD could feature actual dry docks that some of the Destroyers could get repaired in, and a limited construction facility and mining operations it could launch. Basically a mobile operations center that could maintain the fleet. except for food and some fuel that they would need to find a way to source on the way from gas giants and rocky planets that have life.
I think it would be cool to introduce characters like Sol "The Lame" or Torbin "The Lonely" into Star Wars. They would play the corrupt, incompetent, and repulsive rebel/Jedi that hinder the heroes' journey. It makes sense that even the Jedi/Rebels have rotten apples. This idea would give Star Wars a Scorcese feel, would make the heroes journey more challenging.
The YT-2000 transport from X-Wing: Alliance is probably better than a B-Wing. A little bit faster, much stronger hull and shields, almost as manuverable and while it's slightly less well armed, I think two of it's laser canons being turrets that can hit enemies that aren't directly ahead makes up for it having only one ion canon and a smaller missle/torpedo magazine.
Not a hashtagaskeck question proper, just want to prod you again to read the Lost Fleet, I'm always jonesing for more youtube content about my preciousss sci-fi series. No worries though, it's too niche and I still enjoy your videos either way. Have a good time!

I was just wondering why nobody really covers Center Point. I have seen a lot of video's about the most powerful weapons in Star Wars and focus on things like the Death Star and Sun Crusher, but gloss over Center Point? How? I'd love to see Legends adapted in animation, like you said though, not sure how many new subs that would bring to Disney+. The existing Fandom would watch it and, dare I say, buy the physical media of it. Not that disney would ever do that
When you think about it, doing the books as anime would work out REALLY WELL, because Mark Hamill is almost as well known for that (The Joker) as Luke Skywalker.
As much as I sincerely hope Disney never touches the Old Republic era for an adaptation, whether it be a series or movie, animated or live action, I wonder what story within said era would work best in such a medium. I have no faith in Disney's ability to handle any long-form content beyond even a single movie or a short 8 episode series, so I was thinking what would work best as a 1-shot kind of thing, and I can't really decide on one.
RE: Legends, Disney would have to work royalty rights out with the prior authors. They don't seem willing to do this. It's cheaper and more efficient for them to lowball new authors or have Zahn ruin his previous stories by making new ones that aren't as good.

It absolutely would be more popular, because it's actually good.
What about the TIE tank? That's cybertruck-esque.
Not a ship, though.
Even if the novels don't get TV adaptations, they could still benefit from radio plays similar to how Doctor Who has made a killing in stories that can't be told during the main show due to time constraints.
1:00 "yacht jizz." I will never be able to unhear this.
you better not be talking bad about the nubian yatchs, those are my favorite >:(
edit: thank god lmao
For what they’re meant for, they do the job so well
@@carsoncasmirri3874 Exactly. They're not combat ships, they're royal transports meant to travel under escort from a squadron of fighters in peacetime.
Man, I really thought you were gonna say the Sun Crusher was BS because it was the most absurd thing ever thought of
If Star Wars space travel were real, and I could have a starship, the ONLY starships I'd ever want are the Royal Naboo yachts. Specifically, the Royal Barge - the one in the opening scene of Attack of the Clones that gets bombed on Coruscant. My second favourite is the Royal Starship from The Phantom Menace. Never felt that the smaller Royal Yacht in AOTC or the Royal Skiff in Revenge of the Sith were particularly iconic.
yachtjizz 😳
That's definitely Lando's🤣
Personally I always hated the twilight and I still do. I just can't fathom how that thing is practical besides being a habitable space-faring heap of scrap
Those weird bomb dropping ships in The Last Jedi. Those bombs seemed to rely on gravity, BUT THERE'S NO GRAVITY IN OUTER SPACE!!
He is and expediter of the Emperor's will. He doesn't have time to get overly involved in a larger battle or command.
@@mpnuorva how is Disney not worse than licensed fanfiction?
it's how disney has operated for decades. they rewrite EVERYTHING that isn't original material.
@Hello-bi1pm
Because it would take most of the sense of wonder and discovery out of the franchise.
0:31 "No, there's no ship in Star Wars which is as bad as the cybertruck."
Gonna have to empty Thyferra for that one.
The OG Darksaber begs to differ.
I find it really interesting that Disney won't touch Mara Jade...
I love her and actually am glad they don't. God knows what they'd do to her character
Lucas didn't really like her either, FYI. Had he included her in a hypothetical sequel film, he would've shredded her established story from the books to fit his narrative.
@@WinterLady87 Not that hard, they will make her: black, gay, and lame.
Disney is asking "will it make all the money tho?"
I know there's the joke "Honey wake up [RUclipsr] made a video" but I did actually tell my girlfriend "Oh my god Eckhart's Ladder made a video." Thank you, keep making videos your opinions on Star Wars/life are great
Came for the Sun Crusher
I definitely think if the Rogue Squadron trilogy was going to be remade into just one massive game, it should definitely have the Legends tag plastered on the front
Def agree about Vader using his forces as a sledgehammer, he totally didn't care anymore about anything but luke.v
The legends thing, I FULLY Agree with, that is SO MUCH a great idea! I would love to see e to see that so bad
He wasn’t a tactician, he was a hunter.
@@carsoncasmirri3874Vader also likely didn't have an appetite for it either, considering Sidious was likely offloading responsibilities onto Vader with dealing with Jedi but also when it came to rank-and-file executives of the Empire: Anakin/Vader was never a *person* within the Republic or Empire but a symbol, a presence that exudes Palpatine's authority stamped on it. By that point, as long as the results were satisfactory Vader likely didn't care how it was done and decided to overkill things cus he had the ability
@@carsoncasmirri3874 for sure, but I just feel that his rage kinda colored everything. But he was def a tactical master.
@@kingbooomer9231 Lord Vader was a combination of a royal envoy, religious enforcer, and intelligence officer. He didn't care about individual battles, fleet tactics, or command, but when he was around, he was their with the full authority of the Emperor. All would be directly reported back to the Emperor. Any disloyalty to the Emperor would not be tolerated. His reasons for being somewhere wasn't for you to know or question. Simply help him and trust in the Emperor's plan.
Essentially you're talking about what Visions and Tales are. Just expanding upon that more.
I'd like to point out that in Rebels, Vader was quite adept at not only anticipating the main characters plan, but exploiting that information.
@eck take a book that's already been narated, like allegiance. Marc Thompson has already done all the voice acting. Give it awesome picture quality like the old republic cinematics. Cut out all the parts that describes the scene, (as we will see it, and dont need to hear it) pay the voice actor a royalty, and you can pump out a lot of amazing animated movies. Or even a mini series. Id pay for them!
Marc Thompson is *the* Star Wars audiobook narrator in my opinion
The xwing novels as an animated series would be so awesome
would disney not adapt stuff written in the past for star wars because they don't want to pay the authors?
No, it doesn't work like that.
Its disney's property, so they lay claim on anything star wars, including legends stuff.
to be fair, *disney* seems to think it works like that. they got in trouble a while back because they decided they didn't have to honor the royalties contracts of several EU authors, and i'm not sure it got resolved properly. @@EckhartsLadder
@@EckhartsLadderyes, it does, look at Peter Cushing lawsuit

@askeck, what are your thoughts on the more unique Disney era ship designs, ignoring the T-70, Tie FO and resistance Y,B, and A wings. So stuff like the MC-85, Tie Silencer, AAL, and Omicron Class shuttle.
I'd agree that if they created Legends shows they could do quite a good job and it could also bring people to Disney + since there are a number of fans that hate star wars cannon
I always liked the weird Coronet of Duchess Satine, goofy but kinda elegant
That is the thing with Vader vs Anakin. Anakin is a sword: he can make these smart stabs at whatever fleet hes fighting but Vader is a mace. Just smash into everything an do enough damage they can't fight back
Yacht Jizz is the name of my new grindcore band that does Steely Dan covers
Love that somebody effectively asked "Hey, what would be the starship Eff-boy?"
Corelia, "we'd like some self governance."
The Republic, "best we can do is a full scale invasion."

X-TIE pilot: "same, but I got X-Wing wings and a TIE fighter body"

Legends was definitely 🥜 for sure. But it was a hell of a lot better than Cannon this we have now 🤷
While I would love to see a set of legends animated series I’m honestly not holding out any hope for such a project. Disney have made it quite clear in their actions that their intention with Legends content is to scrounge for a bit of it and canonise it in some way for their own usage in their new projects, and almost never as good as just adapting the legends material would be
Always never as good.
Thank you!
Anakin Sal Solo. That was a sad creation and broke my heart, a bit.
saw the pic and my first thought was the sun crusher lol
One question that always was in the back of my mind is what does the empire do with all the dead storm trooper bodies they rack up?
Ugly planes/starships are the coolest by far. Function over form makes so much more sense
If they make a I Jedi movie and fumble it I’ll be so pissed
I second the animated legends universe!
The millennium falcon

Worst thing about the MF is that the cockpit is way over on the side.
Dooku's solar sailer must be super impractical and while being considered a yacht, it's tiny, so probably not even that comfortable to ride on.
It's probably the equivalent of a Lamborghini. Expensive, uncomfortable, impractical, but fast and flashy.

I mostly just think of Mara Jade flying around in a Z-95 Headhunter most of the time
I would be interested in seeing a video about lando's business ventures and companies. He owns after the battle of the battle of yavin
This idea would give Star Wars a Scorcese feel, would make the heroes journey more challenging.
zander freemaker would be proud
I would lose my mind if they turned the NJO series into animation. I love it so much... i NEED a visual
You say they should follow the footsteps of the DCAU, but star wars needs its BTAS moment
Yacht jiz is wild 😭
Eck if you were to make your own ship what type or role would it do,and how would it look?

If I were Disney's or Lucasfilm's CEO, I'd definitely invest a good amount of time and money into creating a Star Wars Animated Universe, which would consist of Animated Movies, TV Series etc.
Start with some web comics and short stories. Much cheaper to produce to see what works and the audience responds to.

I was just wondering why nobody really covers Center Point. I have seen a lot of video's about the most powerful weapons in Star Wars and focus on things like the Death Star and Sun Crusher, but gloss over Center Point? How? A ship, built around a star, that can hyperspace ENTIRE PLANETS to other systems, and remotely detonate stars? Its literally the most absurd thing in the galaxy other than the giant space witch. The acolyte was their attempt at creating something "new" and how that ended up we all know. so no - they can't create anything sensible - be it old or be it new.

3:55 I think animation is the best medium for Star Wars anyway.
I'd love to see Legends adapted in animation, like you said though, not sure how many new subs that would bring to Disney+. The existing Fandom would watch it and, dare I say, buy the physical media of it. Not that disney would ever do that
0:36 Jesus Christ, no warning??
